I had the Tikka Masala. It was okay, nothing memorable, but not at all bad. Definitely tasted more american than not, but it was still flavorful and I'd go back if I was in the area. I think the real appeal of this place is it's good for groups that can't decide what they want to eat. I was actually pretty sad they didn't have indian chinese food, but instead just Indian or chinese food. Oh well. Also, the Samosas were pretty not good, I would probably avoid those in the future. This place is so BOMB! Boyfriend and I stopped in for a quick bite, I got the Mongolian chicken with fried rice and he got the spicy chicken65 with garlic naan. We both cleared out plates, and this almost never happens for me. The staff was so so friendly, even took out time to explain the popular dishes, and the menu in its entirety. This eatery is an all time favorite lunch spot, the portions are generous and every dish has a savory, spicy kick. The Tikka Masala and Mughala Chicken are my favorites, for the richness of the dish and comfort-food value. I have tried other casual fusion restaurants, but I prefer the food, interaction and atmosphere at Masala Wok's Arbor location. At first glance, the location did not appeal to me, but I the quality of food, and it's preparation and the management won me over. The servings are also colossal; generally good for two meals. Honestly, the positive energy of emanating from Samia and Sanjay, (the owner's) and the rest of the employees won me over and keep me coming back on a weekly basis. Masala Wok is one of my favorite Indian and Asian restaurants in Austin. I have tried different items on the menu but my favorite of all are the following: Mughlai Paneer, Malai Kofta, Chicken Biryani and Rice & Noodles. It's not just because of the food, but the amazing hospitality and services that I really love this place. I would like to especially call out the name of Rajiv who has always welcome us with a smile at Masala Wok, even at times when I have placed order right before the closing time. It's funny. The previous person to comment said just about the opposite of what I was thinking. While I agree the quality was very so so, I was rather disappointed in the quantity for the price. There were like 3-4 chunks of meat in my curry max. For $8.25 that is a total ripoff. And the lady at the cahier tried to sting me an extra dollar for garic on my nan by asking if I wanted it as an option, but not telling me it was more. I took it back when I saw on the ticket I had been charged more, but it struck me as rather sneaky to be asking which I wanted and not mention it was extra in price. I have only lived in Austin a couple years, I can already list at least a half dozen Indian restaurants that exceed this place in price and quantity. If you are as far North as Masala Wok, just go over to Hot Breads Bakery and Cafe on McNeil East side of 183, and get way better Indian food and larger portions for cheaper. There are also a lot of better Indian restaurants on and off of N. Lamar. I rather like the new one on Anderson Ln too (it is inside the complex with the Walmart just North of Allendale)-- I think it is called Tarka; not the one across the street from the Walmart though. Not to be confused with Star of India across the street; it was pretty bad last time I was there. read more

We have had the worst experience with Masala Wok takeout twice. Once our order of Spring rolls was left out. We should have checked it before leaving the restaurant, I guess. But today we ordered Gobi Manchurian and when we came home and checked we were given Chicken manchurian. We are vegetarians and the order went to trash. We lost money twice there. Even if the taste is ok,they lack professionalism. Don't think we will ever go there or get takeover from there. read more

Affordable and delicious Indian Asian fusion meals. They have some good choices and varying levels of spiciness, so you can select the level of hotness you like in your food. The Southern curry and Dal were really tasty and come as a combo meal with rice and naan. Their samosas are deliciousness redefined with a well spiced filling and crispy pastry. I am yet to try any of their asian inspired meals but judging by the looks and reviews here it seems like they are pretty spot on too. read more

This is place where you order at the counter and the food is brought to your table. it is contemporary Indian/Asian food. The ambience is contemporary/cafe like. I really enjoyed my experience here. The food was fresh and reasonably flavorful, The quantity of food was huge and I got my unfinished portion to go, something which I seldom do. The lady at the counter was very knowledgeable about what could be done to meet my diet requirements -- vegetarian, no onions, no garlic. I have no problem recommending this place. I would give it 5 stars, but I hesitate to do that based on a single visit. read more

Combination of chinese + indian food. Well not really but that's what the place is about though..in a way. Their menu is contains Indian and Chinese dishes so that's what I meant. Also the interior designs is done in a way to reflect the asian and indian culture. This place is very clean and well organized. There are a bunch of other shops in the same plaza but people really like coming here so it's pretty popular around lunch time. They have one TV and I think that always has CNN on it which is a good thing. The manchurian and the chicken 65 are really good here. read more

First time to this location. I'll be the first to saying not an expert in Indian cuisine, but I do know what I like. I get the paneer tikka masala at every Indian restaurant that I go to. This has been my least favorite. It was really runny and had whole peppercorns in it . The rice was really clumpy and the naan was really thin and brittle, like a cracker. read more

I ordered Spicy Basil with paneer. If there was any basil in it the flavored had been cooked out of it. The paneer tasted like hard tofu. No flavor like one gets eating say paneer korma or saag paneer. Spices were overwhelmed by chili as all Indian restaurants seem to do. I don't know what the excessive chili craze is. I grew up in India and recently had a trip in India where all the food tasted so good without the excessive chili that most Indians seem to crave and the restaurants seem to cater to now. This is a fusion Indian/Asian restaurant, but I've never had any of the Asian dishes. I've been here a couple of times and gotten the Chicken Tikka Masala. Each time it's been very good. If you're looking for authentic Indian food, look elsewhere. The fact that it is a fast food type establishment should be an indicator of that already though. However, it is still tasty! I had chicken wrapped in naan with a side of masala dipping sauce. My cousin had some sort of spicy garlic noodle dish from the Asian side. Both were good and fairly inexpensive. Portions were huge. (It was next to impossible to communicate with the cashier because he seemed confused, on a side note.) My side salad with mango dressing was wilted and bland, so I wouldn't order another salad. Oh, and I had a mango lassi, which tasted like any mango lassi that you'd find in an Indian restaurant with a bit of a strange aftertaste. There is this red hot sauce, almost like a homemade sriracha, over by the plasticware/napkins/lemons and it is killer! I love Masala Wok, but the manager at the Arbor Walk location is rude and unprofessional. I usually order goan vindaloo and request white meat chicken. On my last to-go order, they used dark meat chicken and I kindly asked them to remake it. The manager refused and said I'd have to pay for a new entree. After a bit of back and forth and threatening a credit card charge back, he agreed to remake it. They remade it with more dark meat chicken!? Terrible experience.
