The service was very attentive and the servers were very familiar with the menu. The only negative was that we were constantly asked "another drink?" and our glasses of water were empty at times. This is my second time trying Marmos and they aren't too bad! I got the vodka penne pasta and the chicken Parmesan. Vodka pasta was delicious but the chicken parm (not shown here) wasn't the greatest. The chicken was kind of burnt and the pasta was too al dente. It was nothing special. Terrible service, made a reservation for my girlfriends birthday because she's been wanting to go for so long. We got sat then waited 10 minutes for someone to walk by and give us water, our server didn't even introduce himself or tell us his name he just asked if we wanted water or not. After waiting 10 minutes to get water we waited another 10 minutes before just deciding to get up and leave. We literally walked pasted our server and he looked at us without saying a word to us. It seems like a constant issue with this place seeing the reviews, unfortunately we had to deal with this experience as well. I had dinner at Marmo the past two nights and it was absolutely amazing. The experience was so good on night one that I had to come back again the next day. Lorenzo was the bartender serving me dinner last night and he is incredible. Super friendly, great energy, and always has amazing recommendations for things to do around Houston. If you go, definitely sit with Lorenzo at the bar. The food is on another level. The cowboy ribeye was extremely flavorful and cooked perfectly. The regular ribeye was exceptional as well. The mushroom risotto was phenomenal. The Brussels sprouts were delicious. The broccolini was actually really good. The toasted potatoes were absolutely phenomenal. The meatballs were really good too. I just wish they were a little softer, but the sauce they use on them is exceptional, so you can imagine how great the rest of the Italian dishes are. The vibe at Marmo is everything. On Saturday night they had a singer at the piano bar and she was phenomenal. She was singing R&B and Alicia Keys and it made the entire night perfect. The piano player is great too, but no vocals, so when she came on it completely elevated the room. Overall, this place is a 10 out of 10 for me. Five stars all the way. Whether you sit at a table or at the bar, you're going to have an amazing experience. I was in town for a business conference, but I will absolutely come back to Marmo any time I'm in Houston. First time visitors and we left satisfied. I somehow walked past Marmo a couple times without noticing it in the past and it wasn't until I saw an Instagram post about their happy hour that it was on my radar. But it looks like we couldn't wait for happy hour because we stopped by on Sunday for a very late dinner. The doors opened and we were greeted with some lovely jazzy piano music. The ambiance is a nice blend of modern and cozy with Edison style bulbs and marble counters mixed with warm rattan pendant lights and draped curtains. We had a nice table for two along the window curve. My lone gripe was that the restroom, gender neutral, was not clean but I'll blame that on whoever was in there before me. We loved our server Andre. He knew the menu forwards and backwards and provided exceptional service. I didn't realize Marmo was part of a Baltimore based restaurant group called Atlas, and their sister restaurants in Houston are Loch Bar and Azumi. We've tried Loch Bar but we'll have to put Azumi on the list! For drinks, we ordered a glass of cabernet and a cantare cocktail with a bottle of sparkling water. I was expecting the cantare's cantaloupe and honey to make it sweeter than it was, but it tasted more like a standard margarita and was served in a salt rimmed glass. Andre started us with squares of focaccia with a crumbled cheese before we decided on a half order of both spaghetti and squid ink campanelle as well as scallops and an off menu 6 oz skirt steak. The steak option we originally wanted was not available and I noticed that it isn't listed on the online menus either, although interestingly there is an 8 oz wagyu skirt steak on the online menu that is a lower price point than the 6 oz. Now onto what we're all here for: Blue crab squid ink campanelle with uni cream sauce ($28 half order)- 10/10. Elevated comfort food in the best way. The campanelle was fresh and perfectly al dente. The uni sauce was creamy and had the right amount of chili to give it a kick. The sprouts and toasted breadcrumbs on top provided some needed colors and texture respectively. I was surprised by the generous amount of blue crab meat and the half order was a substantial enough portion for one person. It was an excellent recommendation from Andre and our favorite dish! Spaghetti alla chitarra ($10 half order)- 7/10. The spaghetti had good texture and the flavors were simple and clean. It was a nice counter balance to the more complex flavor profile of the campanelle. Scallops with 'nduja, watermelon relish, corn puree, and semolina cracker ($42)- 9/10. There wasn't a sear on the scallops but they were tender and plentiful with four decently sized scallops in total. The overall taste of the dish was refreshingly sweet and slightly savory and salty. The watermelon relish and corn puree added sweetness and very nice variations in texture. I couldn't tell you with certainty where the 'nduja pork sausage was in the dish but I'm guessing it was in the spread under the scallops. Regardless, it didn't have a strong flavor and let the scallops be the main attraction. Does anyone remember the scene in Ratatouille when the critic takes a bite of ratatouille and is instantly transported to a memory of a different place? These scallops did that for me. It would've been a 10 if they had a sear. 6 oz mystery skirt steak (~$55)- 6/10. Our mystery meat was our least favorite dish of the night. It had nice marbling and was served a la carte save for a roasted garlic bulb and half lemon. It was by no means bad, but the campanelle set a high bar, and we ultimately thought the skirt steak was underwhelming for the price point. I absolutely would come back to Marmo for dinner. The only question would be whether I'm ordering the campenelle and scallops again or branching out to try something new. Stopped in to celebrate my Fiancée's promotion while we were back home for a friend's engagement. He is very particular about his steak and he was so impressed with the flavor, the tenderness! He got a side of the great Smashed potatoes with truffle and herbs. Adding some sour cream was the icing on the cake ! I end up ordering from their Easter weekend menu, the Short Rib dish. I can't even express how great it was! They actually stay open pretty late. An if you haven't noticed I love live music so them having a live pianist in the front room was nice. Our lovely server helped us celebrate with a glass of champagne to finish our night as we were wayyy too stuffed for dessert. Marmo has come up a few times as a go-to happy hour spot. While parking can definitely be a headache, the space itself makes up for it. I loved the woodsy, rustic, upscale design. It feels intentional and polished without being stuffy. I went on a Sunday for happy hour and was surprised by how small the dishes were, but I can't lie--everything was incredibly tasty. I tried the Caesar salad, which had a light lemon undertone, the Bolognese, which was meaty, creamy, and had just the right amount of tomato, and the Tuscan fried chicken. The garlic aioli was the standout there, and the artichoke that came with it was a nice touch. Everything tasted super fresh. For drinks, I had the Four Roses bourbon over ice, and it definitely packed a punch. No chaser needed. I also tried the Olmeca tequila, which was extra strong--definitely one for people who really like tequila. Even though the bar wasn't crowded at first, there was only one bartender, which made it a little hard to flag someone down when I was ready to close out. That aside, I'd absolutely return to try Marmo's dinner menu. I can see why folks recommend their happy hour. I am especially fond of the special menus for holidays i.e...Valentine's Day, Mothers Day, etc. Besides amazing food the decor is plush, yet comfortable. Overall, this place is really cute. Dropped in for happy hour which they offer happy hour every day 3 to 6 PM bar or patio. Their portions for happy hour are very tiny, which is fine since I'm one person. The Tuscan fried chicken was fine. The batter was very crispy, but it was also soggy at the same time. Also, it came out cold. I think the chicken might be dark meat at least what I had and I hate dark meat, which probably took away from my experience. The polenta fries have a unique texture so don't expect it to taste like a french fry. They were also pretty good but again not hot when they came out. So apparently the menu changes occasionally so I initially ordered the Pannacotta however, when it came out, it was slathered with blueberries on top. I don't like blueberries, and I didn't know it was going to come with them. I just went on pictures that I saw online. I did send it back, but they did say they could remove the blueberry and once they did, I cleaned my entire plate. It was so delicious. read more

I came here for dinner on a Saturday night with a reservation. It was loud, but still possible to have conversation, so that was a plus. I think having a live pianist helps! We had the squid ink Campanelle to start, followed by the ribeye with a side of broccolini. We enjoyed everything! The pasta didn't have a pronounced flavor from the squid ink, so it was more aesthetic. The ribeye came out sliced with a half lemon and pod of roasted garlic. We squeezed both over the steak and it was a really nice accompaniment. The broccolini was still slightly crisp and had a thin layer of chopped pepper and onions below it along with sliced garlic on top, which really enhanced the flavor. I ordered the Polpette (classic meatballs, tomato sauce, whipped ricotta) and Rigatoni alla vodka (tomato cream sauce, parmigiano reggiano) - a full meal for only $5 each! While I loved the interior and happy hour deals Marmo offers, the food was too salty and overall unimpressive. While the ambience and service were absolutely excellent, the food was, unfortunately, a huge disappointment, probably the worst we've had in a very long time. We couldn't even finish it, nor did we want to take it home, which was such a shame because the restaurant itself is stunning. It happened to be my husband's birthday, and we even declined their birthday dessert. In all these years, I've only written maybe two or three negative reviews, and this had to be one of them and this tops them all. I decided to stop in today to see how I felt about the happy hour before trying the restaurant month menu. Let's talk location. This plaza is located in an area there is limited street parking. When I arrived I was greeted and seated immediately. I had a very sweet server name Ace who was attentive and offered menu item suggestions. The ambiance was so cute inside and outside. Now the reason they received three stars was because of the food. So I ordered the Tuscan Fried chicken which was as bland and had no flavor. I also ordered the happy hour spaghetti and the rigatoni. The portions are small enough to feed a toddler. My friend ordered some shrimp and it was only two shrimp on the place. All of the food was flavorless which made me to decide not to try the restaurant month menu. Overall great location, great service, and worth popping in for a drink. The server, Jimmy (I believe), was professional, fun, engaging, and the carrier of the hospitality and joy of the meal and experience. Finally came back for a second visit and Marmo was just as good as I remembered! The atmosphere in the restaurant is so nice, with live piano music and the friendliest staff around. We were a large party and our servers took such great care of us, always checking in to make sure the meal was going perfectly. I said it in my last review and I'll say it again, any restaurant with complimentary bread and cheese is a star in my book haha My roommate and I went halfsies on a couple of appetizers and three of the half orders of pasta. Everything was amaaaaazing, we left stuffed and with a box of leftovers in hand! I genuinely can't pick a favorite because everything tasted so incredible, so I will just recommend every dish we got: polpette - meatballs, Tuscan fried chicken, bolognese, prosciutto tortellini, and the squid ink campanelle. When being escorted to the table we were asked to fold up the stroller which we didn't have a problem with. When asked if they had somewhere to store the stroller since it was asked of us collapse it we were told no so we made due with our surroundings. They also had their craft of waters place behind our booth where the waiters kept coming and basically hovered over our table everytime water was needed. Presumably an Italian type restaurant. Horrible place with so much noise it is impossible to carry a conversation. Food is not really Italian. Instead of real bred, they serve little peaces of sponge cake. They serve you the pastas with the Parmesan cheese already spread, instead of giving you a plate and let you serve (or not serve) the cheese with a spoon. Food is of mediocre quality. Complaining to the manager, he says "I am just the manager, there is so much I can do, only the owners could improve things". It was not a good feeling to think of the reason why we could have been ignored. But, the issue was raised, and the restaurant attempted to make it right. The location is super walkable, and there are many other restaurants with an ice cream place only a couple yards away. The happy hour menu changes every couple of months or so. My partner and I got their $2 oysters, Rigatoni alla Vodka, Tuscan fried chicken, and white fish rillettes. All of the food is well seasoned, and the white fish rillettes are surprisingly my favorite dish. There was also live music, but sadly, the acoustics made the piano too loud, and I could not hear the performer despite sitting next to him. The service was excellent of course. Absolutely loved Marmo! After hearing rave reviews about their pasta, we knew we had to come check this place out. The interior is nicely decorated, a little bit modern and a little bit rustic with a little bit of a chic style. The staff were all incredibly friendly and attentive. My husband and I brought the two kids here for Mother's Day with a reservation beforehand. We ended up ordering way more than we could stomach, but we always somehow use the kids as an excuse to order more (even though only one eats right now and he usually eats enough food to fit inside my fist). For starters, we ordered the calamari, meatballs and carrot salad. The calamari was sautéed, not fried, in a nice tomato based sauce with couscous and capers. I personally could have done without the capers, but the squid was cooked perfectly, leaving a nice chewy bite. The softness of the couscous paired well and the flavors blended nicely. The meatballs were delicious. Each serving comes with 3 giant balls and a small slide of toast with cheese. The meatballs were extremely flavorful and the tomato sauce with cheese were the perfect compliments. Highly recommend this appetizer to share. The carrot salad was refreshing and nothing like I've really tasted. The carrots were both earthy (without tasting like dirt) and sweet at the same time. The cheese paired with it added a nice balance. I would get this again. For entrees, we did half orders of the Squid Ink Campanelle, the Bolognese and the Ricotta Gnocchi. All 3 were delectable but my favorite was the gnocchi. The white sauce on the gnocchi was rich, the gnocchi itself was dense and cheesy, and the rabbit was delightfully flavorful, not gamey at all. The campanelle was amazing as well. Like the gnocchi, the campanelle gave very generous portions of crab meat. This was my husband's favorite. Our toddler really enjoyed his bolognese and I snuck a few bites too - it was good but the least impressive out of the 3. Overall, we really enjoyed the food, service and ambiance here. I would highly recommend it and then top off with dessert at Van Leeuwen or La La Land next door! I will definitely be back to try the risotto next time. read more
