As someone who had lived in Santa Cruz for half a decade and frequented Verve about 2-3x a week, this place brought back good memories of the pastries and coffee I had ordered from there. My mom ordered a cappuccino while I ordered an iced matcha latte as well as a fermented polenta blueberry cake. They didn't have soy milk here which is what I prefer to have matcha with so I went with oat milk instead. It was towards closing hours and the cashier was kind enough to give us a second polenta cake on the house. I came back a second time and ordered a hot matcha latte and a monkey bread. The monkey bread was a lot crispier than I remember it being but it was less sweet than I remember (which is a good thing) and balanced the hot matcha very well. This place is a lovely cafe that deserves a higher rating as I will be coming here whenever I'm in the Campbell area. read more

Came here to try their latte and bread. I got an iced vanilla latte and dark chocolate cherry bread. What worked: -- coffee was good, nice balance of sweet to bitter -- pretty environment, lots of light coming in from the windows -- bread was unique and I enjoyed the combination of chocolate and cherry What didn't work: -- prices were very high. My latte cost $6 and they sell a single piece of avocado toast for $14. That's absurd to me -- the bread was $12 for a full loaf. It's unique but I can get something equally or more delicious for much less at the grocery store -- very noisy. Music wasn't too loud but the sound of people talking seems amplified in there. -- crowded. They are really flakey, buttery, and fresh. Their layers are lovely and it's like croissant from France. Their monkey bread is yummy too! Their drinks are good but nothing stellar. Very cute shop with yummy looking pastries- but we were wanting something more substantial, so we got the bacon and sausage breakfast sandwiches, along with lattes. My wife didn't love how smoky the bacon was, but I think she chose the better sandwich. I had mega food regret. My sausage sandwich was comprised of very dense biscuits (in my mind I'd imagined they'd be light and fluffy?), an egg square, and the smallest sausage patty. When I think of Manresa,I think of two things. High quality, deliciously crafted pastries. High prices that reflect that quality. In my opinion, Manresa serves some of THE best croissants I've ever had. The evidence in their cross section of the layers is very apparent. Somebody took their sweet time laminating and rolling all of those layers. The artwork and craftsmanship of croissants are *chef's kiss* the epitome of the quality of the pastry itself. My favorites here: chocolate croissant, almond croissant, buckwheat brownie, and buttermilk biscuit. Coffee here is just average. Come for the pastries!! This location is fantastic except on weekends when the farmers market is there. The lines can be crazy long with very limited parking. The interior has lots of natural lighting with a good portion of both indoor and outdoor seating. They also sell some really cute merchandise including cups, shirts, tote bags, etc. When I feel like treating myself to a pastry, I always come to Manresa. The prices are on the high side but I think some of their high quality baked goods are really worth the price. read more

(Population 76k) First in the name use of Manresa in Northern California, is in 1894, the College of Santa Clara opened along a stretch of coastline a Catholic retreat called Villa Manresa. The name was a reference to Manresa, Spain. It became a State of California protected beach, Manresa, in 1948, on Monterey Bay near the city of Watsonville, in Santa Cruz county. The name Manresa was used again in Norcal In 2002, as a high-end restaurant in Los Gatos, California, founded by celebrity chef David Kinch, who trained/worked in France, Japan, the east coast of US, and in Catalonia, Spain. His restaurant Manresa achieved 3 Michelin stars in 2016. At Manresa, the Michelin star restaurant, worked a food runner from North Carolina, who was a baker by training (worked at Thomas Keller's 3 Michelin Star Per Se restaurant in New York City as a baking apprentice) who had also studied abroad in Europe during college before culinary school, and did the bread baking at Manresa in the mornings before she was a food runner at night. They have partnered with Verve Coffee, the Santa Cruz based roaster and outlets, for Coffee Meets Bread. (Not to be confused with Coffee Meets Bagel, the popular dating app founded by Asian sisters to curate 6 men for you, the woman.) Almost all the locations have baker hours from 8am to 3pm, except Palo Alto opens until 6pm (the other locations not mentioned are Los Altos and Santa Cruz). I came in to this Campbell location around lunch for a bite before an appointment around the corner. It struck me a little like the chains Lemonade or Mendocino Farms meets Peet's Coffee in Apple store white instead of Coffee brown decor. There were a few sample sandwiches in the front of the counter, so I picked an innocuous Turkey Sand, and an Oat Latte (they don't offer Soy). They don't accept cash either, oddly, and I bantered with the counter staff a bit about how Apple stores didn't accept cash either, until someone sued them. They said I could email the owner if it bothered me. That's nice, but It wasn't an issue for me, I was just curiously intrigued. From a cash control POV, it makes sense. I am old enough to remember when Panda Express long ago would offer to give you something free if you didn't get a receipt. This is a way to reduce pilferage/theft on a buffet line, and maintain cost control and margins in a tight margin business. Nowadays, you can smash display cases and run out with expensive contraband if you're quick, have a hammer, and in a group, Nobody will stop you, but they may film you for their instagram content. The Turkey sandwich was great, a mountain of turkey breast meat on fresh bread slices which were firm, and didn't wilt under the generous Pesto sauce that gave it a simple but tasty flavor that I and any Mediterranean sandwich eater would enjoy. The oat latte was good as well, with your classic foam deco float. You can pre-order breads from Manresa Bread off their website, but you need to do it 4 days in advance, and buy over $40. They offer beer and wine at the eat-in locations, although I ordered neither, so I can't tell you much, because I usually don't drink before 3pm. Despite the high end name and heritage, this is a casual place, so for food, order at the counter, get a number stick, and they bring the food out to you. Not quite like Avery did long ago in the Michelin star Manresa, you need a lot more bread for that, lol. The staff was very nice, despite my leg pulling about no cash/plastic. read more

I've had Manresa's bread quite a few times but never actually sat down at the cafe to eat. My hubby and I were waiting for our car wash to finish and figured we get coffee while we wait. The ceilings are high and makes the cafe seem spacious. There are plenty of seatings and lots of pastries to choose from. We enjoyed the honey latte and vanilla chai latte with a gluten free pumpkin muffin. They serve Verve coffee and it's nice to have gluten free options for the ones who need it. We were given some pastries from this shop and they were delicious! The Kouign Amann and almond croissants were especially delightful. There were some filling in the center that heightened the flavor of the pastries. The sugar crust of the Kouign Amann was perfectly crunchy and great contrast with the pillowy softness of the inside. This review is really just for their matcha latte. I been on the hunt for a good matcha latte in the Campbell area and this is now my #1 spot for matcha latte. First off, it actually has flavor and you can taste the matcha!!! I tried it both hot and iced and I prefer it hot. I think iced makes the drink more water down and loses the matcha taste. Come here if you need a matcha latte. Ofc they also have a bunch of baked goodies, sliced bread, avocado toast and other stuff on the menu but I haven't really tried it b/c I'm usually on the go and just need my latte. Btw I'm not a big fan of their order online option. I guess if you order your baked goods or bread online, it will be ready for pick up when you arrive but if you order drinks you still have to wait. They tell the batista you're here and they make your drinks on your arrival, so you'll still find yourself waiting +5 or 10 mins depending on how busy it is. Ok, my friend Debs said I needed to come here because the restaurant received Michelin stars, and the bakery was much easier to get into, and cheaper....LOL! I came in just before noon on the same day as the Campbell's farmers market (Sundays) and the line was out the door, but moved quickly. Once it was my turn to order, a lot of their pastries and breads were sold out for the day but I managed to snag the last kougin amann! It was flakey and had a nice caramelized bottom, but for $5 it was just a little underwhelming. I've had more buttery and flakier ones before, but I don't come by these often so I had to try one :) I wonder if they give customers the option to have it warmed up because it was ten times better when I warmed it up at home. For coffee I tried the cascara iced coffee. So refreshing and slightly sweet. It's made from the fruit of the coffee and has similar notes to hibiscus tea, as one of the baristas described it. My friend brought me here one morning for a quick breakfast and I was pleasantly surprised! It's located in the downtown Campbell area. You can park in the free parking garage behind Aquis. You seat yourself and order at the register. They have lots of yummy pastries to choose from as well as their bread selection and a to order menu. And also coffee of course! I ordered the chia pudding and it was delicious! Perfect consistency and sweetness. My friend got the sausage egg and cheese sandwich. She said it was alright and kind of on the dry side. The winner was the blueberry polenta cake! It was dense but also soft. We devoured it in a second. Trust me, you have to try it! I'll definitely return for a quick chill breakfast. I had been wanting to try this place for a while and stopped by early on a weekday to try to get some work done as well. There were quite a few people there when I arrived but still some seats left. I order an iced monkey bread latte (2/5) and the kouign amann (10000/10). The latte wasn't sweet and had a very bitter taste to it. I'm not sure how it was supposed to taste like monkey bread... However the kouign amann was one of the best things I have ever ate. They warmed it up so it was soft and almost gooey on the inside while the outside was flaky and crispy. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND trying it!!! It is buttery and so so delicious. I wouldn't recommend this as a place to study since it can be quite loud and I didn't see many outlets, but it definitely would be a cute date spot. Absolutely love Manresa Bread. Cant believe I've been walking by so many times and only stopped in now. It is now my go-to local coffee shop and bakery . They serve Verve coffee which is delicious and they make a monkey bread latte and it's my FAVORITE!! For the bread: their levain loaf is their signature sourdough bread. It is the BEST sourdough I have ever tasted. So flavorful even on its own. Cant say that for most bread! It's divine and it's hard not to eat the whole loaf in one sitting. I switch off between their levain loaf and the olive ciabatta which is addicting to say the least. Their pastries and food are also so good! Their monkey bread is the best monkey bread. This is my go to bakery for good bread near home. Birth their levain and while wheat breads are excellent and my son calls them the fancy bread for fancy toast to have at home when we want to dunk a good crusty bread into a sauce with dinner. They're croissants are solid, they're monkey bread is special, and they have very good kouign aman and whole wheat chocolate chip cookies. I'm also a sucker for the current seasonal pastry, which is the everything pastry with cream cheese. I'm not a fan of their muffins and cake products. I've tried a couple and they're just too crumbly for my taste. The staff is always friendly in front of house, even if they're a bit stressed by long lines. If you know what you want, use the website and order ahead for pick up. Unless you're getting an espresso drink, it really speeds up the time you spend in lines or the store front. read more

They don't put on the menu everything that is in the sandwhich, it's not listed on their menu that there are jalapeños and onion jam in the sandwhich, good combo I guess, but what if someone had an allergy? Def not cool. 2. The sausage itself was really sour and excessively fatty. 3. coupled with the croissant like layered biscuit chock full of butter, we both got stomach aches. Overall: It was really heavy, the flavors were off, I felt nauseous for hours after. 4/5 Bacon egg sandwhich good, but also had the onion jam that's not listed on the menu. 3/5 We both got vanilla lattes (him whole milk me oat milk) I thought the coffee was mediocre too, I didn't taste vanilla at all. 2/5 Kouign-amann also really mediocre. Time: November, Wednesday 9:30 AM Weather: Chilly, very overcast Vibe: Relaxed, elevated, a bit European What I Had: Bacon, Egg, & Cheese Sandwich (sub. biscuit), Flat White Highlights: décor, table service, perfect bacon, played songs I like Summary @ bottom I have sat down at many cafés in my life - but after only two visits, Manresa Bread has quickly become one of my all-time favorites. I admit I am a sucker for slightly upscale European eateries, so no surprise that I adore the décor & food. It is a gorgeous mix of clean, modern furnishings but it doesn't feel clinical and sanitized - rather, the choice of wood (a beautiful red oak!), blue paint, and subtle colorful tiles contribute to a warm & playful interior that feels refreshing without being cold. Plenty of indoor seating, no outdoor. We're in downtown Campbell, so street parking can be a bit tricky. There are plenty of spots but also plenty of customers at rush hour. At 9:30 AM, there were a few spots here and there. Protip: lots of spaces if you just go "behind" the buildings. On a Wednesday the place wasn't packed but had a good amount of people. But onto the food - you order at a counter but they will bring your food out to you and clean up as well. I had the biscuit & jam ($8) and later a Bacon, Egg, and Cheese sandwich ($14). They've recently switched to a "poppyseed roll" but were perfectly fine with substituting a biscuit in my order. This item was absolutely incredible: it was a soft, huge, SUPER flaky buttermilk biscuit - a very modern & high-effort interpretation of a biscuit. I'm very picky about my bacon but this was amazing. It was melty, smoky, just a gentle bit chewy, not at all underdone or overly salty. I have never had such a high-effort, high-attention to detail B.E.C. in my life. FYI there is an "onion jam" in it which was tasty but gave the sandwich a very tangy undertone, so if you don't like tangy flavors consider getting it on the side. 10/10 Unfortunately - and this is why it's four not five stars - I am not a huge fan of the coffee served here. As others have said it feels somewhat underwhelming, both in flavor and strength. Please be aware I am a huge coffee snob, so take this opinion with a grain of salt. If you like gentler coffee you'll love it here. I like strong roasts with dark, complex flavors so I have a bias against this style of beverage. In closing: great food, fun & slightly upscale atmosphere. However, if you're a big coffee person don't expect high-end artisanal coffee roasts. They have a nice selection of both sweet and savory pastries, some pretty unique (first time seeing a 'Kouign Amann') and a modest menu with delicious food. I've been wanting to try out Manresa for a while, but I'm rarely in an area where there is a Manresa. So when I got the chance to be in Los Gatos , I tried to find a Manresa that would be the closest to where I was at and make a trip and I found this Manresa. I'm so glad I did because I loved every single pastry we got and I'm also glad we live far away because I would be broke if this was closer. L O C A T I O N Manresa is on E Campbell in this little downtown-ish area. Quite quaint if you ask me where there are many other shops and restaurants. Parking is a bit tricky, but we got street parking fairly easily right across the street. C O V I D P R O T O C O L As with many spots, everyone is masked up. Customers must be masked up. Only one person ordering in person can be in the store as well as one person picking up orders placed online. There's a line on the left for pick up and the right for walk-ins. There is hand sanitizer for folks to use. M E N U I focused on the pastries, but they have tartines, sandwiches, quiches, breads and drinks as well. I pretty much ordered everything they had on display for pastries minus the regular croissant, carrot muffin and chocolate chip cookie. Everything pretty much cost $4-$5. ~ Almond escargot ~ I was thinking this would be like an almond croissant but clearly I assumed incorrectly. As escargots go, they are bready and a danish. But it's quite interesting that there are lovely layers in this like a croissant. So it's like a bread croissant? This leans more savory than sweet which was a nice contrast to everything else we ordered. ~ Pretzel Ham & Cheese Croissant ~ Less dense than the escargot as it is a croissant. The flakes, the layers, the buttery goodness alongside the smokey ham and mild cheese. It does have saltiness as it is a pretzel. I would suggest warming this as the cheese inside isn't melty at all. But yes, this would ruin the croissant but you know...you could just eat it as is and just enjoy it without melty cheese. ~ Pain Au Chocolat ~ One of the largest pain au chocolats I've ever had rivaling Common Bond in Texas. Though I think that Common Bond's might be larger but of course everything is big in Texas. But I do wish there was more chocolate to croissant ratio, but hey if you want a hint of chocolate to your croissant, then this is your pastry. ~ Kouign Amann ~ OMG so decadent. This was my fav, well one of two of my favs here. It's buttery, it's sweet, it's crunchy...it's everything you want a kouign amann. I've made a kouign amann before and I know how much butter and sugar goes into this...it's worth that $5. ~ Monkey bread ~ This was my other fav. It's a super fun sweet bread, but what's interesting is that again, like the escargot, the bread feels like it's been layered like a croissant and then shaped into balls and made into a small monkey bread. She was taking out all the breads that I wanted and she did miss my monkey bread, but even after I looked over all the breads to make sure the order was right, even I missed it. So when she rung up my order, she was like...wait, you wanted a monkey bread didn't you? I'm like yes! Yes I forgot! So I'm glad she remembered as I would've been sad to not have had a chance to try it out. O V E R A L L I would come back here again in a heartbeat. I've made my own croissants and kouign amann, so I know how hard it is to make. This place makes them well and I'll gladly shell out my money if it means I don't have to go through the painstaking process. Citing "Quality of Ingredients, Quality of Technique, and Quality of Learning" as core values, and doing a good job of convincing national media that Avery Ruzicka's Monkey Bread should sell out moments after opening, guests at Manresa Bread can expect dense $8 Biscuits and $7.50 Lattes plus Pain au Chocolat so underfilled that the taste is nearly imperceptible. "Utilizing what is around us" in the case of local Flour milled in-house daily, though one does wonder if Los Gatos secretly grows Pineapples used in the "Upside Down Kouign Amann," better choices include the classic version wet with Butter at the base but crunchy from middle on up. Seasonal as relates to Cranberries, assertive in the case of a Gluten Free Polenta Muffin and balanced by Goat Cheese in the middle of Viennoiserie, Proteins come in the form of Housemade Sausage or crisp Bacon on a $15 BLT brightened by Vinaigrette on good Bread. Not forgetting an Almond Croissant, lots of rise and natural Filling far better than the Frangipane mess served elsewhere, it seems safe to say that using Whole Wheat doesn't make Ruzicka's Chocolate Chip Cookie anymore "healthy" though the 50/50 ratio of Walnuts to Dark Chocolate does make it less sweet and more compelling than most. read more

Mediocre drinks, unfriendly baristas, and 4% service charge included in the bill. All of the tables inside were also either covered in dishes or crumbs, so we didn't really want to sit anywhere. Unfortunately, even after a second visit, I still don't see what all the hype is about this place :( read more

Stopped by here on a Saturday morning to grab some dessert for later in the day. They were displaying the chocolate silk pie & I took that as a sign of what I should buy. It did not disappoint! The pie had a strong chocolate taste and wasn't overly sweet. I would definitely recommend. I also ordered a matcha latte with oat milk that I thoroughly enjoyed. I'll need to come by in the future to try more of their pastries. Come early because items sell out quickly! read more

Nice flaky croissants and buttery kouign amanns that safe me a trip driving to sf for a b patisserie experience. With soothing music in the background it is a great way to start your day. Cinnamon latte was smooth and frothy and a decafe espresso with 8 oz or 12 oz size options. Service was fast and efficient. Get those kouign amanns early. They sell out fast. 25 bucks for 4 items which is comparable to other bakeries for great pastries in the area. Parking available on street or lot behind the cafe. Love this coffee shop and Bakery! It's a perfect start to our Sunday with coffee and breakfast/brunch at this shop along with the fun Campbell downtown farmers market! Ambience is awesome, happy bustling and fun! Love their cappuccinos and avacado toasts!
