We stopped by to try a couple items. Parking is limited, couple spots alongside the restaurant and then street parking. The restaurant is located on the corner and is a house converted to a restaurant. We got there for lunch on a Sunday, it was packed. Thankfully, tables turned quickly so spots at the communal table in the middle of the restaurant opened up. The tricky part was getting the attention of the staff to pick up your order slip. I made eye contact a few times then finally waved the order slip in the air. BINGO, order in. The menu is not long with a lot of options so it's easy to make a decision. We ordered the Xiao Long Bao and the Jianbing. Xiao Long Bao, aka soup dumplings, is not a common menu item. When I see XLB being offered, I feel like the restaurant is confident in serving a worthy XLB each time. I was bummed. The wrapper was thicker than I'd like and the soup flavor, just okay. I probably won't order that again. We enjoyed the Jianbing. This crepe is made to order and reminded us of what we ate on the streets of Shanghai. The crepe is packed with sweet soy bean sauce, spicy fermented bean paste, crunchy crackers, cilantro, scallion and ginger. It was large enough to share, and for $6.50 you can't go wrong. The kitchen is open concept so you can watch the crew as they prepare each order. The counter by the kitchen has jars of sauce- be sure to check those out. That same counter was stocked with self serve to-go containers. I love when you don't need to ask. I watched as other diners were served their food and wished we had room for more food. I overheard a diner say this was their new favorite spot for Chinese food. I would go back for the Jianbing and am looking forward to trying more items on the menu. We walked right in and got service immediately. We ordered from a kiosk but the employee helped us order as it was our first time. The soup dumplings came out hot and had really great flavor. I had the wonton soup and the broth and noodles we delicious. The wonton had a pork/shrimp mixture that I wasn't necessarily fond of but it was cooked great. The beef dish was great. Stopped by here after a long day hiking in the area with my girlfriend. I saw the great reviews on Yelp, and I was not disappointed! They take orders over the phone, which I would recommend taking advantage of so you don't have to wait. We did not do this and instead ordered inside. Surprisingly, we only had to wait 15 minutes. We got the Xiao Long Bao, Pan Fried Onion Cake, and Beef Brisket Noodle Soup. The onion cakes were out of this world! The best I have ever had. They were super crisp and flavorful and came with a really great garlic dipping sauce. The Xiao Long Bao we're good and the dumpling dough tasted super fresh. They really benefited from dipping them in the chile oil they came with. Don't be scared to get some of the chiles in the bottom on your dumplings too they're not too spicy and super flavorful. The beef noodle soup was great. There were tons of different cuts of meat and a great cooked egg. The noodles were a tiny bit overdone but seemed hand made and fresh. I've never had it like that before; it was crispy and had fried bread flakes inside. Although it wasn't exactly what I was expecting, it was still very good. Clam zhou came with a lot of clams and was not fishy at all (thank goodness)! Wonton soup was great as well. The xlb tho was really lacking. Skin was too thick and there was barely any soup inside. This is a hole in the wall without much room, but it was a fun and delicious lunch! Friend and I went to lunch and tried lots of things: pea shoots and greens were great, dumplings were all meaty and very tasty, scallion pancakes were meh (or mid as the young say). We felt like it was a great value and very tasty for a casual spot. Just remember that they will not be providing table service: get your own water, your own sauces, etc. The lack of hosting staff is what keeps it cheap and it's why you order from a machine. I honestly don't know what region this food come from, China? I love Cantonese food so I naturally ordered a bowl of beef brisket noodle soup. Based on the picture it looks just like similar noodle soup available from Cantonese cuisine. For $7.5 a bowl the serving size is not bad. However the stock lacked beef flavor, beef brisket was too fatty and the noodle was not my favorite chewy type. If you want to eat asian food, I suppose this noodle bowl is okayed for the price. My husband ordered meat folder which we had no idea what it was. If I had to describe it is an asian version of hard flour taco with lot of meat stuffing. First look was impressive but the filling was so bland that I ended up pouring a cup of peanut garlic sauce (quite oily). I believe I read other reviewers' complains about it. Overall it was interesting experience. The restaurant is very small with tight seatings. If you don't mind sitting on the counter where you may be eating with strangers facing directly to you. The server was okay but rather absent minded. While dining there I saw there was two incidents to two tables. One, the server gave a guy someone else meal. Luckily she caught it early as the guy was able to eat the noodle. Second, she made have taken the order wrong. After delivering the wrong dish to the table, they returned it. There was a bit of argument between the server and the cooks in the kitchen. Fortunately we didn't have any problem. Only she offered to refill our tea, she ended up arguing with the cooks and she never gave us the teapot back. Read so many accolades that I had to try Master Kong. FYI that this place is small, definitely hole-in-the-wall, and leans towards Northern China cuisine (not Cantonese). Prices and value are excellent, though flavors are muted, thereby losing this place 1 star. We ordered the meat folder, sort of like 2 pita pocket breads stuffed with a weakly seasoned ground meat mixture, and the beef brisket noodle soup. The noodle soup had an ample amount of brisket (5-6 large pieces of beef), though the fatty and tendony texture of the meat might not be to liking of Western palates. The broth was just ok and the noodles were like ramen. You do get bok choy and a whole hard boiled soy sauce egg so there's value to this bowl. The meat folder was lacking in flavor, so much so that we had to constantly add condiments (peanut sauce and spicy oil-soy sauce blend) to every bite. The sandwich was also kind of oily. It was large and filling. The menu is limited so we'll try other items like assorted potstickers and Jian bing on our next stop. Servings are ample, street parking is readily available, and prices are affordable so it's definitely worth a stop. If they could only amp up the flavors! read more

Came here on a Saturday night for dinner and it was BUSY! There were a couple of people ahead of my boyfriend and I but we did not have to wait long for a table which was great! Make sure to put your name on the wait list when you first arrive. We got seated by the window. The only downside sitting there was the heat vent was right below our feet blasting hot heat the entire time and we were not able to adjust it so it was really warm during our meal. I had seen many photos over Instagram of the delicious food from here so there were a couple of items I knew I had to try. We ordered 4 items for the two of us. This place is phenomenal Chinese street food! It's 4 times the price (but that's normal to get good Chinese in the USA)....so good! They have a legit jinagbing crepe griddle, hearty and filing with an egg and crispy crackers and Xiao long boa which were passable, but too much dumpling and not enough soup. There's something called a "meat folder" in Chinese is Roujiamo, a pork sandwich. Here they give you two giant sandwiches per order! In the Chinese Muslim districts they are all mutton. A haven for all dumpling lovers! This is one of the best dumplings I've ever tried and it's also one of the basic-sounding ones... "Chinese-style pot stickers." I would've never ordered this from just looking at the text-only menu, so thank you Yelpers for the pics of these!! They are SO juicy, crispy, chewy, and flavorful! I'll come back and get these time and time again. I also tried the Jianbing which is a traditional Taiwanese breakfast egg pancake, I think. I've had this in Taiwan and it was soooo divine. I have to admit the one at MK leaves some flavor to be desired. I felt that it needed more sauce and filling because the pancake and egg tasted a bit too bland. So, yesterday was the Chinese new year. Year of the pig. And well, why not have some Chinese food especially since I'm down on Division & 82nd. My brother has mentioned Master Kong on a few occasions because of their Jian Bings. Jian Bings, Chinese street food, are basically crepes filled with a fried wonton, veggies and other goodies. They've been gaining popularity around town with a few food carts. The version here was even better. I also got some handmade steamed dumplings (one of my pics has two women making them practically in front of me) and they were amazing. 10 for $6.50 and Jian Bing was the same price. By reading some other recent reviews, I'm seeing they can get busy. I must have been there during off hours because I really didn't wait extremely long for my to-go order. Looks like they've hired some people to help around the place. After seated, the servers were very attentive and helpful. Noodle soups, Congee, dumplings and for the faint of heart; pigs ears and chicken feet. Myself and the kids loved the food. Wonton soup, pork belly, and I had "braised brisket noodle soup". Wifey, on the other hand has "black chicken congee". She was maybe too confident on her selection, just to say. I wish they had more to experience, as they seem very proficient on current offerings. I bow to the Master. You may have started to see Jianbing around Portland, I've tried it at two specialty carts and one brick and mortar. The version here is tops in taste, texture (love the crunch) and portion. So good. The menu is very inviting, especially if you're into Congee. Their homemade dumplings are very good, the pot stickers even better. And the The Meat Folder is a must and an excellent value. Unfortunately, their recent fame is having adverse effects: wait times are borderline Screen Door-like during peak times, and service is a bit spotty (but pleasant.) They passed our table umpteen times without noticing the hot tea kettle was empty and also forgot an order. A re-order of said dumplings took paaainfully long. And don't skip the awesome roasted garlic condiment sauce. The interior is spacious and the prices are very fair. read more

Finally got to try some grubs from this place. The order was made right on time and ready to pick up when I got there. They got a good system set up for takeout and delivery. I really love their Jiang Bing. The outer flour layer was soft and just the right amount of chewy while the inside filling was full of crunchy peanuts and fried dough; can only imagine how much better this would be fresh off the griddle! The Sesame Cold Noodles was also very nice. The thick hand-pulled noodles go very well with creamy, salty sesame sauce. They're very generous with their noodles and toppings portions. The quality was also great. The Beef Brisket Noodles seem to be the popular dish here so we had to give it a try. I'm a fan of the soup and an even bigger fan of the tender tendon-y beef but I thought the thick noodles, which were the same as those in the cold noodles, didn't work too well in this context. Nevertheless, they maintained their generosity witht their portion here even witht the brisket. Their packaging of the food deserves a mention alone. Separate noodles and soup. The dumplings were ok, nothing outstanding. I've had better. BUT. The Jiambing with pork and meat folder was delish. I will definitely drive the distance just for this. Ok, so I bumped up one star because their congee is really good. I was going to go to 3 stars because of the poor service. The food is pretty good but it doesn't balance out the very cold and emotionless service. I will say that they are shorthanded so maybe they are simply overworked or tired of dealing with us customers. But the atmosphere and the service makes up a good part of any meal. Ordered the Xiaolong bao, steamed buns and wonton soup. The xialong bao was great. Had just enough soup in there. I think the dough was a bit thick though compared to din tai fung but it was still really good. The steam buns were delicious as well. The dough was good and they put just enough meat in there. Wish they would put a little bit more meat but then again they give you like 5-6 buns. The wonton soup was a tad bit bland for my taste. You may need to add some seasoning to it but they do give you soy sauce, chili sauce and some other sauce as well so you can always add that in there. Better to be under salted than over salted I suppose. All in all, I would give it 5 stars if the wonton soup had a bit more flavor but other than that, it was good and I'd come back and maybe try that beef soup. read more

I had given a good review previously but recently I had a bad experience. The roads were really icy because of the snow so I had to drive slower than usual but when I got there to pick up my order, the lady took my order from the counter, slammed it in front of me and looked at me and said "wow.. an hour" as if I was an hour late to pick up my order which I was not. Even if I had been, it doesn't affect them much for my order to sit there on the counter and if the food went cold, I would've just blamed it on myself. It was rude and hurtful. They have a new large kiosk where you can order (both take-out, or dining in) -- this was really nice, as it allows you to browse some perhaps-unfamiliar images of the menu. I wouldn't say that this is the best place I've ever had, but definitely fulfilled my cravings on a Monday night and was tasty enough. Another cool place that has some very tasty jian bing. The other place that makes some decent ones is the Bong Mi food carts. The jian here is super flavorful and adding the pork inside it makes it even better. The handmade dumplings were also tasty. They tasted fresh and not frozen. The stand buns are also delicious as they are made to order. They remind me of almost like a soup dumpling but in a steamed bun format. The chicken congee is also made fresh as they are prepared in a claypot. The beef brisket noodle soup had lots of flavor, but there was a good portion of fatty meats with it.
