They remodeled the place to make it look more modern, but it just looks so odd to me and the seats aren't comfortable. Walking down St Marks Place , I can't help notice that it has transformed into a scene from Bladerunner (minus the flying vehicles and those lightsaber looking umbrellas) . It has always been one of the attractions of The LES and coming back after years away , I've seen more changes have been made, different cafes , restaurants and other interesting shops have replaced the previous ones I frequented. But this Mango to the second power looked interesting (not to mention the Mountain House wrap around restaurant ... or was that 2 restaurants ? I digress) Now I can almost never turn down mango in any form so this place sparked my curiosity , "how many ways can you use mango, fill it up in a menu and then get people to eat it?". And is it going to be that really sweet Mexican pulpy mango that Indo-Pak folks love (are we still using that term, Indo-Pak? Such an 80s/90s term) or is it going to be that other alternative stringy Haitian mango, still acceptable and you get to have your teeth flossed as you eat it. OR is it going to be the tangy flavored mango with some tart , some pulp and hopefully complimented with sweetness... yup it's the third. First off the Mango Mille cake was amazing. Right out of the gates, the flavor popped and texture was fluffy. Basically it's 20 or so crepes stacked with mango crème spread between each and you slice it like a cake...but If you do order that , make sure you get 1-2 scoops of ice cream because it will somehow complete the dessert experience. Trust me on that. The 2nd dessert ordered was gonna be a hit or miss...sticky rice w fruit and ice cream? I was hoping there was gonna be some magic in it, like the pairing was gonna blow my tastebuds out of the water buuuuuut...*record scratch* it was o k . Too much sticky rice, not enough ice cream, the mango was tangy and all together it got a C+ . The Mille cake stole the show and the earl grey lavender (no pics taken of that) helped settle everything well. This is hands down my favorite dessert spot in New York, or maybe even the world. I've been here so many times and it still hits every time. Everything about this place is great. The desserts of course are amazing. I get the snow white mango juice with sago & pomelo with ice cream every time, and if you're feeling a little extra spunky you should try ordering a side of rice balls too. The other desserts are all really good too and taste just like the kind you would find in Asia. The desserts are all so light that you can eat finish the whole mf by yourself, which is very rare for me. The shop itself is really cute too, with a good amount of seating. The only thing is that this shop is always so busy, so you either have to come before 6pm or wait 20-60 minutes for a table. I've noticed that there's often only one server working the whole shop and they're always working really hard and running around to make sure everyone gets their orders, so make sure you tip a lot! I've seen a lot of spoiled college kids be total a-holes to the staff lol so don't be like them. If I ever see you being rude at my favorite dessert shop it's on sight. read more
