Stopped in Saturday afternoon, there was a very friendly young lady working the counter. She answered out questions and was very helpful . We managed to get the last 2 spiral croissants, a cookies and cream and dark chocolate filling. Also got a hokiado crepe cake, hazel nut tart, and a mini cake (bosan or something, don't remember). The crossaisnt were filled to the max fill filling and crispy/crunchy on the outside and outstanding. My kid devored the crepe cake, but it was very delicious as I got to try a bit of it. The hazelnut tart was very rich, could have used a nice coffee to go with it but it was also very good. The mini cake was also very good, the custard filling was excellent. Overall good service. Marvel cake took the Bay Area by storm by churning out the viral spiral croissants, which I undoubtedly had to try here. TBH they are a little overhyped in my opinion. The dense filling takes away from the flaky laminated layers you want to find in a good croissant. Nonetheless, these are still a delightful pastry. This location in downtown Palo Alto sells them Wednesday through Friday starting at 3pm. I arrived shortly after 4pm on a Wednesday and they had plenty! There was no line either. I'm not sure if they have a specific rotation of flavors but they had chocolate and pumpkin spice available at this time. What I really enjoyed was the chocolate mousse tart. They are designed into cute pink and red flower shapes, layered with a silky chocolate mouse, chocolate tart filling, and shell. I will definitely be picking this up again. Service was great. Beautiful pastries but definitely in the pricey side. Strawberry tart was light but still decadent. I ate it the next day so the bottom wafer biscuit was a little soft but still very delicious. The croissant spirals were so unique but a little hard to eat. They were very big. Like one of the most recent reviews called out, the employees here are rude and unprofessional. They need to be retrained. Two ladies who took the orders and heated up pastries could not get the order right for 15 mins, then they forgot the pastries in the oven (we came in and asked about it then they were burned)- they had to heat up new ones. On our way to dinner at Osteria on Saturday, December 23, 2023, we stumbled upon Marvel Cake in Palo Alto (They are listed as being located on University Avenue because the front of their door faces University, but they are actually physically located on Ramona Street). We stepped in to check out the boutique café and were intrigued by the beautifully sophisticated confectionaries displayed in the shelves. Instantly, we knew that we would return for some after meal drinks and sweets. We made it back just four days later on the afternoon of Wednesday, December 27, 2023, at around 3 PM. The tiny patisserie offers both indoor and outdoor seating, but you should be prepared to take your order to go because there is limited seating that quickly fills up at any time. As you enter, you are greeted by the front window display of their offerings of viennoiseries such as croissants, galettes, and other French baked goods. The venue is pristine and simple in décor, mainly white from ceiling to floor, which makes their vibrantly colourful macarons, assorted mousse tarts, and variety of layer cakes pop out and entice you. In addition to our drinks (two Americanos at $5 each, an Espresso for $4, and one French Tea $6), we ordered a few desserts: Tiramisu Crepe Cake ($12, but I was charged $12.50, WEIRD! It was only a $0.50 overcharge, but still, this should not happen.) - Also known as Tiramisu Mille Crêpes Cake from Anton SV Pâtisserie. My niece, Shana, seemed to enjoy this slice. Pistachio Crepe Cake ($12) - AKA Pistachio Mille Crêpes Cake also from Anton SV Pâtisserie, Mom thought that her slice was very nice. I had a bite and was a bit disappointed because I was hoping for more of a pistachio flavour. I didn't taste any hint of the nut, unfortunately. Matcha Crepe Cake ($12) - I have had this matcha cake before from somewhere else and, surprisingly, this version, Anton SV Pâtisserie's Matcha Mille Crêpes Cake, wasn't as impressively tasty. Lavender Macaron ($5) - If you are a lavender aficionado like me, this Parisian meringue-based confection is for you. Each bite bursted with flavour of the purple plant. I haven't really been a big fan of macarons, but this one was delish. Just pricey at $5 for such an itty-bitty treat. The Special Macarons are $6. Hope that they are just as yummy or orgasmic! Napoleon ($9.50) - Uncle Bolo ordered this. This big slice of layers of puff pastry and whipped cream topped with pistachios was surprisingly light. Mom really liked this item. Marvel Cake is not the place to go for a cheap sweet fix. Service was notably excellent. I came in with my heart set on either a Lavender Latte, Matcha Latte, or Turkish coffee, but after the guy at the counter gave me his honest opinion on those drinks (Lavender Latte disappointingly lacks the flavour for which it is named, Matcha Latte is unimpressive, Turkish coffee is gritty and overpriced), I settled for the Espresso. I really appreciated the insight. It was clear that customer experience was priority and this is so worthy of mention and applause. Will I return? My partner and I have been a fan of Marvel cake for years, even before they opened up the PA location. We will grab a red velvet cupcake every single time we're in PA, so far we have tried pretty much all of their pastry. The red velvet is still delicious, but the service has gone down to a new level! The younger looking female staff (she appears to be white) works on the weekend is absolutely rude and so unprofessional. When I ask if I could use the restroom, she didn't even look at me and said the restroom is out of order, then walked right past me like I don't even exist, all my friends were given an attitude from this girl during the time we were there. It seems they really don't like people sitting in their space, regardless how many items you've ordered. You can sense the impatience and how much they're annoyed. read more

Elated to find out that Marvel opened up in Palo Alto while searching through Yelp! Even better is that it hasn't been heard through the grapevine yet so it's still a little known secret for now. I was hoping to grab some of the highly coveted spiral croissants but managed expectations since it was already after 4pm. Lo and behold, half a tray were available in two flavors: mango-passionfruit and chocolate. The bakery had a French/European flair which was charming, while slightly tucked away from the hustle and bustle of University Ave. The young lady that served us was friendly and welcoming while answering all my questions about the pastries and the shop! MANGO-PASSIONFRUIT SPIRAL CROISSANT: delightful mango and passionfruit-forward pastry cream/custard filling. It was ever so tart and sweet. The croissant itself and lamination were perfect honestly. The smooth cream with the flaky crispy exterior was a fantastic combination! CHOCOLATE SPIRAL CROISSANT: Very generous portion of semi-sweet chocolate filling oozed out with every bite. The croissant was no different from its fruity counterpart. While I think the pastries were delicious, I'm not sure that $7.50 is a reasonable price tag for each croissant. Wow, this bakery is gorgeous! I love the interior with fresh flowers, fluffy pillows and white granite cafe tables. And the pastries! Not too many bakeries offer crepe cakes and this one had 3 different flavors! I ordered the napoleon (which is apparently what they are known for) and the iced rose latte.... Both delicious! I was in the area on a Friday around noon, saw on Yelp that they have their spiral croissant on Fridays, so stopped by. Unfortunately I was informed that on Fridays they start selling these at 3pm. Leek Parmesan Croissant ($8) - *3.75* - I did re-heat this one prior to eating, and it was still good. Croissant was flaky, and had overall good flavor (parmesan or leek flavor was not overpowering). The bottom layers of the croissant was just a little dough-y, but it didn't really affect the taste or texture too much. Napoleon ($9.5) - *3.75* - nice addition of the pistachio layer. I didn't realize until after I came around 1pm that they don't have the spiral croissants available at this spot yet. At first I just assumed that their sold out early. Nonetheless I grabbed a butter croissant to go. Appearance wise it's not very exciting and looks flatter and less flaky than a bakery croissant. The flavor is ok but too heavy. It was not too sweet but the filling was more like whipped cream than cream which was a bit disappointing. I liked the addition of the pistachios. We swung by to pick up dessert to go after having dinner nearby. The store is stunning, as are the desserts. I think they were understaffed because after a couple minutes we had to holler to the back to get someone's attention. We ordered two slices of the crepe cakes: mango and tiramisu. The cake slices were beautifully packed in individual boxes, and given to us in an equally beautiful bag. My wife asked if there was a restroom available, and they never answered her, which was a bummer. The cakes were delicious, not something I'd get again, but that's a personal preference due to the texture.
