In Marina Del Rey once again visiting family. Looking for a breakfast stop and turned to the trusty Yelp app once to score a delicious meal. Easy to spot we walked over from where we were staying. We arrived shortly before the wait line began. We were seated right away by friendly welcoming staff. We were served coffee and water quickly and given our menus. As we were walking to be seated the ambiance and the kitchen were bustling. We ordered two build your own omelettes and eggs Benedict and a fresh biscuit. As the reviews had indicated the food was delicious. The service was spot on keeping our table top fresh in removing used plates and keeping our coffee cups topped off. I always drove by when this place was Maxwell's and was curious. This morning, I gave it a shot, and they were open. It was a bit of hustle and bustle with people coming and going and take-out orders. Bruce's Sunrise Sandwich was selected. I really should have saved the $17.50 and ate something at home. The croissant was okay, but that's about it. The avocado had lots of spots and looked like it was ready to turn. All the ingredients just kind of blandly went together. The bacon was minimal, and I don't even think there was any form of onion on it, let alone grilled onions. It was such a tiny portion of filling, too. One half had an expected amount, but the other side had only a tiny bit, leaving almost all bare croissant after the one bite that actually had filling. Maybe Wednesdays at 11:30am isn't a great time with that odd time between breakfast and lunch. I brought home a menu to peruse, but based on the prices, I'll probably skip next time. read more

Service was impeccable before we even entered the building! The staff helped us find a place for our bikes and helped our kids get settled. They had a ton of classic toy cars for the kids to play with and the staff was totally focused on keeping our kids happy- it was so refreshing!! I have missed this place and I'm so glad that when the prior owner tried to destroy the place that it was put in the hands of the new owner. I'm so glad they didn't give up because it's one of the few places of its quaintness to survive in the neighborhood. Read the story on the back of the menu when you go. I love that the same chefs are still there too!I wish I'd gotten our server's name at the counter(shame on me) because she was sweet and very attentive. Update on her name when I go next time. My club sandwich was huge and I got a nicely put together green salad with it. I will go for breakfast next time cuz that is where I think they excel. I took home a banana chocolate chip muffin that I couldn't stop thinking about digging into when I got home. It was so moist and delicious and huge!!!!! I went on a Saturday earlier this month. My friend advised that we should arrive early, so we got there at 8:30am and the only spots open were at the bar in the front room (which was totally fine). Cute vibe - I hadn't been for years since it was Maxwells. I got the 2x2x2 with scrambled eggs & French toast. I was very excited to dig in, but everything came out cold. Not even a hint of warmth. It was all a little on the bland side as well. I was disappointed as I love a good comfort breakfast. When we left there was a line waiting. It's definitely a hot-spot. Went here a few weeks ago, and still can't fathom just how bad of an experience this place was. There were flies in the corner, to which a member of the staff put out a mini fan directly in front of our seats in the only spot for our plates. I ordered a Southwestern omelette which came with chorizo, pico, beans, cheese, etc. First cut into the omelette, there was enough grease from the chorizo to start a grease fire. My wife ordered a 2x2x2 with breakfast sausage links that were tiny and still cold. The Hash Browns were hashed, but not brown. The looked more like grey mashed potatoes slopped onto our plates. The guy next to us at the counter had hash browns as well but his were charred black on the bottom. Communal syrup containers stuck to the counter and looked very old. The food was extremely bland and overpriced. Despite sitting at the counter we repeatedly needed to flag down somebody before finally getting a refill for a cup of coffee. Maxwell's was decent ten years ago, but this clearly ain't it. I don't know what happened that the previous owner allegedly went psycho and took a chainsaw to the building - which was a really off-putting thing to see on the back page of their menu - but maybe now I see where they were coming from. read more
