There are sweet and savory options to dine on, croque maman ( comte cheese!)chicken sandwich, salads, soups and their beverages are unique, honey lavender latte, fleur de sel caramel latte, tahini honeycomb latte and so many interesting variations. I had a brief meeting there today and ordered the chai latte. The barista gives you a number that you take with you, place on the table and beverage is served to you. The medium farmhouse table we wanted to sit at had dirty dishes on it. We told the barista we wanted to sit there and she called a colleague to clear it, which he did do. However, he did not clean the table. We ignored this and drank our beverages. I ordered a hot chai latte but received a lukewarm version. I didn't want to complain due to the meeting, and just sipped it. Maman uses Dona chai concentrate made in Brooklyn.The taste was okay not terrific, a little disappointing. The ambience is soothing with rustic brick walls, farmhouse tables and floral arrangements adorn the walls. This location can excel just needs to pay attention to the small details. The inside or this place is very cute and the food and coffee were fine but the service needs improvement. I allotted myself about 40 mins for breakfast on a Monday morning and ordered a piece of quiche and black coffee. At any other café I've ever ordered quiche from, it's already been made and they take about 5 minutes or so to warm it up and bring it out. Maybe it's my mistake for not asking how long it would take. There was a regular flow of customers coming in & out, but only about 5 other people sitting down inside. After nearly 20 minutes, I was still waiting for my food so I went up to the woman who took my order to ask and she just said they didn't forget about me. Another 10 minutes passed and I went back up to ask for the slice of quiche to go. I also asked for a to-go cup to dump my now lukewarm coffee into and was a little surprised she didn't offer to top it off considering it was just black drip coffee. Finally after another 5 minutes, they called my name and I grabbed my bag...walked back to the hotel only to see there was no fork included...maybe I missed them but I know when I sat down with my original mug of coffee, I only saw silverware and no plastic. The vibe is cute. The space isn't huge so it's better for groups of 2-4. Note that it's not really a place to work as they don't have WiFi and have a no laptop policy. They have both indoor and outdoor seating. I've never been to maman before so maybe other locations are better but I got a latte to enjoy there. It came in a cute cup which I liked. Decent neighborhood vibey spot. Great selection and a cute interior. I recommend the Americano as it is fast and a great quality. I also recommend going earlier to nab a seat if you're meeting a friend as it gets pretty busy even in a weekday when you think everyone is at work. Service is ok, don't expect lots of smiles here. I like this place and have been here twice in the last couple of weeks. It's fantastic for a mid afternoon coffee or a bite to eat. The place honestly has been packed anytime I've gone but people are willing to share tables - so you end up finding something or the other. I've been coming to Maman for breakfast/lunch for a few months now & have typically had good experiences. The shop can be super crowded sometimes, especially on the weekend, but the staff does a pretty good job of managing it. Most recently I tried the Caitlin's Breakfast Wrap which I loved since it comes on a gluten free wrap. The candied bacon & side of chipotle aioli were the highlights of the dish for me! My only other flag is that the seating area is located in the front of the shop so there is a lot of breeze coming in & out while you're dining which is rough during the cooler seasons! read more

The shop was super busy and the shop setup is terrible- the crowdedness surrounding people trying to sit and enjoy their snacks while people queue in with the cold blowing in is not ideal. maman is so cute only for the food to always be underwhelming for me, and it's just so disappointing because, again, the whole vibe of this cafe chain is so warm and inviting. I usually only get the pastries, all of which are usually just okay (except for that lime cilantro cookie they have sometimes... I will always stand by her). Today I got the papa's breakfast bowl as well as a hot tahini honeycomb latte. The breakfast bowl is potato forward. That's what you need to know here-- it's potatoes with some bits of kale and some bacon and a lot of aioli. It's literally a plate of starch and was so heavy in my mouth and stomach that it got hard to eat after the third bite. If something is being marketed as a breakfast bowl, I'd really expect it to be more properly ratio-d so that it feels like a healthy and hearty breakfast rather than a plate of home fries. I find maman's coffee to be bitter, and the honeycomb tahini flavor really did not cut through that bitterness. I liked the nuttiness from the tahini, but I couldn't finish the latte. read more

This place is a nightmare, which is sad bc I love the other ones I've been to! -ordered a hot mocha, $8(!?). Even for NYC this is crazy, and really not good. It came out lukewarm and I asked for it to be more hot. The guy just looked at me and said no and explained there's no way to do that. We waited 20 minutes to be acknowledged by our waiter, never got water, had to ask for sugar and spoons for coffees but only got packets of sugar dropped on our table. That kouign-amann is a sin and they should be embarrassed to sell it. To say Starbucks has better is not hyperbole. Their pastries are far superior! My maman sandwich wasn't bad but it wasn't good either. My latte was good and the place is pretty but how they stay in business and how Martha Stewart lends her name to this is beyond me. I was actually quite surprised by our experience here. Popped in on the way to a movie for a breakfast sandwich. They have a lot of dessert-type options and like 5 quiche options, all of which were on display. I probably would have gotten one of the quiches, but in the end they looked fairly old and were fairly caloric-the latter I don't think is necessary information for such an establishment to display (others may disagree). What bothered me most, though, is that we ordered a simple croissant and then probably waited 5 minutes for it to be heated up in the kitchen. I would have thought it would be taken from the display case and put into the microwave behind the counter, which wasn't the case, enforcing my belief that these were older. Fine, but then when we actually ate the "warmed up" croissant, it was just super cold in the center. So I truly don't understand what they ended up doing to this mysteriously appearing pastry. I love the way they promote their cool gifts, hats, baby clothes, as well as their homemade granola. Today at Maman's Columbus Ave location I took a bite of my salmon tartine and had to pull a 2-inch piece of plastic packaging out of my mouth. It was hard and felt like a chewy twig. I've been eating out in NYC since 1986 but this was a first. We notified a staffer who, to her credit, immediately offered to replace or refund the tartin and who whisked away my napkin-wrapped souvenir (but didn't replace my napkin). We shrugged it off as weird, even negligent, but not malicious. Then we wondered where our turkey and goat cheese croissant was, as we'd ordered it at the same time as the now half-eaten tartine. When I got up to ask the counter-person, he said, "I'm sure it'll be right out." I noted that we'd ordered it 10 minutes earlier, it's shown in the display case as a ready-to-go, presumably microwavable croissant so shouldn't take this much time to warm, and asked him to check with the kitchen. He came back apologizing that the order had indeed been overlooked but would be out in 5 minutes. It arrived luke-warm to the touch and its cheese and turkey icy cold in the center. When we first sat down we had to ask for our table to be wiped down, then had to get up to fetch our own silverware, napkins, and water bottle. The staff were both overworked and unhappy to respond to us, so we're taking the hint and not coming back. read more

I went with my partner on a busy Sunday for lunch. When we first got there, we weren't acknowledged so we figured we could sit down. The host came to us and told us we weren't allowed to sit there because there was a reservation. He then pointed to a table that was open and said you can sit at that one. Fair enough - we walked there and then a separate waitress asked us if we had been on the list. We had to ask after 15 mins sitting down if they could take our order even though we were right next to the host stand. I wish I could love this Maman location. Maybe I went too late during the afternoon (around 5pm) or maybe I noticed the "no laptops" sign (at a cafe, really?). I've been to many Maman's in NYC drinking tea and eating their nutty chocolate chip cookies or slices of snack cakes since I first stumbled upon their little cafe on the edge of Soho in 2016. Now Maman has expanded so quickly their cafes seem to have taken over the city. Did they always not allow laptops? Shrug, I didn't have my laptop with me, but I still got a little offended. The cafe ambiance at this location is very charming (maybe because it's laptop free?) and I still love their French countryside themed blue and white takeout cups, but their Vegan Cinnamon Spice Snickerdoodle cookie was a huge disappointment. I come from a long line of cookie connoisseurs and pre-covid I was pretty famous at work for bringing home baked White Chocolate Pumpkin Spice Snickerdoodles. Yes, snickerdoodles can have a fun first bite crispy edge, but the center and inside of the cookie should be chewy like a hug. This Maman's vegan snickerdoodle was simply a hard, tasteless cookie. I could've been eating a dog biscuit with sand on it. It made me sad. Especially since I broke my cookie fast (first cookie in months!) for this. After this I walked over to Levain for their Fall Chunk Chocolate Chip cookie! The only reason I'm still giving 4* is because the staff are very nice and it's wonderful having two Maman's on the UWS (this one is closer to Lincoln Center) where you can sit, relax and have a cup of tea. But I'm staying away from their vegan cookies and sticking to their regular nutty chocolate chip cookies next time! read more

However, my friend got a savory dish with potatoes, which was very yummy, so I evidently just ordered the wrong thing.
