I've been to a Mango Mango in Houston (Texas) before and it was amazing so when I returned to NYC, I was craving a mango sago. I went with my sister and we got the mango combo A and a mango nutella crepe. This one is an "artisan lab" so the interior was cave-like and the bowls/plates that the food came on were handmade ceramics or something like that. Anyhow, they must have put their budget on those handmade ceramics instead of the food because the food wasn't it. The mango mochi was good because you can't really go wrong with mochi but the mango sago lacked flavor and sweetness. The mango was frozen so it tasted off and the mango juice itself wasn't really sweet/flavorful, so it kind of ruined the entire dish. The crepe was also just okay. My wife and I swung by here for a quick mid-afternoon dessert bite a couple weekends back. While I can imagine this place is probably busier at night time (as well as when NYU is in regular session), it was a nice respite to be in the heart of East Village and be in a nearly-empty place at this time of day. The service, as others have mentioned, can be a bit lackadaisical - we were given menus, but we didn't bother waiting for them to come back to place our order or to pay for the check, largely as it seemed like the folks at the front were simply not going to check in on us otherwise. That being said, I did enjoy the mango-oriented dessert that we got; the shaved ice is pretty flavorful without being too icy (the coconut also helps to cut this a bit), while the mango is pretty freshly-chopped, and the sago was generously added to our bowl. I wouldn't mind coming back to try out some of the other desserts, and of some of the other Asian-oriented dessert spots, I liked this one a bit more given that it is a bit more spacious and has fairly simple yet tasty desserts. That said, while I don't expect service to always be top-notch, it would be nicer if the folks on-duty appeared to be a bit more dialed-in to what was going on. The desserts here are great! And by desserts, I mean A3. It's the white snow with mango ice cream mango chunks, sago, and pomelo (grapefruit bits). The sweetness of the mango and the slight tartness of the pomelo go really well together, and the ice cream and white snow are super soft and creamy. If it had been just me, I would've just ordered this however my group sprang for the Strawberry & Nutella waffle with Green Tea Ice Cream. They open at 1pm, which is perfect timing because people will be finishing lunch. The space is so clean and spacious compared to the location in Chinatown and Flushing. I didn't opt for any mango desserts, but instead got a bobochacha, one of my favorite desserts growing up that my dad made for me. The dessert consists of a coconut milk soup with tiny tapioca pearls, taro, and purple or yellow sweet potato. Absolutely delicious. This place has the slowest service and is so expensive for what you're getting! My friend and I ordered 2 desserts to go-her the mixed fresh fruit with sago and jelly and me the strawberry mango juice sago with lychee jelly and durian ice cream. My order was supposed to come with mango ice cream; they were out so I substituted durian. I generally like milder durian flavors so this ice cream was quite a shock to my system. I could barely finish an entire spoonful; it was so pungent and pretty much ruined the entire dish. If you love durian, though, you may very well love this! We paid over $8 for each order; you're essentially getting a tiny bowl of fruit with some sugary ice and jelly. Not worth it to me. We also waited over 20 minutes for our food; mine was ready almost immediately but my friend's took the whole time. By the time we were able to eat, my ice cream had melted and the durian flavor had seeped everywhere! How unfortunate.
