Me and my husband made inside reservations as we were going to have a hot day in the sun and wanted a nice cool dinner. We arrived at 9 and were told inside seating was closed. What a find! On our last night in Key West, (3/2/22), we were driving around looking for a good early dinner/happy hour spot. Going past Martins, (which we knew nothing about), we saw a good line of 20 or 30 people waiting for them to open the door at 4:00. We knew it had to be good so we turned the car around and got inline. It was better than good. Martin's is a great little "hole in the wall" place. Cool comfy bar area, nice outdoor Bistro seating in the back, and several good upfront tables for open-air people watching. Martins has the best Happy Hour for food and drink in Key West that we could find. They have a really good Tapas Menu, and all of them, plus well drinks are 50% off during happy hour. Our group of four must have had more than a dozen tapas. Every one was sensational and even a bit unique in their preparation. Our group wasn't "lamb chop" people, but after one order of them we ordered two more sets! The best I've ever had. They also have very unique drinks, and the best Olde Fashions we've had anywhere. Over the course of two hours more all those Tapas and many drinks were brought to us by one of the best waiters I've experienced in a very long time. His name is Jovan, ("yo-van"). Jovan's service was timely, polite, and engaging; He was extremely knowledgeable about each of the dishes and their preparation, and he had a great knowledge of the different bourbons available for the olde fashions. His personal presentation and attitude was warm and professional. I keep harping on how good he was, because, come to find out, it was Jovan's first day. We were all blown away by hearing this. He seemed like a 10 year vet. Go to Martins Steakhouse with great confidence, and be sure to ask for Jovan; he is truly exceptional! read more

We stood in line prior to the restaurant's opening at 4pm - a good indication that there is something special about the restaurant. The potato soup had an excellent texture, but there was no flavor. The Jäger schnitzel was excellently prepared with great breading and it was very tender. Again, the flavor was non-existent. We went back again for happy hour the following night... maybe different cook, better flavor? We ordered potato soup, tropical Waldorf salad and schnitzel strips. Our waiter was nice, but seemed to have some weird OCD thing about where things were on the table - he even picked up my cell phone and moved it; rearranged my bread and water glass every time he came to the table. Potato soup still lacked flavor. No salt or pepper on the table to augment. Waldorf salad was well-prepared, as was the schnitzel. The remoulade for the schnitzel was excellent. The thing that spoiled the whole experience came when the waiter told us we could not get a to-go box for the leftover schnitzel that we didn't finish. We paid for the food, but couldn't take the two strips left, because the manager got pissed off and bitched out the server for allowing guests to take to-go boxes for happy hour. If you don't want people to take away happy hour food, post it - or don't even offer it. We would have gone back - and probably even have paid the outrageous à la carte prices, but no. Never again. I don't need to be treated like I'm trash because I happened to take advantage of happy hour pricing. read more

Rude host!! Son in law of owner Martin....extremely disrespectful.. maybe if he actually had skills he would be more than a host. This place is horrible! Do not go here if you are a person of color. On two occasions my family was treated very poorly. The first occasion we were denied access to the restaurant by the host who claimed there was no happy hour seating, yet 3 separate parties who walked in after us were offered bar seating. This place is extremely discriminatory and I would like to believe it's due one of the hosts. He was very rude and bragged that his dad "in law" was the owner. My family is native to key west and wanted to celebrate my grandmas 97th birthday, but as we were getting her out of the car the next day, the host greeted outside and said we were not allowed in due to treating the host poorly the day before. We were not rude, did not use profanity and actually left the establishment and went down the street to the Little Jazz Room and had a blast. We were even willing to go there the day after to celebrate my grandma with no hard feelings. After the second occurrence we realized this establishment has allowed an egotistical host and his husband to ruin an experience for a 97 year old woman and her family. read more

An excellent dinner very well prepared and the ambience is excellent. Really enjoyed the wine list and the selection of food and the service was exceptional. One of the top three restaurants I would recommend in Key West. The wait staff was excellent the food was fantastic and they made for a very pleasant evening. If you're looking for elegance reasonable price and excellent service with delicious food this is an excellent restaurant to visit. The one suggestion I would make is to save room for dessert as just when you think the meal cannot get any better the dessert menu comes and it is to die for. read more

We sat at the bar and ordered the Pate' app. Bread was hard, and my wife asked for some fresh bread, Sara. Our bartender said, "Most people like crackers with that, that's why it's hard." Ordered a bottle of wine. She literally dumped half the bottle in the glass without asking if we would like to sample it.. Then, after struggling to eat a small portion, we decided not to eat dinner there. I asked for the check and an expresso. The expresso machine was literally right behind her. We got the eye roll. (BTW, there was only one other customer at the bar). Got the check and expresso, asked for a packet of sugar, she stormed off to the kitchen came back and gave me the pack of sugar, God forbid it should be left next to the coffee lol... my wife jokingly asked me if I was going to get a lemon wedge to put a twist in my coffee (something I loved visiting Rome).. Sara came over and grabbed the check and $100 bill, I asked for a lemon wedge as it was right next to her.. she put a wedge on the plate, slammed it down, and said, "For the big baby. ".... Unbelievable, I owned a restaurant years ago, and we love meeting and taking care of staff wherever we go. This one got a $1 tip, which I slammed down on the bar and said, "From the big baby." read more

I have never seen a lobster dinner for only $36!!!!! WOW! This place is dope! Not only is it VERY reasonably priced, the food is delicious and the portion sizes are great! Service was great from start to finish. Our waiter was attentive, accommodating and very helpful when it came to our questions. Having your appetizer bread placed on your plate for you is pretty damn nice...LOL The food and drinks were really great. Our large group ordered almost everything on the menu and were pleased. Martin's advertises German Food and seafood and while they did have quite a bit of seafood on the menu, the German influence was moderate, to say the least and not really authentic German. That being said, the food was still delicious! The little backyard sitting area is very cozy and romantic, off the busy Duval Street, although a pretty loud a/c unit compensated for the lack of the street vibe and it wasn't exactly quiet. While this was not a major issue for us, I think it is still noteworthy. Service overall was good, but our waiter was a fairly arrogant snob, his replies to our questions were short, snippy, and not very helpful. The poor experience with the waiter hasn't affected the joy and quality of the food, so overall it was a good experience with a fair price for quality ration. If they get their waiter a Training is customer service and appreciation, this will be a really nice place! read more

I had dinner with friends while on vacation. I ordered filet mignon medium rare. It came well done. Sides were also overcooked. I didn't send back to kitchen because I wanted to eat with friends. 4 1/2 out of 5. Great happy hour from 4 to 6 PM...drinks and apps half off. Split vote by the 6 of us...three 5's and three 4's. My DIL had to have a Chocolate Martini and this place is touted as offering the best in the Keys. They make their own chocolate vodka and she said it's the best she's ever had. The Sea Scallops Florentine is the single best dish I've had in the Keys... fresh scallops, bacon, spinach, white wine sauce, delicately covered in cheese. I'll dream about this dish for a long, long time. Great service (thanks Dano) and a very friendly crowd. If you have a minute, a short story: A gentleman in the back corner of the patio dressed in a t-shirt, shorts, and a Ohio State hat (you know, grey hat with a big red "O" on the front) sitting by himself struck up a conversation with our boisterous table. I asked where in Ohio he was from. He asked how I knew it was Ohio. I responded "by the infected anus on your hat". Fellow guests and our server Dano all started to loudly laugh. The friendly "banter battle" was on. He ended up buying us a round and I buying his wine. The entire patio got involved in true Key West fashion, and a truly fun afternoon resulted. We had a great dinner here on a Thursday evening. Cute ambiance, much bigger inside than it first appears. This place was nice and quaint. Great location from all the ruckus. I went in about 5pm and was greeted greatly from the host and waiter. Awesome $5 martini Happy Hour. The Potato Leak Soup! Awesome flavor and the complementary bread was great for dipping. I ordered the Lamp (Amazing) Lobster special w/ stuffed crab cakes (sweet taste and gave the Lobster an actual taste.) I find that any lobster ordered doesn't taste like anything. This was excellent!!! The Shrimp & Scallop Skewer. Shrimp was HUGE! Snitzhel- pretty good but not meant for 1 person. It's a lot. Then dessert. A Belgium chocolate thing w/ strawberries and complimentary champagne. Overall, it was EXCELLENT! Great for dates, anniversary, happy hour, appetizers and ambiance. After looking at the menu and the prices, I expected this to be a nice dining option. I was disappointed. The interior of the restaurant looks less refined than the exterior. The food tasted good, but the presentation of the food was bland. Both the appetizer (baked brie) and main (duck breast) had exactly the same garnish, while the filet mignon just looked odd on mash and a halved tomato next to it. It also didn't help that we were initially seated in the middle at what looks like an awkwardly added table. I asked to be reseated but after waiting in vain for two servers to help us, I got up and asked the host directly to get reseated. The wine by glass were not great -- we didn't finish them. It also certainly didn't help that the two tables next to us were unpleasantly loud, which made the dining experience suboptimal. Overall, the food tasted good but for the price, I would have expected a much nicer dining ambience and experience. read more

This was convenient to our hotel. Tried to go for happy hour an hour before our reservation but were turned away; seems they have a very popular happy hour, but we weren't able to experience that. Arrived on time for our reservation and were seated promptly at a "people watching" table, as we requested. Service by Holly Ann was attentive and the food was very good. We ordered/split the green salad with blue cheese, it was excellent. We both ordered tapas; I had the lamb chops and they were delicious, grilled perfectly. My companion had the scallops Florentine. I tasted them and they were delicate and good, he liked them just fine. Prices were in line with this area, a nice place for an elegant dinner. read more

The way he treated us was so uncalled for that I would never recommend anyone ever eat here. Amazing little restaurant on Duvall. We had the best waiter- Mike. We are here for our husbands 50th birthdays. He was Inquisitive but not overly so and informative giving us great tips for things to do on the island. The food was amazing there were 4 of us so we shared several appetizers. Caprese salad, Waldorf salad, tuna tataki, baked Brie (omg so good). Then split the Beef Wellington and shrimp Alfredo. Everything was delicious! We ordered bananas foster (my husbands most favorite dessert and the reason he picked this restaurant over another), apple strudel and chocolate mousse. It was all amazing. Mike was amazing, food was amazing, ambience was amazing. My only criticism is the Old Fashioned we ordered was pretty much Billet on the rocks with an orange peel. read more

My friend had her wedding reception here and I was part of the wedding party and helped her decide on menu ideas, set up, etc. The staff was super friendly, super helpful and super talented! They created an outdoor oasis for the happy couple and her 14 guests. Beautiful and simplistic design. There was a spot for the champagne, there was a spot for the cake and anther with the gift bags. They decorated the tables with martini glasses filled with the candies that the bride brought. Set out the favors. Everything was so pretty. The food was wonderful. Crab legs were huge and tasty. The scallops appetizer and caprese salad were simply delicious! I was torn with the main dish though. Choices of file mignon, lobster, yellow fin or lamb. I went with the healthiest choice (yellow fin) but so wanted to taste the lamb and the lobster! I should of ordered the lobster! It was phenomenal, at least that's what the guest who ordered it said. He couldn't even finish the whole thing and was sharing with some of the people around him! Although the yellow fin was delicate and tasty, I wasn't 100% fond of the capers. It made the dish a little saltier than I cared for but still an excellent dish. The Merlot that the waiter selected for us was an excellent choice and he made sure my glass was never low. ;) making my experience even better. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting the Key West area. It's a little pricey but fresh and the owner and employees are quick to please and make you feel at home. read more

Great location on Duval Street with some open air seating. We arrived at 5:30 and it was half price martini and tapas, which is what we had in mind so it was a win win for us. Our first martini probably sat at the bar too long as it wasn't cold enough. I had the chocolate one and it is extremely good, made with their own dark chocolate concoction, and probably not able to be replicated. The second one was much colder. I rarely can drink 2 because they hit me like a freight train so I am guessing the alcohol content was very minor. Tasty but not giving me a nice buzz so disappointing that way We ordered the Brie which was phenomenal. Great sauce, with the cheese perfectly melted. The schnitzel was nice and thin and well breaded and fried. Those two would have been enough for us. Next came the lobster which I didn't like. Cold lobster cut in round pieces served with a sauce. Lastly the pork kabobs which had a very strong flavor I wasn't keen on. The bread basket had fresh bread flavored with cumin. Not a fan Nice menu and would consider dinner next time. read more

We did happy hour at this place, and it was well worth it. 2 martinis (Key West Sunset and Key Lime) and 2 glasses of wine for half price, plus 1/2 price tapas. We had schnitzel strips (a whole schnitzel sliced up), crab cakes (2 small ones), a tropical Waldorf salad and Brie with pear & pomegranate. One of my favorite restaurants in Key West. I've been here several times and every time it's the same experience. That's not a bad thing, I mean to say the place is consistent and lives up to what you would expect a fine dining place to be. Great food, the drinks are outstanding, and the atmosphere is very nice. The first time we had dinner here was for our anniversary, we arrived a little early and our table was ready but they asked if I could wait about 1 minute. They had to add a final touch to our table, flower petals and a nice little bouquet to bring in the look and help us celebrate! It was a beautiful touch and they went that extra step to make it a wonderful experience. I had the beef Wellington and my husband had the filet. Both were exceptionally done and the presentation was on point. Don't forget the appetizers! You MUST have the lamb chops! They were perfect with just a touch or spice that made them extra special. In the middle of dessert, the manager came over and told us people were waiting for our table. There were plenty of empty tables around us. When we left I told him that was really ride. I can't believe this experience. My first time in Key West, and my first time here. I insisted that we go (there were 7 of us) for a bit of a fine dining experience and for martinis. We were greeted by a rude waiter, who was not only happy that I was ready for my drink order but my other 6 friends were not (they actually wanted me to order while they previewed the menu) I asked for a martini bone dry (no vermouth) I saw the bartender putting vermouth in. I told him when he came back and he said oh she made a mistake. I'm thinking he didn't write it down properly. Two of my friends from the party ordered gin and tonics and they asked for lime. The waiter then said well the tonic water is club soda with lime. I said, what? No it's not. Tonic water is carbonated water with quinine. He then continued to argue with me on that. Literally arguing with a customer and he was clearly wrong. We decided not to get dinner at this point because outside of that, he was slow (we were pretty much the only people in the restaurant) and well a bottle of Cakebread Cellars Sauvignon Blanc was $90?? Really? A $30-$35 bottle of wine selling for $90? I get that you need to make a profit, but wow on this mark up. And when we said we weren't having dinner, well the waiter creepily kept coming over to wipe our table down, slowly and methodically. We ended up going to another restaurant only a few doors down, and the atmosphere, wait staff and food were delicious!! read more
