I would come back to Minneapolis just for this place. My husband and I were in town for a softball tournament and it happened to be our 4 year wedding anniversary. Because of the tournament we didn't know what time would be best to make a reservation, he called and the host suggested to come at 6pm or 8pm. We went around 6 and got a table easily in the bar area. It was a little loud but that was because of a group just standing and being loud, not necessarily the restaurants fault. I'm kicking myself for not remembering our servers name. He was absolutely amazing and truly made this experience one to remember. His pitch was great, he was so accommodating and on top of things. Plus I don't think I ever got to drink a full glass of water before it was replenished. If you worked in the bar area on 9/1 and accidentally scared me after I took a huge bite of bread- you were amazing and I still forgive you for scaring me lol The food is the true star of this place (it's it should be). My husband and I both agreed that this was the best filet mignon we've ever had. It was seasoned and cooked to perfection. We got the Bailey's cake for dessert. How I wish we could have bought the entire cake of this to bring home. If there's a way to ship some to Indiana...please respond to this review. It's a steakhouse so it's not typical every day dinner type of stuff (at least for our tax bracket). But for what we got, I think the prices are justified. Jacketed waitstaff, compete attention to detail & service that is lost in much of the food establishment industry these days. From the greeting, to seating, to menu presentation, to the bill you are given dedicated treatment and care. This IS a steak house, and they present to you samples of the aged (28-days, + 65/80-day aged specials) cuts of meat as visuals along with the lobster and King Crab. The 28-day aged is wonderful and tasty, but if you like the funk of an older cut, go for the 65/80-day. The Bludgeon is a 54oz Tomahawk cut of meat that I'll definitively try next time. The Fillet Mignon is the one cut that is not aged, but I would worry about any funkiness the aging. I had the Porterhouse (MR) and my spouse had a Fillet Mignon (MW), both with a crunchy hard char on the edges of the steak that they flame with 1000deg. to quickly sear the meat. The sides are table shareable a'carte, we had the asparagus (thick as your finger) w/ Béarnaise sauce were exquisitely tender from tip to base. A side special was a Mexican corn (de-cobbed) dish, Elote. The bread is a heavenly caraway rye and raisin pumpernickel with a house made whipped butter. The drinks are top-notch! If a Manhattan (or Old Fashioned) is your style, GET the Manny's Manhattan martini...that drink *speaks* business lunch. One of these will get your buzz on so be prepared, it is sooo smooth. My fiancé and I came into Manny's on a busy Saturday night, while staying at W (Manny's is W's dinner outlet), after a flattering comment of our Uber driver that this restaurant has the best steak in town! We needed to check that out :) The place was full however we were promptly seated at the high top table near the bar, which was totally comfortable. Our server Paul was amazing! He brought a tray with all the kinds of steak (raw) to show and explained each kind to us. Such a beautiful and interesting presentation! In 5 minutes we learnt more about the steak than in our whole life - THANK YOU, PAUL. We ended up choosing a porterhouse steak, that has filet mignon on one side of the bone and NY strip on the other - I can't say it was the best steak I've ever tasted, but it was very good. I thoroughly enjoyed it with a glass of Cote du Rhône. Now, the PORTIONS ARE HUGE. A smaller porterhouse and a side of caramelized Brussels sprouts (yummm) was more than enough for two people. Also, a separate Kudos goes to all the server team in general - they work as a single perfect mechanism! Filling up our waters, they remembered from the first ask that we take it without ice, and three different people made sure there is not a cube of ice in our glasses. How thoughtful! Manny's is marvelous! I'm lucky that my work has an annual dinner here. It's so good, but so expensive! You definitely need a table full because you order your steak individually and then share side dishes. My favorite side dish is their hashbrowns. I'm sure it's all butter and onions up in those potatoes but it makes them taste amazing! My other go to sides are the sauteed mushrooms, macaroni and cheese, asparagus and loaded mashed potatoes. We start with the seafood tower which is the best! Such a fresh, tasty variety. The shrimp there are humongous. They definitely qualify as jumbo shrimp. Fantabulous! For steak I usually order the large filet so I have leftovers. It's so tender and juicy! The desserts are magical and humongous. Definitely enough to share with your entire table! As a holiday splurge my son and I checked out the Game Day Buffet this past Sunday. For $40 it's quite the deal. I got most of my favorites!! Awful...simply awful! $60 per person Easter brunch, table for 4 at 12:30 p.m. got stuck in a booth having asked for a table, were steered to a dark adjacent hallway outside the restaurant for slim pickings on both poorly curated and unattended cold and hot lines. Returned twice to try and find carved Prime Rib as advertised...dry ham but no prime rib. Nasty salmon dish...also cold, cold sauteed vegetables...mostly onions, no lobster in the lobster scramble, nothing kept hot and refreshed. To add to an already poor experience I found filthy dessert plate under the one I took and decided instead to use a napkin to take a church basement bar that was all they offered for dessert. Must have been running short as even these were cut in half. I made this reservation in early February bragging to my guests how they would enjoy the experience, but this is not the old Manny's. $60 for a single half filled plate of less than mediocre food isn't right. This kitchen didn't give a damn what they were dishing up, and it showed. The only decent thing about this experience was our waitperson Jody. There are other choices even in a depleted and diminished downtown Minneapolis, and Manny's should stop doing brunch like a Ramada would serve and stick to steak and Martini's. Yes, it is all very expensive to eat here and borderline ridiculous, but sometimes the best top picks of ingredients won't be easily found at other places. 4/5 Dozen Oysters $25.95 were really fresh and tasted nice with the fresh horseradish they included. I have seen larger ones for this price but still excellent. 5/5 Portobello Fries $20.95 were super creative and super delicious. I kept eating them and couldn't stop, knowing that the best part of my meal was coming. 5/5 Lobster Tail $92.95 This lobster tail must have weighed around 2 pounds and once cooked up and dipped in butter, there aren't too many things that are more succulent than this. 5/5 Manny's Steak $84.95 was a special cut from the cap of the ribeye that's very hard to find. It reminded me of a tri-tip but the meat was more tender and flavorful than that. It weighed around 22-24oz. 5/5 Bone-In Ribeye $79.95 was grilled perfectly and was seasoned with the perfect amount of salt. The bone gave it much greater flavor and this was one of the best steaks I've tried. 4/5 Creamed Spinach $15.95 was good; taste was missing a little salt and could have been better, but I was so engulfed in eating the other things I was ok with this being the less attractive item on table. 5/5 Small Onion Hash Brown $15.95 was quite large and done just right; who doesn't like a little hash brown with a perfectly grilled steak. 5/5 Apple Crisp With Ice Cream and Caramel $17.95 was a very large dessert that was as good as it looked. Came here for our office christmas party - it was ok. I was a little disappointed. The bacon (which apparently is a huge ticket item for this establishment) while it was good was just SUPER THICK. I know that that is just what it is but my gawd lol, you can only eat so much of that. Also, got the hearts of palm salad - I did not know that that meant that there would be 2 measly pieces of hearts of palm on a huge bed of lettuce with literally 2 tomato halves on the plate ... just not what I wanted or expected. Then finally, I ordered the ahi tuna and it was dry as eff. I'm telling you.. I was like yea no, I don't even want this at all. Grossly overhyped, the meat was nothing to write home about. I understand it's well sourced and aged, but honestly? If you did a blind taste test with Texas Roadhouse, you couldn't tell the difference. Steaks were standard and lightly touched with flavor. We ordered and got our steaks EXTREMELY fast, like worryingly fast. Within 5-10 minutes fast. One steak was ordered rare, so fair enough, it should be a fast cook. But it came out at the same time at the medium steak, but was cooked more? The medium steak was also warm, at best. The ambience is nice, workers are very attentive, explained the meat choices very thoroughly and check glasses upon plating. Unfortunately there was a hair from something at the bottom of my wine glass I didn't catch since it was red. The sides were delicious though, I would just go for those to be honest. For the price tag and the hype, I'd expect a lot more. Overall, I think you could find more bang for your buck somewhere else. read more

I was in town for a convention and Manny's was highly recommended to us by several locals. I ended up here twice this week and both meals were absolutely perfect. The wine and cocktail selection is extensive and if you aren't sure of what you want, your server can certainly guide you. The steaks here are phenomenal and the cuts are some of the best in the country and that's saying a lot. If you love steak you will not be disappointed. The sides are huge and will typically serve 4 to 6 people but don't let that stop you from ordering more than one. The loaded mashed potatoes and the hashed browns were excellent as was the grilled asparagus. Finally, the desserts. The cheesecake is to die for and the key lime pie is the best I've ever had. However, the food was pretty bad. On the service, it was superb - friendly, knowledgeable, filled glasses, cleared plates, all of the courses ran smoothly. The food was not good. Maybe this place had been over-hyped by the locals, but the food at every course was mediocre. Our salads were really dull. The sides were uninspiring - broccoli and asparagus were pretty meh and the mashed potatoes with cheese and bacon were kind of weird - a giant pile of overly pureed mashed, with a layer of sour cream and then slices of cheddar cheese over the top with chunks of bacon. It arrived with the cheese dried. The steaks were chewy and had a strange texture to them. This was not high-end steakhouse quality meat. I was super excited to try this steakhouse from everything I had heard from some colleagues and other acquaintances. The environment inside the restaurant is very nice, not gaudy but one that makes you feel you are in a well heeled establishment. The service (we were a group of 18) was very good, attentive and not overbearing. However, the food was disappointing. 9 out of 10 times (when I go to a steakhouse) I choose my favorite steak; a bone-in rib eye abs that's what I did at Manny's. Frankly, for the immense price of this steak, it was totally underwhelming. The wife got New York steak and it was a little better... seasoned well but a bit tougher than I would have expected. I have been here a total of 3 times in a span of 6 years, two of which are for business purposes and one of which for personal leisure, and each time Manny's managed to deliver with high quality food, presentation, and service. I will talk about the personal leisure time, which was just earlier today, when my friend and I went to Manny's for dinner. The ambient atmosphere was perfect because I felt like I was able to have a good conversation with my friend without worrying about noise level making me have to raise my volume. I was also impressed with the waitress' ability to introduce different parts of beef they serve, as she presented each piece of meat wrapped in plastic wrap, including the non-steak options. We went with their seasonal menu Brussels sprouts and the popular asparagus as side dishes. The Brussels sprouts were very sweet, which I could see as a turn off for some people. For me, it was good, and I thoroughly enjoyed the flavor profile because it was very different from how I would usually just roast those vegetables. The asparagus were well-seasoned to the point that I really did not need the Hollandaise sauce at all, so I just ate the asparagus plain. They were huge, and there was a lot of it. Then I had the thick cut salmon and asked for medium well, and it was spot on. Adding some lemon on the top just made it perfect. They used a piece of Atlantic salmon, so it was bound to be tasty already. The crust was seasoned and crispy, while the inside was soft and showing signs of gradually changing colors. Perfection! My friend had the bone in tenderloin, medium rare of course, and I had a few pieces as well. It was slightly dry on the outside so maybe either there wasn't enough butter or it may have dried up when brought out to her, but the inside was tender and juicy. I have had the double porterhouse and the porterhouse before in my first two occasions, and the chefs cooked my steak pieces perfectly. For dessert, we went with the key lime pie. One thing to know about Manny's sides and dessert portions is that they are huge. With that said, we got one key lime pie, and the size looked like it was good for 6-8 people. The key lime pie was very sour, which resulted in my friend taking very few bites, but I definitely enjoyed every bite of it. Some say this is the best steakhouse in the Twin Cities. Even if I have not been to a lot of steakhouses, I can say this is the best one I have been to in the area, and there is a reason my company chooses this for top performers' business occasions. I confirmed the filet (medium)was much more tender (not a surprise) and more flavorful (big surprise) than my ribeye. Sides. Broccoli was plain, simple and fine. The mushrooms were fine but not noteworthy, and the crab legs are good but expensive and presented as a slipped on pile of meat after they shelled them. The cheesecake is huge but has no crust and is nothing special. The service was good. I don't mind spending $450 for dinner for two but I want the food to be fantastic. This isn't. Ambiance is good. I was briefly visiting the Twin Cities and a few locals told me Manny's was a must for any foodie. I immediately made a reservation for my last evening in town and I'm so glad that I did. Located on the ground floor of the Foshay building, the entrance is unassuming but feels upscale as soon as you enter. All the staff were delightful, especially our server, Nancy, who was a great sport when my date asked if they offered a vegan menu. I appreciated the meat cart they bring around so that you can both figure out what you're in the mood for taste-wise as well as gauge the portions. I had a gin-based cocktail and it was very strong and perfectly herbal. We started with the salad from their evening specials and the heirloom tomatoes were beautiful and accompanied by perfectly creamy burrata. As for the main course? I ordered the filet mignon medium rare and just...wow. Perfectly seared, perfectly cooked, perfectly seasoned. Truly an incredible steak that needed nothing, but was elevated by a touch of bearnaise. My date had the halibut and it was beautiful. I'm not a big fish person, but he said it was very good. The macaroni and cheese was also delicious with just a hint of smokiness. (Maybe from gouda?) I told Nancy we were celebrating me beginning graduate school and she hooked us up with an amazing slice of cake. A perfect end to the meal. I was stuffed for my flight! Really, really good steak house in downtown setting. Food is A1 and so is the service. But oh, it's expensive. You get what you pay for.
