I walked in tonight not knowing anything about this restaurant. I walked out a big fan and will be back. The maitre'd was cordial, service was wonderful, the food was prepared exactly as we requested, the wait staff was extremely attentive, and we could hear each other without having to raise voices as often happens on Saturday nights in a busy restaurant. In the food desert that is the UES i didn't expect much but I was actually pleasantly surprised at the quality of food here. PROSCIUTTO - soft prosciutto, tender mozzarella, fine olive oil. This was good. CARPACCIO - , savory and a solid choice. Lemon complements it well. ORRECHIETTE - this was the star for me. Love a broccoli rabe and sausage situation and this didn't disappoint. Al dente pasta. Not bad at all. The Italian scene is competitive and it's hard to stand out, but this spot offers quality Italian with a bit of elevated vintage flair. Service was highly professional and attentive. Surprised it doesn't get more press! It's a great place that isn't too rowdy to take your friends. Great service and wonderful meal! We've been eyeing this spot for a while, this was previously Parma Nouva, however we've never been before. So I did not have a comparison with the previous spot. However this restaurant was great! We started with a bottle of montepulciano, which was reasonable. For our starters, we had the octopus and cuttlefish, and the eggplant parm. I loved the flavor of the eggplant parm! Additionally the octopus and cuttlefish was also a hit, loved the fava bean purée. For mains, we had the fettuccine with short ribs ragout (so this dish originally came with a tubal pasta, which was not homemade, so the server said I can swap out the pasta for a homemade one). And we also had the veal scaloppine, which had a divine capers sauce. Plus the broccoli rabe was excellent to pair. Overall lovely meal and service. Will absolutely return! read more

Service was great. Went there with a bunch of friends from Horace Mann. So it was just great to be with the group. The lump crab, salad was pretty bland. I had the shrimp special, which was extremely expensive and pretty good. Lori had the spaghetti which was OK. Drinks were well-made. We finally made it in for a meal at this rebooted UES Italian restaurant. Its now part of a small restaurant group. The space is beautiful. We really enjoyed the music that was played. David, our waiter, was charming and funny. We were started off with bread and excellent cheesy breadsticks. It turned out that they offered a restaurant week menu on a Saturday night. The salad was excellent and the eggplant parmigiana appetizer was amazing. I don't even like eggplant parmigiana and thought it was great. My wife got a chicken paillard with salad that she really liked. I had an excellent order of orata with clams in a light tomato sauce with clams accompanied by vegetables. Dessert was awesome tiramisu and passion fruit sorbet with berries. Everything we ate was delicious. This was a very nice introduction to a restaurant that we look forward to revisiting. read more

We came here for dinner and everything was amazing, including the food and service. We started with the fried artichoke and prosciutto with parmesan cheese. The fried artichokes were amazing. They didn't have breading on them and they were flash fried and so crispy and perfect. The prosciutto is freshly sliced and is also amazing. I then got the gnocchi with fresh mozzarella and it was one of the best gnocchi dishes I've ever tried. The table also got the lasagna bolognese and salmon which they loved. They also got the mushroom risotto special, but it wasn't one of the stand out dishes. We will definitely be coming back. read more

Faultless lunch! Delicious if not particularly original food and well chosen wine delivered quickly with friendly service. This place is not cheap, but look around... it isn't one of those cash-only neighborhood red-sauce slingers with three pastas, salmon, and a steak. There's more of a midtown vibe here. It's actually somewhat remarkable that such a bougie hood is home to a place with classier intentions. And that might be why there weren't more people eating when we visited. Maybe things would get a bit more frayed if the place were full, but for us it was perfect. read more

I don't know why I hadn't been here before - that was totally my mistake! I've walked by a million times and just hadn't looked inside, otherwise I would have been here before. The decor is simply italian, but with great taste. A beautifully decorated wine wall, good spacing between tables, a (somewhat) homey ambiance. The food is spectacular - granted I've only tried a couple of dishes, what we had was very, very good. Had the Parma salad which is certainly a good starting choice. However, for me the pasta is what I can't wait to go back back for. I had the short past with beef rage and it was INCREDIBLE. Service was good enough and nothing that is worth being a detractor to take any stars away. We have been to many La Masserias in NY. However, we had never been to Masseria East. It was my mother-in-law's 89th birthday and we decided to try this one since we always found the food and service to be stellar. That is why we were so disappointed that the service was just awful. The night started out by prying our party of 5 into a table between 2 other tables. This crowdedness gave us the impression that we were dining with the table on either side of us, not by ourselves. It required the busboys to serve dishes to our closely seated neighbors over our heads. When our waiter appeared it felt like we were doing him a favor for allowing him to wait on us. Right from the get-go, it felt like he didn't want to be there. He was very gruff, not accommodating at all. We could rarely find him. I could see the kitchen from my seat and I saw him chatting it up with the kitchen staff at one point, not giving a care in the world to his tables. I dropped my fork in that rare moment he was at our table and he just ignored it. My son had to ask him for another fork. He left a bottle of water on the table rather than pouring it. Three dinners came out at one point followed about 10-15 minutes later with the other 2. That was extremely disappointing and something that had never happened to us before at the other La Masserias. He seems totally annoyed when my mother-in-law returned a semi-cooked piece of salmon even though it was ordered medium. In fact, there were no words at all. By the time dessert rolled around, we had all had enough. It wasn't worth having dessert. I learned later that the owner berated him because he was supposed to bring a candle out on some dessert, but he totally forgot. To state the obvious, the wait staff is a large component of a dinner, especially one like this that isn't cheap. (The wine is extremely expensive. No bottles less than $85.) Like too many New York City restaurants the noise level is very high, at least on the weekends. Try to get any table out of the middle. That said, many very tasty dishes, the Masseria salad, many of the pasta dishes. Also the service provided is excellent - kind and helpful wait staff. I was very pleasantly surprised how delicious and fresh the food is here! I've been a regular at Sette Mezzo for decades but recently for the past year or so my family and I found the food to be too salty/greasy; something wasn't the same. Then I came across this new restaurant, Masseria East and discovered that Mr. Mania left Sette Mezzo with his chef and are now here. We ordered wine, prosciutto, eggplant, seafood, pasta, veal, desserts. Mr. Mania makes his own desserts, which my family loves b/c very flavorful, fresh and not too sweet, just like how they make it in Italy. The food was fresh, incredibly delicious, not too salty and not greasy at all. The proof is when I woke up in the morning, I lost 1-lb! For the past year or so, when I eat at Setta Mezzo, I gain 2-3 lbs in the morning. After decades at Sette Mezzo, I'm now taking my family and friends to dine at Masseria East! read more

Print them out, including price and insert into menu. Easy. When waiter offered to recite them, I asked that they be accompanied with price. He didn't know, would have to check on whatever we were interested in. Right there I'm not listening, I don't care. My companion asked price of dover sole = $70. He knew that one right away. What a turn off. Suppose we had forgotten to ask! I did ask if calves liver was frozen or fresh. Fresh I was told. It wasn't. It was chopped into teaspoon size pieces (who does that?) and was tough. This new Upper East Side Place is a gem in the neighborhood. The place has been completely remodeled with a new fresher and elegant touch. The Chef/Partner is from Italy and he focuses on authentic Italian specialties. The owner Giorgio Manzio is very attentive and greets each guest at the entrance. Service was very pleasant, we didn't feel rushed at all. We were celebrating our friend birthday and Giorgio made it very special bringing over their homemade Tiramisu'. We will come back soon. Ok...went back for dinner this past Wednesday. It was raining like crazy and we thought the restaurant would be fairly quiet..it wasn't. My friends were already seated and into their 1st cocktail. I couldn't get anybody's attention to order our drinks without exaggerating for 10 minutes then another 10 minutes before they came and the 1 big ice cube was now half melted (ugh) . Food... 2 jumbo crab salads, very fresh and well prepared, 1Cacio de Pepe which looked weak and minimal at best and tasteless. I had the Oso Bucco and that was delicious. Service that night was terrible but it was pouring out and they might have been short handed. read more

Went to Masseria East last year and found the food quite good, service quite slow but amiable, wine pour generous, and pretty ambiance that wasn't too loud but meal was very pricey for what it was. Still an enjoyable experience or I wouldn't return. I would give it 4 stars. Had an 8:30 reservation last night made on Open Table. Arrived on time and they were first sitting the 8pm reservations. Doorway was packed. We were told there would be a half hour wait despite having a reservation. Upon letting them know we would be leaving rather than offering an apology or complimentary cocktail they informed us that it's Saturday night which is busy and that we won't get into another restaurant if we leave. It's NYC! We were seated at a good restaurant within 10 minutes of leaving Masseria! In addition they still had reservations available for 8:45 listed on Open Table when we were told at 8:30 there would be a half hour wait. C'mon! I wouldn't bother with this establishment unless you don't mind standing for 30 minutes after your reservations(I'm pretty sure the wait would have been much longer than 30 minutes and based on the slow service from my previous experience once seated.....you get the point). When a restaurant experiences a situation like this it's usually because they are new and unexpectedly overwhelmed by a larger than expected crowd. That is not the case here. My experience when this happens,which is pretty rare in NYC but s**t happens, is the restaurant goes above and beyond to apologize and make it up to the customer. This business is clearly too successful to even care. Good luck. Too many restaurants in Manhattan to deal with this type of attitude and lack of consideration. read more

Stopped by for dinner here a few nights ago and had a lovely experience. The service was very welcoming, owner Giorgio meets you at the door and takes you to your seat. I started with a lovely glass of rose, which was honestly one of the lightest roses I have ever tried. For entrees, we got the salmon with a delicious mustard sauce (and I'm not even a huge mustard fan). We also got the Cacio e Pepe, served in a Parmesan bowl! It was delicious as well. For dessert, we had the lemon cake/tart. I didn't think I had any space left, but there was definitely room for it! The only caveat to keep in mind is that the prices are a little on the higher side, but for a special occasion, this is definitely a great place to stop. read more

Worst dinner ever. I had a 730 reservation that was not honored, I had to wait 40 minutes for a table that was in the back if the restaurant by the bathroom. The waitstaff was argumentative.The food came overcooked and with items I asked not to have on my dish. The just/owner was inattentive and dismissive to my comments.
