Cheap (for the area; outside the bay area or LA county these would be similar to full-service sit-down prices), but you get what you pay for. A lot of elements are premade and just sitting there in trays or in the fridge. Rice for rolls pre-spread sitting in the fridge. Fridges are death for rice. (Our rice seemed okay but we only got nigiri, and came in pretty soon after they opened for the day.) Might as well get sushi from Safeway if you're going to get rolls. Really sad since they're pretty friendly and nice. They even offer free chocolates! How can they afford to do that at these prices? The best value is the crab salad nigiri (actually a gunkan boat) and rolls with crab in it, because it's real crab and not imitation "krab" - again, how can they afford to charge these prices? 2 stars for the premade rolls and sad, pale, bland tuna, 3 for the rice and other fish (for the price), 4 for the taste of the crab salad, 5 for the fact that they even have real crab, 5 for the service (considering it's counter service). Please note that for a fast casual place my expectations are lower but even still this is a solid 3.5 for the price and convenience. And the taste wasn't too bad either. When they had the restaurant on San Antonio this was our go to Sushi place there was no issue with parking, super reasonable prices, great bar. As with all things they change since moving downtown and changing their target audience to people who live close enough to walk or work in downtown. What was once a very good sushi restaurant is now Mediocre at best. If you are downtown near all the other restaurants it's not worth the walk. read more

I wanted to give 3 stars for the food. I have ordered sushi and poke like 5-6 times. Their food is just about average,price is reasonable. If you just wanted to grab a quick lunch or crave for sushi/poke real bad,this place is the spot. Extra star for the staff, everyone there is very friendly,you can feel the hospitality from them once you open the door and walk inside. This place is fast food for sushi + poke bowls. Some items are priced very fairly (i.e. the rolls on their chalkboard) while others are a bit expensive for the portion sizes (i.e. poke bowls). Overall the service is quick, the location is clean, and the workers are really nice--they greet you as you enter and leave. Definitely a casual place as everyone has stated. Across the way from Wells Fargo on Castro Street, Masa Sushi is one of my go to places in downtown for take out. This is a hidden gym with solid sushi and Poki. The place is fairly small and seats about 40 max. You order, pay and pick up at the counter, and bus your own trays. Don't expect a waiter/waitress as they have no wait staff. The sushi is as good as any other place in Mountain view and they use good pieces of sashimi/fish. Great lunch deal. read more

This is really just a self-serve, fast-food spin-off of another (up to this point unidentified) sushi place - they get their main ingredients delivered (e.g. the tempura shrimp) and then just put it together to an uninspired sushi roll. Quick and cost saving for the restaurant. The rolls lack flavor, uniqueness, and freshness - if you're willing to sacrifice all of that for saving a few bucks then please go for it. Otherwise you're better off at Sushi Tomo on Dana. There seems to be a curse on Castro St - not a single restaurant here has woo-ed me yet, and I've tried a few. Sad! read more

I have been waiting for this place to open since I saw the stylish sign and interior being built! They just opened a day ago, and are already very busy for dinner when I went to grab a bite! Masa Sushi Japan is a to-go sushi kind of place. It's small, with some table seating and stools along the window. It's modern, clean, and minimal inside. You're handed your freshly made sushi and sauces in a plastic container and offered a bag and chopsticks, all ready to go! Perfect for people who are looking for a quick sushi meal! Their rolls range from $5-$15, and they have 1pc nigiri for $1.75. They also have some really tempting Sushi Combo deals with 12 pieces of sushi for $9-$15! That's a great deal, and sounds super filling, as my 8 piece roll already had me stuffed! I was greeted happily by the owner as he helped the people in front of me at the register. I ordered a Rainbow Roll, and picked it up at the side counter from the on-duty sushi chef! A nice personal touch. The Rainbow Roll sounded like it was loaded with sashimi from the menu! It has slices of tuna, ebi, hamachi, salmon, unagi, and roe on top, with imitation crab and avocado inside. It was on the pricier end, at $13.50 for 8 pieces, but it was super filling! I won't be too harsh on a first review of a newly opened restaurant, but I will say that I would have preferred much larger chunks of fish (they very thinly cut), and a more tightly wrapped roll! Given that they've only been open for two days, I am certain things will only improve. In the end, I really liked the clean, bright, modern decor, and the friendly owner at the register. I'd drop by again for a quick sushi run if I'm busy and don't want to walk all the way across Castro St. to a sit-down restaurant! read more

Decent/average sushi if you're in a hurry. Think one level above the sushi/sashimi you can get at Safeway. You place your order, the chefs make the meal, and place them in "to-go" plastic containers. We ordered edamame, tempura roll, caterpillar roll, spider roll, and 7pc sashimi. Everything was okay. The spider rolls were a bit too big, making it virtually impossible to hold with chopsticks. Surprisingly good fish quality for a small mostly takeaway place. It came to light that the owner is the same as Masa Sushi on San Antonio near the old Dittmer's building. Got the shiromagura tataki and a sashimi plate of sake and hamachi. Solid flavors but for spending almost $20 I was still decently hungry after. Finally I tried this yesterday with my hubby. We had lunch after my doc appointment at KP. We ordered a caterpillar roll, a rainbow roll, 4-pc nigiri, and a salmon roll. (yep, we eat a lot). The salmon roll looked sloppy. But the caterpillar roll and rainbow roll looked tight and legit. The 4-pc nigiri was ok - I mean - this is a fast food style sushi joint setup so I don't expect this to be super tight (just like as if we were eating the affordable sushi chain in Japan). The ingredient wise, it's up to standard. The rolls were all very tasty. Can't complain! I think this is a nice addition of lunch option to people who work nearby - if they want to splurge on a sushi roll in a snap and rush back to the office and keep working - this is it! But I just wouldn't drive over just to have lunch here - the price is comparable to a Japanese Resturant so why not head to other real restaurants if I have to drive with my coworkers for 15 mins to get lunch, right? read more

I find this place simple, fast and a friendly place to have a quick bite of sushi. My kids and wife like this place and we usually come here after Sunday mass at St Joseph. So far no food poisoning and we're all still alive. Now for all those who wrote reviews and made a comparison to Sushi Tomi- shame on you folks!! This place is not a sit-down on the floor painfully on your ass cramped, higher scale restaurant, so if you're going to make comparisons, try to do it fairly. SMH Bottom line is this- I'm giving it 4 stars and no I don't own or know the owners of this place. This is based on my experience and so far it's great. read more

Yay, another sushi place on Castro! Well, kind of. This is further down from most of the restaurants, close to Posh Bagel. First impression, the man who took our order was Japanese (I speak Japanese) and was very friendly. I didn't want a spicy salmon roll and asked to make it non-spicy and he said they can make adjustments like that easily. Also ordered the rock n roll and hamachi rolls. Hamachi wasn't very good. I thought the cucumber was a weird mix with the hamachi (tasted too sour), but the rock n roll and salmon roll were very good. I actually like how the restaurant is casual and everything is in to-go containers. In case you can't finish some food, you already have the box. Will definitely be coming back! read more

Castro street in Mountain View is the place where you can find any kind of restaurants and cafes on your preferences. I was starving and heading for the dinner and decided to go to Kebab house, but saw the Sushi sign and stoped here. This place is really nice. Staff is frendly and they are really fast. I had Miso soup and Phili roll's . They don't have much spaces where you can seat, just couple tables inside and couple outside. Not so expensive, i paid for the soup and two roll's around 17$. read more

Masa Sushi was a huge disappointment... I came here expecting some pretty bomb sushi but left unsatisfied and a empty wallet. The service was good but the food just didn't come up. I got the Rainbow roll and it was just SO mediocre. I expected so much more because it did cost $12.50. Like what!? That's a lot for a Rainbow roll and it just didn't seem like it was worth that at ALL. The fish was okay but didn't taste good or great. The sauce was poorly seasoned and the roll was loose. In conclusion I was just very unhappy with the whole experience because I paid a good price expecting some good sushi but instead left with some sad sushi. 2/5 Would maybeeeee come again... Can't believe there is good, fresh sushi to be found for so cheap! We got a spider roll and a hand roll/sashimi combo for all of $20. Service was super nice and fast. The spider roll was huge, it totally fell apart while I was trying to eat it, but luckily I wasn't looking to impress anyone anyway. My husband said his salmon sashimi was super fresh and tasty. The way they made some of these rolls looks identical to a grocery store. I ordered a hot momma and they took the California roll out of the fridge already made. And all the rice was pre-done stuck to the seaweed wrap in the fridge. This makes the rice not as good. read more

I eat here often since it's close to work. They have many special rolls and they are all delicious! The ingredients are fresh and the service is efficient and fast. They have a good setup and a system. They have good lunch combo options, which includes sushi roll, a drink and an appetizer. You have various options to choose from for drinks and appetizers. I always get the combo with one of the special roll, miso soup as my drink and either edamame or gyoza as my appetizer and it's very tasty. They have the soy sauce, ginger, wasabi etc. all packed into mini to go containers so you just grab and go. It's a good place to get sushi - it's pretty affordable and yummy!
