Mar'sel is one of those restaurants that creates memorable evenings out! It starts with a magical setting--it sits perched on a hill that affords spectacular ocean views, and many of the tables look out at that view. And the vibe of the restaurant sets the tone that you're in for something special. The food is clearly the main event. The menu draws influence from a variety of culinary traditions, but it's ultimately the creative vision of their culinary team. I am most attracted to unexpected directions a skilled chef chooses to take their food, and I was spoiled for choice with things I was dying to try! The execution was highly skilled and the plating nothing short of artful--so gorgeous. The cocktail options also felt like choosing your favorite child, and the port menu after dinner was so fun. The service was also flawless. Our primary server, Jesus, was passionate and excellent--he seemed to know every detail of every dish and loved sharing that with interested guests. Everything was prompt, the right temperature, etc. Also, my partner is Celiac, so we need strict gluten free with no cross-contamination. This was no problem at all for this restaurant--Jesus skillfully guided us through the menu and it seems like the issue was communicated to the other staff, so everyone was on the lookout for my partner's safety. We really appreciate that, which makes the dining experience so much more enjoyable. We had a really incredible evening here and deeply appreciate all the work and considerations that went into it.

Beautiful outdoor ambiance with exceptional food and first-class service. It was a wonderful venue for a birthday dinner, timed such that sunset and the beautiful view onto Catalina island could be enjoyed. Delicious bread and butter, oysters, grilled octopus, burrata, diver scallops, sea bream, lamb loin, Chilean sea bass, and the pappardelle were all on point, tender, flavorful, and beautifully arranged. And the desserts were a nice finishing bouquet: raspberry and lemon, blueberry cheese cake, Old fashioned ... PS: the drive there from East (110 freeway) is dangerous due to ground shifting and bumps: go slow!

Love this restaurant, it is on the pricey side but it does not disappoint. The service is outstanding and friendly. The view sitting outside looking out towards the ocean is unreal and watching the sun set is a beautiful sight. Food is delicious everything from the appetizers to dessert are over the top as far as taste and presentation. The wagyu stuffed ravioli special - so good and not heavy, Ibérico Pork Coppa was amazing and was more like a short rib to me than a pork chop but nonetheless so good. Grilled octopus appetizer was so tender and good but it did have a little kick of spice to it but that didn't change anything. Desserts - Chocolate Dulcey Pot De Crème was so good and wasn't overly sweet or rich, the cookies and sea salt help it out with balance and the pavlova is a bright and refreshing dessert good for a nice end to the meal and to enjoy after a hot day.

We had dinner while staying at the Terranea last week. The best I can say about this restaurant is the view. We made reservations through the resort because making one via Open Table would have required a credit card and we were planning to apply our dinner charges to our room. The views are spectacular if seated outside before sunset. We had reservations at their 5 pm opening. Compared to a year ago, we were a little disappointed with the food. There were some steak options for over $200, but not many seafood options that I can recall. Portions were small for the price point. I inquired about having the scallop appetizer made into an entree. Our server said it would double the price and I'd only get 4 scallops instead of 2. The lobster bisque was delicious as it had a small tail in it. Their bread was not worth $16. My husband had the beef filet for $85. I opted for 2 appetizers as I couldn't find anything else to order. Nice restaurant for special occasions if you're looking for an ocean view.

I had a beautiful meal with exceptional service! The ambience is calm and relatively quiet compared to most restaurants. The view is spectacular. This is formal dining at its best - purse hook offered, dark napkin to avoid lint, amuse bouche, cutlery replaced with each course, incredibly knowledgeable server, an extra surprise from the chef. I thoroughly enjoyed beef carpaccio, truffle pasta and sea bream. Absolutely a "full bar" with a lovely variety of old world wines available by the glass, as well as digestifs.

The best restaurant at Terrenea, hands down. The outdoor view is incredible. The staff was all extremely nice. While waiting for a table, the bartender went out of his way to come over and make sure we got drinks. All the food was incredible. The staff were moving quick to make sure no one was ever waiting. The friendliest people on the property.

Came to Mar'sel for my birthday dinner and had an exceptional experience. The dedication to classiness and attention to detail is unmatched. Steven, my server, and his assistant Martin gave me and my fiancée 5 star treatment that could never compare to a fancy steakhouse like Mastro's, Sterlings, Ruth Chris, and Flemings. They were very professional yet down to earth at the same time! From the moment we walked in the door we felt as if we were transported into a European vacation. The hostess kindly greeted us and brought us to our table. She pulled out both of our chairs, set the napkin on our laps, and placed the menus in our hands which made us feel welcomed and taken care of from the start! Even as we passed by other servers and assistants, they all smiled and greeted us. We also had amazing sunset pictures taken by both Steven and Martin! They both treated us with so much attention, kindness, and sophistication which is truly appreciated when celebrating a special occasion. Thank you to Istvan Kiss, the manager, for personally greeting us at our table and being so kind. The service that the Mar'sel team provided made my birthday such a special night and I don't think I could never look at any other restaurant the same after dining here... and that's the catch. (It's a pretty good catch though)

Food: 5/5 We got the lamb and the pappardelle pasta with duck ragu. The lamb was very tender and juicy and the pasta was very tasty. I think their menu rotates every once in a while. Ambience: 5/5 The ocean view is amazing. Definitely adds to the restaurants allure. Parking: 3/5 I'm not sure if there's any parking outside of valet... Service: 5/5 Servers are super nice and friendly and the food came out pretty quickly. Price: 3/5 Price is a little expensive and I think you could get similar food for cheaper elsewhere but you're really coming here for the experience. The portions are also a little on the smaller side.

This is a very delayed update but one worth noting since the management was exceptional in responding to my review and extending another invitation to their restaurant. Mr. Kiss was incredibly accommodating and attended to every single request along with his staff. I will gladly return with my family since this place is special.

My fiancé and I came here for our engagement dinner and it was an amazing experience to say the least. Our server Felix went above and beyond to make sure that we had a night to remember. He started off by seating us outside next to a glass fire heater with the most amazing view of the moonlight over the water and Cliff side lights. He then recommended we start off with some Barada cheese, Spanish artichokes and the most amazing bread service you can ever imagine. For dinner, she had the lobster risotto which is just superior to anything we've had before and I chose the coastal lamb that was simply just the tastiest I've ever had. By that time we were filled to the point where we couldn't think of dessert, but he still insisted on bringing us out some cheesecake that I still think about in my dreams. I can't stress enough that Felix had made that night amazing and treated us like family from the very beginning. It doesn't get any better when it comes to the customer service. He is simply the best!!!! 100/10 Experience!!!! If you're looking for the best service for your special night be sure to ask for Felix!!!!!!

Those three little cookies were gold. I still can't stop thinking about them.

Food was amazing. We sat outside with an amazing view of the ocean, and the weather was perfect. Our server Ben was so pleasant, attentive, and knowledgeable. He helped us make some good food choices. The scallops were my favorite thing on the menu. I also really love the cookies that came with the dessert at the end. I can't stop thinking about them. They were like chocolate chip sea salt, shortbread cookies. I would eat a whole sleeve of those if I could buy them. Can't wait to go back again.

Is there a kids menu? If so, what's on the menu?

Yes there was. Steak, pasta and other options

Is there a bar where you can go in for a cocktail?

Absolutely! A very nice bar with great cocktails.

Can guys get away with wearing a hat?

This is an upscale restaurant. You may feel odd wearing a hat due to the lack of etiquette.

Are service dogs allowed on patio?

    Yes

Can we order and have it delivered to our room?

No. The Resort has a complete in room dining service with its own kitchen. Most items are not available to go as the sauces and delicate garnishes do not transport well.

Earlier today my family and I came here for lunch. What a beautiful place to be at. I ordered the summer breeze cocktail and loved it on this hot summer day. Made with strawberry and lime. So good. The food was good to some dishes better than others. The chicken wings were delicious so was the pretzel. My boys got spicy chicken sandwich and liked it a lot. I got the swordfish tacos and was very disappointed. There was barely any fish in it or cabbage salad, only two tacos. Everyone else seemed to be satisfied with their food. First, the positives: The location is unmatched. Having dinner while watching the gorgeous sunset over the Pacific was unforgettable. The tall male host at the entrance was also wonderfully kind, professional, and set a great tone for the evening. As for the food, it was a bit of a mixed bag but mostly good. The burgers and tacos were flavorful and delicious. However, I would skip the Fried Calamari--it was almost entirely heavy batter, and it felt like there was barely any actual squid inside. Unfortunately, our dining experience took a sharp turn for the worst due to our female server. We were served our main courses before our salads or appetizers ever made it to the table, and we weren't even given any utensils to eat with. After waiting and searching for our server to no avail, I flagged down another staff member to ask for utensils and let them know about the missing appetizers. Shortly after, our server marched over to our table with an incredibly defensive and intimidating attitude, asking us if we had "complained" about her to another staff member. The hostile tone was shocking. To top it off, she forgot our drinks, and when we had to ask for them again, she gave us an exasperated, annoyed look. It is so disappointing when a beautiful, special occasion is ruined by someone's terrible attitude. While the scenery and most of the food were fantastic, management really needs to address the service standards here.

Sushi, free flowing champagne, prime rib, crepes, crab, waffles, eggs Benedict, pancakes, chocolate dipped fruit, breads, bagels, cheeses, salad, Korean short ribs, shrimp, shrimp scampi, pasta, omelettes, oysters, fruit & figs, and sausage & bacob. We arrived around 7:30-7:45 PM without a reservation and were seated within about 15 minutes. The restaurant has both indoor and outdoor seating, and we decided to sit inside. The atmosphere was nice, and both our waitress and waiter were friendly and helpful. Overall, I thought the service was great. For drinks, I ordered the Karate Kid, upgraded with the handcrafted ice cube and smoked, and the White Lotus. The Karate Kid was excellent--very smooth and well balanced, and definitely my favorite of the 2. Unfortunately, the White Lotus was pretty underwhelming. It tasted like a watered-down sour drink, and I could barely taste the alcohol. We started with the Peruvian scallops and BBQ oysters. The scallops were one of the highlights of the night. They were served with a mango cube in each, which added a refreshing sweetness that paired surprisingly well with the scallops. The BBQ oysters, on the other hand, weren't really for me. The sauce and seasoning overpowered the natural flavor of the oysters, and I personally prefer preparations that allow the oyster itself to be the star. For our entrees, we ordered the short rib pappardelle, king crab roll, and New York strip. The short rib pappardelle was easily my favorite dish of the night. The short rib was incredibly tender, the pasta was cooked perfectly, and the flavors were rich without being overwhelming. Everything complemented each other really well. The New York strip was slightly more cooked than I would have preferred and a little salty, but it was still enjoyable. The king crab roll was decent, although I found it somewhat bland and wished it had a little more flavor. Overall, I had a really enjoyable experience. There were a few hits and misses, but the dishes that stood out were excellent, the service was great, and I thought the pricing was very reasonable for the overall experience. I would definitely come back and try more of the menu.

Zero. Barely any flavor at all. This wasn't Level 5. This wasn't Level 1. This was apparently Level 0: Thai food for people who are afraid of black pepper. So we called the restaurant. The woman who answered told us, incredibly confidently, that they don't make their food spicy. Excuse me... what? This is a Thai restaurant. We have ordered spicy food from Swan Thai before. And, more importantly, your own online ordering system literally has spice levels, including Level 5. So either the online menu is completely meaningless, or someone in the restaurant has decided that customers no longer deserve to know what they're ordering. We asked to speak with a manager. Apparently, there was no manager. We asked for the owner. We were told the owners "come and go as they want." So who exactly is running this place? Is it just a group project where everyone shows up, does whatever they want, and hopes nobody asks questions? The food was so bland and disappointing that we barely ate it. And honestly, after the ridiculous phone conversation, we didn't even have much interest in finishing it. What makes this worse is that I used to like Swan Thai. That's why this was so disappointing. Restaurants can have an off day, but when the food is wrong, the online menu contradicts what an employee tells you, and there apparently isn't even a manager available to address the issue, that's more than an off day. Swan Thai, you used to be much better. Somewhere along the way, the food lost its flavor and the customer service apparently lost its direction. I won't be making the mistake of ordering here again.

We drove into this plaza not far from work. I seen folks sitting outside. I could smell food. So we parked and walked inside. The place was busy folks at the bar chatting away watching the games that were playing. We were seated immediately. The server came asked what would we like for drinks. Hubby ordered a Michelada and I ordered a diet coke. That Michelada was delicious! I ordered Fish and Chips with cornbread I gave my food a 10. Hubby ordered BBQ pulled pork sandwiche he gave his food a 7. He was still hungry so I shared my plate with him. I wanted dessert so I asked for menu. We ended up ordering cookies and cream. That dessert was a 10!!!! The service was perfect and we enjoyed the vibe of shore grille. Never knew this good eatry was close to work. And for it being a holiday the 4th I thought they would of closed early.

We placed a $96 order through DoorDash and had confirmation that the order was paid for. My husband arrived at the scheduled pickup time, only to be told they had no order for us. Even though he had proof of the completed purchase, the way the situation was handled made it feel like they were insinuating that we must not have ordered or checked out correctly. I contacted DoorDash myself to cancel, and DoorDash actually called the restaurant. Suddenly, the restaurant confirmed they DID receive our order and said it must have been an issue with their Wi-Fi. DoorDash told us we could go back and pick it up, but my husband had already driven there once and been turned away. We weren't going to make another trip because of an issue on the restaurant's end. At that point, I felt the least they could have offered was to deliver the food themselves or make some effort to correct the situation. Instead, the order was canceled, and after waiting for dinner, our family ended up eating cereal. Mistakes and technical issues happen. What bothered us most was the customer service and how my husband was treated when he was standing there with proof that we had paid. A little kindness and willingness to problem-solve would have completely changed this experience. It's sad because we've supported this restaurant for a very long time, but after this experience, we'll be taking a break. I really hope they improve how situations like this are handled because longtime customers shouldn't leave feeling belittled over a mistake that wasn't theirs.
