Overall, the experience was great. I had powder gel my nails, which I had stated when making an appointment. I was informed it would be no problem taking off, but they don't use powder at their store. Great, as long as someone was able to remove my original polish. During the removal process, not only was the polish removed but so were the top layers of my nail. Weeks later, when I went to get the Maison de Beaute's gel removed back at my usual store, my nails were incredibly weak, split and ripped. If you have powder prior to your appointment, I'd make sure to have them removed elsewhere. However, if you're going in for different services like a pedicure, I would recommend this place. My review is primarily focused around the experience of removing the powder. read more

I've never been to a better salon! Everyone who has worked on my nails has been kind, helpful, and professional. The salon is always clean, organized, and such a welcoming environment. It's my favorite place for my self-care days. Yuki has been doing my nails for about a year now and her work is flawless! When I arrived I texted my manicurist the designed I wanted and she proceeded to give me short sharp nails, even though I kept saying they didn't look like the picture I sent to her. I asked if I could make an appointment with another nail artist and pay for a new manicure service. The staff started to speak to each other in Korean completely mishandling the situation. Very disappointed with my first experience here and it's a shame because I so wanted it to to be a great one! I live in the neighborhood and always walk by. The woman who did my nails (Amy) was cold as ice, rushed, rough and seemed annoyed with me the entire time. It was very uncomfortable. She did a lovely job on my nails, however, her handling is very rough. She was filing my nails quick with force and ended up filing my skin. I said "ouch. Please don't file my skin." No sorry, no nothing. She also seemed annoyed when I took my time to carefully place my hand in the UV lamp so that I don't hit the sides and mess up my nails. She also wasn't very helpful when I asked questions and it wasn't just the language barrier. At one point I said, "I'm sorry it I don't understand. " The woman next to her translated and then it all made sense. I basically felt shamed for asking questions and seeking recommendations.I mean, she's the pro, right? If I'm asking questions it because I'm seeking expertise. When I'm paying $70+ for a gel mani I expect a higher level of service and it starts with a welcoming energy. I def did not get that here. At one point I had to look her in the eye and ask her: "Are you ok? You seemed rushed and annoyed." It was literally fail after fail. She also started muttering things to herself which I could not understand. I'm sure she wasn't paying me any compliments tho! Rude. Also, the pedicures here are basic like a Starbucks pumpkin spice latte. I asked if I could pay for extended massage and it was not an option. They don't offer elevated soaks, scrubs or long massage packages. Soon as it gets close to paying she flips the switch and is all nice and conversational, which made the experience even worse because it comes off fake and calculated. I found Yolo Studio because they're the sister salon to Nail Club 20, where I use to go for Gel X. I wanted to try Yolo Studio because they're new and can do intrigue nail designs. I saw some of their work on IG and it looked so nice. For my birthday, I wanted a sparkly diamond Gel X set. I made an appointment via text and it was fast and easy. I sent in a photo of what I wanted and got an estimated quote. Make sure to let them know exactly what you want so they can schedule enough time. l Environment l Yolo Studio is located in Downtown Pasadena, so street parking sucks. I couldn't find any free parking for a long period of time so I paid $7 for 3 hours at a public parking lot. It was a 1 minute walk to Yolo Studio. The nail salon is very clean with a pink theme. Great movie selection and you can watch shows while getting your nails done. l Gel X + Design l Queenie was my nail technician and we started right on time with my appointment. First, she removed my acrylic nails ($15). Price was a bit steep for acrylic removal with service. I got Gel X with coffin shape ($55) and showed Queenie the design I wanted. I like how she told me how much everything cost before I got any service done. I wanted 8 nail design ($40). This set cost me $110 + tip. The pricing for Gel X with design is not too bad because it took 3 hours for the entire process. l Nail Experience l Lets start off by saying how great of a nail technician Queenie was. She was friendly and communicated very well. She made sure that I like my nails before moving on to the next step during the process. Queenie was extremely talented, detailed-oriented, and took the time in doing her work. You can show her any design you want and she'll do her best to recreate them. The results came out beautiful! I was very impressed and these nails are the nicest set I've ever gotten. l 1 Week Later l The only downside was that there was clear residue left on my right index and pinky finger, where the gems were located that I did not see until I got home. It wasn't an issue at first, but throughout the week, those 2 nails started changing color. The residue turned pink-ish and looked stained. It was very noticeable. They do let you come back within the week to make any fixes if there are problems. However, I do live 30 miles away and parking is hard to find. I didn't have the time to go back. l Conclusion l I still love my nails and it's a work of art. Gel X is a healthy alternative to acrylics and you can get so many designs. All the crystals and diamonds make my nails so sparkly. I got so many compliments! It has been a week and all the gems are still intact. For the most part, I'm very happy with my nails despite the stains. I'll come back whenever I want to bling out my nails for any special occasions. read more

And well ok nail polish can be defective, but even the pedicure itself was low quality.. my nails weren't cleaned, my cuticles cleanup was minimal and the scrubbing on the bottom of my feet was no good either. Even now after moving to Orange County, I still make the drive every month to get my nails done. There is simply no one like her. She has an exceptional eye for detail, extremely knowledgeable of her craft, and a strong sense of creative artistry. Every time I come in with a style/design in mind, she is able to execute it above and beyond my expectations. I admit I am very particular and picky with what I like on my nails and she knows exactly what to do. I also take her advice on more specific details I could add to my designs to further enhance a look. Erika also spends a lot of time into making sure the salon follows Covid guidelines and protocols. I had dipping Powder coming in so I was charged extra $10 to remove. Was disappointed in the extra charge bc it wasnt listed on their nail menu and neither the owner or the nail technician bothered to mention it. Despite not being clear on the price, my nails came out great. My nail technician took her time and recommend the nail polish and ombre even though, I had originally selected the cat eye design. She steered me away from that selection bc it would be extra, but I was still charged the extra $10 for the ombre she suggested, so I wasn't sure what that was about...maybe it would take too long? Or she didn't want to or know how to do it? It's a beautiful design, so I'm interested in trying it out so maybe next time? In any case, I'm still happy with the result bc the nail polish is clear and natural looking which it is something that I already had in mind. Definitely looking forward to seeing how long the Japanese gel lasts. I was charged: Japanese gel base price of $40, plus $10 for dipping powder removal, $10 for ombre, and $1 extra for using my credit card so a total of $61 excluding tip. This is a nail studio that requires an appointment! Be aware that you can't change your mind about what you want to do once you get there. Meaning, if you want gel nails with design you have to tell them when making your appointment. You can't ask for a regular mani and then show up to your appointment and ask for gel and design. They run on a strict and tight schedule, so it makes sense. Gel X with design will take more time than a regular mani. I found this nail salon on Instagram and just fell in love with the designs! I had also never heard of gel x before but was intrigued so I made an appointment with a friend and got ombré gel x. If you've only had acrylics before I would totally recommend gel x! It feels light and like it's my actual nail! It's very durable as well! I love it! I appreciate how Ying, my manicurist and how all of the manicurist here are diligent and really into their craft. They're amazing artists and it's very cool that they are patient and so meticulous about their work. So even if the prices are steep, $55 for gel x and additional cost for design (I've paid $70-$80 not including tip), it's worth it for what you get. Oh and gel x removal is $10. I was super excited to come to this place based on the reviews but it was honestly really bad. The woman clowned me for not wanting to do a Gel X manicure when i just wanted the regular $28 manicure. She made fun of my short nails and said there's really nothing she can do with them because they're so short and it's pointless to get your nails done when they're not going to look any prettier. I just laughed cause I was uncomfortable but I probably should've left. She did an ok job at doing the regular cuticle clean up but she didn't even attempt to shape my nails. I get that they're short but like at least shape them. She said I should've stayed home and that it was a waste. I just wanted to feel relaxed and it was the opposite. The worst part was that she didn't think I should do a color and she chose a light pink which I was fine with but she said it just won't look the same because of my skin color. Absolutely no filing. I would honestly really want my money back because it was humiliating and the fact that I had to pay for that to happen was just awful.
