we got the Old Town Manhattan which was strong yet a good winter drink, and the Thai Tiger which was not strong at all, but neutral tasting. The Coconut Ice Cream w/ Fried Bananas was really tasty! I enjoyed that combo a lot. The restaurant was cute inside, and had a second floor with more seating as well. I think if you came here on a normal day, it would be a better experience. However, the quality of food did not suffer even on a busy day!

When you are looking for something you like to have but is a bit different than before, it is best to take a look and consider a new place to explore. For us, we were talking to an artist in the Torpedo Art Studio in Old Town Alexandria, admiring the work he did. It got then we started talking about lunch as he was from Hong Kong. He mentioned we go across the street and try something he liked as it was something he would have back home. So, taking his advice we walked across the street and went to Mai Thai. It was a good suggestion. We went in and had a seat. Our waitress (a wonderful woman from Guam) gave some advice and we to some time to think.

In the end we decided to start with Spring Rolls. This is the freshest sliced roll of crispy veggie combinations of lettuce, celery, mixed veggies wrapped in a thin wrap and served with a sweet and sour dipping sauce. It was truly...

fresh and tasty. The dipping sauce was unique and made this worth a meal by itself. Then, being a cold day outside, soup seemed to be a good thing for lunch. We selected some traditional bowls of soup. First was TOM KA. It was a combination of vegetables and tofu in a coconut broth with mushrooms and fresh herbs. The soup had a tint of white. It was light and tasty. It was at a room temperature which is the way you have soup in Thailand. It was refreshing and light. Next we had TOM YUM. This is a combination made from slices of chicken in a lemongrass soup with fresh mushrooms, cilantro, scallions, galangal, kaffir-lime leaves, and Thai spices. The broth was light and traditional. If you wanted more spice our hostess brought it to you. Again, this was the way I had it when I was working in the rural areas of Thailand. Nothing fancy. Nothing simple. It was true home cooking that was served to you in a method truly Thai. The lunch was simple, but the way you would eat in Thailand. The taste and flavor was what to expect. The team is wonderful and friendly. The price was fine. It was good to find Mai Thai. And maybe being told about it from an artists does make it true to say that "Art is in the eye (and mouth) of the beholder."

Spring rolls come out almost burnt. This has happened twice on two separate occasions. Service has declined too. I'm very disappointed.

Not gonna lie, I usually don't mess with fruit in my food but this mango salad and papaya salad were so fresh and hit way harder than I expected. Calamari was ok -- could've been fried a little harder, but still good. Service was okay, nothing crazy, but the ambiance made up for it -- chill and refreshing. We sat outside and it was a nice.

Walking through old town Alexandria on a very warm and humid July night, so we headed down towards the water at the end of King St. Came across Mai Thai, with a patio that faces the water and the park. The patio was shaded, so we decided to stop in here for a bite to eat outside. As an appetizer ordered the fried calamari for $11.95. Nice and crisp, served hot, very tasty - just not as plentiful for an appetizer as I would've hoped. (Typical calamari appetizers tend to be more plentiful.) However, they were delicious. I had the chicken pad Thai $19.95), and my husband had one of the daily specials - drunken chicken spaghetti ($21.95). He said it was delicious. I had a Singha beer, my husband had a Kieran light ($6.95 each). The servings for our meal were generous, and I needed a to go carton for my extra pad Thai. This was a terrific spot, lots of people watching, the service was really great. I would give it a 4.5 out of five owing to the size of the calamari appetizer. But that's just me lol. $75 for dinner, not including tip. Would not hesitate to stop by again.

I'm torn .. this could be a 3.5. The service was fast and nice. The view of the river from upstairs is awesome. I enjoyed they had coconut water as a drink...rare! We started with spring rolls and crab rangoon. Both were average. I have never seen rice noodles part of the spring roll filling. It seemed like a waste of space. Then we each ordered different dishes. Me .. I am a peanut lover so the peanut chicken was a must. It was super tasty and served with rice an broccoli!!! The others had shrimp fried rice and spicy ginger with chicken. Both were average at best. One asked for super spicy and did not get it.

Wanted to grab dinner down near the water and this was the perfect switch up from a lot of the American fare that you get in Alexandria! We ordered drinks and they came out very quick! The menu had a lot of different options and I'm someone who is always going to ask the server for their personal favorites & I'm glad I did because I always love a good drunken noodle and that's exactly what they recommended! And boy were they right, the food was delicious and hot, I will say however it said it was a level 3 spicy and I'm no spice sommelier (if that's a thing) but they definitely could've turned it up a bit! But overall the food was temperature-wise hot and very flavorful! We also enjoyed the decoration and will definitely be adding this to the Thai restaurant rotation!

We were the first party to come in on a Sunday around 12noon. The waiter was very personable. He seated us upstairs which has phenomenal views of the waterfront. Great for people / dog watching! We ordered a good amount of food: two soups, three noodles, a curry, and an appetizer. Appetizer: Larb gai: I absolutely love this dish no matter where I go. Though this wasn't the best Larb gai I've had, it still encapsulates the flavors of Thailand Soups: Tom Yum: I've been trying Tom yum koong at every Thai restaurant I go to. This one wasn't my favorite as it seemed a little light in flavor and didn't use the typical tiny mushrooms. Tom Ka: is the first time I've tried Tom Ka and I think I may be choosing this one over Tom yum from now on! I loved the creaminess from the coconut milk, and the spices and slices of chicken warm the soul Noodles: Pad Thai: very typical, but light on flavor. A little disappointed but was still worth eating Drunken noodle: this one was our favorite. Probably the most seasoned noodle dish. Pad see ew: same noodles as the drunken noodles, but less flavored than the drunken noodles. There's a lot more focus on the veggies used here than the drunken noodles. Curry: Green curry: curry dishes come with rice! This was my first time trying green curry. Wasn't my favorite as it was more acidic than what I was used to. Again, there was more emphasis on the veggies used than the actual curry base. Portion sizes are great for the price. Service was relatively fast. The ambiance and the views can't be beat. It's not the "best" Thai food I've ever had in the area, but most certainly not the worst. I'd definitely come back if I were trying to show friends and family around the waterfront and if we were craving Thai, without wanting to drive any further out.

If you are in the mood for Thai Food, this place at the Old Town Waterfront is a good place if you want to eat near the nice views of the Potomac River. I came here a bit late one evening after a night at the Cat Cafe up the street and was looking for something good to eat for dinner. Mai Thai was one of the places I frequented a few times visiting the area so it was no shock that I'd go back to a place that I remember from long ago. We got sat promptly upstairs and were handed waters and our menus. In minutes since we already looked at the menu ahead of time, we flagged down our waiter and proceeded with our orders. I got Chicken Satay with Peanut and Cucumber sauce, truly one of my favorite things to get at Thai resturants and the Cashew Chicken served with Jasmine Rice. The Chicken Satay is clearly good at any place as long as they can grill chicken skewers well. I am convinced that I had no bad experiences with the dish so far. The Cashew Chicken is full of it; the stir fried flavors coming from the chicken, the crunchy texture coming from cashews and just the fluffiest yet delicate bites of the Jasmine rice mixed with everything. It was a delight to eat and it was a delicious dinner.

It said that you can judge a good Thai restaurant by its Pad Thai. Mai Thai restaurant is a big desapoinment. The food is bad, the drinks watery ( do not try the margarita), the service is average to poor. The only saving grace is the location. Parking is very difficult and they do not validate. I had high hopes given some of reviews but unfortunately it was a big disappointment. There are much better restaurant near by in old town. Do not waste your time coming here.

The view from upstairs dining was cool. Service was fast. We started with tom yum which they did not have in a pot but was served individually. Panang curry had an overpowering peanut taste for me. Pad thais was good. Pineapple fried rice was really good and shrimps were big. We also wanted the cruspy flounder but was sold out so we opted for the crispy sea bass with chili sauce and it was good.

Came to old town to go to another restaurant but it had a two hour wait, so we came here! Glad we did. First, I somehow never come out to Old Town because of the drive. However, this was just a 30 min Uber ride from Maryland, not bad. Let's talk about the crab fried rice. Did you look at the picture? It was amazing! The spring rolls were a bit greasy but were good. The pineapple fried rice was super delicious too. Parking: I ubered and glad I did. Parking is free after 9 pm on the street and there are parking lots near the restaurant. Customer service: Staff was great. Super accommodating, Ambiance: This is a low key place to come eat. Paper napkins wrapped over the flatware type of restaurant. Overall, great food! Will definitely come back.

First time here, gorgeous evening so we sat outside. The service was great, food delicious and hustle of the visitors and music made the experience. I had curry noodles with chicken-definitely a go to, moist chicken and vegetables were the best. The hubby had honey chicken-I thought it was ok. Started with meatballs for $9.99 for six small very lean meatballs. Another skewer or two would make it worth it. Both meals $17.99 decent and a soft drink $3.99 high $55. For a nice dinner, wonderful service and a nice people watching and listening to the DJ by the water.

Wow. I love the fresh food here. I love all the vegetables. I love the flavors of all the foods. My "go to" is the Penang Chicken - delicious. Today I had red curry vegetables - also delicious. Husband usually orders the KaPow Chicken - spicy. We had the spring rolls for appetizer, a true fresh treat. And we will have the crispy banana with ice cream for desert, yum We love the prices and the value for an entertaining delicious meat in super Old Town Alexandria. We have been coming here for years, for family celebrations, lunch or dinner with friends and for client lunches. We love the Potomac River views through the large windows. The restaurant is comfortable and the Thai decor is fun. Staff are usually Thai, and always attentive. Now that they have outdoor seating, it's super for summertime too.

I'm giving a 3 star because I ordered the seafood paradise and expected it to be a little more larger than it was based off what the waitress told me. I was undecided between the Volcano which included flank steak, shrimp, asparagus and mushrooms in a brown sauce, and the seafood paradise which included shrimp , scallops in a chili paste garlic sauce.I really wish I would have went with the Volcano. ( I will definitely go back to try that dish out) The seafood paradise was tasty but not enough for me. The atmosphere and scenery was a plus, the waitress and staff was super friendly. This restaurant sit on the waterfront so it's definitely a nice spot overall. The drinks are reasonable in pricing. read more

Had dinner here with my in laws tonight. We ordered the pad Thai (classic, excellent), panang curry (also delicious), crispy duck salad (yum!), and Tom kha soup (too much lemongrass in the bowl but still good). The drinks are well priced at about $11 per cocktail. Pro tip: if you sit indoors, see if you can get a table next to the window upstairs. Excellent view of the river. read more

We were seated on the main level, while most people seemed to be dining upstairs. Here's what we ordered: Chicken Fried Rice ($14.95): 4.5/5 You can't go too wrong with fried rice, but this was really delicious. Presentation was nice and the portion was generous. I would get this again! Shrimp Green Curry ($18.95): 2.5/5 Nice presentation as well, but way too salty - had to add plain rice to the dish to help tone it down. Too spicy for our liking as well. I wouldn't recommend the green curry. Overall a nice, cozy place for dinner - just be cautious that some dishes may be salty if it bothers you. read more

Was craving for some Thai food and I'm glad we stopped by this restaurant! My parents absolutely love this place. They ordered Tom Yum soup and Drunken Noodle and loved every bit of it. I ordered Pad See Ew and it was delicious. I definitely recommend this place if you're craving for some Thai food in Old Town. The upstairs view is beautiful and romantic - making it a perfect date spot. The alcoholic drinks are also served in really cute pineapple shaped cups, which is a plus :) read more

Came here on a Friday night and there was plenty of seating so no worries about that. The staff were really friendly too here which I liked. We got the fried calamari as an appetizer. It wasn't really that crunchy and the calamari itself was quite slippery, flavorless, and not as cooked as I'm used to. There wasn't really any flavor to the calamari other than the dipping sauce and cilantro we were given. We were definitely disappointed by the calamari. We got drunken noodles and the musaman curry as entrees. The drunken noodles was supposed to be pretty spicy, but it was barely spicy at all to my friend and I. I think there was barely any spice to the musaman curry as well despite it being labeled with one pepper level, even though it was really good with the tender beef and tasty curry. Overall, the food was average, outside of the musaman curry I had. It's not really worth the prices for the quality of food we had - perhaps we got the wrong items? Not sure, but the service was quick and friendly. The place is quite cozy too. read more

On the second to last day of my trip we went to Alexandria. This is such a beautiful city. It's always so peaceful by the river, no matter the season. We went to Mai Thai for lunch. We got seated right by the window, where we could see Potomac River. What a great spot to dine! I ordered the Cashew Chicken, and the Spring Garden Rolls to share. I also got Thai iced coffee. One of my friends got a tofu dish and another got noodles. The coffee arrived first, it was really tasty, there was for sure a lot of sugar in it. The spring rolls were also really tasty. These were just vegetables, but dipping these into the peanut sauce was... so yum! Unfortunately this is where the good ends. My Cashew Chicken was awful. It looked really good, there was special sauce coating the chicken and the cashews. The problem is the chicken was really hard, it wasn't just crispy or crunchy, it was hard. I had to make sure I still had teeth after each bite. Well thank goodness for the spring rolls, those were fresh and tasty. Due to the inedible chicken in my dish I'll have to give Mai Thai three stars. read more

Food was good although service inattentive. I ordered Drunken Noodles which included a generous amount of tofu but wasn't hot enough to merit the "3 peppers" highlighted on the menu. Although there were few tables with diners, it was hard to get server's attention cuz the two workers were stooping behind a bar on their cellphones most of the time they were supposed to be working. On the plus side, we had an excellent view of the Potomac from our table by the window on the second floor. This place should get 5 stars for location. read more

Had the Mai Thai in DC so of course had to visit its Alexandria location! This restaurant is in a prime location central to many shops and great amenities. The restaurant was clean and had beautiful decorations. The food was delicious- large serving sizes without any compromise to the vivacious flavor profile! TLDR: Quaint spot for quality and inexpensive thai food. We started with the vegetarian spring rolls that were crunchy, crispy and served with a mild tangy sauce. Then ordered a Tom Yum soup that was a bit disappointing in flavor profile and serving size. The main dishes (pictured below) however were excellent. I've ordered Pad Thai and Crab Fried rice. Brought them home and ate them. Nothing special and both of them were fine, but not great, either. So if you are hungry, you can go there but there are many other Thai restaurants on the King street. read more

Four star because of location. Good meal in a great location at the bottom the the hill, by the water in Old Town. There are a couple of Thai choices in the neighborhood and you wouldn't go wrong in choosing this one especially with the location. Lots of easy parking garages nearby. I just had two apps this time, the steamed dumplings and the papaya salad. Both were good. These are standard faves in any Thai restaurant. I wouldn't say they were amazing but both were full of flavor. Lots of good veggies in the salad. On this sunny day, sitting on the patio was a treat. With views of the water and people watching, it was the perfect spot. read more

Seafood in Paradise. The jumbo shrimp had a noticeable grilled flavor and paired well with the delicious chili garlic sauce. Beware of this place! Was on date night with my fiancée. He chose this restaurant while we were strolling in Old Towne. Long story short, they gave me an entree, where the chicken was raw, which I had already consumed a fourth of it before learning it was not all the way cooked (see picture)! When we informed my server about this issue, she did not apologize and management tried to make us pay for the appetizer we had earlier. My fiancée blew up and we ended up not having to pay for anything and did not order a replacement meal. Needless to say, we will never go back! read more

Overall food is on the sweet side; it's fine if I want desert. The Tom kha (coconut soup) is not coconut milk. They use cow milk so it's very deceiving. There ate people who ate lactose intolerant. All the dishes that we ordered were less than average. I would not recommend this restaurant. read more

This was a very nice place to visit. I've lived in Old Town Alexandria for 8 years, and this was my first time visiting. Our waiter was extremely attentive and very kind. The view from the second level was beautiful. We watched people enjoying the beautiful day by the Potomac River and sailboats going by while we ate. The lunchtime entrées were very reasonably priced with a healthy portion. I ordered the cashew chicken, which I do not think is actually Thai but rather some fusion dish. It was good but a bit too sweet for me. My wife ordered the Red Curry. It did not have a very strong coconut flavor, which I expect from a Thai curry and not spicy at all (though we could have asked for that). However, it was still good. Let me start by saying the food was good, service, not so much. I ordered spring rolls(2) from their happy hour menu. The waitor brought the appetizer out and it looked to be more than the happy hour and I asked him if this was the happy hour order. He said, yes. There were 4. I ate 2 and asked to wrap the remainder. After eating my main meal and then being brought the check, they charged for full menu price. When informing them of their mistake, they came and grabbed my leftovers off the table. I've never seen a restaurant make a mistake then take away your leftovers which they have to throw away by law. So instead of owning the mistake, they take and throw away the food. That is the first and last time I will patron that restaurant. read more

Thai food right on the water at a fair price! The portions are huuuge and the flavor was great for the entrees that we ordered. One star off because I've had better thai tea before, but the overall meal and experience was great. For being right on the water in prime location, the prices aren't bad, especially given the large portion, so i recommend if you're in Alexandria. read more

I thought the food was average... I'm wavering between a 2 and 3 star. I was excited they had vegan options, but overall didn't really love my meal. I liked how the tofu was cooked, which a lot of places just totally fail at! However, my meal was small (I'm still not full) and overall bland... I know it said mild, but there really was no flavor at all. I guess next time I'll go for "spicy," which I usually avoid because Thai spice is insane!!! Additionally, I was excited for the meal to have spinach. However the effect that it had was completely watering down the bottom of my meal, which was quite unappetizing. I also didn't enjoy the mango sticky rice; I thought the portion was also too small for the price, and some of the mango looked old. I came here with my boyfriend for an early Sunday dinner around 6pm and we were seated right away. Remember to ask for a window table for the nice view of the water! We each ordered Thai iced tea (no powdery taste and not too sweet). There's also a full bar FYI. For the appetizer, we ordered the fried calamari. The batter was similar to a beer batter, nice and crispy. The calamari itself was soft and buttery (not chewy!) and paired great with the sweet and sour dipping sauce! For entrees, we shared the chili crispy duck and pork pad see ew. The pad see ew wasn't overcooked and had a nice charred flavor. The pork and Chinese broccoli were cooked well and very flavorful as well! The chili crispy duck didn't disappoint either! It was lightly battered and had a nice crispiness under the amazing sweet chili sauce. We were too full to try desserts unfortunately. The first time I went here I really enjoyed it. The second time, not so much. They have never been busy the times I went so that may be a yellow flag. The views from the top floor is probably the best thing about this place. You get to look over the water and people watch below on the sidewalk. I ordered the Pad Thai and just did not like the sauce on it. Kind of bland. There was nothing special about the food here. read more

The place... The restaurant was a full house, and seemed small. The location is cute, on the Alexandria waterfront. The bathroom smelled horrible, even though the toilet was flushed and looked clean The service... It took about 20-30 minutes to finally have a waiter. I get how it was busy, but seeing the waiters serving everyone around us was bothersome. I would like to have some reassurance that someone will serve us soon. The food... I got the cashew chicken, which was really good! I thought it would've been dry for a fancy looking restaurant like this. But the cashew chicken tasted like something you would get at a Chinese takeout. I'm not sure if that's how it's supposed to taste, but I was expecting some authenticity that screams thailand. Not gonna lie, I took one star off because it took awhile for someone to get to us after we got seated. But boy oh boy...after we placed our appetizer and entree everything came out SO FAST! We had crazy good service right after and the food was amazing. We shared everything and enjoyed every bite. The crispy spring rolls came with a sweet and sour sauce that paired amazingly. Our honey chicken entree was absolutely to die for. The food portions were great. We wanted to try one more thing and it ended up being the steamed seafood dumplings. OMG! They were sooooo flavorful! We have been to Mai Thai four times and rarely tasted as delicious of thai food as we had for lunch and dinner. The crispy tilapia, Tom Yum, Pork Basil and Fried noodle were the best in this area. My plus one always enjoyed the huge portion sizes. Good vegetarian options, like the green curry too. The shrimp pad Thai is good if you want to stay traditional. Not the best, but decent. We were seated outside and upstairs. The last visit, they followed all of the COVID guidelines. I deducted one star for the wobbly table that took away from the dining experience but the food and service made up for it. Do not forget to try their drinks and mango with sticky rice. read more

Delicious food and ambiance with views of the Potomac and MD from the 2nd floor seating where our table was. The service is great, very attentive and knowledgeable about the menu. We tried the curry puffs which were delicious. The queen of my heart was in town, my mom. We decided to go out for dinner and have Thai food. We came here on a weeknight and were sat immediately. I ordered a DELICIOUS drink (it would be beneficial if I remembered the name, but I don't). We ordered veggie spring rolls to start off with and they were the bomb.com. Nice crunchy, flaky exterior with a chewy interior that was a nice contrast. Hands down, the best part of our dining experience. For dinner I got the seafood drunken noodles. Solid option with a gorgeous view - noodles are great and the whole fish IS NOT TO BE MISSED!!!!!! Lemongrass and herby- deboned and delicious - very impressed !! They offer two specials (see my photo of the menu). The duck red curry is great, comes with tempura green beans and thin, scallion pancake (crispy!). Menu says roti flatbread, but in reality it is East Asian style scallion pancakes which I don't mind; in fact I love it. The ladies' room is spacious and clean by the way. They have separate men's and women's restrooms.

Last night I brought a couple of friends over to the Sisters Thai in Alexandria ... because I had had good experiences in the past. We were seated at our table of four, and had to wait 20 mins to be served water from the start. That was unusual - and although the restaurant was busy it was not packed, so the delay was odd. We ordered the food which was great - high recommendations for the branzino, the crispy eggplant, the roti curry and the mango & sticky rice. The water service was challenging; at one point during the meal when a server came to do a refill, she spilled the water on the table near the food dishes - apologized - but didn't clean up! (It was not a few drops - it was a sizeable amount that warranted wiping up since our group had to reach over for the food dishes in the center). She took off after right after spilling it - and didn't come back! So I eventually caught the eye of another sever and asked for the water to be wiped down. The evening went on - the meal really noteworthy ... but water was clearly becoming more and more of an issue - and this was critical especially considering that the roti curry was spicy! After yet another 20 minutes of trying to catch the eye of anyone with a pitcher I had to get up and request water from the bar area. So although the evening was pleasant it was somewhat disruptive with this lack of coordination - which is really is a basic of any establishment. I would go back again for the food - although I'm disappointed that I brought friends along to try the restaurant and the service was not as expected. As I write this I want to add that if it was a one-off with a water delay I would understand - but it was consistently overlooked, without a spillage being wiped promptly that started to create a less than satisfactory experience. Thank you in advance to the Sisters Thai for more training for their staff on enhancing the customer experience.

The Pad Thai Mun Goong was a chef specialty pad Thai made with stir fried rice noodle, prawns shrimp tomalley oil (a crucial element for this version), egg and bean sprouts, naturally topped with green onions, peanuts and a lime for squeezing, and this also was quite phenomenal. Savory, sweet, a little tingle of sourness from the citrus in the mid-palate, and the juicy, briny shrimp balancing the dense carbs and rich flavorful sauce. This is a family-run restaurant and it was great to see that they had their very young son manning the counter and the cash register in a totally professional way. The menu is straight-forward with the usual and expected dishes. One dish I did not expect to see, but did, were hush puppies! Everything we ordered for takeout was excellent. Portions are generous and inexpensive. Note: there are two tables in the restaurant if you prefer to dine in. We ordered egg drop soup, crispy pork wontons, Mongolian Chicken and Mongolian Beef. The egg drop soup was better than your typical egg drop soup, with a flavorful broth and silky but still hearty texture. The wontons were packed with pork and came with a tasty bright red dipping sauce that complimented the wontons nicely. The Mongolian Beef and Mongolian Chicken are the same dish, with the only difference being the meat. These dishes were very well prepared with just the right amount of onion, scallion and sauce. The beef had a delicious slightly smoky flavor and was cut into nicely shaped pieces. The Mongolian dishes automatically come with white rice. Speaking of the rice, it had a great texture and just the right amount of moisture. Take out orders may take up to a half hour for them to be prepared, but it is well worth the wait. We will be back.

My wife and I arrived around 1:20 p.m. on a Thursday. The lunch crowd was still going strong, which only reinforced that we had picked a popular spot. Unfortunately, the experience went downhill almost immediately. When we walked in, there was no hostess to be found. After waiting about four minutes, she finally appeared and offered us a choice between a small table in the corner or one by the bar. Given how busy the restaurant was, we took the table by the bar. About seven minutes later, someone finally came by to offer us water and explained that our server was busy, but she would help us in the meantime. No problem. We ordered the Avo Goddess Salad and asked that it be split so we could share it. A few minutes later, our server arrived, introduced herself, and we let her know we had already ordered the salad and were ready to place our lunch orders. She was very helpful in guiding my wife toward the Old Bay Shrimp Burger. I was excited to order the Shrimp and Grits until I learned it contained Andouille sausage and, according to our server, couldn't be prepared without it. Since the restaurant highlights that everything is made from scratch, that surprised me. I ended up ordering the Ahi Tuna Salad instead. So far, so good. Then came the frustration. We spent the next 20 minutes slowly picking at our salad, growing increasingly hungry and confused. You know something is wrong when guests who were seated after you begin receiving their meals before you. Finally, at 2:10 p.m., our food arrived: my Ahi Tuna Salad and a Pulled Lamb Sandwich for my wife. Except my wife had ordered the Shrimp Burger. When we pointed out the mistake to what was now our third server, she quickly assured us it would be corrected. A few minutes later, our original server returned and took full responsibility. She explained that the lamb and shrimp items are next to each other in the POS system and she accidentally selected the wrong item. She assured us the Shrimp Burger would be out in two minutes and suggested we enjoy the fries that came with the lamb sandwich while we waited. Unfortunately, another ten minutes passed before the burger finally arrived. Here's where things became truly disappointing: the top bun was still cold--almost frozen. My wife ended up removing it entirely and eating the sandwich with just the bottom bun. At best, the Shrimp Burger was decent, but certainly not worth the wait and frustration. As for my Ahi Tuna Salad, it felt like something I could easily make at home, especially considering the $25 price tag. I'm also not entirely convinced the tuna was particularly fresh. I can't bring myself to give Matt and Tony's one star because the atmosphere is genuinely cool and inviting. So I settled on two stars--mostly for how I felt before the experience unraveled. And listen, I get it. Mistakes happen. We're all human. But as someone who eats out frequently, here's one piece of advice: when a restaurant makes a significant mistake with a customer's order, consider taking that item off the bill. Sometimes that gesture is the only reason a guest decides to come back.

The new chef and sommelier make the updated Majestic an incredible addition to the Alexandria restaurant scene. You can go for comfort food - a burger or roasted half chicken - or you can go for intriguing New American food with a Mediterranean twist. It's all terrific. GM and sommelier Jason can suggest great wine pairings by the glass - interesting, high quality wines that bring out the best in both food and wine but that aren't budget busters. Our group especially enjoyed the scallops and saffron rice (a beautifully plated dish of rice surrounded with scallops, mussels, clams and persillade/nduja sauce); the grilled salmon (a hearty piece of fresh fish complemented with a generous serving of corn, pickled ramps, roasted shishito peppers, peas and tomato relish); mouthwatering braised brisket arancini; and crispy artichokes. The Parker House rolls were a classic indulgence. Our desserts - coconut cake and chocolate mousse - were delicious. Thank you to chef Santiago, GM Jason, and server Fiona for such a special evening!

Our server was also absent and took about five - ten minutes to greet us after we sat down. We ordered our food and our drinks at the same time to try to streamline everything. I got the breakfast chilaquiles with a poached egg and my mom made her own breakfast plate with two eggs, poached bacon, sausage, hashbrowns, fruit, and an English muffin. My mom had also ordered an iced tea that still hadn't arrived when the rest of our food and drink had arrived so she canceled it. They sourced a lot of their food from local purveyors, and you can really tell it in the flavor of everything. The sausage was some of the best I've had. Because of all the hiccups, the manager came over and profusely, apologized and even comped part of our meal to make up for the issues. It really felt like they actually cared, and that this was a fluke rather than a regular occurrence, which I really appreciated. Everyone can have an off day.

I hate doing bad reviews, but I HAD TO MOST RIDICULOUS EXPERIENCE. I went here today MARCH 11, 2014 around lunch time with two of my friends. I honestly feel like the waitresses need some training! Let me just get straight to the point. I ordered the Mai Thai Fried Rice which comes with any meat you want and eggs. I had asked to have no meat and just rice and cucumbers on the side, with the egg fried on top and not stirred. The food came with plain rice and a fried egg on a separate plate. I had to remind them to bring me some cucumbers. It tasted "BLAH", not the best fried rice I have had. The check came, and it turned out that they had charged me an extra "$4.95" for the eggs I ordered. I figured there is a huge miscommunication. I called for our waiter, I explained to her that she had NOT told me there was a charge for the egg to be cooked or placed differently on my food. She did not apologize, instead, she said "we charge extra, we charge extra" so many times. Even after I told her that she never mentioned to me that there will be an extra charge for an "extra" egg, which is NOT event extra because it should COME WITH THE FRIED RICE. LOOK AT YOUR MENU! Despite of how disappointed I am, and I know I am right about the situation, the waiter did not care to take it off the receipt or even apologize to me! I was so upset. I thought that was extremely rude and inconsiderate! It was just plain STUPID. Before I left, because I was simply dissatisfied with the waitress, I went downstairs to speak to another one to ask for a manager. She seemed as if she did not want me to see the manager and said that he is somewhere in the back. So I explained to her what happened but it seemed as if she did not care. Mai Thai Old Town, remember the saying "Your customer is always right." Re-evaluate your workers, EDUCATE them and know the basics of the restaurant business. I AM EXTREMELY UNHAPPY! and I DO NOT recommend this restaurant to anyone. read more

I met a friend for lunch at Mai Tai and it was such a treat! We sat outside and enjoyed the beautiful waterfront views on a perfect day, which made the whole experience even better. I ordered the Green Curry Chicken, and it was absolutely delightful -- rich, aromatic, and with just the right amount of spice to give it a zesty kick without being overwhelming. My friend went with the Chicken with Peanut Sauce, which she really enjoyed as well. The portion sizes were generous -- we both left with enough for another full meal. Service was warm and attentive, and the atmosphere was relaxed, making it a great spot to catch up with a friend. If you're in Old Town and want flavorful Thai food with a view, Mai Tai is definitely worth a visit! read more

They have a nice private dining space on their ground floor and were super accommodating for our many requests, both in advance and on the day of. The waitress assigned to our party was also great - super friendly, providing quick service, and thinking of things we might need before we could. This is my favorite restaurant in Old Town, hands down! I love the Pad Thai Tofu, and all the appetizers I've tried have been delicious. The service has always been excellent for me, the prices are great and the views from the tables are amazing. Just writing this makes me want to go again! One thing I haven't tried is the bar, but it looks like they have a lot of creative cocktails. Definitely give this place a shot. read more

Easily one of my favorite Thai places in Old Town. I really like their spring rolls and the fresh garden rolls. In particular, I seem to gravitate to what ever the special dish is. There is a siracha seafood noodles they had one time that I keep hoping will come back. Best of all - they deliver, too! And really fast. I go to Mai Thai on a pretty regular basis for the past few years. I tend to order the same dishes each time, and the taste is ALWAYS consistent. The price is fair and the service is friendly. I love how reliable this restaurant is. It is also a great place to bring company. There is patio seating and indoor upstairs seating with river view. read more

I'll go for thai food anytime. I'll stop by Mai Thai simply because they are so close by the water. I absolutely love their location, especially if I can get an outside table on a warm summer day.
