Visiting Montana from Texas I was intrigued to try their take on Latin Fusion in Whitefish. Sadly was so disappointed. I really hope this was an off night but might've been one of the worst meals I've ever had. Tortillas were uncooked/cold. Literally only ingredients were bad tortillas, cole slaw, chunk of fish, and a sauce. (I asked for no cilantro) Scrap this whole recipe and start over please. Slight redemption with decent chips and queso, the salsa was just watered down tomatoes. In all my time in Mexico, Cali, Texas, and Miami those tacos made me sad. Wow, the Pollo Limon is such a well balanced meal. As soon as it was served I knew it was going to be good. Absolutely perfectly cooked chicken. Lightly crunched skin - meat was tender and juicy. A side of rice, beans, sweet plantains and even a small salad. The lemon sauce that the chicken was served on was a slightly tart lemon sauce that looked like it was cooked with onions and garlic. Clean, hearty, and savory at the same time. The perfect meal after a long day's hike @ Glacier. My wife got beef quesadillas, they weren't bad, but she ended up eating off my plate! We have walked by this place so many times, had always said we'd try it, but never had since there are so many great options for dining in Whitefish. However, there are not many options open around lunchtime on a Sunday in Whitefish that aren't meat heavy, fried bar food, so this place was really the one option that looked good to us. Upon walking in, I was actually very impressed with the warm and inviting atmosphere. The exterior of the building looks a bit rough, but the interior is a classic, approachable sit down restaurant. First win of the lunch - they have fresh brewed ice tea! Yay! I ordered the shrimp tacos and my partner ordered mahi-mahi. We both asked for rice without thinking what kind of rice it was going to be..... Anyway, the food came out quickly and the shrimp tacos were delicious, and my partner really enjoyed his mahi, which he said was seasoned nicely. Overall, we had a great lunch. But, why only 4 stars? It's the rice that caused me to dock this place one star. I know that in more Cuban style food they serve white rice, but serving plain white rice with tacos just didn't make me happy. Mama's used to be my go-to place to drop in and get a yummy margarita and some amazing chips and guacamole, after a day of running around. I wasn't ever disappointed by anything else I've ordered either. Now they've apparently changed to a lower quality food supplier. We didn't even get to ordering anything after we tasted the chips they served with the salsa. They were the same as the kind you get at a traveling carnival, the fake cheese nachos chips. They're HORRIBLE! Vaguely stale, too strong of a toasted corn flavor and overly salted. Even Tostitos are better than these chips. Mama's chips used to be AMAZING! I'm a little puzzled by the lukewarm reviews of Mama Blancas. Hubby and I walked in on a Sunday evening and enjoyed a hearty and tasty meal provided with friendly service. The restaurant space is large and looks very kid-friendly. They have a children's menu and we saw many families dining in. There is a parlor in the back with billiards and other games. We were seated with no wait, and our server made good recommendations on drinks and food. The guacamole exceeded our expectations and the margarita decent. Hubs got the street tacos with 3 different proteins to sample, and I got Mama's burrito in a bowl with sauces. We both agree the barbacoa was delicious and the best of the proteins we tasted. We'd absolutely be back the next time we're in Whitefish. read more

Fish tacos featuring grilled mahi mahi should be good. This place proved me wrong. I'll question whether the fish was mahi mahi but, more importantly, the fish was bland and seemed warmed not grilled. The choice of adding coconut and mango to very dry tacos only made them taste even worse. Honestly, this was no better than assembly-line menu food at your typical taco chain. The ceviche, while better, was a small portion surrounded by what seemed like an entire grocery store bag quantity of nachos. At least the Negro Modelo was dependably good. read more

Our party of two arrived at 12:15 on Saturday after was was seated immediately on a high top. Initial waitress greeting was slow, and ours was done after others who were seated after us. Drink and meal orders taken, the our two taco only meals served within 30 minutes. Both my Fish Taco, and wife's Steak Street Tacos were dry, and without sauces. Waitress disappeared, and did not do an initial "are your meals ok" check for another 15 minutes. We are practically done by then. She then disappeared mostly, but was easily seen chatting up another waiter for another ten minutes. Our bill was given upon request, and we were out of there. Rice was just plain white rice, beans were undercooked and hard. Tostones were cooked really well but, again, no seasoning. And the salad was topped with... maybe some oil? I ate because I'd been hiking all day and finally sat down to a meal but man.... THEN THEY CHARGED ME $4 OVER MENU PRICE and didn't even offer to honor the menu price when I asked. (Website still shows $20, menu shows $20, they charged $24) waitress said they just updated the menu and she'd let her manager know. She went and checked the menu, took it to her manager, and didn't bother coming back or knocking the price back to what was published. :/ My dinner partner had tacos-- her review? Carne asada had no flavor and the tortillas weren't toasted (one was three tortillas thick?) Not much to say. Just okay. Bathroom: really gross, one stall out of order, one plugged, and the other two had TP on the floor/toilet seat. Both hand dryers broken and rolls of paper towel sitting on wet sink. So good! The chips and salsa were very good. No watered down salsa here, but it did need a little salt. Both the mojo pork & carne asada street tacos were delicious. Highly recommend. You can even get them as delicate little lettuce wraps - beautiful & tasty! If you're really hungry, get the mamma burrito. It's about the size of a football, and full of flavor. If you really want to go nuts, get it smothered in ranchero and verde sauces, and add the rice, beans and salad. You're definitely going to need stretchy pants, and probably a nap after that meal, but it's delicious! read more

I am writing specifically about the Palm Cocktail Event Space that is above Mama Blanca's. We hosted a rehearsal dinner there, and we couldn't have been more pleased. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The space is amazing; it is decorated to be a speak easy, but we went in early and redecorated it in a western theme.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Kevin and Tony could not have been more helpful. Kevin made reserving easy, and Tony met us early at the venue to let us in to decorate. The cost was extremely reasonable, especially for Whitefish. The dinner was great. We had a taco bar from Mama Blanca's. Despite my fear that we would run out of food (we had 60 people), there was just the right amount, and a few people even went back for seconds. Kevin was a fantastic bartender. Even though he was working alone, he kept up with no problems. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Everyone seemed to have a great time. Worst customer service experience ever. I've actually never felt more compelled to write a review. We came in to this spot trying to get a few margaritas before the big sky concert and we were served 1942. Is it just me? Or does everyone not know you have to ask for 1942. We asked for a Do. Julio margarita and we're charged for a full bottle of 1942. Who puts 1942 in a margarita? After arguing with the owner/manager we were presented with $300 bill for 6 margaritas and that was rude! Our waiter however, was so sweet and kind. Our server walked by our table 5 times that we counted and never checked on us (or looked at us) before we went up to the counter to ask for more water. Fine but not stellar. This place was crazy busy with most restaurants in town closed for the holiday. It was slammed with patrons and the staff (although tons of them randomly milling around) seemed like they could hardly keep up. It took a while to get a table, and then to get our order in, but after that, the food came incredibly quickly! So obviously the kitchen was keeping up just fine. The house margaritas were quite strong. I had the verduras street tacos which weren't my favorite. Mostly because of the weird drizzle of some kind of mayo sauce on top. It was completely unnecessary and kind of ruined what otherwise would have been a great veggie taco with queso fresco and cilantro. After trying the first one (an order comes with three), I tried to scrape the sauce off the other two but unfortunately it just sort of smeared all over. Que lastima. The packaging was nice and they gave all of the necessary utensils and sauces. The packaging was eco-friendly and they did not use Styrofoam. Food: My husband and I got the cerado wet burrito and Caribbean corn. The wet burrito was really tasty and the meat was cooked to perfection. The portion was appropriate and easy to share. The Caribbean corn was decent but lacking in flavor. It could've used more sauce. Value: The burrito was $10 and two half pieces of corn was four dollars. Mama Blancas was a nice surprise. I don't know what I expected walking in but what we got was incredible. It's one of the many restaurants in Whitefish but this one stands out a bit because it's a Mexican, Cuban and everything in between kinda place. It has flavors and style from all over the world. Obviously you go to restaurants for food though, the burrito I had at mamas was the mamas burrito and it was absolutely mouth watering, a few days later I can't stop thinking about it. They had about 15 min wait and we were seated on time. The food is not good. I paid 22$ for a tiny unseasoned piece of mahi mahi, which had a tiny amount of pineapple salsa. They serve fried bananas with it (??) which were like dessert and they made my rice sweet too. The side salad was good. The fish lacked even salt. So did the beans. My husband got the spicy shrimp and those were okay. The sauce is spicy though. We can handle a lot of spice and this will make you sweat. I was so hungry that that I had rice and his sauce to fill up. My margarita was not good either. The saving grace were churros. That too it's two tiny pieces of churros in one portion! We paid 68$ before tip and it felt like money wasted. I felt quite frustrated. The service is also subpar. Our waitress didn't ask us what beans or rice options we wanted. We got the white rice and black beans. She got our check even before asking if we wanted dessert. Please go to Abruzzo across the street, the wait is more but it's sooo soo worth it. I promise!! We were back in Whitefish to visit a relative who's dying of cancer, and found ourselves needing to grab a bite after 9PM one night, and having enjoyed several good meals here in the past we chose Mama Blanca's. We found the food good again this time, but the complete lack of masks and social-distancing observed on our most recent visit on April 3rd far overshadowed the quality of the meal and make it impossible to recommend. If you've been fully vaccinated it may be worth the risk, but for anyone else stay away or order takeout. Tables were seated too close together, mask-wearing was not practiced by staff nor enforced with customers. We saw a couple off tables get seated and then up and leave recognizing the situation, and a member of our party left before her food arrived because she was just too uncomfortable with the lack of concern for the health and safety of their customers. Our meal at Mama Blancas was easily the most unsafe situation anyone in our party of 6 has experienced since the beginning of the pandemic over a year ago, and we will not be returning any time soon. To be fair Mama Blanca's isn't the only establishment in Whitefish not taking adequate care to protect their patrons, but they claim to be enforcing mask wearing and social distancing and that claim is clearly not true, and we didn't dine in any of the others. For your own health and safety, as well as the health and safety of your loved ones I'm sorry to say I have to recommend you stay far away from Mama Blanca's until this pandemic is behind us or their management wakes up and takes the public health risk they're creating seriously. read more
