I gave this place 3 stars because I am not a fan of Udon at this restaurant it was my first time having it! The noodles were way too thick and dense! It was off putting! The service is cafeteria style with fried tempera style meat and veggie options to get with your Udon! The tempera shrimp and chicken I got was bland and lacked flavor! The broth from Udon was very flavorful. The prices were affordable and portion generous. The lines are long especially at night I recommend having for lunch instead of dinner. It is worth a try the restaurant is small but there is ample seating can get a bit crowded inside!

This place was amazing. Comfort food at its finest. Sometimes the line can be long but it seemed to Move quickly. You can really make the plates your own by starting with just the udon base and adding on items from the bar as you go. The tempura was the best I've ever had. My husband and I both commented on how soft but crunchy the tempura was. Sometimes it can be too hard but this was perfect. The cashier also took notice that we had a little one and took a tray to our table. They also have someone picking up and guiding where to sit. The place runs very efficiently. Would definitely recommend.

Saw the line and almost went somewhere else. However, my coworker said "It moves faster than you'd think and it's well worth the wait". Was it ever. The ordering was confusing at first but the staff was nice enough to help/guide with any questions. I was also lucky enough to have my coworker tell me what was good and what wasn't. The food was delish!! The cleaners were really good about clearing tables and keeping up with the fast paced turnover of customers, and it works great. I can't wait to get back.

I rarely get to eat at this location since there's no parking. If I'm here for other reasons, I'll definitely make it work. Lunch was a deal and it was good. Simple and friendly workers. And the tables are always being wiped down once a party is done. Service is amazing. Food is yummy. The price is great. What more could you ask for.

Marugame is an absolute must visit in Waikiki! We've been here multiple times and are always blown away by the food. Even though it can get packed, the line moves surprisingly fast, and the staff always manages to find you a table. They even go out of their way to help my kids carry their trays! We love the seamless Japanese ordering concept where you grab your udon and sides like a huge variety of tempura, gyoza, and drinks before paying and sitting down. We've tried the tonkotsu, nikutama, beef, and curry udon, and every single bowl has been packed with rich, delicious flavor. We rave about this place to everyone and it's at the top of our Waikiki itinerary every single trip!

Best meal we had in Waikiki, hands down. Simple, comforting and those noodles literally melt in your mouth. The broth with the Kake is so good, as is the Dashi sauce (can't go wrong with either but i'm more of a broth person!). My partner had gotten the chickenkatsu with noodles and he loved it. You can add in things like veggies or chasu if you want. The line initially was off putting but we stuck it out & tbh it moved pretty efficiently. Waited about 30 minutes in line. Seating inside & things move efficiently. You have the opportunity to go down a lunch line type set up (think grab a tray and ask for what you want) and add a variety of tempura to your plate after you order your main. So good we went back twice!

It's a rare treat when I fall in love with a place and rave about it so much that I have to have it again. Not only that, but I have to bring my significant other along to share in the deliciousness! I don't know how I'm just now talking about Marugame Udon. When I first came here, my friend and I decided to give it a try because we saw the longest line and wanted to see what all the hype was about. There was a couple in front of us who said they come here every time they visit Hawaiʻi and that it's a must-do stop on every trip. When you walk in, it's a small place. You can watch a team member washing the noodles and portioning them into bowls right in front of you. Then you choose your bowl size, small or large, and select your broth. After that, you get to choose from a variety of fried items and other à la carte options displayed on a warmer. Seating can be limited because of how busy this place gets. You line up to get your food, pay for it, grab your condiments, utensils, and a cup of water, then find a seat and enjoy. I've already been here twice, and after writing about my experience, I need to make a third visit happen very soon! There are not enough days off in a week to enjoy all of the amazing food on this island, but I'm going to do my best to experience as many places as I can. This place is totally worth the 45-minute commute from Wahiawa.

One of our go to spots when we're in town. Always long lines here, so go either early or late for your meal time. If you do end up standing in line when it wraps around the building, don't worry the line goes a bit faster than it looks. The go to here is the nikutama. It's their best seller for a reason. That slightly sweet broth enriched with fresh, thick noodles and accoutrement just hits hard.

Do u guys see the hair in the fish cake sign too!

Can't go wrong with handmade udon, karaage chicken, sweet potato and mushroom tempura. Service is nothing special. Just like a lunch line where u tell them what u want and move on to the cashier. As far as the ambiance it's kind of messy a little dirty. It's the kind of place u just eat and go. Not a place to hangout with people. Pricing went up like 5-6$ but still affordable.

Ohhhh myyyy goshhh AMAZING, DELICIOUS! We waited in a fairly long line, but it moved fast. One thing I learned about Waikiki hot spots, just accept you'll be waiting in lines. This spot was worth it though. It's nothing fancy, it's like a conveyor belt of goodness. They make fresh udon in house and you can literally see them making the pasta real time. We ordered the CURRY NIKUTAMA 10/5 Chicken katsu 4/5 Shrimp Tempura 3/5 Cheese tempura 5/5 (A MUST) The food surpassed my expectations and beyond. It was so flavorful, rich, and creamy. It came with a beef, the fresh udon, a curry sauce, egg, and some green onions. The cheese tempura was my fave side it was literally like having a mozzarella stick out tempura style. Amazing. It's a pretty large space inside that can accommodate groups if needed. They also have outdoor seating in the back of the restaurant. I need to come back to Waikiki just for this spot

Excellent udon. Chicken Katsu Curry was great, though truth be told, I prefer Katsu sauce to curry with this dish. However, nothing wrong with either the Katsu or with the curry sauce. Self-service and SUPER fast food! This is what fast food strives to be had it high-quality food. Ambiance? None. It's about the food...and rightly so. Don't miss this place.

    Keisha L.

Fresh Udon! Amazing! Lines can get long and there is a sign that says a NO SAVING SEATS. Can get pretty loud and busy fast. Only issues were the leaking AC vents that are above the tables

    Taylor C.

The long lines here just make sense. You can literally see them making the noodles as you order. The noodles are so good and definitely taste fresh made. You will pick your noodle bowl and then pick up a second plate if you'd like to pick up some tempura as well. The gyoza were especially good. So much food at a great price and it tasted amazing. Not much else to ask for. A definite must go.

Are all of the broths made of beef and pork? I eat fish, chicken eggs etc.

The miso and tan tan udon are both vegan. The dashi is also pescatarian-friendly.

Does the beef udon have eggs because I can't eat eggs?

You can just get the niku (beef) udon The NikuTama is the one with egg. Both are really good

    Do they have high chairs?

Yes! they do. They're located near the "exit" at this location

Is there any chicken udon option, like the broth can be made of chicken?

There are no chicken Udon Options, Beef and Pork

Where do people park? Are there any suggested places?

International marketplace! If you buy something from somewhere (usually minimum of $10), they'll validate your parking.

How is this place halal or is it not?

There are certain location of this place that are halal, so please just call and ask, they are very nice.

Do they offer gluten free noodles?

From my understanding, they do not.

Coming with my large family of 15, what time would be the best time to come?

Maybe around 3pm. That was the only time I didn't see a line when I was there last week

Hello, are you taking reservations for April 2022?

From previous experience, no reservations. Lineup or do delivery, like Uber Eats or Door Dash.

Is it open for the 25th?

    Dec?

Do you have an gluten free udon options?

Rice noodles are available - which are gluten-free. That's not to say there is no cross-contamination with wheat or other gluten-bearing foods (if you are truly allergic to gluten), but yes they have noodles that are not made with gluten. You can…

Is it MaruKame or MaruGame? And is it the same one they have at San Francisco Stonestown mall?

It's both. The name on the outside of the building is Marukame, but it's the same as Marukame in SF.

Do the have vegetarian broth I don't eat meat, I'm not vegan just no meat?

They don’t take reservations. I hear the least busy time, about 30 min wait, is 1pm-2pm.

    Gluten free option?

The udon has wheat and they only have one kind and u will see it being made there. But they do make shrimp tempura and fish cakes there. Not sure what kind of flour is used for the batter.

Are there vegan and gluten free options?

    What udon do you recommend?

Kake is the standard. I think it's great, and you can add your toppings of choice

However, the service is very friendly! I had the deluxe pork loin set which includes rice, salad, soup, and curry sauce. The meat was extremely tender, but the coating was a touch oiler than I am used to. The curry sauce was really tasty and was a nice addition to the katsu! Since it was late, we noticed the back of house staff help the front. Everyone was so friendly and food comes out fast. We couldn't decide if eating it with chopsticks or spoon was better. With chopsticks, you might not get enough sauce. But you could taste the layers of flavor.
