Thank to Amanda and Gabby for the best service we have had in years. We came as a family to Mama Cella's to send off our nephew to the Navy and it was his last meal. Mama Cella's exceeded our expectations in every single way. The food, service, and ambiance was everything we could have wanted and more. I will repeat myself the food was so delicious and we haven't tasted authentic Italian food like that in I can't even remember but it's been too long. The restaurant's recipe for the pizza dough and sauce were stellar. Thank you so much for making our experience so unforgettable and special. We will see you again very soon. Love, The Mendoza family

We ordered takeout from Mama Cella's while in the area, and were so delighted by every delicious item! I'm still thinking about the Penne Alla Cardinal weeks later. And that pizza crust was so chewy in the best way! Service was prompt. Excited to go back and dine inside some time soon to experience the full ambiance.

It took a long time for the hubs and I to make a decision on tonight's dinner (how did adulting become one long and frustrating back-and-forth on evening dining?) We found Mama Cella's on, like, page 6 of 9 on Yelp, and ordered with a sense of urgency, given they were closing in 34 minutes. I couldn't pass up the Penne Alla Cardinal ($19), and my husband opted for his go-to Italian meal: penne pasta with marinara sauce and a meatball ($14, plus $6 for the meatball.) We both also added a side salad ($5) because vegetables. Fifteen minutes later, we were back at the hotel with two piping hot bowls of pasta, a packet of garlic bread and small containers of greens and croutons. The salad, though basic, was refreshing and tasty. I never feel like I'm given enough salad dressing (ranch, in this case), but that could be me and my need to over-sauce salads, effectively canceling out any nutrition coming from the veggies. But y'all, that Penne Alla Cardinal? Insanely good. You wouldn't think that something that looks so simple - sun dried tomatoes and a tomato cream sauce - could taste so good, but it was incredibly yummy. I had to force myself to slow down and chew to stop myself from inhaling the plate in record time. And the garlic bread was the perfect side for the pasta. The bread was saturated with butter and garlic, slightly crispy and slightly chewy. I got my hand slapped trying to snag one of my husband's pieces of bread. Speaking of the husband, he was in his happy place, chowing down on the penne and the meatballs, which he said were really good, some of the better meatballs he's had in a while. We both really enjoyed the meal, and he said the staff was friendly and welcoming when he walked in to pick up our order, which we appreciated, especially since they were just about ready to close for the night. We're going to keep this restaurant on rotation for those nights where we don't want to cook and maybe want to eat before we make the drive back down home after a day at the office. Though maybe not too often, because it's not the most economical of meals. But it's worth it!

Our first meal there, Saturday lunch on a whim. I love the fact that it's a family run place. Service was so friendly and informative and the food was just wonderful. I had the lasagne (easily could feed 4 people - took home a bunch) and my guy had the chicken parm sandwich. Both were really delicious. Tyler took such good care of us, even giving us a meatball to try, which was fabulous. Tiramisu for desert was light and tasty. We will be back!

Nice little family run Italian restaurant in Rancho Bernardo that my friend recommended to us. It's small so it's best to make reservations in advance. We were lucky to snag their last table on a Friday evening. Service was stellar. Everyone was friendly and warm. We were checked on often and our dishes arrived in a timely manner. The food was hit or miss. I ordered the clam linguine with spicy red sauce. It was on the heavy side and loaded with clams, but a bit plain. The clams didn't taste fresh. We also ordered the chicken parmigiana and that was pretty good. The chicken was moist and crispy. The garlic bread was delicious. Really enjoyed that. We ordered the tiramisu for dessert. It's one of my favorite desserts but theirs was pretty plain. And I didn't like all those shaved almonds on top. Overkill and that's all I was tasting over a plain tiramisu.

My husband's family's been living in Rancho Bernado since the 80s and finally tried out this restaurant that has been there as long. It did not disappoint! I'm just gonna talk on behalf of my husband and my mother-in-law and my son dishes. My husband got the lasagna and he said it's the best lasagna he has had (outside of Italy)! My mother-in-law got the eggplant Parmesan and she said it was fantastic! My son got the cheese pizza and he loved it! My husband tried the pizza and said it was so good. The service was excellent. waitress is one of the owners or is part of the family business. Very cute little restaurant not a lot of seating but very cute and quaint! :) So I was disappointed because there wasn't a gluten-free pasta available most Italian restaurants these days will have the option since there's a lot of people that can't have gluten so I was kind of disappointed about that. The only thing that I can get on the menu was the salad with some grilled chicken and it was OK I wouldn't say anything special at all. But my family did enjoy their meals so this review is mostly, based on their experience and not my personal own, so I personally probably won't go back there because there's nothing really special for me to eat there because I am gluten-free and I also don't eat meat but a lot of other Italian restaurants I can always find some thing like gluten-free pizza or I can find gluten-free pasta to eat

I ordered chicken parm to go for $24. It took about 25 minutes and was ready when I arrived. The chicken appeared to be filleted. It lacked flavor and was disappointingly thin for the price. There was hardly a full-sized serving of pasta, and the sauce lacked flavor. The garlic bread was about 3 x 2 inches per piece. Meh . I was excited to try this place since I live in the neighborhood but for the price, it was very disappointing. I won't be back:-(.

The size of the restaurant really shows just how much love they prepare the food with. The quality of the food prepared is excellent. The best seller on the menu is the Antipasto salad if you look at the menu. The salad is a best seller for a reason, it's excellent. When I visited most people ordered the salad along with pasta entrees, chicken entrees and other Italian dishes. My group shared the Antipasto, Penne Pasta with meat sauce, Chicken Parmesan, Meat ravioli and Shrimp Fra Diavolo. All of the dishes are excellent in taste, freshness and flavor. I found the prices to be excellent for the portion size. The service was excellent and the dining room was small, and welcoming.

Is there a private room for 15-20 people?

It doesn't appear that there is. It's a small place with the single dining area. Buon appetito!

Does Mam Cella's offer gluten-free pasta, bread or pizza?

From what I see and have read ...not an option.

Does Mama Cella's take reservations? I have a party of 12.

Not sure but they only have one space that would accommodate that many people.

The restaurant we…read moreoriginally wanted to go to had a long wait, so we decided to stroll around and see what else was nearby. We came across Nonna's, and since I had always wanted to try it, we decided to give it a chance. The hostess was very sweet and seated us quickly, which was a great start. We ordered the calamari and two pasta dishes--one with truffle mushroom sauce and the other with braised pork. The calamari was okay, but it mostly tasted like breading and didn't have much flavor beyond that. The truffle mushroom pasta had a good sauce, but the pasta itself was very bland. Honestly, the pasta tasted like something you could buy at a grocery store and heat up at home. My boyfriend's pasta was okay as well, but neither of us felt like the dishes had much flavor, and the portions were on the smaller side. Unfortunately, the service was probably the biggest disappointment of the night. Our waiter came over, dropped off the water, and shortly after came back to take our order. The restaurant wasn't particularly busy, so we were surprised by how unfriendly and rushed he seemed. There was no smile, no attempt at conversation, or even a general sense of warmth. What really stood out to me, though, was watching him interact with another couple who were seated outside on the patio. He was completely different with them--smiling, laughing, chatting, and being very personable. At one point, my boyfriend politely asked if he could order a whiskey sour. When the waiter brought the drink, he literally slammed it down on our table, which honestly caught both of us off guard. I then watched him bring the other couple two glasses of wine, gently place them on their table, and do so with a smile. After that, the only other time he came back to our table was to rush us to take our plates. I completely understand that everyone has bad days, and I'm not someone who expects over-the-top service but I have worked in the food industry myself for many years so I do expect at least basic friendliness and hospitality--especially when you can clearly see that the same server is capable of providing it to other guests. For reference, our waiter was bald and wore glasses. He never told us his name. Overall, I'm glad I finally got to try Nonna's, but unfortunately, neither the food nor the service left us wanting to come back. There are so many other restaurants with better food, portions, and hospitality that I would personally choose somewhere else for our next special occasion.

The whole hostess staff had great smiles on their faces and they were very welcoming. After about two minutes of sitting down, our server came to ask us if we needed time to look over the menu. We said yes but that we wanted a Foccacia Bread table starter. She smiled and immediately went to put the order in. A few few minutes later she came back and we ordered our drinks for dinner: Raspberry Italian Soda, Orange Crush with Fresh Cream on top, and a non-alcoholic spritz. After we got our drinks and sip on them, it took us a bit of time to decide what we wanted. We all know that the burger here is fantastic! However, this evening, we decided to try new things. We ordered: Pappardelle Bolognese with Added Meatballs, Pappardelle Bolognese as it is normally prepared, and a Caesar salad with shrimp added. Our food was out within about 10 to 15 minutes and everything was prepared perfectly. I have to say that we really enjoyed dining in this location and we may need to come back here more instead of traveling to the Del Mar location sometimes. Our server was super customer service oriented and we appreciated her. She went above and beyond to get the orange crush drink to be unique like an Italian soda for my daughter. Only one of my son's friends ordered a burger the DAVANTI BURGER and he said it was really a good one, the burger meat patty was not dry and was very tasty. I love BRANZINO , and I always get them when I see them on a restaurant Menu, but omg this BRANZINO AL SALMORIGLIO was sooooo Salty !!! I believe that this was just probably one of those Kitchen errors for the day and someone double salted it, but without too much salt this would probably be a very good one. I don't usually order Grilled or Fried Artichoke 'coz I have bad experiences with them, always end up with a hard or chewy one, but here their FRIED ROMAN ARTICHOKES was so soft and well seasoned. For dessert we had ICE CREAM pistachio, salted caramel ,cappucino , lemon , raspberry , and it was okay. The service was great here. Other than our server, a bunch of different servers kept coming to check on us too or helped our server to pick up our done dishes. The food here was Hit or Miss, but we're definitely coming back to try for more to discover what other good foods they have here.
