Lovely pizzaria in Castle Hills! Got a pizza by the slice for $5 after taxes which is a little steep but it's a good large slice! Four stars just because their AC is really weak so it was quite stuffy inside. Otherwise it was fast and nice service. Nice place to try a warm New York style pizza with a nice thin crust and charred bottom, however sauce flavor was a little less flavorful than typically expected. read more

Wow! New York style pizza in San Antonio? You can't beat that with a stick! This inconspicuous pizza parlor is hidden in a strip mall on NW Military Highway and has ample parking. I walked in and approached the counter, where I placed my order. In addition to pizza, they offer calzones, strombolis, paninis, and salads. I opted for two slices of cheese and called it a day. Limited seating is available, however I opted to take them to go in a box. The pizza was true to form for NY style pie; the crust was slightly crispy and the cheese and sauce paired well. If you're looking for authentic, made-with-love pizza, look no further. Giuseppe has been feeding our great city for more than 20 years and his eats are absolutely worthwhile. You can start with a caprese or house salad, maybe some garlic knots while you deliberate (the dough here is excellent), but then you'll knead (see what I did there?) to tackle the difficult question: a slice or two? As a former NYC/East Coast resident, I'm pretty fussy about pizza that claims to be 'New York Style'. Sapore's is very close with their crust, the flavors are excellent, so it's become my go-to when it comes to a great pie. Highly recommend the sausage and mushroom. It doesn't come mushy like some pies (looking at you, Grimaldi's), and the sausage has a great fennel taste. This is a native Italian-run place, and it shows in the food. This is a small-ish restaurant, comfortable enough with about 5-6 tables. Haven't done their delivery, I just like to call in an order and pick it up. This place scores a 5 out of 5 on the 'CTJ Scale', as noted below. 5 out of 5 stars: Come-to-Jesus good. Would be OK passing away after finishing a plate here. 4 out of 5 stars: Come-to-Mary good. Would be OK having a nosh here with Mother Mary. 3 out of 5 stars: Come-to-Joseph good. Would be OK having a beer here with Jesus' Dad. 2 out of 5 stars: Come-to-the-Apostles good. Meh. Small restaurant with good food and friendly staff. I stopped by for lunch. They do have lunch specials, but I opted for a calzone. You can sub the calzone ingredients if needed. You order at the register and then someone brings it out to you. The calzone was big, cheesy and tasty. It comes with marinara sauce to dip. The crust was crispy. I would like to return to taste their pizza. From looking around, the pizza is thin crust. I love thin crust pizza. Parking is on site, but shared with the other businesses on the strip. read more

The owner's niece is working with him--I recognized her from their old spot--and she, along with the rest of the staff, was friendly, helpful, and polite. Great Meat Lover's Pizza! Great Meat Lover's Pizza! My buddy and I ordered our pizza to go...   We both were anxious, to try our new neighborhood pizza restaurant.  Our excitement was met with one of the best tasting pizzas, we've had in quite some time!  The meat lovers was absolutely delicious...  I do prefer it cooked a little crispier, but I had already planned on warming it up so it came out perfect after 10 minutes in my oven.  Next time I'll know to order to be cooked a bit longer.  We decided to return a few days later, to try their Italian Panini, which is a sandwich with delicious homemade bread, it has Ham, Smoked Salami, Provolone, Pepperoni, lettuce, tomato, and onions with homemade Italian dressing. WOW, it was Awesome!  They have an assortment of soft drinks in a self service dispenser. The atmosphere is nice and clean, with a television hanging on one of the walls. It wasn't on, but Joe was playing some great tunes to enhance your senses. There's also an outside seating, if you want to enjoy the great weather we're having.  If you haven't been by, be sure to stop in and say hi to Joe, and be sure to try any of their pizzas or sandwiches... We wandered in from the work week to try pizza in a new town, & the atmosphere was so relaxed! I have not even tasted the pizza, but the staff has been so sweet, & the music was banging, but I already like it! I'll update again after dinner. Sapore's Pizza is a great, local pizza joint that you should give a try. Pre-COVID, my office was across the street from Sapore's so that is how I found out about it. Since I've been working from home now, I haven't had Sapore's in a while, so I decided to order online and pick up. I was told to come in 20 minutes for pick up and when I did the pizza was ready to go.....EZ PZ. When I got home and opened the box, the pizza looked perfect. When I bit into the slice, it was still warm and was covered with plenty of pepperoni, mushrooms and onions. The crust was crisp but not burnt and the tomato sauce brought it all together. To be honest, on a scale of 1-5 I would rate the pizza a 3.5/5. I gave this place 4/5 because of the very sweet owner and his passion he puts in his pizza. The super friendly owner is from Southern Italy and I almost wish he would make the traditional pizza napoletana (aka Neapolitan pizza), but here I am for the NY traditional style. When I go to a NY Style pizza I am looking for specific things such as flavor/texture of the dough and flavor of the sauce. With that said...I'll start with the bad. The Margherita pizza was extremely disappointing. Margherita pizza is a very simple pizza because the ingredients should shine. The tomatoes were bland, he used dried basil instead of fresh basil, and the moots was just okay. I would not order the Margherita again. Sicilian: Tooooo much dough that was lacking on flavor. It borderline that of papa john's and dominos flavor. Definitely not enough sauce. I would not get the Sicilian again either. If you're ever in NYC head over to Prince Street Pizza. That is a crave-worthy Sicilian. Finally the Pavarotti Meat Lover which was my favorite. I ordered it without the bacon because I felt the bacon would overpower the other flavors. I was happy with my decision. Overall the texture of the dough was spot on. The flavor, however, was missing something. Maybe not enough days to ferment? (NY Style pizza dough is typically fermented in the fridge for 1-3 days. This is what gives it it's key yeasty / doughy flavor). The sauce was good. The ingredients could have been better (especially with the Margherita). I had this place before I tried Ray's Pizzaria (yea they spell it with an A instead of an E) and thought Sapore's was the closest thing to home I would experience. Ray's Pizzaria ended up outshining Sapore's in the sense of being the closest thing to authentic NY Style Pizza. Anyway, Sapore's is good. I would not order the Margherita nor the Sicilian. I'd get the Meat Lovers without bacon again. Enjoy! read more

My friend and I came here for dinner and we really enjoyed it. 1. They had combos and we got the one slice with a drink a Cesar salad. I would ask for the dressed on the side bc the do put a lot in there, but everything was really good. 2. The pizza was slightly over cooked but it came out hot and fresh. The staff was so nice and really funny. We were all in there dancing to music and stuff haha. Nothing particular special about this place but the pizza is really good and worth the price. read more

The waitress messed up our order and didn't even seem to care. The Greek salad was okay and the buffalo wings had a good kick but the pizza was thin, limp, greasy, and falling apart. The chicken parm panini looked like it had just come out of the freezer and was dry, when asking for more sauce it looked like the tomato sauce from the can. I tried Sapore's for the first time last night after being recommended by a co-worker. This small neighborhood pizzeria serves New York style pizza, pasta and more. I ordered a large pepperoni to-go and after a short wait my pizza was ready!! This pizza was delicious!!!!!!
