Unnecessary confrontation over a 5-minute early pickup I'm a regular Too Good To Go customer and have picked up bags from Maman before without issue. This visit was a frustrating exception. The app activated the swipe button shortly after 5PM -- which Maman and several other stores have recently started allowing as an early pickup signal. I went to the store accordingly. The young male Hispanic employee at the register refused to hand over my bag, insisting the pickup window didn't start until 5:15. All the bags were already packed and ready. There were no other customers in line. I tried to explain how the app works and that early pickup had been allowed here before, but he repeatedly cut me off. At one point I said "if you want to play by the book, so be it" -- meaning it as a neutral acknowledgment. He took offense, raised his voice, and kept repeating "I don't play, you play" in an increasingly hostile tone. I asked if he understood the expression. He just kept repeating "I don't play." When I asked to speak with a manager, he said there wasn't one. When I asked what a customer is supposed to do when there's a problem with an employee, he told me to come back tomorrow and talk to him. This was completely avoidable. The bags were ready. It was a 5-10 minute window, allowed by the app. The confrontation served no purpose. What struck me afterward was how easily the entire interaction could have gone differently with just a slightly calmer and more customer-oriented response. Something as simple as this would have resolved it: "You're a few minutes early, but since the bags are already ready and there's no one in line, I'll go ahead and give you your bag. Just for future reference, we try to keep pickup at 5:15." My concern was ultimately less about the exact pickup time and more about the unnecessarily adversarial tone; particularly being repeatedly interrupted while trying to explain, the employee raising his voice, and being told to "come back tomorrow and talk to him" when I asked how a customer is supposed to address a problem if no manager is present. The store manager/owner must address this. read more

Absolutely delicious food, and I love that they offer vegan options too. The staff were friendly and quick to answer any questions. The drinks were delightful, and the roasted potatoes were incredibly tasty! The ambiance is so beautiful, it feels like you're in Paris, and the coffee cups are absolutely charming. read more

I think Maman is a great mini chain. It's a good spot for coffee, lunch or breakfast. This is a smallish space but it has quaint decor and friendly counter staff. The coffee is good and I like their pastries, cake slices and cookies. They have a 'no laptop' policy which I think is great, it's good to see people interacting and chatting with each other and the tables torn over faster which means if you've purchased something you can actually sit down and enjoy it. Great food, coffee, and pastries! The space is very pretty but it's super cramped. Unfortunately, the wait times can also get pretty long which makes this a less than ideal stop for those who don't like crowds or are in a hurry. It's difficult to find space in new york but I wish they had less seating and organized it better. I also wish they had a better system for lining up. Oftentimes the crowd for grab and go gets mixed up with the crowd waiting for a table. Another minus for me is I've been to multiple locations and I dont think the bathrooms are well-kept. They also only have one stall that all the customers share which gets backed up when you're serving coffee... The sit down food is pretty good and the shakshuka options are cool. This Maman brought us runny egg salad where yellow goo splashed on us and on the table, and then ran over the sides of the wooden board, but she didn't bat an eyelid. No wifi and a no laptop policy at a cafe is INSANE I'm sorry. They claim it's to prevent squatters but I saw plenty of people "squatting" with books instead lol. Tables were absolutely filthy, the guy working had no idea how to scan the app, and my hibiscus tea was average at best. Upon inquiring about an estimated time of arrival, as the application displayed limited time and the order value was low, I encountered an unprofessional response, including mockery from the staff and the manager. The manager even attempted to record me when I voiced my concerns regarding their unprofessional conduct and dismissive attitude towards my work. I believe all employees and the manager on duty at 9 a.m. should be held accountable for their actions by the owner. They contacted law enforcement in an attempt to intimidate me as an African American individual; however, once I presented my perspective, the officers departed. Our server was the nicest man! I got the lavender latte and my husband had hot cocoa. Also I got the herb feta with side of toast/butter and my husband got the artichoke quiche. Drinks were amazing. The quiche was delicious. However, the feta was just crumbled with herbs. Why not have whipped feta so it is easier to spread. Too, the butter was still almost frozen so it wouldn't spread. Small disappointment but could do better. Having to fight to spread butter and then have crumble feta that is also not easy to spread, makes for to much effort to enjoy. read more

Came a bit after 4 pm, post brunch rush, and there was ample seating. I ordered their Small 12 oz Matcha Latte ($5.50) and unfortunately found it to be a bit too bitter, likely due to too much matcha powder in the drink. I also ordered their Scallion Cheddar Scone ($5) and it was way too sweet for my liking, and was also taken aback at the price I paid for the quality of the pastry! The interior seems small but has more tables than expected, however, during busy times of the day it can be hard to find a table. As soon as you walk in you are typically greeted with a line blocking access to the menu and display items so it can be a little hard to figure out what you're ordering before getting to the front of the line. First time here. I asked the cashier for the top sellers. I was recommended to try lavender latte and nutty chocolate cookie. I've heard about the cookie so I had a high expectation. Maybe because of that, I was kinda disappointed when I took the bite. It was just a regular chocolate cookie with nuts. Nothing so special. Lavender latte is also okay. Kinda too milky to me. Came in around 10 AM on a Saturday and there was no wait for a table for 2. We ordered the lavender lattes. The lattes were served in a beautiful set and honestly was equivalent to a med-large-sized latte. We got the carol's tomato basil soup with grilled cheese sandwich which was excellent. We also got the Meredith turkey sandwich which I loved. The fig spread is too good! My only complaint would have to be the side of potatoes - they were a bit bland. The ambiance is also really cute. We stopped by here for lunch on a cold morning! Their set up is pretty confusing. There's only one line however you have to go straight up to the cashier to dine-in. If you choose to dine-in, you have be seated by a host inside and then order from the staff. You cannot wait in the line and order for dine-in at the cashier. Would recommend better signage to clarify this. We chose to sit outdoors which did not have heat lamps and was in the shade. It was super cold but worth it for the food, and will be perfect when it's warmer out. The pastry basket is delicious. It comes with one plain and one chocolate croissant and one special "surprise" pastry. It was all so flaky and buttery. We also got the breakfast platter which was very filling and healthy. We figured out the best hack for this dish: make the avocado into avocado toast on the bread, spread a bit of the bacon jam on it, and top with the fried egg. SOOO good. I've become mildly obsessed with Maman. Their newest location is in the Village, and it's got a really cute and cozy vibe to it. I tried their limited edition white chocolate raspberry rose cookie, which was wonderful. It was so good I had the whole thing before I got home, in 30 degree weather. It tasted like a raspberry flavored macaron. I also got their pistachio loaf cake, which is now my favorite. read more

I was visiting NYC for the weekend and heard so much about Maman's pastries and coffee so I knew I had to give it a try. They had a variety of specials available and I chose the blueberry latte. The drink tasted great but pastries left something to be desired. We picked up the nutty chocolate chip cookie and strawberry almond croissant. The croissant was not flakey or crispy but tough and chewy. It has a good flavor but the texture was not pleasant to me. It was around 4-5PM at this time, so maybe it was because the pastries were left out but I would honestly don't think these should've been sold at all. It was disappointing that the barista didn't mix in the honey because once it's cold it can't mix properly like a normal syrup.
