This little joint is designed to be a quick, to-go place, although there is some seating inside and outside as well. You order at the counter and they give you a buzzer that'll notify you when your order is ready. There's a table stocked full of wasabi, soy sauce, napkins, chopsticks and such to load up your bag if you're taking your order to-go. +1 for having hand wipes and a big jug of hand sanitizer out for all to use. They mostly have rolls here so obviously this caters more towards American tastes. I'm not a huge fan of Cali Rolls in general (from anywhere) so I stayed away from those. My favorites so far are the Caterpillar Roll and Dragon Roll. It's underrated, but their sushi rice is on point! The lady working at the register is also so sweet! Very good, fresh, and tasty sushi. Prices are very reasonable and service is fast. Something I say was that they had trays if nori with rice already on it which speeds up the sushi making process and thus speeds up service. For California rolls, you have the choice of imitation or real crab. I had the imitation version and that was very good. Such a great deal! This review will be based on value of this place. I visited here for my quick lunch. I have seen this place for a while but never had a chance to try it. Oh well, It was great. I can't say this the best sushi I have ever had. However It has really value! It was really quick first of all. I ordered lunch special roll. I liked the concept of walk-up sushi place. We ordered four types of rolls. #7 unagi: met expectation #11 hamachi: did not appreciate the chopped up fish. Roll did not hold up well. #17 salmon: Our pick among the order. #200 spider: Did not appear to be freshly fried. OK but we will probably skip in future. In general, rice was too warm for rolls. Rolls don't hold up well and so this is the place if you are working on your chopstick skill. Rice is not seasoned surprisingly. At least the rolls were not salty. Overall, it's a good place for quick bite. Probably not an ideal place if you want to impress your date. Of course some may appreciate practical aspect of you. You just never know... read more

There is way too much competition for this restaurant to survive. My wife ordered sushi from here and had to throw it out because the fish was spoiled. It's so hard these days when taking out from restaurants as you often don't see the food until you unwrap it after a drive home. I highly recommend eating there only so you can get better customer service. Rumble Fish across the street is a much nicer sushi establishment. read more

The best thing about my experience was the good customer service. I was greeted when I walked in and as I approached the counter I realized there was no shortage of menus. They are several places up on the wall. There isn't much "cooked" sushi, as the host told me there's no kitchen. It seemed like a to-go place with a few small tables just in case someone wants to stay a while. The sushi was okay. 3.5 stars. A great place for fast food style affordable Japanese sushi. Very efficient and fast service, friendly staff :) Tried several nigiri and a spicy hamachi roll. Salmon for the nigiri was the best part of the meal as the salmon was fresh and sweet! The hamachi nigiri was okay but the hamachi wasn't as fresh so there was a strong fishy after taste. However, the spicy hamachi roll was yummy! Maybe it was cuz the fish was marinated for a long time you don't taste the not so fresh fish taste afterwards. Also, You don't see many spicy hamachi rolls option in many sushi joints so I had to try it - approved :) Crab nigiri was not good, the crab tasted weird and the texture was weird...hence the 3.5 stars (for this, the rice and the hamachi nigiri) Tuna nigiri was pretty OK. Rice isn't as fragrant and flavorful but we ain't complaining as the price is affordable $1.95 per nigiri $13 for nigiri set of 7 $6 for hamachi roll I won't go out of my way to go here to eat but if I'm in the neighborhood I'd totally come here once a week :) read more

I'm not sure I totally get the hype of the food from this place (maybe I should get something different? or am comparing this to sit down sushi places which is not a good comparison?) but the employees working that day stopped by were friendly and took the time to greet each person coming in, so I really appreciated that! On a weekday morning around lunch time, there was a steady flow of customers in and out the door. Prices are very fair for sushi. I had the 7 piece sashimi for $12.00. Overall, I appreciated that the sashimi was laid out nicely on a bed of mixed greens, and packaged with soy sauce and wasabi. The fish texture itself was slightly rough, but it was clear that the fish (3 salmon, 2 hamachi, 2 tuna) were fresh, without any sort of fishy taste. That said, I would always love it if each fish tasted more strongly of that fish's flavor (the hamachi was good in this regard). The color of the tuna was a good pink, but I tend to like the dark red tunas a bit more. The pieces were ~3" x 1" x 1/3", which is a bit on the thinner side, but not so thin that it felt like it was not worth your money. I'd stop in again for casual sushi that I know is fresh, and for the great service! read more

I got a couple spicy rolls here. Yellowtail, and salmon, and tuna. I felt my rolls were not spicy, and they were pretty inconsistent. It was still good, and if I hadn't ordered all spicy I'd think it was even better (did they forget to add the the heat?) I'd still return as it was good. For reasonably priced maki rolls and specialty rolls, Masa Sushi hits the spot. I picked up a spicy salmon and avocado maki roll ($5.75) and a dragon roll ($9.75) and both were tasty and very filling. I scarfed down both rolls but I was totally stuffed after; you could probably feed 2 people with 3 or so rolls. The prices are more than fair: for example, the dragon roll would easily cost $14-15 at a place like Sushi Tomi for similar quality. The only thing is, I didn't realize the dragon roll didn't come with fish; I'd like to try one of the specialty rolls with fish next time. I ordered through Yelp for takeout and the process was a breeze; my food was ready on time and fresh, and I helped myself to soy sauce and pickled ginger from a nearby table before heading out the door. The only difficulty is that the restaurant is located on Castro so I had to park a few blocks away. Also, the Yelp address is wrong! The restaurant is actually 180 Castro, located on the corner of Castro and Church and directly across from the Wells Fargo Bank. We went here on a Saturday afternoon just to get away from the busy Mountain View crowded restaurants. There was only one other person here besides us. Its a self serve place. We ordered from the special sushi rolls - #20 Dragon Sushi, #201 Debbie roll and #204 49er roll and a miso soup that came out in a coffee cup (really!!). The order came out quickly. We got 8 huge sushis of each. Both the dragon roll and Debbie roll were supposed to be crunch because they had in the menus mentioned that it was served on a tempura roll. Unfortunately they were not crunch, but lightly soggy. The soy sauce was slightly more salty than anny soy sauce and that I have had so far. Since it's a self serve place, they have the pickled ginger and wasabi and soy sauce pre packed in boxes that you can just take to your table. None of the flavors came out as amazing. They were just normal with nothing much to complain about. The sushis were huge and 3 special rolls was quite a lot for two people. Also, the sushis did fall apart a bit. This is a great take out place that is always fast and effecient. On this day, I ordered the shiitake rolls and they were really yummy. The shiitake mushromms were really tender and full of flavor. The avocado was frresh and just ripe. They to go work preparing your sushi as soon as you order. They work fast even when there's not a crowd. I've heard that they're supposed to work fast so they don't warm up the food with body temperature but I could be wrong. In any case, it's exciting to watch sushi chefs expertly fold and cut your sushi -- it's almost like a ballet. lol. My friend got some tuna rolls and we ended up sharing. The tun was really fresh and had just the right texture. Just added a bit of wasabi and soy sauce and the flavor is complete. I love this place. read more

Solid sushi. Nothing to write home about and yet here I am writing a review on Yelp. If I could I would give it 3.5 - not for the sushi but for the super fast delivery. What a great experience. Arrived in less than 30 minutes. That is definitely a land speed record here in South Bay where 80-120 minutes seems to be the norm. That was definitely the highlight. The sushi is good too. Salmon had a nice buttery texture and flavor. Tuna was solid, if a little on the cold side. Hamachi was tasty. Prices are very reasonable. I liked the Hot Mama roll and the Salmon inside and outside roll. Weirdly enough the soy sauce tasted off. So everything was good but nothing popped. It didn't have the super vibrant flavor that some places have and also didn't have the smooth texture of say sushi tomi.
