Caesar Salad
Neyda V.

I'd been wanting to try this pizza spot, and it didn't disappoint! We came on a weekend after work and enjoyed flavorful pizza, delicious garlic knots, and a fresh Caesar salad. Everything was great, the service was friendly, and we'll definitely be back.

Wow! New York style pizza in San Antonio? You can't beat that with a stick! This inconspicuous pizza parlor is hidden in a strip mall on NW Military Highway and has ample parking. I walked in and approached the counter, where I placed my order. In addition to pizza, they offer calzones, strombolis, paninis, and salads. I opted for two slices of cheese and called it a day. Limited seating is available, however I opted to take them to go in a box. The pizza was true to form for NY style pie; the crust was slightly crispy and the cheese and sauce paired well. I highly recommend this place and would gladly return!

Salvatore Pizza loaded with meat

Outstanding Pizza and the lasagne even better. Thin crust cooked to perfection the gravy is truly amazing. I always get the Salvatore loaded with spinach Italian sausage and mushrooms The owner is a great guy very friendly if it's not right he will fix it. Oh they have 7 flavors of Gelato another great treat.

I got a meat lovers pizza looked great from above but as I ate it I tasted a burnt flavor flipped it over and saw that it was burnt at the bottom. What a waste of money!!!! 21 dollars and some change for this mess already home and settled in and took the big "L" because I don't have time to drive back and argue with someone about the New York burnt style pizza I won't be back I'll just go a little further down to Julian's

As a former NYC/East Coast resident, I'm pretty fussy about pizza that claims to be 'New York Style'. Sapore's is very close with their crust, the flavors are excellent, so it's become my go-to when it comes to a great pie. Highly recommend the sausage and mushroom. It doesn't come mushy like some pies (looking at you, Grimaldi's), and the sausage has a great fennel taste. This is a native Italian-run place, and it shows in the food. This is a small-ish restaurant, comfortable enough with about 5-6 tables. Haven't done their delivery, I just like to call in an order and pick it up. This place scores a 5 out of 5 on the 'CTJ Scale', as noted below. 5 out of 5 stars: Come-to-Jesus good. Would be OK passing away after finishing a plate here. 4 out of 5 stars: Come-to-Mary good. Would be OK having a nosh here with Mother Mary. 3 out of 5 stars: Come-to-Joseph good. Would be OK having a beer here with Jesus' Dad. 2 out of 5 stars: Come-to-the-Apostles good. Meh. Wouldn't have my last supper here. 1 out of 5 stars: Come-to-Nobody good. I wouldn't have my penultimate supper here, either.

Calzone

Small restaurant with good food and friendly staff. I stopped by for lunch. They do have lunch specials, but I opted for a calzone. You can sub the calzone ingredients if needed. You order at the register and then someone brings it out to you. The calzone was big, cheesy and tasty. It comes with marinara sauce to dip. The crust was crispy. I would like to return to taste their pizza. From looking around, the pizza is thin crust. I love thin crust pizza. Parking is on site, but shared with the other businesses on the strip.

Really enjoy this place. Situated in a strip mall, the outside does not look promising. Go inside, however, and you get hit by a Neapolitan ambiance that shows the owners have an actual connection to the area. Pizza is very good, although service can be slow if you order anything else.

Great Meat Lover's Pizza! Great Meat Lover's Pizza! My buddy and I ordered our pizza to go...   We both were anxious, to try our new neighborhood pizza restaurant.  Our excitement was met with one of the best tasting pizzas, we've had in quite some time!  The meat lovers was absolutely delicious...  I do prefer it cooked a little crispier, but I had already planned on warming it up so it came out perfect after 10 minutes in my oven.  Next time I'll know to order to be cooked a bit longer.  We decided to return a few days later, to try their Italian Panini, which is a sandwich with delicious homemade bread, it has Ham, Smoked Salami, Provolone, Pepperoni, lettuce, tomato, and onions with homemade Italian dressing. WOW, it was Awesome!  They have an assortment of soft drinks in a self service dispenser. The atmosphere is nice and clean, with a television hanging on one of the walls. It wasn't on, but Joe was playing some great tunes to enhance your senses. There's also an outside seating, if you want to enjoy the great weather we're having.  If you haven't been by, be sure to stop in and say hi to Joe, and be sure to try any of their pizzas or sandwiches... I'm hoping you'll like it, as much as we did!  Buon Appetito george

Very good food, authentic and nice dining... The gluten-free pizza was only a medium :( which was disappointing for a $6 upcharge. I would love a large available. Maybe they can find a recipe to make gluten free pizza for us gluten-free pizza lovers! I will be back!

Pizza is amazing! Only disappointment was getting a glass of wine that clearly had been opened over a day ago and had a vinegar like taste.

The food feels like the chefs were given good quality materials, but had no idea what to do with them. We ordered a funghi pizza to share then a cinghiale, a costine (short ribs), and a dentice (bass). Funghi pizza was the only dish that made coming worth it at all. It had a nice flavor, but if you're expecting the notes of an earthy mushroom flavor, don't. It's just a nicer version of a standard cheese pizza topped with some onions and mushroom. The cinghiale was just stunningly mediocre. The meat was flavorful, but the pasta itself was shockingly bland. It was just so... ok. The dentice was the best of the 3 individual dishes, but it is just what you would expect some average short ribs with random sauce to taste. The costine was just terrible. Salty on the outside, yet flavorless on the inside. Avoid at all costs. The service was passable, but they clearly overwork their servers as one server just handles an entire section and is too overwhelmed to be timely. I came to cheer myself up, but honestly it only made dinner comically worse. I seriously can't imagine what would cause someone to rate this as 5 stars. Maybe if they thought Olive Garden was 4.5, then I guess this would barely be a 5 in comparison? Either way, if you're looking for good food for your dinner, keep looking. You won't find it here.

I started with a Hugo spritz, which was light, refreshing, and exactly what I wanted to kick things off. It was incredibly creamy and paired so well with the fresh toppings and bread. Definitely a must-order. And of course, we had to end with dessert--the tiramisu was unbelievably creamy and indulgent, with just the right balance of sweetness and espresso flavor. Absolute perfection. Between the cozy atmosphere, great drinks, and delicious food, Renzo's is such a gem. Highly recommend for a chill night out or happy hour with friends!

Truly every person at the table seemed to love what they ordered -- we had a lot of "you have to try this!" moments being passed around the table. One thing I especially appreciated was the Caesar salad. I noticed another review mentioning the anchovy flavor in the dressing as a negative, but in my opinion, that's exactly what made it great. For me a Caesar should have that briny anchovy depth, and this one tasted freshly made and perfectly balanced. It felt authentic and thoughtfully prepared. Between the warm atmosphere, truly fantastic service, and food that everyone enjoyed, it made for a really memorable evening. We'll absolutely be back! Thank you Renzo's for taking such great care of us!

Not too hot, just that easy breeze rolling off the river like it's got nowhere else to be. I'm there with my daughter and family, and the world's walking by boats cruising, people laughing, a little chaos, a little charm... dinner and a show, no ticket required. Now the food real Italian food. Not the kind that just throws red sauce at you and hopes for the best. This is layered. Garlic that actually means something. Rich, buttery sauces clinging to perfectly cooked pasta like they're in a lifelong commitment. You taste herbs, you taste depth it's the kind of Italian food that makes you slow down mid-bite and just nod like, "Yeah... they got this right." Drinks? Smooth enough to keep ordering, strong enough to make you question your life choices in the best way. Service was dialed in. Nobody missing, nobody stressed just right there when you needed them, like they were reading your mind or watching you a little too closely... either way, it worked. And the atmosphere? That's where it gets dangerous. Because you sit there watching the River Walk roll by, the noise, the laughter, the movement... and suddenly two hours disappear. You're ordering dessert you didn't plan on, another drink you don't need, and nobody at the table's in a hurry to leave. I came for Italian food... ...and ended up staying for everything else.

Meals- We ordered the Capellini Pomodoro Crudo & the Spaghetti ( Spicy ) The red sauce is delicious on the spaghetti. The Crudo, it was a little disappointing. It hardly had any roasted tomatoes in it and large chunks of mozzarella that never melted. The olive oil was very present & not much else. Would have been better tossed with some of that spicy tomato sauce! (see pics). Note-Advise you to make a reservation! We were fortunate: as we went late in the evening, no wait time, seated outside & they were still fairly busy. The restaurant offers a private cruise dining $ experience. So we went online and made a reservation. Upon arrival, we had a large round table set for 10 ready for us. Our waiter, Rami, was really nice and worked hard all evening to take good care of us. The restaurant itself is along a quiet area of the River Walk in an old stone building with tons of charm. The ambiance was relaxed and inviting, perfect for a group dinner. As for the food, it was good but not exceptional. I was excited for the Goat Cheese Pizza with balsamic onion, pistachio, and saba. The thin crust, however, was almost too crunchy and a bit tough to eat. The toppings didn't stand out as much as I had hoped, likely because they were overbaked together. Overall, we had a lovely dinner with great service, a charming atmosphere, and good - but not great - food. 4 stars for now. I would return and try again.

However we realized quickly EVERYONE was waiting outside and they had clearly overbooked or had some issue. Finally, after waiting 20 minutes we were sat. The waittress was kind and let us know the kitchen was having some issues so food would be a little delayed between courses. It was about 60 degrees outside and we kindly asked to turn off the outside fans which were on full blast. Once. Then again, and again, and again. After 5 attempts asking various people we gave up and the waitress let us know she couldnt turn them off because their iPad control died. We werent upset at this we were just upset we kept getting different answers and no explanation for our entire 2+ hr meal. We finished the entree and were waiting for the dessert for about 15 minutes until we finally just flagged down a waittress and asked to get the check and desert to go because we were ready to leave. We waited another 10 minutes before someone else brought us our desert but no check. We asked them for the check and then the original waitress came back with our check and another set of deserts. At some point I saw another server who seemed like the manager or supervisor telling another worker to straighten the tables outside so the corners were aligned... needless to say the table alignment was not the issue. Overall just seemed like the restaurant was overwhelmed and there wasn't alot of communication between tables and the staff. It seems the staff was trying their best but the management wasn't handling it well. Would have appreciated more effort into making sure we were taken care of considering the meal for 2 totaled almost 300$. The only reason this isn't a one star is because of the kind waiting staff.

As far as the food, we had the fried mozzarella, which was essentially a log of cheese deep-fried and served over sauce. It was delicious, but the cheese-to-crust ratio was a bit heavy. The Caesar salad looked better than it tasted. It was very wet, if that makes sense, and the lettuce seemed soggy. Now for the Wagyu ragu. This almost made me have a seizure, and not in a good way. It was extremely salty and completely inedible, so we had to send it back. The waitstaff was very accommodating and agreed that the salt level was way off, so we replaced it with the carbonara. I'm not sure if that's what authentic carbonara is supposed to taste like, but I did not enjoy it. It tasted burnt to me and had too much pepper. I also didn't care for the shape of the noodles. Last, we had the Americano pizza. It was decent, but nothing to write home about. I just think that if you're going to advertise a pizza with meat on it, there should be more than one piece of sausage per slice. As far as the service, our server was fine. Not particularly friendly, but straightforward and efficient. The manager (or another server) was helpful when it came to replacing our dish. Overall, I would not go back. The location is great and the vibe is nice, but the food was a miss. Save your money and go somewhere else.
