I used to come here more often for coffee but recently been buying the their bread. They have a fabulous multigrain loaf for $5 (or $5.50). Recently tried their sourdough which they sell as whole or half loaf. My dad really enjoyed this! I appreciate that the breads are not huge. There was a line every morning we walked by, which is always a good sign. The service, though, could be better - they're definitely not the most patient. It seems like this might be more of a local spot where regulars already know what to order. I ordered a chocolate croissant, almond croissant, matcha latte, and café latte. When I asked if they offered flavored lattes, the cashier just looked at me and said, "We don't do that here." No suggestions, no follow-up - just silence. After about five seconds, he finally added, "You can sweeten your drink over there." Our drinks and pastries came out in about 10 minutes. What the cashier didn't mention was that the matcha wasn't sweetened either, so I had to fix it myself at the side bar. This is honestly the first place I've been where they don't sweeten coffee or matcha for you - maybe it's a French thing, which is fine, but a little kindness in the delivery would've gone a long way. The almond croissant was the star of the show - light, flaky, and full of flavor. I'd order that again in a heartbeat. The coffee and matcha were just okay, even after adding sugar, and the chocolate croissant was forgettable. Inside, it's a small café with limited seating and tiny tables. If you're in a morning rush, it's better to grab your order to go instead of waiting for a seat. Despite the attitude from one staff member, I'd still come back here just for the almond croissant - it's that good. read more

I came here with a friend and my husband on a brisk fall day. The line can look long, but moves quickly. Good turnover on chairs as well. I was initially skeptical because I don't love hotel cafes, but this is more of a café that happens to be adjacent to the hotel. I ordered a decaf flat white, a chocolate croissant, and a cinnamon roll. The flat white was decent, they forgot to make it decaf but was able to make a fresh one, which I appreciated later as I was trying to sleep. The chocolate croissant definitely stole the show, it was delicious! The chocolate was not too sweet, and the croissant flaky, buttery, and light. Previous reviews rave this is the best croissant they've had and I do agree it's a great one. Staff is super friendly and efficient. We stayed for about 20 minutes enjoying our snacks and ambiance, then left for the local Barnes and Nobles. read more

Sadly, it's not what it used to be. We used to visit at least once a week, as we live on the upper West side. Because of the lines in the long waits, we stopped going. I was walking by this afternoon and no crowds! Excellent. One of our favorites, the Croque Monsieur-- theirs was the BEST in the city--is no longer on the menu. When I asked the server behind the counter if they had it, she had no idea what I was talking about. I ordered a canelé, a pain ua chocolat and the vegetarian quiche. The quiche was delicious but the texture was awful. It had curdled when reheated, and the crust was soggy. The pain au chocolat was fine, but I've had better. And the canelé, was just dreadful. It was incredibly dense, stodgy, and inedible. I don't know if the quality has slipped because they're serving so many more people during the day, especially in the morning from the hotel above. Or if they just don't care. But it's just not worth it. So, so sad. read more

Nice French bakery. We stop by for an early morning breakfast, and the place was already packed! Excellent service, nice clean bright space. I had a croissant that was fine, but the outside was not very crisp and not so flaky. My latte was delicious. We also had a mini carrot cake with lemon ice frosting that was delicious, and a banana chocolate chip miniature, cupcake that was also very good. read more

One of my favorite bakeries in the city. The almond croissant is to die for! And honestly everything else I've tried here, like pain au chocolat and ham/cheese sandwich (the bread is A+++), has been really good too. The bakery itself is very cute and cozy and has a couple of tables. Their hot chocolate is also made from real semisweet chocolate so it's only slightly sweet which is perfect IMO. I've been here with my family many times and we've never been disappointed! My picky girls love the variety of french baked goods- our latest favorite was the gorgeous pumpkin filled brioche roll. I almost always get the smoked salmon sandwich- both savory and sweet are excellent here. Equally as nice is the staff- and it's not to be missed that many of them are native french transplants. I like the royale and several other of the layered pastries--they always tasted fresh and delicious when I visited. Stopped by on a Saturday afternoon, party of 3- while the desserts and coffees we got (2 Mille-Feuilles, 1 apricot tart) were quite good, the service felt a little brusque. As a west-coaster who has never been to France but took French class seriously for some reason, this place was awesome just for the reason that I got to use a language I stopped learning 12 years ago practically for the first time in my life. The folks behind the counter were so nice and pleasant to chat to in...French! On to the food. I loved it! I think these are the best macarons I've ever had - the pistachio blew me away. What a nice gluten free solution for my daughter-in-law: a dozen macaroons from this lovely little French shop on Broadway. I was dumb not to get a photo of the macaroons but they were packaged simply in this brown box. They were colorful and delicious. The lady at counter (Shelia) was really, friendly and pleasant. I stopped in for a mocha and croissant. My almond croissant was incredible! It was so flaky and a little crisp on the very edge at the bottom. They had many locally sourced bread options which they made a delicious tuna sandwich. I just stopped by to get a coffee, and wanted to walk around sipping it. I had really high expectations for this place, and the pastries all looked great. It looked like there was only one person working, so they were possibly a bit understaffed--otherwise, I'd have liked the tables/counters to be a bit cleaner. There were people working with their laptops out, and there was a decent amount of sitting, considering how small the location was. I didn't have to wait too long for my latte, and the barista/staff member was friendly, but my latte came out far too hot (was undrinkable for a while)! I would return to give them a second chance, especially since I didn't try the pastries, but it felt pretty abandoned for a weekend and I'm not sure when I'll next be in the area. For me, this looks like a decent place but not anything super amazing. Will update this review if I return! read more
