I must admit my wife and I were a little difficult, and Chris took it all in stride and kept it professional and maintained great service. We also ended up talking to the manager named Ellory (forgive me if misspelled...) and he was also very professional and accommodating. Loved this spot on Bourbon street! I was visiting out of town with family and friends and we decided on this place for a late lunch. We only waited about 10min for a party of 4. I ordered the Mambo Oysters which come with a creamy lemon zest sauce. It was just ok. I ordered the gumbo as an entree and added shrimp per the recommendation from our waitress. It was an excellent choice! The gumbo was delicious and the shrimp gave it the extra protein needed. Our server was great and gave us a tip to check in on Yelp and get a free dessert. We each decided on a different dessert so we could try them all, and they were all delicious! Kind of torn about this one because the service was incredible, but the food left much to be desired. I keep thinking that maybe I chose the wrong dish, but the food just wasn't hittin'. Came here for lunch on Mardi Gras Fat Tuesday and the place was bustling but surprisingly not overcrowded. I sat at the bar and the atmosphere was cheery and fun (which makes sense on Fat Tuesday). Ashley was my bartender and server and she was marvelous! Super attentive, bubbly, and charismatic. She also makes some damn good drinks too. I asked her for suggestions on the menu. After consulting with her and looking the menu over, I ordered the oysters Rockefeller and the grilled redfish with beurre blanc sauce. I also had the Tropical Storm cocktail which was super fruity and delicious. The oysters Rockefeller came out first. Not sure who in the kitchen decided to put this together, but it seemed like there was zero effort put forth on the presentation. You can tell that someone in the back sloppily threw this together. But never mind the presentation; the actual oysters themselves were a let down. I've had plenty of oysters Rockefeller in my day. This... was not oysters Rockefeller. The coating tasted gravy like. It was bland and unappetizing. The oysters were also overcooked. So damn disappointing. They weren't horrible but they weren't good either. Next up was the redfish. So, I'm used to eating thinner, flakier style fish like Salmon, Tilapia, and Cod. This was my first time ever having redfish and boy is it... thick. I feel like this preparation didn't suit the texture of this fish. But also, I'm not a fan of meatier fish. I was thrown off a bit. It was also dry but that may also be my take on it since it's meatier. The beurre blanc sauce was okay but this needed some other kind of seasoning to combat the texture in my opinion. The sides, however, were very tasty. The redfish came with greens and grits which were both good (especially those grits!). I didn't finish everything because I was getting too full. I was about to call it a night until Ashley brought out a dessert menu. Normally I'd probably never get a dessert during lunch, but it was Fat Tuesday and I had to go big. Plus, Yelp had a check-in offer for a free dessert. I ordered the bread pudding and holy GEEZUS! This was their saving grace. That bread pudding is DYNAMITE! Do you hear me?! Suddenly I was starving again and practically licked the damn plate clean! It was so rich and decadent. The bread pudding was literally soaked in rum sauce. Mouth watered the entire time that I consumed this thing! If for nothing else, come for the desserts and drinks because this is where they truly excel. Also can't forget the wonderful little tour that Ash (not Ashley at the bar, but another Ashley) gave me! She took me up to the second floor and showed me the rooftop which was bustling on Fat Tuesday! There's also a cute photo op on the way up there. We stopped there and she took a great picture of me (thank you!). We took the elevator down and admired the crazy artwork and photography. It was such a fun experience. So yeah, service and experience wise; this place is great! But, I was underwhelmed by the food overall. The bread pudding was phenomenal though! We were looking for a place to grab dinner for our 1st night in New Orleans. The worker drew us in from the sidewalk and we decided to go to Mambo's! First of all the place had the most fun Halloween decorations which we loved!! Our waitress was amazing! She was so attentive and kind and welcoming- she really made the experience! We ate dinner at Mambo's on our first night in New Orleans. Located right on Bourbon Street,it's the perfect spot if you want to walk up and down Bourbon afterwards. The line outside wasn't much of a long wait & we were seated right away. We had gator tail bites for the first time & this was so crispy and seasoned well. I highly recommend. We also got the Mambo's famous oysters. They are chargrilled over an open flame with a creamy Cajun sauce covering them. You can see the open flame grill situated in the corner of the restaurant as well. The oysters were absolutely delicious! I reccomend this app as well. The Cajun flavors are incredible in New Orleans. For dinner I had their crawfish festival. This comes with 3 different crawfish (yes 3!!) it came with crawfish etouffee, crawfish cornbread, and fried crawfish tails. This dish was very flavorful & came in a nice portion. My husband got the shrimp & grits and the shrimp had such a great flavor to it. The grits were a bit different in texture and how we make them in NC but not bad . Yes , this restaurant is slam packed and yes the server might be a tad slower on getting to you but the food makes up for it , I promise . Overall I have to say we absolutely love New Orleans and so glad we got to experience this state that is filled with culture , amazing Cajun food, and wonderful people. Our business colleagues picked Mambos to meet up after a long day at a convention. I was struggling to find suitable options for a meal until I saw that Mambo's had a vegetarian menu, Our server was busy but she had also been highlighted as one of the best servers in several Yelp reviews so I felt reassured that the night was going to fall in our favor. We were seated at a circular table near the window which was opened to all the shenanigans of Bourbon Street. The shenanigans from the street can be extremely distracting but make for interesting conversation. I reviewed the vegetarian options and decided on the vegetarian Po-Boy Zucchini, squash, and sun-dried tomatoes sauteed with bell pepper and onions Dressed with lettuce, tomatoes, pickles, onions, and Remoulade sauce served with french fries. I asked to have it without the remoulade sauce in the hopes of making it vegan. I did explain that it was my preference and hoped the kitchen would follow through, Dinner came and the other diner's dishes were spectacularly stunning. From the appetizer of BBQ Shrimp to the entrees of Blackened Redfish Lafourche, Cajun Jambalaya Pasta, and Red Beans and Rice with Crispy Chicken. My sandwich definitely felt poor compared to the rest of the dishes on the table. The vegetables were fresh, and nicely seasoned but hidden below them, unbeknownst to me was a bed of coleslaw. I wish I had known about the coleslaw as it contains milk. I did my best to eat around the coleslaw but it was more work than fighting off tourists at Cafe du Monde or catching the trolley car on Canal Street. In the end, there are a lot of restaurants in New Orleans that serve the same menu, and Mambo's was okay. I would have loved to check out the rooftop bar or stay long into the night to see more Shenanigans but that will have to wait until the next time I'm back in the city that knows how to party. read more

As soon as we got off the plane we ran to bourbon street. I'm not sure how we ended up here but I wanted some good chargrilled oysters. Our server was excellent. Prompt patient and attentive. I ordered mustard greens, crawfish etoufee, crabcakes, fried seafood platter and six mambo oysters. The mambo sauce was great, however every oyster I ate had a crunch and I found myself spitting out pieces of shell. The etoufee was spicy beyond my tolerance. The mustard greens were delicious and the crab cakes were mostly bready filling and sauce, like flavored ice cream scoop shaped fried sponges. We spent 100 bucks of flavored regret. The shrimp was great, firm with a snap of the shrimp with the inside you can complete see the fried shrimp was fried a little over and it was too hard. Disappointment. The Mambo famous oysters, they were buttery, rich, full flavored, amazing butter, the oysters shrank but they were nice and tender. The dish had toooooooooo much butter and not enough different of a flavor just 1 taste and 1 note, butter and only butter. It needed more lime or cayenne on top, something to cut into the flavor profile. The bread on the inside was nice to eat, fluffy bread but again just butter. The boudin balls, they sucked to be honest. From the outside they looked nice and crispy but when I put a fork into it, it tasted under cooked, tooo soft, it definitely needed to be cooked longer, I couldn't finish it. I'd recommend to go to another restaurant like Drago or Felix if you want to try a better style of oysters, yes the meals were good but with the lack of cooking time, the long wait, my experience coming from Austin TX, it wasn't pleasant. read more

More crawfish pieces would have been nice, and I feel they could have buttered the bread or done something more with it. We had a huge party of 29, but our servers did a great job with everything. Because of our group size, we made a reservation beforehand, and they ended up seating us on their rooftop balcony which was such a vibe.
