The crab cakes were moist and full of crab. The food was very good. The service was super slow. It was a Friday evening we were able to get in with out a long wait. It was crowded. The yelp checkin for a bread pudding took forever. As we were leaving without it, the manager approached and gave it to us as he made jokes. That made it alright. The food and service were the best we've ever had. The food was fresh, well seasoned and piping hot off the stovetop. Above all else though, the customer service from our waitress Bree mad the experience a beyond great experience. She has such a great soul and genuinely wanted our experience to be good. Food: I had the Creole Jambalaya with gator sausage on this trip. However, I had the gator nuggets and shrimp po boy on the last trip. The only thing to say is that this place has flavor and they know how to cook. The portions are large, and the food comes to you in a reasonable time. Look! If your food comes to the table too fast, it makes me think it's been sitting waiting for someone to order it. Thays just my thoughts, so I appreciate a little wait time. The drink are big, and they are not shy about the alcohol. Great drinks. Service: The staff is layer back, polite, and very good at what they do. I love the way they make you feel like you're a local and can have a great conversation with you. They check on you and call you baby or sweetie, and I have to say that day I love that. If you don't get there early, the way time for a table could be 30 + minutes, this olaces fills up fast. The bar is another option to sit, and they offer the full menu at the bar. Atmosphere: The atmosphere is chill with music playing and great conversations going on. It's an average size restaurant with plenty of tables and the decor is so New Orleans. First day in NoLa, and we ate like we didn't have 2 more days to eat. I highly recommend this spot if you're in Nola. They have a rooftop bar, and the hostess said there were 2 floors of dining. It was packed, and there was a long wait for seating. We ended up sitting at the bar, and the bartender was no short of amazing. Everything we had was delicious. The blackened redfish sat on top of dressing that I didn't care for but the fish, shrimp and homemade sauce was really good. The crabcakes were the best crab cakes I've EVER had. Real crab with great consistency and flavor. The red beans and rice were flavored perfectly. I was able to get a free dessert, I got the breadpudding with praline and Rum sauce! Ate here a few days ago! I got the Cajun vajun (a vegetarian option). It was very delicious, cheesy, and heavy. It came with some stewed vegetables in a garlic cream sauce, serve with rice and a dinner roll. It was incredible. Just a little heavier than I would have liked, but to be fair, I was warned. Then we got the strawberry cheesecake for dessert, also a solid choice. I am always curious to try a cheesecake when it's made in house. I'm not 100% sure if they make it in house, but that's what it said on the menu, so we went for it. The crust was very Light and buttery, and the cheesecake itself was smooth and creamy and sweet and melted in your mouth. What more could you ask for? Service was OK, kind of had to be to find the waiter to get our drinks refilled, but other than that everything was fine and the food was great. I passed by this restaurant all the time, but had never been inside, but the inside was beautiful, I love the decorations, and I loved the alligator chandeliers on the ceilings. We stopped in here after we left our hotel for the first time and I am glad we did! The bartender and the manager spoke with us for a good period as we were eating giving us tips, places to go, and even asking if we were okay with a picture for their page! My husband ordered the grilled fish with crab cakes and collard greens and I ordered the "Taste of New Orleans." My husband absolutely demolished his and claimed it was the best fish he had ever had. He wasn't huge on the crab cakes but he is a little picky. The Taste of New Orleans which was a favorite was a nice mix of food! Crawfish, gumbo, rice and beans, and bread! Since we dined before sunset, the vibe was still chill and offered a birds-eye view of the famous street. I ordered the blackened redfish, which was a new dish for me, and I absolutely loved it! The Cajun sauce was amazing and paired nicely with both the fish and mashed potatoes. The meal also comes with a bowl of mustard greens but I had no desire to try them. Since we were kicking off a girls trip, I indulged in a tropical storm drink. The mix of mango, passion fruit, cranberry and pineapple was perfect! Came here with my two friends. I got the shrimp Alfredo. It was really good. Well seasoned and a good portion of shrimp in the pasta. One friend got the Caesar salad with the fish. The fish was fried and seasoned well and the salad overall was really good. My other friend got the crab cake Alfredo which was also really good. The atmosphere was fun and inviting. We ordered the crawfish etoufee, the crawfish tails fried, and the charbroiled oysters. The crawfish etoufee was generally pretty good, but it didn't stand out in my memory to others. The crawfish tails were not something I had at other places, but it also didn't stand out too much to me. The batter wasn't super seasoned or anything. The charbroiled oysters were probably my favorite- I have ordered them from other restauraunts to see how they stack. Next, the charbroiled Rockefeller oysters, aaaamazing! The soft French bread to eat it with was in the middle of the dish and added a great addition to the garlic/parmesan and cream herb sauce. Over the top flavors and they aren't stingy with the sauce! The bread pudding with rum sauce and vanilla bean ice cream took the cake! I've never had bread pudding before because of the worry of bad after taste or the raisins. However, this warm bread pudding melts in your mouth and regrettably ate it all so quickly! Every bite was tantalizing!!! Lastly, I finished the meal with a curiosity to try out their popular drinks. I asked our host what would he recommend, and he mentioned the French Quarter Fizz was a good choice. It had Cranberry Juice, Lime Juice, and Ginger Ale. Mambo's on Bourbon Street is a three-story building and is home to the first and only rooftop bar on this street. We walked in with no reservation and was seated right away on the 1st floor, main dining area outlooking Bourbon Street. Ponce was our server and he was so enthusiastic and friendly. We first ordered the Tropical Storm - Three Olives Orange Vodka, 1800 Tequila, Cointreau with mango & passion fruit purees, cranberry & pineapple juices and Hurricane Remy - Remy Martin VSOP & Don Q passion fruit with tropical juices. These drinks tasted really good. We started with the Gator Tail Bites blackened and fried white meat gator tail served with remoulade sauce. Ponce explained the difference between blackened and fried and we did half and half. To me, the gator bites tasted like chicken. For entrees, I had the Taste of New Orleans - Chicken and sausage gumbo, crawfish etouffee and red beans & rice with smoked sausage. This was flavorful, tasted wonderful, and it was great to taste authentic Cajun and Creole cooking. My husband had the Cajun Jambalaya Pasta - Shrimp and alligator sausage with onions, garlic and bell peppers in a creole sauce, tossed with penne pasta. Oysters were a little too rich with the cheese and garlic sauce. Gator bites were absolutely delicious, we had half blackened and half fried.
