I was a bit underwhelmed by this place. The quality was def not on par w/the price here, for me, $6+ for a mediocre bfast sammie that super bland (added some Sriracha just to have some semblance of flavor) and smallish and the coffee was also subpar, especially for the price. I got a red-eye and the only thing I could taste about the espresso shot in it was that, like the house coffee, it was burnt. It also took an oddly long time for my sandwich to come out, even though I was literally one of two people in the place just after 9am on a Sat morning? I really wanted to like this place and I did like the cute, fun, sassy diner vibe, but I can't get behind a place where you instantly have buyer's remorse and order envy for possibly anything else on the menu (insert sad face emoji here). Maybe I should have gone w/a waffle instead of the bfast sandwich, not sure, but honestly, it should not have mattered. read more

One of the worker's noticed my car had been rear ended in the parking lot and called it to my attention. We got the driver's attention and made him stop. Legit Belgian waffles (the kind with the sugar cubes in them!) made in a quaint shop right on Red River. The menu has a good mix of breakfast sandwiches and regular sandwiches. And of course the waffles! I had the Frat Boy which is basically a bagel egg sandwich. The sandwich was served piping HOT. Nice layer of eggs on top a sausage patty. Easy and delicious -- my type of breakfast sandwich! My friend had a waffle topped with strawberry and Nutella, which looked fabulous. I had to order a waffle (it was 1/2 off for National Waffle Day, after all) and it was probably one of the best waffles in town. Yeasty, crusty but not overly sweet. If I went to UT Austin I'm pretty sure I'd be here chowing down on waffles all the time. Let's start with the okay and move toward the magical. My sandwich was pretty good: the local- egg, avocado, queso fresco on multigrain- although was a little...flat... (literally) for lack of a better word. There wasn't much to it although it certainly wasn't bad by any means. I did opt for the most basic sandwich though so that's on me. My friend got the frat boy on an everything bagel which looked pretty darn good. We split a liege waffle covered with cinnamon, chocolate sauce, and cream cheese, and THAT was where the magic lies. Yum yum YUM. Chewy and sweet and yeasty, exactly how a waffle should be. The serving was small for the price ($6.99) but it was delicious. This cozy feeling diner is a real good spot for a morning bite, coffee, smoothies and other breakfast stuff. For its size, the friendly staff is normally quick getting orders out and never cut corners on their quality. I enjoy ordering the Olsen, a sweet creamy smoothie, their chai latte is also real good. And if I'm hungry the honey mustard chicken wrap and their paninis are a real good go-to as well. Due to its fun size, large groups may be hard for the cafe to accommodate the table space if their booths are taken, I enjoy coming here by myself or with a friend. They are lgbtq friendly, and have a very courteous staff. On mondays there is a discount for students and permanent discounts for health workers. Great lil spot by campus with delicious breakfast items. We sat in a booth of 2 available, their coffee was great for my taste. I wanted to ask about their coffee beans but got distracted with my Mary J blueberry waffle and the migas bowl. Stopped by here on a whim and was completely blown away by how delicious and awesome this place was. I can't have caffeine, so I'm used to servers rolling their eyes when I ask for decaf options, but the cashier here was super sweet and thoughtful and offered me to try the chai since they didn't have decaf. It was deeeelicious. We also had the breakfast croissant sandwiches and they were so good, toasted & crispy, lots of flavor, and not crazy priced. Houstonian here First impression - It's dark in here, bc it's so dark it makes it look a little unsanitary, though I'm sure that's not the case. There is no "lobby/waiting" space to like wait and look at menu, there was also no seating when we walked in to sit and look over the menu. I felt like I was in the way while looking over the menu & this is why I gave it 4/5 stars. I ordered a wrap & caramel iced latte and it was yummy, had to ask for a little extra caramel as I like my coffee slightly sweeter but after that it was great. No complaints with my order. read more

I love Mary's cafe! It's one of the only small cafes around that services your basic go to handheld breakfast sandwiches at a fair price and decent turn over time. With this, means they are typically pretty busy (especially in the mornings) but calling ahead saves you wait time (which never is too long to begin with). Over the last couple years the staff has been nothing but friendly, literally almost always greeted with some sort of smile. The brick and mortar is pretty small in size so if you're planning on dinning in don't get you dreams crushed if you can't sit inside. They do have some nice seating directly outside (covered but limited as well) Coffee is solid and so is the food. read more

My Family was wanting a quick breakfast at a local established business. This was to get an idea of the local fare and feel of the area. This Café is close to three University of Texas, almost within walking distance ~~~ though we drove to get here. It is in the middle of a quaint little strip mall, with minimal parking. Most people seem to walk here or travel by bike because of the student activities close to the university. You need to be a little patient because it can get busy quickly! But the wait is well worth it. The menu is not lacking, and both the service and food pairs well with each other. I ordered the Belgian Waffle with bananas and Nutella! WOW! It was great!... Austin is a town for foodies. But on this trip, my wife and I went from one sub-par restaurant to another - spending big bucks and leaving sad - UNTIL we came to Mary's. We were ushered into Austin food bliss! . We had the Barry Tyler Moore waffle and the Local Toast. The toast was the best breakfast sandwich - my wife said - she had ever eaten. Mary's is a super cute, quaint café that's super close to the UT campus (I drove there, but I could theoretically walk from campus). I love their theme- they decorated their café with a bunch of Mary's from pop culture, and it's fantastic. I got their café au lait and loved it! For food, we got savory and sweet: a wrap and a waffle. Their waffles are AMAZING. We ordered the Berry Tyler Moore, which comes with strawberries, blueberries, and whipped cream. Their waffles are sweet and coated with caramelized sugar, and they coat it a perfect amount so it's amazingly tasty, but not sickeningly sweet. After taking my son to St. David's hospital I checked out this sweet spot just down the road. I love finding new restaurants in the the city where I live and being wowed by great flavorful food. I had one of the breakfast bagel sandwiches which was very tasty and my family loved all of the other sandwiches we ordered If you come here you must try the cookies. I have passed this place several times and looked up the menu and thought it looked ok. I stopped in today today to check it out. I walked in and was pleasantly surprised that is was very busy. I love to see small local business hopping like this. I ended up getting the croissant breakfast sandwich. And OJ and it was a big OJ not one of these small cups for 8.00. The food came out fast and good. It seems like they are known for their waffles. But I don't really eat waffles. But I may have to try one next time. You walk in and you feel a very relaxed place. You can tell it is a GLBTQ owned business with all the Mary and pictures on the wall of women named Mary. And I understand that this place is dedicated to the owners mom Mary. If I had one thing to say to the owner is that it is a little off putting to see the gal at the counter taking the orders sitting on a stool and having her leg up on the counter. And she was like that most the time I was there. She even had her foot on the counter at one point. That's kinda weird never seen that in an restaurant. We came here after eating at an Italian place with no gelato on the dessert menu. Seriously? Yelp to the rescue. I think there were 8 or 10 different flavors of gelato. And granted, this wasn't just your plain old raspberry, vanilla, chocolate, whatever. This had character. The raspberry was mixed with homemade ladyfingers. Yum! And the vanilla was mixed with their homemade chocolate chips. There was even popcorn with the yummy stuff from Cornucopia next door. I can't remember all of them, but they were delicious. I decided on the Fruit Loop (raspberry with ladyfingers). It was delicious. My date had the vanilla chocolate chip gelato (can't remember the fancy name) & one of their homemade chocolate banana waffles. OMG was it good. This place is still pretty new (open a couple of months) & their selection is growing. I think I'd like to try one of their breakfast options next time. I'll be back! read more

Brunch time! Although being walking distance from UT campus, I never knew this place existed until a friend brought us here. Driving or walking by, you can't miss their sign out front and their interior decor is just as interesting. It's a small place with booths at the window, several small tables, and a couch. What a place appropriate for Austin! Their menu covers waffles, coffee, smoothies, sandwiches, tacos, and salads. Seriously, all breakfast places should have a sampler dish available! Their waffles looked pretty good so I ordered an Original Leige Waffle with chocolate chips mixed in and topped with bananas and strawberries. Their online menu has a list of different waffles, but you really just make your own. First impression when it came out was that it looks kind of small. Don't worry, it isn't. I definitely had to work my way through to the end and the fruit tasted fresh. The waffle was a bit dense for me, so I might consider having the bananas mixed in or topped with a sauce the next time I get it. The sandwiches also looked pretty good too, and you also get $2 off a breakfast sandwich when you check in! Missed out on their Gelato Pops too, so another excuse to come back. There's only one or two cooks, so the food will take a while to come out. Make sure you're not in a rush. I was the last of a group of 8 to order, and my waffle took about 30 minutes.
