I was pretty disappointed, and had pretty high expectations to start. My partner and I made some brunch reservations as our first time and were pumped to have a lot of high quality seafood. I love a welcome cocktail, that was a nice touch. Despite me mentioning my gluten-freeness, we were brought a little welcome bite of a quarter sized piece of bread with crème friache and caviar. Partner had one, didn't love it, bread was dry. Our chilled seafood tower was first, and I hate to say it, but it was kinda gross. Half of the king crab was overcooked and they do not offer warm butter either. The rest of it was just.. not fresh. Like "if I take another bite, I'll gag" not fresh. Prawns were discolored. Couldn't even stomach trying the sashimi. I'm not one to send things back, and at such a nice restaurant, usually a waiter would question why so much food is getting cleared early from a table. No one bat an eye, maybe they knew. Super disappointing. Then we waited like 20 minutes for our mains. The french omelette was okay, nothing crazy. I've certainly had better. It was close to the only GF option on the menu that wasn't steak. Even their sushi rice has gluten in it? Which is so strange, as it's not prepared that way traditionally, or even most of the time. I love sushi and I've never seen that. Just a weird way to make more of the menu not allergy friendly. Clearly, it was not a thought. My partner got the crab benedict and he enjoyed it enough. Our waitress was kind, but not attentive. It was kind of the theme, and at the end of it all I had only got to order one drink with our initial order, because she never came back until the bill. Food: delicious. The seafood tower during happy hour is so worth it. Definitely ask to get pasta added in. We also got the bone barrow and the NY strip steak with all were cooked to perfection. The fries are honestly some of the best fries I've had. The cocktail we tried was the Pillowtalk which was so good! During happy hour, they have martinis and house wines on the menu. If you don't love a very strong vodka or gin forward martini, don't get the martini. The house white was crisp and refreshing. Interior: super moody dark vibe that has a lot of comfortable seating. Service: service was great. Our waitress was great about checking in. The three stars is purely based on the fact that the man at the elevator did not let me in because of my platform sandals (they did not violate the dress code because they were not athletic sandles or flip flops). Thankfully my friend had an extra pair of flats which I had to wear in order to get upstairs - her flats were two sizes larger than my usual size. What really upset me was seeing other people in the restaurant wearing what were clearly open toed sandals that were similar to mine and a lot of white sneakers that could arguably be workout gym shoes. It just seems silly to me that I had to walk around in flats that were too large for me instead of my platform sandals. October is a big birthday month for our Fam, so for The Doctor's birthday his year, I wanted to take him to Maple and Ash for their I DON'T GIVE A F*@K brunch. As this was his and The Queen's first time here, I told him to think of it along the lines of if Charlie Trotter's (one of our favs) did brunch when we use to go. This is a true dining experience that I feel everyone should experience at least once a year. First let me start this review off with Maple and Ash is not cheap. It is expensive. That said, I feel you get your money's worth with the quality of food and service. Our server was Raymond, who has his own Instagram page (afloweringlapel) was so amazing! He alone would get five stars for this review, but there was of course the food and the champagne cart. The champagne brunch consist of a fire-roasted seafood tower, caviar service, endless champagne, an entrée from the menu, a cinnamon roll and for the table , filet mignon, maple glazed bacon (life giving bacon) and fried breakfast potatoes with fried rosemary, olive oil & parmesan all for $175 per person. Let me tell you when I say this is a great deal, it is. I can do that much in bubbles to cover the cost of food, but I got to eat as well. The filet was melting like butter in my mouth and we were brought a second helping of that and the bacon. For my entrée I got the Alaskan King Crab Eggs Benedict with avocado, poached eggs, arugula & hollandaise. I will say that a lot of places do not do a good hollandaise sauce, but this was on point. In fact everything we got was just on point as far as taste. In addition to the food off of the menu, there was an AYCE Sushi and pastry bar included. Both sushi and pastries were fresh and delish, with a nice variety of items to choose from. Our Sommelier, Jesse, made a point of keeping the bubbles flowing and also gave us a demonstration of how to open a bottle of bubbles using a sword. Most impressive as it did it in one stroke and we got the bottle and it's contents :-) Our server, Raymond, was just an absolute joy to have serving us and I will definitely request his area the next time we go. We're basic...girls... the entire dinner around the birthday menus. Each year we book a dinner to celebrate our four birthdays happening on the same week. The restaurant happily coordinated printing a menu for each of us and confirmed spellings ahead of time. Despite coming for the instas - the dinner itself was a masterclass! They provide you with a welcome drink and caviar/sour cream dip with chips to start. We ordered a variety of dishes from the fish to pasta and steaks. Each dish was as masterfully done! The steak and frites were cooked perfectly and the thin fries kept their crispiness. The lamb chops were cooked perfectly. You do have to order sides. We did the butter whipped potatoes which while a bit soupy were so creamy! The winter squashes were fantastic and offered a great variety of roasted veggies. The real winner was the Galician turbot which came out as unremarkable at first glance but was the best dish by far! It easily broke with just a fork and melted in your mouth. I was really looking forward to dining here due to all the great reviews I have read. Unfortunately, it didnt live up to the hype. We got the free crudite and I mentioned to the server that I was looking forward to the chips and sour cream dip. He stated that this changes through the season. Acceptable but was so disappointed to see them on our way out, sitting in the kitchen and it was only for the Bar (I was told). We are having a pre show dinner and decided to share our food. First - loved the recommended au gratin potatoes and chocolate cake dessert !!! The not so positive part - Ordered the bone in rib eye steak medium - came with no pink and no flavor at all... daughter stated that it almost taste like boil beef instead of broiled. I do understand that it was dry aged and all but just underwhelming. We also ordered the ala carte seafood and this is what we are most looking forward to. Love the presentation with candle in the bottom but that is all it is. I was hoping and expecting some robust flavors from the flavored oil that the seafood is sitting on, again nothing. Did we say anything to our server - No but he didnt really ask either as we are seated next to a large party of 9; It is understandable that his focus would be there, but he was very personable when it was our turn for attention. We ended up taking leftovers home when we would usually finish individual orders of each otherwise. I hope that this is an isolated experience but we would never know as we are not planning to come back. They play some type of house music but I didn't even notice until I watched a video I recorded of the food. Food wise, the only thing I do not recommend is the octopus. Immediately upon sitting, we were welcomed with a free cocktail, a serving of caviar dip and chips, and the best bread and butter I've had in recent memory. Every table is candlelit. The vibes are absolutely immaculate. Lover Boy - light and delightful cocktail, not too sweet. Beef Tartare - so delicious, you get an entire cross-section of a crab leg with dollops of caviar. Salty and fresh! Beautiful appetizer Mushrooms - cruncy and acidic, a bit heavy on the cream sauce. Great side on its own, though if you are getting a heavy entree (e.g. steak with a topping), I would recommend a lighter side as the cream is definitely very heavy. It's delicious though! Might be better with fish or something lighter Spinach - textured, umami, delightfully crispy shallots. Has that OOMF factor. Loved it! NY Steak with Crab Oscar - delicious! I was on the fence on getting a topping but I'm so glad we went with the crab oscar. The creamy sauce and crab go well with the steak. I asked for medium rare, and they got it just right. If I had to choose 1 thing to nitpick with the steak, it would be that I wish there was better salt topping distribution - some corners got just a little salt, and others got a lot of salt. Otherwise, phenomonal dish! Highly recommend. Sundae Tower - my FAVORITE!! I absolutely loved this concept. This was actually the first time I made my own sundae, so it was a special memory for me. You get a Neopolitan ice cream base and a whole tower of toppings - chocolate/caramel sauce, oreos, peanuts, toffee brittle, whipped cream, cherries, sprinkles, bananas, anything you can think of. Full-blown attitude. No apology. Just passive aggression that quickly escalated into full disrespect. And then -- no exaggeration -- we watched him shove the plate of food into the trash right in front of us. Not in the back, not discreetly. He made a show of it. That level of childish, spiteful behavior from a so-called high-end establishment is beyond unacceptable. Then our server brought us a small pre-cocktail that was so so good. We ended up ordering a bottle of wine as well. For our meal, we started with a chopped wedge salad. Started with the Baller Seafood tower, very good. For main, ordered steak frites and ribeye, au gratin, mac n cheese, and pillows of love - recommend them all. Fries were well done. The NY Strip was cooked to perfection, however 2 orders of ribeye were tough to cut and chewy. Ice Cream Sunday bar to end the meal. Bill came and got an unwelcome surprise by the automatic "Employee Benefits" surcharge. To have this at an up-scale restaurant, where margins are astronomical, and to imply the customer will automatically agree to this is presumptuous and frankly stained an amazing experience. This restaurant is great for celebrations. The atmosphere is very nice, with Christmas and winter decor. I would say Maple and Ash is pretty average for your basic "bougie" steakhouse. I find that it compares to any other expensive steakhouse. They give you a customized menu which is a nice souvenir. They first serve you with a complimentary cocktail and potato chips with some type on onion dip and caviar. They used to give you some bread rolls to start with but we don't receive it this time. I wouldn't get the tuna tartare again. It was fishy. It was not fresh. Our entrees were great. Lobster is juicy. It was cooked perfectly. The filet mignon was great. The ribeye and filet mignon has a great cooked crust to it and I'm sure it's because of their live wood fire which is what they are known for. The surf and turf came with mashed potatoes which was very rich and creamy. So rich I couldn't finish the small serving they gave! It also came with a light buttery tangy sauce for the lobster, and a very light tangy steak sauce. I find most steak sauces overwhelming with the tanginess, the one they served was perfection. A fun start to the meal. We ordered several cocktails and all were excellent. My partner tried the IDGAF old fashioned for $75 and loved it. The tasting menu was plenty of food and we enjoyed it! I am not a huge fan of oysters but enjoyed these. The agnolotti was ridiculously good. The potatoes are 3 parts butter to 1 part potatoes, so decadent! 1. Oysters with caviar and vodka shots 2. Seafood tower with oysters, muscles, crab, prawns in Calabrian chili oil - crab was the highlight 3. Handmade pasta and mix into the chili oil 4. Grilled Caesar salad 5.
