Family friendly and cozy restaurant. It's perfect for Summer & Spring - The outdoor seating is a plus. It was a popular venue. It's certainly a place where mother's with young children (or pregnant) will be accommodated. We came here for breakfast because it advertised vegan friendly - but the options were severely limited. The food was okay. The vegan/vegetarian meat substitute was undercooked. It appeared crisp on the outside but once you bit into it was a terrible soggy consistency. The French toast came out almost 10 minutes before the sides were ready. The higher rating is for the friendliness and attentiveness of our server. She was so sweet and pleasant. We checked out Malia's because of others reviews. The cafe was clean with plenty of seating indoor and outdoor. The decor is a mix of antique and playful with some Hawaiian vibes. The wait staff was kind and attentive. My wife ordered a BVD sandwich. She said it was delicious so I'll take her word for it. She is generally and pickier eater. I had the Nashville hot chicken and waffles. It was good but not amazing. I would have personally preferred the chicken to be a bit juicier and crispier. I swapped out the Mac for hash browns which I thought were quite good. Overall, it was a great experience. If you are in town and looking for a brunch place, I wholeheartedly recommend this place. Just make sure you stop by early. It gets busy after 9 and I believe it closes early around noon. While I am giving this place 5/5, I would personally rate food 4/5, service 5/5, ambiance 5/5. read more

This is such a good breakfast and lunch spot in Ocean City. Its located on a good street but can get a little crowded during the summer. I got the pancakes with chocolate chips and bananas and they were so perfect. I've never had anything from here that wasn't good. The service is also very nice and the food comes out quick. Parking is difficult to find like most of the business in the area. We sat outside which faces a hotel parking lot. The table we were seated wasn't cleaned off...sheeesh. We were looking for a breakfast spot without an hour wait (Many of the decent breakfast spots in North OC have lines out the door on a Sunday morning). We saw Malina's Cafe was on a side street attached to a hotel, so after checking YELP we decided to try it. VERY glad we did. My picky kids loved the pancakes and French toast and I loved my veggie hash (as pictured; could be better with a sunny side up egg on top but so yum with a dash of Tabasco!) I think this is the nicest breakfast restaurant in Ocean City. It's very apparent the owners care about the customer experience. It runs smoothly but doesn't hurry the customer either. I'm informed the ladies restroom is large, clean and beautifully decorated. Malia's is well staffed and they are efficient and attentive without hovering. The breakfast menu is "normal" except the coffee is not normal. This is, hands down, the BEST COFFEE in Ocean City. There are also daily specials that are indeed special. All reasonably priced. The oatmeal with fruit is fantastic and cheap. Nobody else serves oatmeal that way. Other breakfast places can't compete with this locally owned and operated business model. Took a while to have server come over and get our drink order despite the restaurant not appearing so busy, even on a Saturday morning. Food was very good as were the offerings, they do have SOME GF options like the English muffin and small waffles. I was hoping for GF pancakes but substitute was good. The only reason not giving 5 stars- our server put me off a little. She just looked depressed, didn't say anything wrong but no smiles, no enthusiasm which I would expect of someone working for tips. We could tell she was the same with all the guests around us and everyone was being very pleasant. She messed up a couple of small things in order which she fixed and gave us replacements. Not sure as to how familiar the cook staff is with vegan/vegetarian meat substitute but the vegan/vegetarian "sausage" was undercooked or cooked too quickly as the outside was crispy while the inside was very undercooked. The gluten-free waffle was of a decent consistency but came out roughly ten minutes before the sides and was accompanied by a dejected slice of watermelon. I was impressed with the courtesy at this restaurant as I've noticed lots of bad customer service and terrible attitudes in around OC surprisingly so it was refreshing to stumble upon smiles and good energy and food. Our breakfast order (carry out) was close to inedible: We started with a phone call to find out if they could make their sandwiches with fried rather than scrambled eggs. The response was "sure" ...great! We ordered one with egg over medium; the other over hard. Fast forward to getting home. Any guesses? Yep, both scrambled. In addition, the cheese was not fully melted in spite of being in a plastic container for several minutes. And the bacon had such a hideous, artificial maple (?) flavor that we threw it away. Such a shame for us-a place that is literally just steps from our condo and we will go father afield to get something decent. ********************************** I'm editing my review and here is why: I called and reported the problem not expecting or asking for any compensation-I just wanted them to know about the mix up. We stopped into Malia's on our way out of town, for breakfast. we were seated quickly and I noticed that I really liked the vibe. Very cute inside, comfy little place. Our server took our order and brought our drinks. She delivered our breakfast to us and then disappeared. Like, I considered filing a report because girlfriend straight vanished. My omelette was more like an egg crepe, it was very thin. It was filled with burnt, sweet, maple bacon. Decent sausage, and some veggies. There was a good amount of filling, but did not taste good because the bacon was sweet and way too crispy. Husband didn't love his pancakes, but I thought they tasted pretty good. Server never checked on us once, never refilled drinks. We had to flag down another staff member to bring us our check and run the cc. Before we left, another customer came in and requested seating and they turned him away. They said they weren't seating for lunch yet (it was around 11:30), but he said that he even called to verify. Really enjoyed this cute little breakfast place right off the boardwalk. It was busy when we arrived around 10am on a Saturday morning, but got seated about 25 minutes later. Our server Vicki, was attentive and always checked on us to make sure we were happy. I decided on the red, white and blue waffle special which contains blueberries, strawberries and coconut flakes on top. Can you say delicious? The coconut flakes is what made it even more better for me as I am a huge fan of anything coconut. The waffles were light and fluffy and you can tell the fruit was fresh. The only thing that wasn't as good were the home fries, which were undercooked and didn't taste how they should have. Luckily, the bacon we got on the side made up for the homefries. The bacon was maple glazed, thick cut and perfectly crispy. I wanted about 10 more but I had to control myself. Everyone at my table enjoyed their food as well, no complaints.
