We tried this place when we were in Hawaii many years ago. We really enjoyed the ease and affordability, especially since we were traveling with extended family. With it just being myself, my husband, and our dog, we were pleasantly surprised that they had an outdoor space that was pet friendly! We went at night and it was cooler so they had the heater on. It was just too much for us so we did ask them to turn it off which they politely obliged. My husband went in and ordered both of our meals and I was very specific that we had to have the shrimp temper again. The meal definitely did not disappoint. The shrimp tempura was crispy and filling. We did opt for the gyoza but it was the least favorite of what we had so I let my husband eat the rest. The space outside was mostly clean and uninhabited. I got the worst food poisoning here last week. Projectile vomiting and diarrhea for a week. Reported to the health department and the health department found several serious violations of food improperly stored and not at correct temperature. Also employee was actively sick and working. Please avoid if you value your health. Also please note they are currently propping open the doors so you can't see their health department violation notice which is incredibly deceptive. It's a simple cafeteria-style udon place. You order your udon, pay at the counter and take the tray to any open tables available. It's reasonably priced and quick. They have a water/ice station with tempura sauce, utensils and napkins. There is a nice outdoor areas for seating too. This place can get crowded over the weekend and the line gets long outside the door too. During peak time, parking can be hard to find. The parking lot isn't that big with all the shops in the same complex and some space are pretty tight. Plan accordingly when you come. read more

Great option for quick and cozy udon! This is a cafeteria style restaurant, where you order at the front, they make the food in front of you, and you pay right there. Service was pretty fast for a weekend and it was easy to find a seat after paying. Pretty much everything is self serve, including the utensils, water, and sauces. I ordered the Nikutama with fresh veggies on the side, and it delicious! The broth is definitely on the sweeter side (which I personally like). It's more of a "saucey" broth so it can get a little salty after having a few bites. Noodles were the perfect bouncy texture. I do feel like they could have been more generous with the meat though, since I finished that quite fast. Their tamagoyaki tempura was great as well--sweet and not too oily. So happy to finally be able to try this iconic restaurant. We arrived around 4:30 pm on a Friday and the restaurant seemed seemingly empty. Remnants of long winding outdoor lines told us we were very lucky. There were plenty of tables and the ambiance was very much a modern Chinese restaurant. We loved the different choices and were a little overwhelmed. The little warming area of the fried foods really reminded us of Japan! We ordered everything to-go and it was packaged very well. I will say the some of the packaging didn't withstand the heat of the food but there were no spills or leaks, just some plastic deformity. Offerings: - Nikutama: I absolutely loved this dish. Perfectly QQ noodles with tender beef and fresh toppings. The broth really reminded me of sukiyaki and was a tiny bit too salty, but I still ate every bite! - Kake: a very simple broth but the udon noodles were delicious! - Spam Musubi: perfectly simple and what you would expect. Can't complain. - Chicken Katsu: we ordered a fried chicken katsu just to snack on while waiting for our other to-go food. It was a little over fried, possibly from sitting under a heat lamp, but we liked it nonetheless. The staff were friendly and patient with us as we figured out what we wanted. They were even accommodating when we tried to order away from the to-go order station. Apparently there is a different line/window in the back of the store. Ordered a nikutama udon for takeout, and it was just an average udon. I wasn't too impressed, but I also didn't think it was that bad either. I thought they didn't include nearly enough broth, as the broth amount only covered about half the noodles. What I really liked was how the packaged the takeout. They divided each portion of the udon into its own separate compartment, which ensured freshness and quality. Portion size was sufficient, definitely enough for a good meal. read more

Was a big fan of Valley Fair's Marugame Udon so I thought I'd give this location a try as well. It was my first time ordering dine-in as opposed to take out, and the servers were very friendly. One of them had also recommended me to get the egg spam musubi, which was worth the extra amount of money that I had to pay. The atmosphere of this Marugame Udon felt relatively homely while also being paritally crowded, but I was able to find a clean and empty table to eat my food in. The food tasted just as good as it was at the other Marugame, and the vegetables (mixed with some sauce that they offered in a packet) and the spam musubi was a nice additional touch. I left the restaurant feeling very fulfilled. Overall a very pleasant experience. Would recommend this location if you're a fan of Marugame or are in the mood to have udon in Cupertino. Parking can be a bit difficult though, but it could be better on a less crowded day. read more

Cafeteria style dining - line up, order udon or rice bowl, then as you go down the line to pick up deep-fried items like shrimp tempura, asparagus tempura, gyoza, etc and attentive the end, you pay the cashier. *Nikutama (large = double noodles): Sanuki-style Udon served in our Umami-rich (flavor-packed) sauce. Can be enjoyed hot or cold (4/5). The udon has a nice chewy bite to it. The soup is very flavorful and rich yet without the heaviness. *Chicken Katsu (4/5) - thigh meat was tender and juicy but with that nice breading on the outside. *Potato Croquette (4/5) - nice batter crunch with creamy inside. Came by for lunch the other day and it was a decent experience. Marugame Udon is a Japanese-owned chain from Japan. They have branches in Japan, including at Haneda Airport! Parking is plentiful in the private lot. Ordering is done with the cook that wears nitrile gloves. There is a selection of hot tempura to grab before heading to the cashier. Tables were plentiful inside the restaurant as well as on the patio. Portions were gigantic. Udon noodles were decent, in line with a chain udon shop. The shop was better in Japan. Last year I was in Honolulu Hawaii and my Uber driver recommended Marugame. I did try it in Hawaii and I was very impressed and satisfied. Now speed up a year later I decided to check online if they had one near me. I ended up going and trying it. Sorry to say I did not have the same great experience. I ordered the Beef & Sprout Udon along with Cheese, Shrimp and crab Tempura. As I attempted to look for a seat most of the tables were dirty from use and it was 730 dinner time on a Friday and there was no line and not packed at all. Now after cleaning my own table a sitting for my meal I went straight for tasting my broth and was very disappointed. It was a cold evening and soup was the target. But the broth was luke warm at best. My date also had Luke warm broth. That kind of drew a big disappointment. What do we do? As we tried to eat soup is just not the same if it is not hot so we brought it to the attention of the staff. The lady at the counter tried to convince us they check the temperature of the broth before serving it and it should be hot. After a long stare at each other she says, well what do you want? Now I am feeling like unimportant to them. Right before I was about to speak the woman running the counter says do you want new broth? I say of course, but HOT broth please! They gave us both Hot broth and this time you can see the steam coming off of it and we went to sit back down to enjoy our meal. The tempura was delicious. After my first encounter with this restaurant, I will not be returning. First impression is everything and sorry but they were not sorry. read more

Loveeee Marugame Udon and so glad they have more locations! Came on a Friday night and it wasn't too busy. We ordered and the service was super quick. They had a bunch of the fried tempura that were coming out fresh. Not as many options as the Hawaii locations but has all the basics. The chicken katsu is soooo good and taste similar to a Taiwanese style chicken. The only con was that the food was just warm, not hot. The tempura though was nice and fresh as we got lucky with the new batches that were coming out. Inside has a good amount of seating with plenty of outdoor seating as well. The dishwashing area where you put your used dishes was a bit filled up and didn't have a liquid pouring area but we managed and put it away as best as we could.
