Bun rieu was $13, tasty broth more of pork stock than pure crab, a chunk of minced crab meat, slices of fish cake, 2 cubes of blood curls, fried tofu, served with plenty of fresh herbs, hot pepper sauce, lime slice. The Cha Ca Chien which is fried fish cake, was absolutely flavorful & very light & tasted amazing in the Bun Rieu. Bun Rieu is a light & flavorful tomato pork broth that is generally accompanied by crab paste/mixture/meatballs, fried tofu, & vermicelli noodles, along with choices of herbs & vegetables. Truly one of my favorite dishes that warms the heart & Mama's Cha Ca definitely hits a home run for it. Most notably I'm super impressed by the Cha Ca, & how delicious it was. Alright, so my sister told me about this place and said it's really good. I don't live in the area so I wanted to try it out. I saw one review that said, she found fish scales in her raw cha ca that she had bought but I didn't pay much attention to it. I did read her review and the comment with the owners family member responding to it. My two cents as a person who fishes, I already knew that, even when cleaning fish (no matter how much there is) you spray water to wash off all the fish scale off the fish or as much as you can see. Apparently they don't do that here. They prefer quantity over quality. I ordered a cha ca sandwich to try this place out and even when eating the sandwich, I felt the texture of fish scales. I thought it was just in my head and pretended it was maybe the texture of the bread or pickled veggies but then I found a piece of scale in my mouth. The sandwich was tasty though and they always say dirty places do have good food lol. But probably, I won't be coming back! As for their service, they suck here. I happened to be in the little Saigon area and I needed to make a quick pitstop for lunch. Seeing the five star review of Mama's Cha Ca, I decided to give it a shot. I bought one bún, one bánh mì and at the recommendation of one of the workers, I got the kumquat tea instead of the passion fruit. I had a few places to stop by in the area, but I finally got to take a moment and take a bite of the bánh mì. Wow! The bread was fresh, flaky, and chewy. Whatever their secret sauce is was flavorful and unique and the fish cake was delightful. I am looking forward to trying the bún. The restaurant is next to a café, and there is no indoor seating. You can expect to pick up your food and go. Otherwise, the place was well-kept and clean and the workers were very nice. I will definitely be back to Mama's Cha Ca. read more

I appreciate the fact that they offer dishes that highlight their cha ca cuz it can get kinda boring just eating with plain rice at home. I love that veggies in the bm were cut so thinly cuz I'm not a veggie person so it was way easier to chew thru along with all the other goodies in the bm. Idk what they marinade their do chua (pickled daikon/carrots) with, but it tastes different (better imo) than ur typical do chua at any other viet places...oh and that homemade sauce in the bm cha ca though *chef's kiss*.
