It's a diner plain and simple, so if you are expecting fancy not the place for you but if you are looking for a reasonably priced good breakfast add it to your list. We absolutely loved this place! Tucked away in a shopping center, this diner serves up the best food. The eggs Benedict comes with a huge slab of house-smoked ham and was delicious. Despite the great reviews we experienced TERRIBLE service here. It wasn't packed and it took 20 mins before we were asked for our order. About another 30 minutes later SOME of our order came out. Coffee requests went unfilled, I ordered orange juice and that never showed up. By the time we finished our breakfast the toast that was supposed to come with our order arrived. This place rocks. If it was not for Yelp, I probably would not have risked it. What a dump on the outside. Old dumpy strip mall, cracked sign, big dumpsters on the side. Went inside and it was great. Very busy but got a table right away. Very clean inside and nice, 50's decor. Waitress (Sandy) was awesome. Did not expect the New Jersey accent in Northern Maine. I had the Eggs Benedict and it was off the hook. Believe it or not, too much ham. The ham was amazing, ham steak that was tender and flavorful but a 3/4 inch cut of ham on my Eggs Benedict was just too much and overpowered the other flavors a bit. I cannot knock them for too much of a good thing, however. We also order a side of corned beef hash and it was excellent, Crispy and flavorful. Wife had a scramble with the great ham and swiss cheese and she loved it. Great coffee and perfect, fast service. read more

If you are staying in Ellsworth or surrounding towns, definitely eat here! Portions are ample, and everything the four of us ate over two visits was wonderful! Try the special quiche (changes daily), the crab Benedict, the omelets. The coffee is good strong simple coffee. A little hole in the wall, it's popular with the locals - get there before 8:30 am on the weekends, or you'll be waiting. Even so, it's well worth it! And yes, there is a real Martha! read more

We searched high and low in Ellsworth for Creamed Chipped Beef and found a fabulous one here at Martha's served on 2 bisquits !!! Packed at 10am on a Sunday, we sat at the counter and were politely entertained by Martha, Mr. Martha (I think) and the kitchen staff. Dare I forget the grilled raspberry muffin along with my eggs and sausage. All for under $20 (excluding tip). Stopped here for breakfast on our way back from Bar Harbor. We picked it based on the reviews and weren't disappointed. This place fits the classic diner description; friendly servers who call you honey, fresh baked bread and muffins and great (just like your mutha made) food. A new restaurant since the last time I was home, this spot has been many things. I think it was a decent pizza place last I knew, I don't know why pizza places are so volatile around this town. I took my mother out to lunch here and ran into my grandparents. I always joke that I run into people I know more in Seattle than I do in the small city of Ellsworth, so this was nice to have happen. The wait staff was great. I'm sure I had a omelet, lacking any real vegetarian options. I remember it being good and the options all being named after local towns which was a little confusing I felt had little bearing on what was actually in the omelet. Of course, Maine still hasn't heard of vegetarians. I used to prefer Riverside but I was told by everyone that it was under new management and not so hot now. So I lived in Ellsworth still, this is where I'd be getting brunch. read more

This was just our first visit but the place has a wonderfully old-school diner look with great service and darn good coffee. We ordered two of their "famous" dishes: the Reuben and the Famous House Ham Sandwich breakfast. Both were fabulous, way more than we had even hoped for. Holy Moly!!! Homestyle breakfast choices with great service e and friendly staff! I had a southwest fajita omelette (huge) which comes with home fries. The little one had blueberry pancake/French toast combo with a side (three large patties) of sausage. She gives it 18 stars out of 5. I can't argue with her. Martha's diner had many great items on the menu which made it difficult to decide what to get! I chose the chicken corn chowder and it was very good though a little spicy!! It had jalapeños in it but it was extremely tasty and I don't even like peppers!! A member of our party had a Reuben sandwich and fell in love with it . Like you're at a family's home. Would definitely recommend if in Bar Harbor area. Drive over to here to avoid long waits and much better service. Prices were great too. A must visit. Our go to breakfast place. We like to use local products and services whenever possible. This is where we take our out-of-town visitors. Cheeky deco, mostly Lucile Ball, Carol Burnett, Betty Boop, 60's inspired, but once you meet Martha you will understand why. Great food, fast friendly service, usually very clean. Being a local favorite and quickly becoming a tourist favorite it can get a bit congested and noisey which will slow food delivery time. read more

We were a party of 12. We were however splitting the party to a party of 5, party of 4, and party of 3. It took about 10 minutes of waiting for a wait server to ask how many in the party. Then we waited another 20 minutes of waiting to only be cut in line by 3 other groups. A couple of two just walked in when we had already waited 20 minutes and no one stopped them when we were there first. Another couple was seated when they arrived after us. After 30 minutes of waiting we decided to give up and just leave, as soon as we left and walked away thats when another group walked in and they seated them. I will give them 2 stars only because they were short staffed and im being lenient and understanding of that. However even still, the attentiveness was not the best. Suggested for small groups. On 08/9/19, on our way out of Acadia National Park, stopped here for a wonderful lunch with the family. The Reuben sandwich was superb. The BLT and the tomato basil soup was on point and my daughter stated that the grilled cheese lived up to her expectations. The service was good, the owners were friendly, but they only take cash so be aware before you go. We ordered the eggs benedict and corned beef hash with pancakes (I think?). My eggs benny was ok...nothing to write home about. My husband raved about their thick slice of ham on the benny but I wasn't impressed with it. While halfway through with my breakfast, I heard the waitress say that they served lobster eggs benedict...had I had known that, I would've ordered that! Best breakfast we had all week! The potatoes were perfectly seasoned but not too crisp, the eggs were cooked just the way we like them, and the blueberry pancakes are SO good. It's like someone took all the goodness of a blueberry muffin and flattened it into pancake form. I was in heaven. I'm a little surprised by the strength of the reviews; for me, Martha's was merely okay. Very basic food, and in particular, I didn't think the blueberry pancakes were that special - they were rather dense and heavy, and light on blueberries.
