Maman's newest location and (I think) 13th store in NYC, had their soft opening today. Located near Lincoln Center and across the street from ABC studios, Maman is a great place to make a pit stop before seeing a concert or performance. Currently, they are open every day but close at 6pm. I wish they stayed open later but apparently the shop becomes an event space in the evening. Also, their kitchen closes at 4pm daily which means all of the savory items on the menu are no longer available at point. Like all other Maman locations, the décor here is beautiful, sort of rustic French provincial. The shop, from the inside and front, is very aesthetically pleasing. I've been to several other Maman locations and have found that the food offered, from the pastries to the salads and sandwiches are usually a match to the décor, both in presentation and taste. Their Chocolate Chunk cookie is well known and is on Oprah's Favorites list. So, you know I was excited to stop by. I hurried after work to grab something but unfortunately was a little too late. I got there about 45 minutes before closing and all of their pastries were already gone. Bummer. Only drinks were available for purchase at that point. I ended up just grabbing a honey lavender latte instead. Was the drink good? Yes, it was excellent. I loved the slight aroma of lavender with the smooth but strong latte flavor. It would have been hundred times better if I had one of their pastries to go with it though. Luckily, I work near this neighborhood and I'm already planning on coming by another day. Another thing I wanted to note is that they are donating 100% of the proceeds from today to Ukranian families via Welcome Baby. The money raised is used to fund baby packages and will be sent to the Ukraine and Poland. This kind of philanthropy is something that Maman has been doing since the beginning of the pandemic; they've been donating the proceeds from the first day of each new store from the past two years to charity. Trendy looking breakfast / lunch spot - their decor all has a blue theme with plants and a french vibe. The food was good but nothing great. My omelette in particular was something I could make at home a bit over cooked. The breakfast bowl was also okay but nothing I would return to order. Finally the chipotle chicken sandwich was really the star of the show - the sauce on there was delicious and their gluten free bread is quite good and does not calla apart! We had the breakfast menu - eggs with three ingredients and maman's sandwich. Also was going to have the Nutella brownie which looked delicious but ended up doing the chocolate chip cookie since it's one of Oprah's favorite things. Just as delicious as Levain's but not so filling / muffin sized. Delicious chocolate chips and macadamia nuts. I ordered: - Raspberry Rose White Chocolate Cookie ($4) - Iced Chai Latte ($5.5) Since I wasn't sure how long I'd be staying, I'd asked for the Iced Chai Latte in a to-go cup, but it came in a glass. The service was taking time, so I just drank as is. The drink itself was ok--too much cinnamon for my taste. Just purchased 2 pastries at this location. Was waiting for 12 minutes for them and nothing arrived. After asking if they forgot me, I received them frozen!!! When I came back to the store I was ignored as if I disturbing them (thank you Leo). When I asked to talk to the manager, I was told that she is on Lunch break.... Thereafter, she was found (lucky me). Again, this pathetic service friendly place was challenging my complaint by stating that it takes 10 minutes to warm the biscuits (to keep it fresh). When I explained to the manager (Ang) that I was waiting for 12 minutes and still got frozen biscuits, Ang was doing her calculations and realized that I was right!!!! Yeh, I was right. Only then she apologized. It looks like this bakery grew up so fast that service and quality of the products are not at their priority anymore. So many other bakeries around that will provide better service and products that I will recommend you to explore. Not sure who to blame when food items get "cheap" or when we have to do everything on our own as opposed to getting table service: owners or the system or economy. Please enlighten me! The ambiance is great - I love it. The food taste good: I ordered individual items which I like to do because almost every item has diary which I simply can't have. I got 1 egg ($3) avocado ($3) smoked salmon ($7) and toast with butter ($5) and a nondairy cold matcha latte ($7) + nondairy milk ($1) + tax and tip with My total being $28.14. But if pay $5 for toast, I expect 2 pieces NOT a thin piece cut in half where half of it has huge hole on it due to how it was baked. I told the food runner and he was nice enough to bring me another piece. Which brings me to the service - the girl on the counter was professional, and so were the "servers" but not sure when they the restaurant table service and when not. Basically everyone has to go to the counter to order, we get a number and our food is brought to us at our table - if we find one for this place tends to get busy. Then we have to grab our own forks and knives and napkins from a table by the entrance. If we want water, they placed liters glass water bottles on this table so we can grab it ourselves or if you want ketchup, it's the same. They also have a bin where customers can put their used dishes once they are done. And just in case you want to wipe your own table, they have a bucket with "sani water" and a wet rag in it to wipe down the table yourself. Luckily for me, I had a nice girl do it for me and later the male server with the red beard also picked up my used dishes. Again, not sure if I have to do it myself or what exactly servers are assigned to do at this particular place. But my issue is when it comes to tipping because if I'm going to do everything myself, like I thought I would at the beginning when I placed my order, then I kinda don't find a reason to tip 20-25% while the owners are the ones cheapening out at customers expense. I still tipped when I placed my order BUT the one that suffers are the servers when owners do this. ***30 minutes later after writing this review I notice servers do their job well. They leave their station nice and neat, but they just don't take orders at the table. Maybe it's an accounting issue?? Either way, I'd come again because it's good food and convenient. When you first walk into this café, there is no way you are not amazed by the decor. The place is also super cozy with good enough indoor seating to accommodate the turn around of customers, at least when I went, which was a weekday around 9 or 10am. The cafe also has a sign that discourages laptops. I guess so you don't hog up a seat for an entire day, but it also states it's a place that promotes conversations. When I walked into this cafe I was worried it was one of those modern, trendy coffee shops where just because you're getting served a sandwich on a cutting board instead of a plate they get to charge you 17 dollars for a sandwich that's the size of a baby arm. Unfortunately, Maman lives up to those expectations. My friend and I waited 25 minutes for our Mediterranean steak sandwiches to arrive, and when they did they were barely lukewarm. It tasted decent but not worth the price or the wait. The coffee tasted like wood and the decor was a faux naturalistic motif, meant to feel like an enchanted forest and instead looked like how Gwenyth Platrow would decorate a corporate office. And when that wasn't in your face you were accosted by pictures of children. Not appetizing. Places like this either need to drop the inflated prices or go out of business. I would sooner go to Panera Bread rather than come back here, and I'd rather get the flu than go to Panera. The guy behind the counter and the waitress was good though. read more

Just like Maman's other locations (including its other UWS spot), this newly opened outpost has a lovely aesthetic and is absolutely mobbed with locals sipping cortados and nibbling petite pastries that often feature interesting and elaborate flavors, e.g., the "dark chocolate chili raspberry olive oil loaf cake." There's lots to explore on the fairly massive menu (try the quiche!), but I'm going to focus on the cookies, partly because they're really good and partly because they're a personal passion (if my doctor knew that ~20% of my daily calories were cookie-derived, hoo boy). Maman's baked beauties aren't quite as immense as Levain's leviathans, but they also aren't going to be mistaken for those precious little Lotus Biscoffs that can be dunked into a macchiato. Eat an entire one and you'll be satisfied but not incapacitated. I've enjoyed all the flavors I've tried so far (brown butter coconut, white chocolate pretzel, white chocolate rose and nutty chocolate chip), even if I haven't yet been totally blown away. This review is mostly about me singing my praises for Jada, one of their employees. The other day, my partner & I went to go pick up our Mealpal reservation earlier than the allowed pick-up time, and Jada really went out of her way to take care of us. When we realized we couldn't scan the QR code yet, she could've easily said "Please come back later" but she went in the kitchen to talk to the staff, talked to her manager, AND was able to accommodate us with a huge smile on her face. There ended up being a miscommunication so our order ended up taking longer than expected, and again, Jada went out of her way to check-in with us, and even offered us complimentary pastries because of the wait. If this is not high quality customer service, I don't know what is. Honestly, every cafe, restaurant, office, and organization in the world needs a Jada. Thanks Jada :) you really made our day. Beautiful cafe with nice decor and plates. The passion fruit brioche was so good! The quiche they had was good too, but I think getting a pastry is the way to go. Service took a while. They didn't have the quiche we wanted, which we were notified after we'd been sitting for a while. Then it took a good amount of time before they brought out the replacement of a different kind.
