It's so rare to find real biscuits with real gravy anywhere but they have it here. The gravy was perfect with lots of chunks of meat in it. This was my first time so I got the spicy omelette with hash browns and subbed B&G for the toast. The sausage inside the omelette was indeed spicy but right at my limit. I've been coming here for the last 6.5 years since I have lived in Mar Vista and it is by far my favorite breakfast spot in the area. Everything I have tried on the menu has always been amazing and cooked to perfection (with love too!) Your food will always be served with a smile, their staff is truly outstanding. The fruit is always fresh, and the coffee always strong, all served by n a nice cozy atmosphere. The new outdoor patio is a nice addition as well. A great spot for breakfast. Nothing disappointed with our orders. I had the 2x2x2; two pancakes, two eggs, two turkey sausage patties, and hash browns. My wife; the famous garbage omelet, breakfast potatoes and sourdough toast. I also requested a mocha not on the menu; not available but I was offered a hot chocolate instead, also not included. We were seated outdoors in a cute space. The bit too small tables were my only real complaint; I had to balance my two plates partially hanging over the edge. A real plus was our server, Sal. This guy is extremely nice, helpful and funny. He offered to make me a hot chocolate and the end result was a gourmet tasting delight! Everything was prepared well, though my pancakes could have been a little more on the lighter side. We both had plenty of leftovers to go. This was a terrific find for breakfast. read more

My new favorite coffee shop/diner. Wonderful authentic rustic atmosphere, great neighborhood vibe. Food is fantastic with lots of choices having an extensive menu. Ridiculously large biscuits. It can get crowded because the food is good with a reasonably sized (but not overwhelming) menu, along with the diner-sized portions, so aim for later in the day or weekdays if possible. Breakfast quesadilla is a go-to, along with the chiliquilles, but it's really hard to go wrong here. read more

Following suit with the regulars entering the charming dining area with us, we self-sat and were quickly greeted and provided menus by the staff. Our waitress was very kind and made us feel at home. We ordered the Basic Breakfast and Chiliquiles Special - both dishes with eggs over medium for that sweet runny yolk - as well as the home made organic hibiscus tea and cup of coffee. The drinks arrived promptly and within ~10 mins, we had our food as well. The portions were humongous and served incredibly warm. The chilaquiles were the best I ever had, offering the crispy crunch one looks for in good contrast with the sour cream, guac, and heart black beans. The hash browns of the Basic Breakfast were perfectly crispy, the English muffin toasted beautifully, and the eggs over medium afforded the most aesthetically pleasing yolk cut. Overall, the high caliber of food and flavors was further complimented by the charm of the warm colors and surf decorum. Definitely worth coming back for. read more

Maxine's is the rebirth of the legendary Maxwell's cafe after the previous managers destroyed the place. A year in the making, it re-opened a month or so ago to much applause from its loyal customers. Much of the menus is the same and some items are still making their way back but everything is as it should be. You won't find friendlier waitstaff anywhere (even with a Michelin star) with superstar, Dave, who remembers everyone's name and orders and has a premonition about when you need extra napkins or a coffee refill. Oh yeah, this is our neighborhood spot for brunch. We love it, visiting friends and family love it - it doesn't get better than this. We were a little skeptical because we didn't have a great experience eating here when it was Maxwell's, but we gave it another try because we live so close, and we are glad we did. We've come here for brunch a few times now, and not only is the food delicious, but the service is so friendly and sometimes downright hilarious. One waiter was telling jokes throughout the whole service and cracking us up - this place has a family feel and they treat you like they know you, even if you aren't one of the super consistent regularly. Have gotten the spicy mama omelette and the garbage omelette with extra crispy hashbrows, and both were delicious. The bread is also great and coffee plentiful. Their service also moves extremely fast, got a peek in the kitchen last time we ate there and wow, they are efficient. So glad they changed it up, as now we know we can get very consistent food and service at our neighborhood brunch spot Maxine's! read more

Looking for a classic menu for breakfast in Marina Del Rey. Most of the top rated cafes were a fusion of the classics or were charging $26 for eggs and bacon. So was super excited when we found Maxine's driving down Washington Blvd. It's a quaint little gem and couldn't help get a hint of home cooking as we were walking up. We sat at a tiny table for 2 in the back. It was intimate but not crowded. We ordered the 2x2x2 and corned beef hash, both with crispy hash browns. Portions were great and hit the spot for a good ol' breakfast of champions. All the servers were friendly and attentive, and seemed to know most of the patrons. The servers are intuitive, asking great questions and giving easy to understand descriptions, as with their three different kinds of breakfast potatoes. It's a cool little place, which is the only slight drawback for me personally. Because it's so good, it can get crowded early on the weekends and there can be a wait. We had breakfast here after a morning of hiking so we were hungry. I ordered the breakfast burrito while my friend had the breakfast sandwich. My burrito lacked the essential breakfast items and I feel like they were stingy with their sausage and eggs. The burrito also had fresh tomato and black beans and honestly, it wasnt really appetizing. We ordered the french toast as well which was kind of bland and had no flavor, besides the powdered sugar added on top.
