We had a simple order. The waiter misheard it -- no big deal, honest mistake. But when we calmly pointed it out, instead of fixing the issue professionally, the bartender decided to get nasty. Full-blown attitude. No apology. Just passive aggression that quickly escalated into full disrespect. Once I arrived I was advised to head upstairs to the dining waiting area. I arrived a bit early so I waited until my time was up and actually maybe a bit more like 15 minutes until ready which was a bit much but once seated it was great . John M. was my host for the evening and made sure my expectations were met on all ends . He was perfect . The atmosphere here is nice and calm . Very very low lighting so if you do not like this dining option I wouldn't recommend dinner . This is great for 2 or more . I don't think solo dinners here are good since super intimate unless you just don't mind . Food: was definitely yummy 10.10 for most items . They play some type of house music but I didn't even notice until I watched a video I recorded of the food. Food wise, the only thing I do not recommend is the octopus. Friendly, warm, direct, and you even get some welcome items on the house. Immediately upon sitting, we were welcomed with a free cocktail, a serving of caviar dip and chips, and the best bread and butter I've had in recent memory. Every table is candlelit. The vibes are absolutely immaculate. Lover Boy - light and delightful cocktail, not too sweet. Beef Tartare - so delicious, you get an entire cross-section of a crab leg with dollops of caviar. Salty and fresh! Beautiful appetizer Mushrooms - cruncy and acidic, a bit heavy on the cream sauce. Great side on its own, though if you are getting a heavy entree (e.g. steak with a topping), I would recommend a lighter side as the cream is definitely very heavy. It's delicious though! Might be better with fish or something lighter Spinach - textured, umami, delightfully crispy shallots. Has that OOMF factor. Loved it! NY Steak with Crab Oscar - delicious! I was on the fence on getting a topping but I'm so glad we went with the crab oscar. The creamy sauce and crab go well with the steak. I asked for medium rare, and they got it just right. If I had to choose 1 thing to nitpick with the steak, it would be that I wish there was better salt topping distribution - some corners got just a little salt, and others got a lot of salt. Otherwise, phenomonal dish! Highly recommend. Sundae Tower - my FAVORITE!! I absolutely loved this concept. This was actually the first time I made my own sundae, so it was a special memory for me. You get a Neopolitan ice cream base and a whole tower of toppings - chocolate/caramel sauce, oreos, peanuts, toffee brittle, whipped cream, cherries, sprinkles, bananas, anything you can think of. So much fun and so special! If you are visiting Maple & Ash, I would highly recommend trying Crab Oscar with your steak, and having fun with the Sundae Tower! This restaurant is great for celebrations. The atmosphere is very nice, with Christmas and winter decor. I would say Maple and Ash is pretty average for your basic "bougie" steakhouse. I find that it compares to any other expensive steakhouse. They give you a customized menu which is a nice souvenir. They first serve you with a complimentary cocktail and potato chips with some type on onion dip and caviar. They used to give you some bread rolls to start with but we don't receive it this time. I wouldn't get the tuna tartare again. It was fishy. It was not fresh. Our entrees were great. Lobster is juicy. It was cooked perfectly. The filet mignon was great. The ribeye and filet mignon has a great cooked crust to it and I'm sure it's because of their live wood fire which is what they are known for. The surf and turf came with mashed potatoes which was very rich and creamy. So rich I couldn't finish the small serving they gave! It also came with a light buttery tangy sauce for the lobster, and a very light tangy steak sauce. I find most steak sauces overwhelming with the tanginess, the one they served was perfection. You can ask for your steak pre cut if you'd like. We will be coming back for future celebrations! read more

This is a really solid place in the heart of the Gold Coast. They have a bunch of good cocktails and an extensive wine and liquor list. I am not a huge fan of oysters but enjoyed these. The agnolotti was ridiculously good. The potatoes are 3 parts butter to 1 part potatoes, so decadent! 1. Oysters with caviar and vodka shots 2. Seafood tower with oysters, muscles, crab, prawns in Calabrian chili oil - crab was the highlight 3. Handmade pasta and mix into the chili oil 4. Grilled Caesar salad 5. My wife and I each ordered cocktails that were very alcohol forward and really good. For appetizers we went with the charred Caesar salad. My wife really loved it and I thought it was good but didn't blow me away. We ordered the bone marrow band it was so decadent. The star of the show was the steak. I got the dry aged ribeye and new your strip. Both were cooked to a perfect medium rare. Pro tip order the Maple and Ash's Beefed up butter. This took the steaks from superb to out of this would. Their compound butter is mixed with tallow and beef dripping from all of their steaks... Good Gawwwwwwd! We also whipped potatoes and brussels *chefs kiss* to those potatoes. While the meal was pricey, the quality of the food and the service were worth it. I'd come back for their waygu experience and their seafood tower. The herb salad was very well done too. The entrees were solid but not as great as usual. We had the pro seafood tower but the tower came out kind of warm..not hot but warm.The Mac and cheese was warm and too salty. The other items were good The server was very nice but the overall service seemed slow and bit out of touch. Everyone seemed a bit frazzled and we didn't seem to get the usual energy and attentiveness. I always seemed to have to ask for things versus the service team asking what I need. They used to clear the crumbs off the table between courses. They also would bring the food hot and also bring the pasta service with the seafood tower proactively versus me asking if they will do the pasta with the seafood tower. This place is the place to be in Chicago. You're coming here for happy hour (first floor) or for their more upscale fine dining (upstairs). The ambiance is dark and very elegant, you definitely get the vide of sophisticated dining. The service is amazing, including the servers that are clearing your table. To start off the dinner, you are offered a complimentary cocktail and bread. Looking over the menu you have a variety of choices of courses. There are some very interesting specials (pricey), and then you have regular entrees. Keep in mind this menu is A La carte. The whole experience is wonderful, but it depends on what you want your experience to be. For me, I felt that this place isn't for me. For such an elegant expensive place, it shouldn't be so crowded. There were so many people in the restaurant that you didn't have your own personal space. People were constantly standing, and passing right over your table. Plus the noise level is extremely high, your server literally had to yell so you can hear them. To me this place is more of a high tier bar/lounge than an upscale restaurant. Filet mignon- cook perfectly could've used a touch more seasoning. But loved the contrast of the crispy edges and tender inside. Scallops- Enjoyed the flavor profile.
