I want to change my four star to a five star review because the owner took the time to reach out and thank me for my honest feedback. Makai should do what they're best at which is preparing delicious grilled island style food that people come to enjoy. In a perfect world if I were to come back, I would enjoy seeing a steamed broccoli or veggie medley offered as a side dish so I could have a protein with a low-carb options besides the mac salad, rice, corn, or edamame. Corn and edamame are not technically vegetables . Corn is a grain edamame is a bean Both are higher in carbs. If I'm looking for something lower calorie & lower carb, those would not be my first choice. I would definitely frequent Makai more if a steamed veggie side were an option. I also know that I am probably of a small percentage of people who care about this or would want it. Keep doing what you're great at Makai! read more

We came here to grab their $5 bowls.. which if you ask me it's a bargain. It comes with rice and your choice of meat. Now keep in mind this place does weight the meat.. I've gone to other locations where they don't even bother weighting the meat... either way you can beat $5 lunch bowl. Since this Makai is the closest one to my house so I decided to eat here tonight and I was sorely disappointed. I'm usually satisfied with this place but tonight's Kalua Pig had no taste at all! I was sooo hungry for Kalua Pig and I think that's the worse Kalua Pig I've ever eaten. When they open up the cover I saw that the Kalua Pig was filled with water but there was no saltiness to it and no smokiness to it. It was tasteless that it was not pleasurable to eat. So I ended up eating only rice. Very disappointing on this trip. I hope that doesn't happen again. read more

Great experience at Makai's Summerlin location! I usually go to the location on Fort Apache and I never have any complaints there. Service was fast and staff were friendly. The teriyaki beef had this smoky bbq flavor that was delicious. The chicken katsu featured large pieces of chicken (minimal breading!!) and wasn't soggy. The spicy ahi tuna tasted fresh and also had great flavor. The Mac salad was great and garlic edamame was a good side choice also. You're definitely getting your money's worth. read more

I come to this location often and I enjoy the food but today unfortunately I was very disappointed with the service/ portions. My sister and I ordered Kalbi ribs and got told it would be a 10 minute wait which was no problem. The problem was when we finally got the ribs it was only two pieces each..., I even went back up to ask if there was a mistake and maybe it was accidentally only one serving. The lady at the cash register told me that it was indeed two servings and seemed to not be interested in my problem. i don't expect world class service but at least pretend to care/listen to what im saying. Absolute WORST customer service I have EVER experienced at a restaurant. My friend and I paid for a pickup order close to closing simply because there was an online deal and we were hungry. I go there to pick up the food maybe 5-10 minutes before closing. They said they didn't have any more food to complete that order, which I completely understood and simply asked them to replace the original order for the other food that was still available since we weren't picky and were just hungry. The staff then begins verbally complaining to me about how we should not have placed the order in the first place, and proceeds to throw the food around and then slide the food to me in the bag over the counter. I would not have picked this place for our first meal in Vegas. But it was a winner. At $10-$20 per person, they give you a generous portion of pretty good bbq. I've never been to the islands and couldn't tell you quality Hawaiian over mundane. I do concur that this tastes great and is a fun meal. As we tend to do a lot, we joined a group of eight and made everything community food. You get a very small taste of many dishes, like a sampler. This way we are better prepared for our next visit. Very quickly, The kimchi was splendid. The Teriyaki Chicken and the Brown rice were a bit dry. The Kalua Pig is a must try as is the Mochiko Chicken. I first started eating at makai's original location on Fort Apache when they first opened up. Back then, they didn't weigh their food. Portions have definitely become smaller. I got a 3 item plate with mochiko chicken, Teri chicken, katsu and two servings of mac salad. As you can see in the photo, the meat portions are tiny. It all tasted the same as I remember which is pretty good, but they now use these little prepackaged aloha brand containers of Teri sauce instead of their own recipe. They used to have sauce available in these big squirt containers for customers but maybe that got taken away during Covid? I prefer their old Teri sauce. The space is like their other locations. honestly i usually love this restaurant but it was my first time coming to this location. We ordered an online order around opening time. our order was waiting for us and we opened it to put some napkins in. We noticed we didn't have our side of poke we paid for. We asked the front counter, and both people working there laughed and said they knew 1 of the orders had a side of poke but wasn't sure which one. Additionally, when we got home we realized we had paid extra to swap a side out for macaroni salad and did not get any macaroni salad! Very upsetting and would never come to this location again.
