First and last time we will ever dine here. Our server, Maxwell was extremely pushy and rude. Our reservation was at 4:45 and within the first 20 minutes of us being there he mentioned twice that we have a two hour time limit. He kept hovering and rushing us when we already had appetizers and two rounds of drinks ordered by 5:15 (30 minutes of our reservation). When he again mentioned it when we had not decided on entrees yet, I told him that he has been extremely rude and making us feel rushed when we have not even been there for 30 minutes. Maple & Ash gets a solid A + from me. The ambience is perfect for a romantic date. Dark and intimate, if you want to wow someone with a romantic time, start here. The service is fantastic. Attentive and they know their menu inside and out. My hubs and I ordered the octopus appetizer - so yummy. I could've taken a bath in the sauce they served it in. Next up were the main entrees. I ordered the swordfish and my husband ordered the ribeye. The ribeye was truly a piece of art - you haven't had a piece of meat until you've tried the ribeye at Maple & Ash. As an FYI, the entrees don't come with "sides" in the traditional sense. BUT they do offer shareable sides - we got the Mac and cheese which was so rich and yummy. We ended up needing a box. Lastly, we indulged in dessert because you don't come to a place like this and *not* try every course. If you're looking for something shareable, I recommend the chocolate cake. We did see the "sundae bar" - they give you a tower of every ice cream topping you could ever dream of. Next time!! Eb!!! Our waitress was Eb and she was wonderful~! We shared that we also work in the restaurant industry and she immediately made us feel like family. Even before we shared that the service was outstanding! The food was also amazing, we ordered the dry aged ribeye cooked medium rare+ and it was a perfect cook. Perfectly tender and the table-made butter was incredible. The chimichurri is also delicious and fresh tasting. The meatball appetizer is so good, perfectly moist. The pillows of love pasta was also wonderful you MUST get it! It's more of a side for dinner than an entree, I wish it was a bigger serving! The Mac n cheese was a little mediocre; au gratin potatoes amazing. The tower hour deal is also an amazing value and the chili oil is so tasty. I wish there was more shrimp though the price is very fair. The drinks were also incredible and came out quickly every time. The ambiance is modern and cozy. The only negatives is that charge going to the employees benefits. In my opinion instead of taking money from consumers, businesses should reduce profits and pay their employees directly. It's a greedy practice to make it seem like they care about their workers and yet only pay them and give benefits through customers in order to maximize profit. We were just in Scottsdale for my daughter's birthday and this was one of the restaurants we chose to go to. Atmosphere 10/10, service 10/10, food 9/10. If you are trying to plan something special for a loved one's birthday then this is a great place! I let them know ahead of time that we were celebrating my daughter's birthday and they had a menu personalized with her name on it which was a nice touch and start to a fun experience for her. My wife and I do eat out a lot and believe we have pretty good taste and judgement. We have heard about the hype of Maple & Ash in Scottsdale and it took a lot of effort to get in. The only reservation we were able to get was 5:45. I will say there were many tables still open all the way until we left at 07:30, so didn't understand the lack of late table availability. We asked which oysters they had and the it was Kumamoto's - one of our fav's!! We were there on a Tuesday evening and were unimpressed with the freshness of the oysters. I then ordered a rib eye steak and was more disappointed. It seemed more like a NY or Sirloin vs a tender and juicy rib eye. On top of that, they claim the Maple Ash they use gives the meat a intriguing flavor, and we did not think it was intriguing and actually felt we were not eating a Prime Steak at all. My wife had the Sea bass and felt as if it was a piece of white fish?!?!?! I will say that the wait staff was very attentive and did a good job, but overall, we will not be going back and at less or equal to prices, will continue to patronize our favorite Dominick's where the oysters and fish are fresh every time and the beef is awesome!!! read more

I I have gone back and forth between leaving a review. The first time I went here was terrific with Dylan our sever, but I have gone back since then, and it has been hit or miss. I went here in January for a birthday after I hyped up the restaurant; mid service. It took almost 30 minutes to get our server, and then our appetizer came out before our drinks, and there was no birthday candle on the dessert. The birthday menu came at the start of service, leaving us with a cramped menu at our small table for the whole night. Overall, I am VERY disappointed with the service. I tried to get a reservation at the Chicago location and it was booked, so I was really excited when a location opened in Scottsdale. I was underwhelmed by the service and the food. Service - Wait staff basically take your orders and bring your food. They never just checked in and they were slow to remove empty plates and didn't refill drinks or ask if we wanted additional drinks. Even after asking for a refill, it was a wait. Ambiance - We were seated in a booth facing the bar. Not ideal. I would have preferred seating in the main dining area. Food - Surf and turf was meh! My petite filet was supposed to be medium rare. It was dry on the outside and had different temperatures on the inside ranging from too red to medium. The consistency of the lobster was mushy (didn't taste fresh), and the potatoes were the consistency of baby food and was probably 1/2 butter! The asparagus was okay. My friend liked her the short rib pasta. I frequent a lot of steak houses in the metro area, and M&A unfortunately falls a short. I won't be back. read more

Saw this in another review but place should be called maple and trash - I've dined here 4 times in the last two months and each time have the same terrible experience. Who wants a table side amuse of 'effin vodka with sour mix awkwardly shaken table side while the server tries to explain how the place "doesn't give a F%#£" - also get a better alcohol sponsor...effin vodka - trash Steak was also trash - crusty, not juicy, tough, not tender, straight to the garbage can it should go. Also the candles and candle stick holder things that look like left over props from a high school drama clubs prop basket from beauty and the beast - those can go straight in the trash as well. Don't get me started on this trash lighting element they have in the "main dinning room" to accent the candles - if I wanted to go blind I would just look at into the sun...actually going to do that now and maybe with my loss of sight their seafood platter will actually taste better. Holy Cow! I pulled out the pocket book for this one and it was worth every penny. My son turned 21 during the pandemic so we had to celebrate a year later and he picked this place. HIs birthday is on 12/24 so we had to sneak into M&A a tad earlier and reservations are absolutely a must for dinner - especially during a holiday!. What a TREAT this restaurant is! The decor..the service...the wine...the seafood tower...the complementary side dish. Dinner was super fancy with candles and we were all dressed up. It was enchanting. Oh I was melting from the good food and the attention. A fancy welcome drink and they spoiled my son rotten surrounding him with service. My parents (who are older) were equally enchanted by the attention they received. Example - my Mom wanted her own bread becuase we ate the bread too quickly for her, and they brought her own little portion that she didn't have to share. It was adorable. HONESTLY the best restaurant and fun ambiance ever. It was not inexpensive, but so save up for this event (brunch is a tad better), but we all had a little box to take home and the memory was priceless. PLEASE go there. PLEASE take a bestie. The experience at Maple & Ash was amazing! I call it an experience because it was more than just a restaurant. The outside is inviting and inside is gorgeous with their dark lite ambiance. You will definitely want to dress nice for this dinner, but not formal. We were there on 1/10 for my birthday dinner and Michael was an amazing server. He provided accurate and delicious recommendations and was quick to anticipate your needs. For dinner, we chose the IDGAF*@k menu. Worth every penny!! If you are a foodie, or your boyfriend is, this is an experience. Highly recommend and would chose this again! I was hesitant because I'm not a huge seafood fan but WOW... I just need the seafood cooked right and I've learned I will like it. One of the five courses was the fire roasted sea food tower. Heaven in your mouth! Lobster and shrimp was my favorite jam packed with flavor. The best part about this second course was the 2.5 course they call the "pasta back" where they come by and put spiral pasta in the delicious leftover juices/sauces from the seafood tower. Honestly, best part of the entire meal!!! I'm craving more of this as I type this. Third course was the wedge salad and vinegary tuna dish. The bacon on the salad was jam packed with flavor and was the best bacon I have ever had. Wish I had a full order of this!! The salad was good but I wouldn't order again just because it's not my type of salad. But still a really good wedge salad and the presentation was spectacular. For the main course we had a deliciously cooked T-bone steak, very creamy potatoes, and asparagus. The steak was a perfect medium rare, potatoes were delightful, and asparagus were good and crunchy (I prefer steamed and soft asparagus). They also served us a side of the beefed up butter ... again worth every penny!!! To end the five course meal we were surprised with the sundae tower. AMAZING ice cream (not normally a huge ice cream fan) the toasted coconut was pretty epic! And the house-made chocolate syrup and peanut butter were mmm mmm good! Ate dinner here a few days back. There were 5 of us and there was a large selection of food types, so I got a good idea about their offerings and presentations. In general, this is a place that you go if some else is paying. It is uber expensive. The typical types of people I saw we either dates trying to impress one another, business, or those who do not care about their tab. The food has some excellent items and other mediocre ones. I had the sirloin steak. It was very good- but not $56 good- remember another 8% tax + 20% tip - so $72. It came with NOTHING- just a steak on a plate. I would say it is comparable to the Trader Joe's sirloin since I make all the time. They brought us a starter drink, cosmo (vodka + grape fruit juice). There was a lady in the party who was having a birthday so they also brought us a round of tequila's on the house. They also printed her name on a menu and that was really cool. Generally, I am ok with higher priced restaurants that provide over the top experience. This was unfortunately not one of them. presentation: 4 - better on the salads and appetizers. I just ate at Chapeau in San Francisco a few earlier and they presented their steak significantly better. aroma: 5 - smelled pretty good quality: 5 - very nice piece of steak - although the sides were salty and too much butter quantity: 2 - small for the price, the sides were highly over priced. Again, I have dinged a few restaurants for their smaller portions. I had to eat 4 slices of break to feel full. I got one side and there were 3 additional sides that we shared. taste: 4 - it tasted very good, but again comparing a steak house like Town in San Carlos CA, it was sub par. Too much butter, salt and the food did not have crisp tastes coming out. For example, I got the mushroom Risotto at Chapeau and the mushroom was an artistic presentation, the mushrooms here were an after thought. wine: 1 - what a joke. The waiter kept on praising their sommelier. She was clue less. I also fell out of my chair when I saw the wine prices. 3-4x the price of what you get at Costco is reasonable. Let me take an example, I just bought a few bottles of Opus One at for $90 at Costco. Theirs was if I recall $650. We had a lower end wine for $165 and it was just ok- it should have been more like $75. Another one I looked at was their Joseph Phelps. That is another $80-100 wine and it was $400 if I recall correctly. The wine was exorbitantly expensive. No Silver Oaks, no Harlan, .... service 5/2 - our main server was outstanding, but gee it was difficult to get some additional water or bread. Lots of people coming and going - but no help. parking 2: had to park in the mall and walk a ways atmosphere: 5 - very nice atmosphere. Candles, fine china, great setup, dessert: X - no one had desert health: 3 - The steak is a steak, but the sides were very heavy on butter and salt value: 1 - the wine brought the value down by 2 points. Their steak was smaller and less than for example, Town in San Carlos CA, with no support, but not that exorbitant. I dinged Chapeau for their size and this certainly would lose a point for size When I win the lottery, I might be back. read more

But when it comes to the main course, both my husband and I had the aged Ribeye and we agree that it was hands down the worst steak we have ever had in our life. We were both baffled by how much hype this place gets, genuinely baffled. Very rubbery, if McDonalds made a steak it would be better. So, after waiting several weeks for our reservation to finally come up, we were able to experience all that Maple & Ash has to offer for brunch. First impression - Our first encounter was with the young hostess that began to tell us that she "fears for her life every day when she comes to work" due to Covid. Probably NOT the first impression you want your patrons to have of your establishment. It kind of implies that your place isn't sanitary... On to the service - our servers started out super attentive and on point, but as the meal carried on, our service began to fall apart. Our waters were empty and we needed to ask for refills or drink orders. The food - the REAL reason for the 4:5 stars... the meal was absolutely amazing. You can't beat limitless filet and thick cut bacon as sides with your brunch. The food was ALL amazing. We were all very happy with the portion sizes, seasoning, and presentation of the meal. The ambiance - okay, this place on a Sunday brunch is NOT going to be a quiet or romantic spot. There is a lot of hooping and hollering with every champagne bottle that was sabered during our meal. Yes, fun, but MUCH more appropriate for the millennial crowd than a bunch of Gen X-ers looking for a classy meal spot with a dress code. The people watching is ON POINT here. Not too sure if that's a "win", but it is what it is. In summary, if it wasn't for the food, I'd give this two stars. The food saved the review. The napkins smelled like they were inundated with canola oil. The Caesar Salad although tasty was warm and mushy. The ribeye was not prime quality or 16 oz as the Server indicated. It was also overcooked. The rack of lamb was bland. Zero flavor and no seasonings. The cream corn tasted awful. And their signature coconut pie had a nice presentation but tasted like grocery store bought. Also, had a bottle of Turley Zin which tasted like water which was not on them but didn't add to the experience. $750 for 4 of us later was certainly not worth it in the least. read more

Went here for a drug dinner last night. I have been to many drug dinners at fancy steak and seafood restaurants around the valley, and this one was probably my worst experience food and service wise. It was not a traditional dining experience as we had a set menu, but I can still comment on the food and service. Food was a 4 out of 5 overall. I ordered the roasted salmon, asparagus, and mashed potatoes. The salmon was nothing special, it was cooked wonderfully but did not have much flavor/seasonings at all. The asparagus was BOMB and the sauces/macadamia nuts on it were delicious! The mashed potatoes were weird - the consistency was almost like grits and they had a large layer of melted butter floating on top. The taste was fine but I could feel myself gaining 10 pounds instantly while eating them. Service was a 2/5. The timing of our plates arriving was bizarre. We waited a long time in between plates arriving. The main dish came out 5-7 minutes before the sides, so I was done with my salmon before they even arrived! Waited what felt like 15 minutes for dessert to arrive. I probably won't be back. read more
