They arrived past their time window. Both individuals asked to use my bathroom as soon as they arrived. They didn't even try to clean under furniture until I asked them to (and still didn't do a good job). And finally, they left puddles of water in our laundry room and didn't put back equipment that they moved to access the water supply. I have had my carpets cleaned before and I know what to expect from carpet cleaners. Mainstream Carpet Cleaners did none of it. I purchased this deal on Living Social for $45. It was fairly easy to schedule an appointment and I was able to get one within a few days of calling in. They quoted me a 2 hour window (11-1). I sat in an empty condo waiting for them to arrive and by 12:15 and still no show, I finally reached someone at the main office. He told me that the cleaner would call me shortly with an ETA. As promised, he called and said he'd be there within the hour ... I wish he'd just said - I'll be there in 50 - 60 minutes so at least I could have run out to grab a bite to eat. So I continued to sit alone, on the floor in a completely empty condo with no wifi and just my cell phone to entertain me. Thank God for smart phones. When the cleaner arrived, he took one look at my complex and was already shaking his head. He mentioned that he'd been at this location before but some of the units are too far from his truck and the hoses aren't long enough. As it turns out we were able to rig something up and given my first floor location next to a water source and a set of stairs, he had just enough hose to do a cleaning for me - but it was tight and awkward. I helped him pull all this cables up the stairs, through multiple hallways and into my condo and that took 2x a long as the carpet cleaning itself. Bill the cleaner was nice and professional and fast. He was friendly and got the job done quickly - but can't give this top rating when they were so late AND when they didn't have better logistical planning. My first Living Social deal that was too good to be true. After calling 4 times to even get them scheduled (apparently East-Bay-based they aren't too flexible about working in the city). I get a lot of folks in the bay are a little snobby about which bridge(s) they are willing to cross but just don't offer service you're not willing to provide. They were clearly advertised for "San Francisco" on Living Social. It was a hassle to move all the furniture ourselves (isn't that the whole reason you pay a professional to do this instead of rent a machine yourself)? But you get what you pay for huh? They called us at 9 am on the day they were to provide service to see if they could come at 9:30 instead of our scheduled time of 12. They were "in the city" and their two other customers "weren't home". We told them that doesn't work with our schedule; we asked to keep our 12 o'clock appointment. They call at 11 to say they are stuck in traffic in the East Bay and they do not arrive back in SF until after 2 pm. I think a three hour delay in traffic would have made the news but I suspect they went to do another job they didn't have time for. Clearly they held no regard for our scheduled appointment. The carpets seems clean enough but for all the hassle of moving our own furniture and the drama with scheduling it was not worth the savings. Sears cost about $50 more the last time we did this and not only were they way more professional they moved all the furniture and replaced it. read more

When the cleaners got to my home they tried to tell us they would need to charge more to clean our carpets (that basically they did not charge us enough for the Living Social coupon) and when my husband refused they left without saying anything. I think it is poor business not to honor a (paid) Living Social coupon the company advertised and even poorer business for the cleaners to refuse to clean my carpets when they were already at my home (the carpets had normal wear and tear and were only a few years old) so I don't know any other reason than the fact that they did not want to honor the coupon - and to try to bait-and-switch is jut very bad business. I was sold by the idea that only their special solution would clean the spot stains on my carpets. Paid $50 extra for each room and they didn't get the $25 hallway for me. My out of pocket for their service was $145. I should have made my homework at yelp. Upsale left me with $100 less in my wallet. The star is for one of the technicians--the one who actually did the work--who was nice and professional. Otherwise, I'd give them zero stars if possible. I also fell for the Living Social deal. They came during their window, then told me it would be $285 on top of my voucher cost for a shampoo. I called the owner and he basically said tough, but let me talk to the tech. If I wasn't having a birthday party here tomorrow, I'd have sent them away, and eaten the $45 I paid for the voucher and sent them away. Negotiated them down by more than $100, and they offered a "free" steam cleaning within 6 months. Then the negotiating tech left the 2nd guy to go somewhere else. He was nice, but DUMPED his dirty water all over my driveway when he was done. WTF. I've never seen anything like that before. Don't buy the voucher and stay away from these guys!!! With some skepticism, I bought an Amazon Local voucher for carpet cleaning because it was super cheap - my experience with MainStream Carpet Cleaning was a very sucky way to relearn the age old lesson of you get what you pay for. After taking the day off work, spending 2 hours moving my entire living & bedroom into the kitchen, dusting/vacuuming both rooms to prepare for the cleaning, waiting as the promised two hour window came and went, I was told by the guy who finally arrived that he couldn't even do the work because my apt. building didn't have an outdoor water source they needed to connect their machine to! They never asked me about this when I made the appointment, I even asked them if they could do the work in an apt complex and they said I was good to go! When I called the office to tell them what happened, the person I talked to did nothing to assuage my understandable disappointment in their service. In fact, HE yelled at ME, telling me it was my fault for not knowing about the water source requirement! When I suggested they change their procedure to include asking about the water source ahead of time to avoid these situations in the future, he got upset and said the appointment was a waste of his time because it was too far from their office. When I pointed out that it was well within their advertised service area, he called me an A-hole, among other things. Other notable fails: -i was told I would get a 30 minute courtesy call - never did -after calling in several times to get an eta I was told they would "probably" be early (they were late) -after calling in again to get an updated eta, i was told the service worker would call me - he didn't -after calling in again, i was told they'd be there in 5 minutes, I got a call 40 minutes later from the service worker- he had gotten my address wrong and was on the complete other side of town (I gave them the correct address originally). These guys were super unprofessional and rude and clearly don't know how to make things right when they mess up a job. Beware of upselling/shady practices by MainStream Carpet Cleaning. I purchased a recently advertised Living Social voucher for $45 ($160 value, an advertised 72% savings) which was suppose to clean 1200 square feet. I wanted to use it to clean the three bedrooms in a house. My three rooms are carpeted in a light tan burlap carpet (120.66 sq.ft. + 130.55 sq. ft. + 177.62 sq. ft. = TOTAL 428 sq. ft.). Keep in mind this is under the 1200 square feet cleaning which is valued at $160 to clean (according to the value listed on Living Social. Upon arrival, one of the guys took a look at my carpets, and said I would need to do a "deep cleaning" to get some of the stains out. He stated that what I purchased was just for a "steam cleaning" and would not get the stains out. If you have stains on your carpet, anticipate to pay for the deep cleaning. The cleaner also said that he would do a Scotch Guard coat and a "brightener" in the carpet. He said it would cost $150 on top of the $45 ($160 value) voucher which I already purchased. If we take the $160 value of the voucher and add $150 on top of it, we're talking about a $310 cost for "deep cleaning" for three rooms totaling 428 sq. ft. The cleaner then told me (in a manner that seems like it was a good deal for me) that he would let me keep my Living Social voucher to use next time. Let's keep in mind that carpet cleaning is not something that can be done on a whim. It takes considerable time and effort to clear off everything in the rooms in a house for cleaning. My thinking here was that the Living Social voucher was basically a $45 throw away at this point. To me, this is evident of aggressive selling practices and not a customer oriented service. In my situation, I had to get the carpets cleaned in time for people moving in the next day and didn't have time to look for another service (even though I've already paid for the Living Social voucher). For me it was a $195 out of pocket ($45 Living Social voucher + $150 payment to cleaners). I didn't want to spend more time or delay the move-in. I just wanted to get it done and went ahead with the cleaning. When they were done, I asked for an invoice, which they were unable to provide, but said they would email it to me. I provided them with my email address on a piece of paper and will update this review in a few days if I receive anything from them. In regards to the carpet, the visible stains that were on the carpet do seem to have been removed by the cleaning. Protection from any Scotch Guard coating or "brightener" cannot be determined at this time. I will update this review on the condition of the carpets after they have dried. Additional notes: - The van that came was not marked as MainStream Carpet Cleaning. I think they contract services out to other providers depending on location. The level of service you get may depend on your location. - They gave me a two hour arrival window, which meant I basically had to be home most of afternoon to wait for them. They arrived late (20 min) outside of that two hour window. - I just had the walls of my bedrooms painted yesterday and after inspection of the rooms, I saw several gray marks a bit higher than waist high on the white walls. I know that these were not there prior to the carpet cleaning because the walls were inspected after painting. I imagine that this was caused by the handle of the cleaning equipment when they back up into the wall. I asked one of the cleaners about this, but he denied bumping into the walls. - There was water left outside of the rooms on my wood floors. - Total cleaning time was 1 hour. Bottom line advice: Unprofessional business. Would not recommend. read more

I too fell for the Amazon "deal." I paid $49 for the Amazon carpet cleaning. When they arrived I asked if some particularly bad spots could be cleaned. I mentioned that I would pay more for deep cleaning if the spots could be removed. He said "no problem, we can get those out." After spending an extra $135 for deep cleaning and stairs (not mentioned on the voucher, but not surprised by the upsale), most of the spots still remain. They also didn't clean some of the corner areas and I was told that they didn't have a tool for that. Really?! I'm not one to hassle about price after it's been negotiated. However, he knew I wasn't happy with the job and he didn't actually get the job done. A price adjustment was definitely in order. Btw, $200 and they were in and out in 30 minutes (maybe less). Mainstream came out and treated our carpet heavily and thoroughly with cleaning solution, and its appearance is improved. However, one of the crew members was resentful about coming out again, and made no secret of it. That was REALLY unpleasant. The other crew member managed to remain friendly even though his pal was yelling at him. When I asked about our partial refund, they disclaimed any knowledge of that arrangement and then followed by saying that his boss would mail it to us. He also stood on our front porch talking to his boss rather loudly and said that there was no reason to give a refund. That will be a week tomorrow. All in all, they were here again for a very brief time, and couldn't leave soon enough, not even bothering to reconnect our garden hose. If the refund comes, I will update. I used a Living Social coupon to use MainStream Carpet Cleaning in July, 2014. The deal was $45 for three rooms. When the cleaner came he suggested I also purchase a special treatment that cost $50 extra per room. I agreed, so ended up paying $200. The special treatment did remove a shoe polish stain on one carpet. However, the crew created two stains on my living room rug that had not been there before. They also left muddy footprints on my hardwood hallway. And, despite my specifically requesting that they not do so, they left the garden hose disconnected (I have issues with my hands and reconnecting the hose was painful.) I called Eric Wilson at MainStream to complain about the stains and he told me to take a photo and send him it via email, which I did. I then called him repeatedly to try to get a crew back to remove their stains but to no avail. Now I will have to have a different cleaning service clean up their mess. Stanley steamers and other competition aren't really concerned with your carpets enough to do deep cleaning or to assess your carpet properly. They took the time to review the carpet, see the problem areas, were fast, courteous and kind. They took their time but were smart with their time and they listened to what was needed and what I wanted done. I called them on the 30th to schedule an appointment on January 2nd, and they were available to take me which was surprising considering it was on such short notice and the day after the New Year. After receiving our voucher I yelped their business and was a little concerned with some of their reviews, but I figured we would just see how it went. Jared and his partner showed up on time, were very kind and quickly got to work. There were some tough stains in our walkway area, and everything came up perfectly. No issues whatsoever. They were finished in about 20 minutes. They were extremely professional, which was important because I had no where to be but in their way, so the fact they were very easy to work with was a huge plus. When Jared first entered the apartment he noticed that my screen door was broken, and once he finished cleaning my carpets he asked for a screw and started fixing my screen door! That was not at all what I had expected, and was very pleased. They absolutely went above and beyond. They did such a great job that I will be giving their phone number to our landlord to refer them to all of our tenants. I will never go to another company for a carpet cleaning. At 11 I called and asked if they were showing up and the person said that it's a window between 11 and 1. So I asked them if they could have the technicians call me and give me some idea of ETA and they said that they would have the techs call me. Nothing happened. At 1245 I called again and asked if they were coming and the guy on the phone says that he'll call the techs and then call me back himself. Again, nothing. So at 1 I just called Amazon and got a refund on the voucher. Maybe these guys are good if they ever make it to an appointment. I called to confirm and was told they are on their way but may be delayed by1-1.5 hours. They were coming from Antioch so I was expecting the delay. They arrived at 11:20, and went right to work. I had major stains on the carpet and was expecting major upsell but instead he was very easy going. I told him my landlord had a limited budget for carpet cleaning so we agree on a price for the spot removal and they went to work. 30 min later they are done. Very courteous and professional.
