Had dinner here to celebrate our first wedding anniversary. We had been sitting for 40 minutes before cocktails arrived, which was irritating, and server didn't take our orders for about 15 minutes. Had the service been faster, I'd have given them 5 stars. The food tasted and looked incredible, and the attention paid to us during dinner was quite satisfactory. My water glass was kept full, which I always appreciate. Another disappointment was that we didn't get seated on the patio, overlooking the ocean...but then I suppose I should've specifically requested it (since the resort already knew it was our anniversary). The view is fantastic on the patio and the service was excellent, so why the two star rating? The portions of food are ridiculously small, the smoked trout salad was incredibly small. How hard it to add a little more lettuce so you can have a filling salad. The John Dory fish dinner was a joke, they described a side of vegetables but it was a spoonful of onions and cilantro and the Fish was a few bites at best. This would be disappointing as an appetizer as a dinner it's just pathetic. I don't mind paring for an elegant dinner, but when I leave hungry they get a two star rating. read more

Just. Plain. Wow. When my friend and I get together for our once-a-month dinner-date, we love to spend about 4 hours on the experience. We have been to many restaurants in the South Bay but this was far and away the best. Now, there is a price to pay for that, but for us, the experience was well worth the expense. At first I was a little intimidated, not being used to such a fancy place. However, the staff set us at ease, and ultimately, I had never felt so special, so attended, as I did that night. A large part of that was due to our waiter, Jeffrey. He was simply amazing. We communicated early on that we like to linger over dinner and he saw to it that we were given the experience we desired. He was magically there when we needed him, but didn't hover or ask us a thousand times if everything was okay. He is truly a professional. The type of waiter one sees in Paris but with a lot more charm. And when two courses were brought out a bit too close together, he realized the error, although it wasn't a deal breaker, and comped us each a glass of the wine we had been talking about. Oh, and the food was pretty darned good, too. Our budget prevents us from going back monthly, but we are happily saving up to spend another great night at Mar'Sel, hopefully in Jeffrey's excellent care. Tip: Dress up a bit. Had a fantastic dinner here on Friday night. The setting is incredible, we sat outside and had a view over looking the Pacific ocean. The service from Sophia was also excellent. She was very attentive and offered great recommendations. We started with the smoked octopus and the black bass with black truffle sauce. The bass was actually an entree but we shared it with the table (4 of us). It was cooked to perfection and the sauce was to die for. For our entree we chose the red snapper cooked with a salt crust and served with coconut jasmine rice. Four of us went for a birthday dinner last weekend. We had already finished appetizers in the lobby bar at Terrenea, so we went straight for the entrees. We ordered the Tomahawk pork chop, Lobster, Branzino, and Surf and Turf special (filet and scallops.) I personally had the pork chop and it was so delicious - perfectly cooked with an amazing sauce on top. The cheddar spoon bread that came with it sounded like it should be good but it was pretty flavorless. The lobster and surf and turf were both enjoyed. The Branzino was very average. I don't recommend that one. It was also overcooked. The service was very attentive. The ambience was also nice. We did not order dessert as we were going to another party afterwards that was going to serve dessert. I highly recommend Mar'sel! read more

Oh my goodness, this restaurant was perfection. Service was outstanding. Our server, Michael, was attentive, quick to offer suggestions and knew the menu & resort well. The view on the patio was beautiful overlooking the ocean. Lots of heaters to keep you warm if it gets chilly. Full bar with some interesting cocktail creations. Started with the charcuterie platter. All of the meats & pickled vegetables were delicious. Next was a strawberry avocado salad - fresh & yummy. Hubby got the filet mignon. It was a good sized filet and cooked to perfection. I got the wagu short ribs - it melted in my mouth. Sooooooo good. Ended with a peach tart which had an almond gelato on the side. Another total home run. So Delicious!! -Seared Diver scallops -Sunchoke bisque -Beef tartar -roasted carrots Not Good at all and I can not eat it -Duck confit has no flavor and so dry. -Octopus was so dry and not good flavor. -Pork chop was covered completely with no flavor black sauce and pork itself has no seasoning. -Branzino was over cooked and Brussels sprouts that were undercooked and no flavor. -pasta bolognese, so dry and need little more salt -white truffle pasta was $90 plus tax and tip, but not enough white truffle (they said 30g of white truffle shave in front of you on top but it was so little on top) Overall very disappointing experience here. read more

This is a special restaurant for special times. Located at the Terranea Resort you already know the view will be spectacular. Reserve an outside table, the heat lamps will keep you cozy, but the fresh ocean breeze and view will turn what is an already amazing meal into a memory. We started out with Oysters on the Half Shell along with a couple cocktails, Basil Hayden on the rocks (they charge for "rocks" which I questioned and they told me that they add a little extra bourbon... ok) and one of their mixed cocktails called Ingénue: Ketel one citron, strawberries, agave, & prosecco. Tasty! They have an extensive wine menu, but our 2 whiskeys and "Ingénue's" were enough liquor. Along with the Oysters, we also split the Diver Scallops with the Truffle sauce which was amazing. We both opted for fish for our main course. I had the Alaskan Halibut which was thick, juicy and tender. It flaked off the fork but the consistency was solid while melting in your mouth. Not at all fishy and the pineapple jalapeno salsa along with the carrot/ginger puree gave it a complex taste I couldn't replicate. It was truly one of the best pieces of fish I've had. My date had the Branzino, a full sized fish minus head, and tail. The corn puree, green beans, tomato confit and cornbread crumbs made her smile. I tasted a bite and found the flavors to be unique and delicious. We are not dessert fans, but the attentive staff provided us with a bacon wrapped chocolate sweet which was sinful. Our waiter Steven and his assistant Ella were extremely well versed in how each menu selection was prepared and knew his stuff. Very friendly and not at all high pressure on pushing the bill higher. Not that it was low. We spent about $250 (including tip and the LA County tax - Holy cow!) for two which allowed us to sample 2 drinks each, 2 appetizers and 2 dinners. I was here about a month ago for brunch celebrating my moms birthday. We ordered our drinks and as we were waiting to put in our ordered for the prix fixe menu, one of the waiters brought out our drinks- (Bellini, mimosas and coffees). The waiter ended up accidentally spilling the container of creamer all over me; from my hair down to my dress, and all over my brand new Louis Vuitton bag. Mind you the place was packed, so everyone sitting in that patio saw all this happening. I thought it was water the whole time until I turned around and saw white all over me. The waiter was really flustered and apologized a hundred times. I was in shock and couldn't react; I was trying to keep my cool so my mom doesn't feel bad so I didn't make a scene. I wasn't concerned about my hair, or my dress, but more so my brand new bag. The bag is black and leather but these designer bags are very sensitive in how you care for them, not to mention very expensive so my concern was my bag. We wiped it with a napkin and figured it's fine as the material on this bag is such that you can't see any stains until they are all dried. Our main waiter ended up coming by and apologizing for the incident and stated he spoke with his manager and they will be comping us our cocktails- which is $45. I thought it was a joke because $45 wouldn't even cut the dry cleaning on my dress but I still managed to keep my cool and I was more concerned about my bag so didn't say anything. We stayed in the resort for a few more hours, walked around the water, had coffee before we headed back home. As we were getting our coffee from the cafe to head back, I noticed my black bag had white stains all over. The liquid had dried at this point and it was very clearly stained. I couldn't go back to the restaurant to show them as we were in a bit if a rush, so I decided I'd take the bag to the Louis Vuitton store first thing the next day and see if it's something that can be removed. I have since gone to the store 3 times now and the stain cannot be removed. It cannot be dry cleaned. I have called and spoken to the manager, who advised that all he could do was offer me a free meal and that I'd have to take in my bag to the resort OR send it to them so they can have their on site dry cleaning take a look to see if they can remove the stains. This is something his manager, The director of food & beverage at the resort told him; that this is all they could do. I went to this restaurant with a brand new bag, minding my own business, trying to celebrate my mom and within a second my brand new bag got ruined and the manger/director want me to take it back or send it to them so THEY can try to remove the stains. When the DESIGNER STORE couldn't remove the stains and advised this bag CANNOT be dry cleaned. I have since been trying to get a hold of the director, Vincent Brunelli-I have called almost every day, left numerous messages but apparently I'm not important enough for him to take a few minutes out of his day to look into my incident and resolve; as a person working of upper management should do. For a 4 diamond resort that made $45 million in profits last year, this is the ABSOLUTE WORST customer service I have ever seen in my life. I DO NOT recommend this establishment will never step foot in there again. I will be taking legal action as this issue has been severely ignored and the management has not handled it appropriately. read more

Came here for a birthday dinner on a monday night. Definetly recommend making reservations for this place on a weekend but on a week day its not very necessary. I got the brussel sprout salad for an appetizer which was not what i was expecting at all. It was raw shredded brussel sprouts with a lot of thick cheese. For my entree i got the filet which was really good. It was about $48 and was a good size. I asked for it cooked medium and boy was it pink. I usually order my steaks medium rare but to stay on the safe side here I would order it medium or higher up. The table came with complimentary bread. We brought a cake and they cut and lit the candles for us. This restaurant is extremely formal. So formal that they fold your napkin for you while you are in the restroom. I would dress formal for this restaurant, but semi formal is also okay. If you dont want to pay for valet you can park in the free lot and it is extremely close and easy to find the restaurant from the free lot. read more

This is a beautiful spot to have lunch, brunch, or dinner with your family. I came here for Fathers Day and it was the most beautiful day. The restaurant has an amazing patio, including a fire pit overlooking the ocean and the resort. The service was great, and they were very accommodating to table preferences and difficult orders (my parents are picky!). The prices are very high, unfortunately, so be prepared to pay resort prices. They had a different menu for Father's Day, as well, so I can't speak for the regular menu. Parking at terranea isn't too difficult, as there is a free lot right above the restaurant. There is also valet, but I never park using valet because it is unnecessary with a free lot. I recommend coming here for special occasions with family. read more

Went to Mar'sel restaurant in Palos Verdes last night and had an amazing experience! Everything was 5 star from the scenery to the service. When we first walked through the doors of the restaurant, we were greeted with grace and hospitality. Everyone was so polite and courteous. Our waitress was Claudia and the assistant waiter was Henry. Both were EXTREMELY kind and helpful in helping us decide ours appetizers, entrees, and drinks. Claudia went above and beyond to assure that our first visit to the restaurant, wouldn't be our last. She was happy, polite, energetic, courteous, thoughtful, and above all, attentive to all of our needs. Henry was also just as attentive and thoughtful as well. I came down for a relaxing girls weekend, on Sunday we started with brunch at Mar'sel. Such a great place for girls time, with an amazing view of the sea! I'm a bit of an espresso/coffee snob and the cappuccino I started with was one of the best I've had! After my cappuccino it was time for a real brunch drink, prosecco and Mar'sel offers the perfect Italian prosecco for brunch. We shared the snow crab and burrata on toast to start, next time I go back I won't be sharing this wonderful brunch dish! We ordered the bacon steak, it was good but I think for my taste I prefer sliced bacon (you can see some of it in the photo of the local fruit, yogurt and honey dish). We finished brunch with that fruit, yogurt and honey dish that was every bit as good as it looks! I recommend this restaurant for brunch whether you are staying at the resort or not. read more

We are foodies that travel the world. We have been coming to Terranea frequently since discovering it over 10 years ago. We stayed this time for 5 nights and had an excellent meal our first night at Bashi. Our last evening we booked Mar Sel and the meal truly was outstanding. Our waiter "Chris" and all of the attending servers were very professional and friendly which made the evening that much more enjoyable. The three standout dishes were the black truffle pasta served table side in a pecorino wheel, a delicate lobster pasta dish and a fresh Halibut dish with a perfect balance of flavours. We would have tried dessert but were too full from our excellent meal. This capped off a wonderfully relaxing stay at our favourite Oceanside resort in California. We will be back. read more

Great location and great service. However, vegetarian options are few and seemed not so appetizing, so I ordered a salad. I dislike salad on most days, but was my only option as we were with a group of people...I knew what I was getting into and was not complaining. I am aware of my diet choices and do not go vegan-nazi on businesses or people who do not cater to me, I get it. The sixteen dollar salad I got I could have made at home for about two dollars, okay... but was practically inedible. The salt on this salad...yes, salt...was as much as a normal person should eat in a month, if not more. Three or four bites and I was done. If they cannot make a palatable organic salad, I could only imagine what the rest of the menu would be like. Our server also did not know what brand of coffee/espresso they used, so no thanks. The view what can I say about the view being able to over look the ocean as the sunsets on the horizon it just set the mood for a very special date for me and my girlfriend. The service here was second to none Jeffery and Nikki both hands down provided the best service I've ever experienced. This place is amazing. Both the food and the service are stellar. If you go, try the brisket. This had to be the best brisket and eggs meal I've ever had. The presentation is definitely instagram ready. The taste will leave you wanting more. The smoked salmon was delicious. Our server Terry was amazing.
