We had a Groupon for an ice cream cake. The employee who waited on us was super nice. We also ordered ice cream while we were there. I felt like my cup was quite full but the cookie dough was just so so. Kind of lacked flavor and it got so chopped up when mixed in that it was more like cookie dust minus a few chunks. I ended up throwing it away not because it was bad, but because it wasn't good enough to be worth all the calories. My boyfriend ordered the Bananas Foster-style ice cream with chunks of fresh banana and it was AMAZING. His ice cream cake was fine. read more

I bought the groupon for here on 6/16/11, but ended up canceling it a week later. They were trying to be sneaky about the whole thing. First I was told they were out the day I wanted to pick it up. Then I was told I could order one but they needed 4 days notice. When I went in to place an order I was told if I wanted the size cake that was in the groupon deal I had to pay $4 more. And the girl behind the counter was rude and could care less if I was happy or not. When I was leaving I heard her tell her boss, "Oh she didn't really know what she wanted". Liar! It's official: this place sucks! It's not the ice cream. Since it comes pre-made, they can't screw it up. My problem with this place is they are always so friggin' grumpy!!! I've never had ANYONE smile at me when I've come in the door. In fact, this last time, no one even came out of the back when I stood at the counter for 5 minutes. I bought the Groupon for a 8" ice cream cake from Marble Slab Creamery in Austin, TX, 06/16/11. The picture of the cake in the ad was misleading. The ad itself was misleading. In addition, even the discussion session was not 'real'. It is just 'tricky', 'funny', and 'dishonest'. 1. The cake in the picture is not the one you will get for $11 unless you pay $6 extra. However, this was not mentioned anywhere in the ad. 2. About the flavors, the ad said "...Craft a custom eight-inch ice-cream cake by choosing from Marble Slab's original ice cream flavors, including banana-rum, black walnut, bubblegum, mango, and amaretto (flavors may vary by location)..." . When I was there yesterday, they told me only three flavors (strawberry, vanilla, and chocolate) I could choose from. (BTW, the statement "flavors may vary by location" doesn't apply in here, since this deal only applied to nowhere but the location at 14010 US North Hwy. 183, Austin.) 3. I went there yesterday to pick up the cake; they didn't have cake available. They didn't apologize but told me I had to order it ahead of time (48 hours). It sounded like I should know it; otherwise, it would be my fault. Again, their ad didn't mention this at all. 4. The funniest thing among all was the discussion in Groupon. The first person 'I-Chung C' asked the question "is the a nationwide deal or just in Austin?" I bit I am the only one with the name 'I-Chung C' in Austin, TX (or in the States). I didn't join the discussion at all. There must be somebody else pretending me asks this question. But why? I don't want to cancel this order, since this shouldn't be an individual case. Everyone (1200 customers) in this deal should have the same problem. I should turn this case to local BBB for investigation. read more

Yesterday was my birthday and I tried to go in and redeem the $5 birthday rewards points they gave me. I didn't really feel like ice cream, but, hey, it was gonna be free and it was my birthday, so why not? Lo and behold, they did not have a tablet at this location to read my coupon code (said they should be getting it in a few weeks...) and I had to pay for it instead and cone back another time to redeem. A little disappointing. I feel fatter AND poorer when I didn't really want it in the first place. Bad life choice on my part. read more

If I could leave 0 stars I would. I would leave negative stars if I could. This place is a JOKE. I ordered an ice cream cake for my sons 18th bday. Kind of a big deal, ya? What I ordered, or thought I ordered, and what I received was nothing less than absurd. The pictures online are amazing, of course. What I received for my $40 ? I should've saved the $ and made my own cake. I will NEVER EVER even go into this place again. Complete rip off!!!! I paid extra for chocolate sprinkles on the side of the cake. There are none. I paid extra for fudge and caramel drizzle. You call this drizzle?? The size of this cake is shorter than a standard one box bundt cake pan...and this cake has cake AND ice cream in it??? Not done yet! The vanilla ice cream center is supposed to be filled with twix bars and fudge and caramel. They did what Maggie Moo's couldn't. They provided great ice cream in a clean and comfortable store with a friendly staff. Quarts to go are worth every penny. Also the location next to Texadelphia doesn't hurt. Only knocked one star because they needed another person behind the counter due to the popularity today. The staff still worked with a smile. I really enjoy the ice cream here. Mr. Kirit Patel is always friendly and is generous with the portions. The ice cream tastes quite good and doesn't have a load of chemicals accompanying the goodness. I've been to this MSC location many times and have always been pleased. read more

When they say they close at 10:00 they actually mean 9:50. We walked in the door at 9:59 and the place was completely cleaned up for the night, ice cream removed from the case, chairs stacked up. I'm sure the owner of this location would be thrilled to know that the staff is more worries about getting out of the place "on time" as opposed to making money. First time here. I will have to say that for me tasting the ice cream here us definitely more rich than other competitors. A bit over priced but well worth for regular scoop on a cup. I got the red velvet cake and it was very good. Great staff and friendly atmosphere. Overall..i feel satisfied. Dont come this way often but if i ever crave ice cream and im around here i will definitely stop by again! read more

I love Marble Slab Creamery. There icecream is so good. BUT I am hesitant to eat here because it's extremely disgusting. Nothing is ever clean. The tables are sticky and the bathrooms are so unsanitary and I dont understand why they haven't been cleaning it. If their store is so gross I can only imagine what it's like were they make the ice cream. read more

I also had this same problem with the Groupon for the cake. Listen here, ladies and gents, this "deal" is a classic BAIT AND SWITCH! The Groupon says on it "good for an eight inch ice cream cake." When I got to the shop to get the cake, the shop girl told me that I had 3 options: strawberries and cream, swiss chocolate or oreo. I made my selection and she tried to give me a six inch mini cake. I protested that the Groupon clearly says good for an eight inch cake(which is a great deal larger). She gave me the classic shrug. I asked to speak to the manager. She called him and after arguing with him for several minutes, I realized that he was going to do absolutely nothing to remedy the situation. I will be getting a refund from Groupon and will never, ever be visiting this location again. I highly recommend the other 1,199 people that bought this deal do the same! read more

I attempted to redeam my Living Social voucher last Friday ( January 18th ) on the day it expired at Marble Slab Creamery off 183. My whole experience was an AWFUL. The employee that was working very sweaty and stressed out. At one point she answered the phone and was yelling at the caller about not mopping the store floor. In addition to that they did not have the Quarts of Pre-Packed Ice Cream at all. ( the deal was for 2 quarts ) I was told that they could not even pack a quart for me that day. I was told to give her my flavors I wanted and I could come back and pick it up in a week. She mumbled something about this was the owners idea and if she gave me ice cream that day they would run out by Tuesday. I left a message to have the owner, Mr. Patal, call me to work the issue out. He called me about 4 times in a row on Saturday afternoon during lunch. ( within a 30 minute timeframe ) I returned his call and he was EXTREMELY rude and arguemenative. I explained to him that was not happy with having to drive all the way out to 183 and Lakeline mall again to pick up ice cream that should have been available per the deal he had with Living Social. He inturuped me and said " just give me the flavors you want and I'll have them ready in a few days " I attempted to give him the exact flavor that was on his website and he told me I could only pick one not a combonation of 2 ( peanut butter and chocolate ) After me explaining that he should make some special arrangement since I will have to come twice to get my deal honored. He finally agreed ( after arguing with me for at least 15 minutes ) and set up a time for me to pick up the ice cream a few days later. When I did pick it up it was loosly packed and not a full quart. I will NEVER EVER EVER do business with this place again. read more

Horrible customer service. Was refused service with a groupon (they claimed it had a start date, when it CLEARLY did not, and groupon confirmed this). I called to clear it up with the manager the next day and suggested I receive the larger cake option since I was wrongfully refused yesterday and then eventually hung up on. Luckily groupon has wonderful customer service and refunded me. This location should not be allowed to have groupons in the future. I have been here in the past, but after this service will never return. read more

I love Marble Slab but not happy with this location. Each time I go, the ice cream is too soft. The owner keeps the cooler temp to high and ice cream us too soft and melty. I will not return because this has happened the last two times we went. Otherwise, clean establishment. read more

I was next door getting my phone fixed and decided to stop in to grab a milkshake. I asked for a chocolate milkshake and throw in some snickers. The owner was training a new girl apparently because he turned to address her with "Let me show you how I like to make the milkshakes." Apparently the way he likes to make them is with 70% milk 29% ice cream and 1% snickers. I didn't think I would be able to drink the shake with the super thin cheap straw they put in the cup (which bent resulting in a hole in the straw). I figured the snickers chunks would get jammed but at the end of the drink it had no snickers pieces at all and was basically a thin chocolate milk. Okay, so a bad shake is one thing but after tax it was nearly $8? For a medium sized shake? I can tell they are trying to increase margins but it shouldn't be at the cost of the cost of ice cream. I know I can go to HEB and buy a half gallon of ice cream for less but you go to an ice cream parlor to treat yourself. I just felt totally ripped off, new managment or not I won't be back. read more

We visited Marble Slab Creamery tonight. We really felt like some ice cream after a great dinner at TLC. Upon entry we were greeted with a much too hot temperature, ceiling fans running on high and a strong smell of cleaning supplies. We proceeded in anyway. My son noticed the ice cream was 1/2 melted in the supposed refrigerated case. The woman at the counter looked very unhappy and abruptly asked what we wanted. We ordered our kids some ice cream and started to think about what we wanted. Suddenly my husband says "oh gosh, that's a big roach". We all proceeded to look up and noticed a cockroach the size of my thumb skitter over to their Now Serving sign. The woman proceeds to ask for the rest of our order! My husband says "uh yeah so do you want to..." I said we will all leave now and cancel the order. On our way out we passed a family sitting there eating their ice cream with looks of horror on their faces. Needless to say....we won't be back. So yesterday after work I went to the Marble Slab on 183 and Lakeline Mall Drive. They close at 9pm and I was there at 8:20. The girl who worked there and a guy who appeared to be her boyfriend both rolled their eyes at me as if I were burdening them. I asked if they were still open and she said yes but that it is time to clean up and shut things down. I even told her (because it was so obvious) that I could see the disappointment in her face when I came in. She said and I quote, "It's just that whenever I keep trying to wipe the glass (on one of the freezers) people keep coming in." Are you kidding me??? This irritated me because all I wanted was a kid size serving of sweet cream ice cream. I didn't ask for samples and it took me less than five minutes as I knew exactly what I wanted. Then on top of that, she was very stingy with the portion she gave me which was small enough as it was. Now I see why this place has such negative reviews. Will spend my hard earned dollars elsewhere! read more
