Located inside Rivera Food Service (supermarket). The girls gave this 5-Stars but 4-Stars for me personally. We arrived at 11am when they opened so there was no lines. There were customers ordering to-go. Staff was very friendly, polite and accomodating. The inside seemed clean and organized. Food came out relatively fast. These dishes are meant to share -large portion- too much for one person, even two so order accordingly. Green Beans - fried with Chinese sausage pieces and they were delicious - crunchy and soft. The only thing I actually like there today. Walnut Shrimps - were surprisingly good. Easy to eat if you're not allergic to shrimps. "Juicy" Dumplings were not juicy at all. Pork fillings tasted ok but a little dried and not as flavorful as I prefer. The rest of the dumpling dishes had similar tastes. Fried rices were edible - I would add some oyster sauces and soy sauces on it during frying process to add flavors but each place has its own style and ingredients. It tasted almost plain. Fried Pork - that was everyone's favorite. Get your 10 fingers ready because forks/chopticks can't do the job! : ) Cornish Hen - I don't recommend because it just tasted dry. I'd rather eat fried chicken at Furai or Korean bbq Chicken. All foods were prepared in vegetable oil so if you're sensitive to oil - you can ask to make sure. Plenty of parking outside. read more

Sadly this new location did not meet expectations of the amazing dishes we've had in the past. Hopefully this is just growing pains but at this rate there needs to be tons to positive reviews for us to return. We got -spicy wontons 2.0 stars -a wonton soup 3.5 stars -and something else unmemorable. The worst dish was the spicy wontons. It wasn't spicy nor did they resemble wontons. The shell on the wonton broke apart and was not chewy. The meat inside was nothing to write about either. The better dish was the wonton soup because for having sat in the hot soup, the wonton shell maintained it's integrity and chewiness. If it wasn't for this dish, the overall rating would've been lower. The service was pretty quick and normal with no memorable staffs. They did have a lot of people about making sure dishes were served but that was pretty much it. Again, would not return unless there are many many positive reviews contradicting mine. read more

My bf and I both have debated back and forth on coming to try this place for awhile now and decided to do it. We walked in, were greeted and seated right away. It's located inside of an Asian market. The menu had a lot of options but we decided to go with a little of everything. Potstickers- 8/10 came quick and was nice and crunchy. The cilantro was a nice interesting touch Garlic green beans- 8.5/10 perfect crunch, probably the best thing we tried here! A little salty for my liking but I'd say this was the better plate overall. Beef chow mein- 7/10 it was ok. Nothing crazy or bad Shu mai- (I did not have any of these but my bf enjoyed them) 9/10 his rating. He says they were huge and the flavor was evenly distributed all around. Har gow- 8/10 these were also huge and tasted great! I found them looking crazy with how big they were XLB- 3/10 I honestly was quite disappointed with this one. I mainly came looking forward to this dish but it wasn't anything great. I only ate one and we realized it had a lot of black pepper which isn't exactly my personal favorite. Everything was a little on the salty side for me but I would say still go in and give it a chance. I will say though, 3 servers tried to take one of our plates that were clearly not finished and that was a little agitating as they would just walk up and reach in while we are talking and then say "oh my bad" after realizing we weren't done. Found this little gem tucked in a cute little food court like, next to the fabulous Rivera Food Service that sells international wholesale snacks. Of course eating dim sum for one isn't ideal since you can't really order a lot, so I ordered to go and opted for the sticky rice on lotus leaf, sesame balls, and porridge w/ preserved black eggs, P.S. they sold out of the fried "football", but everything was delicious! I have been going to Mama Lu's almost my whole life and they finally opened a location in Orange County! This location is super convenient for me and I've been quite a few times now. My favorite items are the Juicy Pork Dumplings, Singapore Style Noodles, Beef Rolls and Chive Pockets although I've tried so many other things on their menu too. Service is super solid and they are pretty attentive to any concerns you have. This location shares a building with a supermarket so there is plenty of parking and I've never had issues with too long of a wait. Mama Lu's is something that I crave at least once a month so definitely will be back again! read more

Decided to try the new Tustin location on Saturday night mainly because it's closer. Restaurant itself was clean and neat but it was interesting because the windows on the side look into the restaurant wholesaler next door. We got to watch people buying pomelos and snack while we waited for our food. The food was solid overall. Taiwanese comfort food hit the spot. The soup dumplings and the wontons are flavorful. Better than Din tai fun in terms of the meat flavor but spicy wonton sauce is better at DTF. The beef roll and fried rice were also great. Vegetables were solid. Only dish I didn't really like was the pan fried buns (needed more meat given how large the wrapping was). However, it is definitely a return when I need my dumpling fix. read more

No one was at the door so I was a little confused on where to go or who to speak to. Quick service once I got the attention of a worker. Seemed lively but not too busy or loud. I was a little worried when I saw the ratings for this location of Mama Lu's but took a chance anyway. I'm glad I did! Mama Lu's is next to Riviera Food, a supermarket. The dining room is pretty large. We arrived during lunchtime during the week and there was no wait, with plenty of available tables. Mama Lu's is famous for their dumplings. The juicy pork dumplings lived up to their name, though the juices weren't as flavorful as I had hoped. I enjoyed their fried pork buns, with the fluffy outsides and crispy top and bottom. The Shanghai chow mein was fairly standard. Surprisingly, my favorite dish was the fish fillet with black bean sauce. There was a lot of fish, lightly coated in sauce. It was the best rendition I've had in a long time. Service was efficient! I wish Mama Lu's was closer so I could make it one of my regular spots. Plenty of parking in the lot. read more

My first time at a Mama Lu's! This place is hidden inside a supermarket, but the restaurant is well decorated inside. It was interesting though that the supermarket is separated by the restaurant by a glass window. My overall experience was very satisfactory. We were seated right away and ordered a few dishes. The waitress was very quick to get the order in and bring out our food. Overall the service was decent throughout the meal. The food was very authentic and did not disappoint. I wouldn't say it's the most delicious Chinese food, but that I was pleasantly surprised by the quality. The pork dumplings were a nice texture, soft skin and hot soup inside. I liked the spicy shrimp and pork wontons a lot too! The chow mein was decent but definitely nothing too special. read more

My mother-in-law ate at Mama Lu recently and she recommended us to go there and check it out.... my better half does not typically settle for just a couple of dishes so she ordered pork dumplings, pork chops, pancakes, beef steak, noodles and pea shoots. Good thing we love leftovers! Food was quite good, but the overall experience was quite overwhelming to me - this place is LOUD and BUSY. Our server Jessica absolutely worked her tail off and tried super hard to keep everybody happy.... I'm concerned that Mama Lu's will experience crazy turnover as a lot of the staff members will simply burn out. But OK, that's my experience.... if you'd want to have a bit more of a relaxed dining experience, go on a weekday when possible and avoid the weekend. read more

I've been to the other locations of Mama Lu's in 626 area and was excited to try the one in Tustin. It's oddly located next to/inside a supermarket and can be easily missed while driving by. I'm glad to report that I think this spot tastes better and the service absolutely great. We ordered the Juicy Pork and Crab Dumplings, Fried Pork Buns, House Special Fried Noodle, Hot and Sour Soup, and Stir Fried String Beans. The soup dumplings were good - juicy and flavorful, although some the bottom stuck to the container and ended up ripping leaving behind all the soup. The buns were perfectly cooked and crispy on the bottom which allowed for a nice bite. The house special fried noodles was full of seafood and chicken and vegetables and the gravy sauce was excellent and coated each noodle. The hot and sour soup was tangy with a hint of spiciness. I don't really prefer hot and sour soup but this was cooked very well. The stir fried green beans were crispy on the outside but tender on the inside. It was well made and definitely one of the top dishes. Overall the service was excellent. The staff was very attentive and the food came out quick. Would definitely recommend trying this place, especially if you've written off the other mama Lu's locations. read more

Well you gotta give credit where credit is due. I came here for soft opening last year and the dining experience and service was terrible. It seems that this location was worked out all of the kinks and the service was great this time around. Food was good as well, although the beef roll was a bit dry. I happen to be strollin' through the produce section and noticed that there was a restaurant through a wall of windows so I pretended to look at the products nearby those windows to see what was going on and what the customers were eating....that was it. That was it guys, I sped walk towards the entrance, grabbed a menu and salivated as I was viewing the entrees they provided. WE GOTTA EAT HERE! FOOD & SERVICE SO! I honestly wanted to try one of everything BUT I must restrain myself. There's always another time to visit! But it was really difficult to choose...why mama gotta be like that! But once we've come to a final conclusion of deciding to treat our taste buds, my girlfriend and I chose the following: -Fish Fillet with Black Bean Sauce: 5/5 Saturated with flavor! Must have! -Salt & Pepper Tofu: 4/5 Great texture and amount of seasoning! -Beef Wrap: 4/5 Probably one of the better Beef Wraps I've had! Meat was nice juicy while staying in tact with the wrap! There's plenty of space for the restaurant and each table is pretty spaced apart which is nice so others don't have to hear me commenting on how amazing each bite was LOL. OVERALL We were here during the afternoon and the parking seemed pretty fair. No fighting or waiting for someone to leave to grab a spot so that's a major plus if you're one that wants to insta-park once you arrive at your destination! And once you're done, you can walk around the grocery store next door and see if anything catches your interests! Finally a more legit dumpling house around the area! Decided to grab dinner here on a Sunday night and the wait wasn't too bad, I joined the waitlist on Yelp before going to the restaurant. However, the waitlist was not accurate because it said I was 30th in line and when I arrived to the restaurant there was no one waiting and they seated us almost immediately. There was only 3 of us so we only ordered our go-to for Mama Lu's - juicy pork dumplings and orange chicken. The orange chicken wasn't as crispy and portion was not as humongous as the one in Monterey Park, but the flavor was there. We also ordered 2 bowls of rice to pair with the chicken which was $1.50 per serving. Juicy pork dumpling was still tasty as ever! It did take some time to flag down someone to take our order and then get boxes to go and the check. Overall would return again and definitely take advantage of the Yelp waitlist. The food at Mama Lu's is delicious! My parents, husband, and I came here last weekend for dinner and it was so yummy. We ordered the juicy pork dumplings, the chicken pot stickers, the siu mai, the honey garlic pork chops, and maybe the chicken chow mein (but I can't quite remember!) All the food was delicious and the pork chops were excellent. The dumplings were also soooo good! Definitely enjoyed the food and would absolutely order it again. The reason for four stars instead of five is because the service wasn't ideal. I called ahead of time to ensure we could bring our own wine and was told we could, to then be told we could not when we arrived. We were also seated near the bussing area (which was quite noisy and unattractive) so we asked to move to a different table and were told "there is another party with a reservation and that is going to be the same type of table" - we said that no, that is a quieter area and we would like to move, and that we, too, had a reservation. Our dishes also came out at weird times and we didn't receive one of our dishes so asked for them to check on it - it was clearly forgotten about but did end up finally coming out. Overall, the service wasn't great and the restaurant itself is kind of cafeteria-esque so I likely wouldn't eat at the restaurant itself again, but I'd definitely order takeout! Dumpling house located inside the Asian Food Warehouse. Did not expect to see this huge restaurant in there but it is nice! Stopped by for lunch and we had no issues being seated quickly. iPad wait list by the entrance. Pretty large dining area with seating ranging from booths to 4 tops to community tables. The menu reminded me of a condensed version of all our chinese restaurant favorites. Here's what we tried on our visit: white rice to share, the beef roll (first time having it with fresh cucumbers inside & it makes it a perfect bite), the green onion pancake (good, a little on the thinner side), the pork chop with spicy salt (so so good! my favorite!), & finally the XLB pork soup dumplings - this one, I don't recommend. It came to us all stuck together & when pulled apart, it ripped and the soup was no where to be found. The tips of the dumpling were also very thick and tough to eat. Took off a star since the name itself says dumpling house but in reality, the rest of their food actually tasted way better than their dumplings. Good service. Exactly what I was looking for. Somewhere between authentic and Americanized Chinese food. The scallion pancake had the best texture and was delicious. Not too oily. The honey walnut shrimp was delicious. The shrimp were obviously super fresh and even though we ordered take out it was still crispy when we got it. The best was the moo shu pork. The serving was huge and came with four "pancakes". I wish there were more because there was so much delicious filling. The packaging for take out made it so each pancake was separated by some parchment and came out perfect. I will definitely be ordering from here again. read more

Visiting from L.A., I have been to all Mama Lu locations and can vouchsafe for this new Tustin branch's yummy goodness, located inside the old Von's supermarket. My benchmark Mama Lu dishes -- Fried pork chop is the best (MUST GET), hot and sour soup is also best (they don't skimp on ingredients), new dim sum items (har gow, siu mai, potstickers) are also super good. To be fair, other items are just so-so at all the Mama Lu's including this one -- scallion pancake, XLB soup dumplings. Waitstaff very helpful and courteous. They walk around wearing an iPad to take your order. They also accept phone reservation. read more

I don't know if it's a different chef on the weekdays or if the food quality has just dramatically gone downhill in the past few months of opening. What a huge disappointment and sadly, I won't be returning. We ordered the Shanghai chicken chow Mein and beef wrap to go. The beef wrap that I normally enjoyed was extremely dry and lacking sauce. The wrap itself was chewy, under cooked, greasy, and just bland. If I can give 0 starts, it would be for the chow mein. This is HANDS DOWN the absolute worst dish that I've ever received from any restaurant and I seriously feel scammed out of $15 . The cabbage was undercooked and still raw. The meat (what little pieces were available) was super dry and overcooked. The noodle was dry and bland as well (my son said he preferred Panda Express). Tons of variety, and I loved that the food wasn't overly salty. We tried the juicy pork dumplings ($11.95 for 10), fried pork buns ($11.95 for 6), Shanghai rice cake ($13.95), garlic pea shoots ($16.95), and the braised seafood over fried tofu ($16.95). The juicy pork dumplings (XLB) were pretty solid, but didn't have much juice inside. The fried pork buns were piping hot, but the bun was thicker and not as crispy as I would like. The Shanghai rice cake was delicious! Had a great flavorful and not too salty. The garlic pea shoots were yummy and tender. The braised seafood over fried tofu was delicious, but didn't have enough fish. Overall, we enjoyed the meal. Quite a good price for the quality and quantity! read more
