Second, the food here is phenomenal and actually priced well. It's refreshing to find a place that serves such high-quality food at prices that still feel decently affordable. Their lunch menu is next level just the photos alone will make you drool, and again great prices considering 2026's economy. It is delicious, satisfying, and honestly a better value than many cafes that charge the same or more for food that is nowhere near as good. The ladies who run the shop are also incredibly friendly, warm, and personable. They are always courteous, fun to talk to, and bring such great energy to the space. Every visit feels welcoming and upbeat and I look forward to coming in to grab a huge pack of smoked salmon for $18 and some fresh Russian bread (toasted with butter!) for a few bucks. I've driven past Papa's Meat and Seafood on Glenoaks Blvd a dozen times, on our many trips to the area. We alway promising that we would stop in, and I'd finally stop in. Honestly, my only regret is waiting this long. I ordered the Luka Sandwich, which is loaded with their 14-hour smoked pastrami brisket, cheddar, pickled cherry peppers, iceberg, and Papa's aioli on toasted sourdough. The pastrami itself is a work of art--smoky, melt-in-your-mouth tender, and seasoned perfectly without being a total salt bomb. The pickled cherry peppers give it this incredible, bright pop of heat that cuts right through the richness of the beef. It's a messy, beautiful monster of a sandwich. My wife went with the Surf 'n' Turf Bowl, which comes with their marinated "Crack Shrimp" and grilled angus beef over rice with a fresh shirazi salad. The beef was incredibly tender, but those crack shrimp stole the show--snappy, heavily seasoned, and completely addictive. You can clearly taste the quality of a high-end butcher shop in a casual, quick-service lunch. The only reason I'm knocking off one star is the wait time and the seating is also pretty limited, so it's much better suited for a grab-and-go situation than a sit-down date night. That being said, the quality of the meat here blows standard sandwich joints completely out of the water. If you're in Burbank and want a lunch that actually feels high-quality and satisfying, do yourself a favor and drop in. I'm already eyeing the A5 Wagyu Cheesesteak for my next visit!

We spent a significant amount of money (around $150) and yet received very little attention once larger groups arrived. The most frustrating part was waiting nearly an hour after asking for boxes and the check. We had to flag down our waiter multiple times, and when we finally asked again, instead of apologizing, he responded as if we had been waiting by choice. It honestly left us shocked because we had already asked previously and had simply been ignored. What disappointed me even more was the manager's response. After asking whether we were satisfied, I explained that the restaurant appeared understaffed for the number of large parties being handled and that smaller tables were clearly being overlooked. His response was essentially that everyone is treated fairly, but unfortunately that was not our experience at all. I understand restaurants get busy, especially with large events, and I would have completely understood a sincere acknowledgment of the delay. Most restaurants at least apologize properly, check in, or offer some small gesture after such a long wait. Instead, we felt dismissed. It was also disappointing that despite mentioning it was a birthday celebration, there was no acknowledgment whatsoever -- not even a small candle or dessert gesture that many restaurants typically offer to help make guests feel welcomed and appreciated. I truly used to enjoy coming here, which is why this experience was so upsetting. The atmosphere and entertainment are beautiful, but service matters too, and tonight we left feeling ignored rather than valued as returning customers.

This has got to be the WORST PLACE!!!!!!!! I've ever eaten in my entire life. From the moment I walked in, the hostess never acknowledged me. Finally, we got seated. But what happens next is so bad, it wasn't comical anymore. We got there at 1:35 and got our food at 2:40. We were timing it. We had the bad luck of getting this idiot waiter who probably just got out of a mental institution. While he was taking the other table's order and then mine, he kept signaling to others, supposedly other waiters pretending he was doling out orders to them. I looked up and there were no waiters at all. I told him "can you please take care of us first" to continue the order I was placing, knowing now he's just a poser. Dude, if you think waiting is beneath you, please find another job. There are other people that are better qualified and will happily fill your spot. Sure enough, he messed up on our order and not only that... he overcharged on one. I saw him only one time after I got the food. I asked him for "patis" he said no problem but of course, I shouldn't expect the sauce. I'm just a customer. I never got it. I had to call him back because the runner gave us steamed rice when I clearly said "sinangag" which means garlic fried rice. How did you get that order wrong unless he was so busy with his fantasies of being the head waiter there? There's no such thing as appetizer here also because when you order food here in this fine establishment, your appetizer will come AFTER you get your main dish. But us Filipinos don't care right? We never complain. Hello. Well, this is what yelp is for. To let everyone know that you in this business, need to hire more qualified people. That crazy ass waiter didn't even look at me once when he was taking my order. His neck had the Poltergeist twist to it, he was looking at another entity far from me! He was doing this to all the tables he waited on. This is the first time every that we have stiffed a waiter. We usually leave 20 %. We left a big ZERO. When we saw how we got overcharged, we went up to the hostess now really upset how our Sunday afternoon has turned into a gloomy one. She just took our money, adjusted the overcharged item, gave the change, without saying thank you or sorry for inconvenience. Their attitude is "you are lucky to be eating at OUR establishment because we don't care for any customer service, we just want to take your money, give you your food that you think you deserve and leave". What a bunch of assholes and dim witted people in there. GO TO BARRIO FIESTA GLENDALE. BARRIO FIESTA has better food and another level of customer service. I should've just given the money to a bum $43.75 for lunch instead of to this bad ghetto of a place. What an embarrasment to my guest who is not Filipino. Shame on you, don't bring that squatter attitude here. IF you're going to have a restaurant and not a fast food joint and charge $18 to $32 for a dish, make sure you train your waiters first, have them wear a uniform and that hostess needs to know how to talk.. T A L K like a human. She must not know how to speak E N G L I S H and just want to appear haughty. What a complete waste of time and money. Not only that, but the stress we got from not going nuts in the restaurant trying to appear calm and forgiving was tiring. We should've just stooped down to their level and went ballistic. We came in to place an order to go and sat down at one of their tables because we needed to look at the menu first. First off, their servers barely know anything about the menu. When you ask them a question about a certain product, they usually give you vague answers. Also, most food on the menus are out which have my favorites. To add to the painful experience, after we had finished ordering, the server said to us rudely, "there's a waiting area over there." I can understand if the restaurant is busy and we were taking up room for potential customers. However, there were only two tables being used in the whole restaurant and there were only about 8 customers in total. I did not understand why the server had to force us to move to their "waiting area" which is outside the door. Furthermore, their excuse was "it's our rules." For someone who has worked in the customer service industry for many years, I know that if the customer wanted to sit down even for a little bit while waiting for their order, there is usually no problem. We blame the server for being rude. In my time of dining the server have spilled water on me and barely even noticed, they never smile or seem to want to provide any sort of customer service, and make you feel like you're a nuisance there. Other times, they placed my order incorrectly and have done nothing more than provide the minimum service. Even when you speak to the Manager, there's "usually nothing they can do because it's how it is/their rules." Overall, the service at this restaurant continues to disappoint me, my family, and friends. It's unfortunate because we used to enjoy coming here for the food. It's come to the point where we can't even try to enjoy the food anymore, without something going wrong. This is one of the worst restaurants I've been to with their lack of customer service and disregard for customers. I love Max's! First of all I like the building from outside lol (It's like cabin style) as well as the inside. The food is great and the staff are nice. I ordered my favorite dish in there...sisig! It's so hot, crunchy and spicy! My kinda taste! lol. Lechon kawali is soo good too! Their calamares was delicious as well! We ordered two plates for that because it was only for appetizer and we were in a big group and we still wanted more! The atmosphere makes you feel like you're really in Filipinotown lol. My friends and I went to dinner here before we go clubbing, we got in line and I saw my friend's husband in there and he became our server. We were getting cut in front of by a lot of customers because our group of 5 was "too big" than 5 or more people in a group who were going ahead of us. So I asked the receptionist when is our turn, that's when our server, who happened to be my friend's husband, came and said (just because he knew me) something like "Atat naman kayo...Malapit na..etc" That's the only reason I gave the restaurant a 4. I felt like I was disrespected just because he knew me. We are still customers and we have the right to say what we think is right or whatnot. Anyway, he took us to the upper level. I like sitting on the upper level, kinda like you're on stage or a vip section. Makes me feel very important, haha. I've only gone to the Bar once because of my friend's birthday. It's pretty cool. They have an onstage karaoke in there. You can kinda see what's going on there or hear the people singing in there if you're sitting on the other side of the restaurant in the dining section, haha. I ordered the $65 promo! They said the promo is good for 5 people! They said the pata is large, but the large pata is really the SMALL size PATA! They just tell their customer that their pata is large but actually the size is SMALL with no knuckles. They gave me Sinigang but the regular size and the regular size is the smallest size!!! How will that feed 5 people? Then they gave me a burnt and dry fried chicken with soggy fries! The canton has no flavor and 1 piece of cabbage and small tiny piece of celery!!!! My goodness!!! This is how you treat your customer this time of pandemic crisis??? Then when I picked up my order, i was expecting it was ready because it was a pre order! Being Filipino, I love this type of food. I come here mostly when I am with my other Filipino friends that want a sit down type of restaurant rather than a fast food type of restaurant with already prepared food you choose from. The good: The half chicken has a very crispy skin and tender and juicy meat. Comes right of the bone. The pork adobo was also very tender and delicious. It is served with freshly sliced onions and tomato which is a good combination over rice. The chicken chicharon, or deep fried chicken skin, is not the best for you but I can't help but pick at it. The Kare-Kare is one of my favorites. But I feel they give you more vegies in the dish then meat. The bad: Unfortunately though, the service was not very good. After being seated, we waited about 10 minutes for someone to actually ask to take our order. Our waters came after our meal had arrived. And if they are really busy, it is very hard to get refills. Overall, the food is pretty good. There are a lot of fried dishes, so I would suggest mixing it up with some stew and other variety of dishes. Also, save room for desert. This restaurant was a DISASTER. I think the word disaster would itself be an understatement of how awful the service we received at this place. We had hyped up this place so much to our family friends that when we finally did treat them to dinner there last night, we could never have been more embarrassed. I guess we should have been tipped off when the servers suspiciously did not want us to order more of certain kinds of food. Because when the food came, it was pretty obvious they had run out of certain ingredients and were just trying to make do with what they had left. The kare-kare was the wrong color and definitely missing meat and vegetables.The sinigang pork soup came way too late and was very obviously diluted with water. And they brought the rice after all of the entrees were already there. The waiter apologized that it was because they were short-staffed and they were lacking ingredients, which would be completely understandable had they admitted to that before we had ordered. We visited Max's of Manila and overall had a great experience. Parking is valet only, which is convenient but something to keep in mind when planning your visit. Might get busy so plan ahead. Space is big so it may get loud and cramped. We ordered the whole fried chicken, sinigang na baboy, pancit canton, and rice. It was a lot of food for two people, honestly closer to a portion for three. That said, the chicken itself is on the smaller side, so you might still find yourself finishing it. Everything we ordered was delicious. The sinigang had that perfect balance of sour and savory, and the pancit canton was flavorful and satisfying. As for the fried chicken, there is just something about it that stands out. It is simple but incredibly good. The only downside is that you wish there was more of it. Service was great and fairly quick, even during a busy time. Overall, a solid spot when you are craving classic Filipino comfort food. We will definitely be back when the craving for Max's hits again. read more

Great Filipino food... Just top quality, in my opinion. The only reason I didn't rate them with a 5 is because of cleanliness issues. Like most Asian restaurants I've visited (generally other than Japanese), they allow some things to slip in this area. There was at least one fly continually buzzing around our table for much of the meal; at one point, we even had to return some of the food because the fly had landed on it. To their credit, they cheerfully replaced it. In addition, the toilet area is not well kept. The toilet is an automatic flusher, but was not flushing at all, and so my young son was unable to use it. I have always believed that commitment shown to cleanliness in the bathroom is very probably a reflection of their overall concern for cleanliness, even in areas we might not normally see, like the kitchen. All this said, my family still does very much enjoy our meals here at Max's, and the positives far outweigh the negatives. Cheerful service, and excellent food. read more

I don't normally typically take time to review restaurants on yelp, but let me tell you this place is GREAT. I had the most AWESOME server named Alfredo, he was so nice. Im not a Filipino, but I grew up eating Filipino foods even though I didnt know some of the names of the dishes Alfredo had no problem describing the dishes and figuring out what I like. It was almost like he knew already what I wanted, I barely had to order. Alfredo took EXTRA care to refill my drinks and ask us if we needed any help. I was at the restaurant with my best friend and her son as well. At the end Alfredo suggested a dessert we could all try because my friends son wanted dessert. Alfredo told us he would "Surprise" us and brought the Halo-Halo, which is a dish neither me or my friend have ever tried or seen. IT WAS SO DELICIOUS. HORRIBLE AND DISGUSTING!! Do not ever come to Max's, I just found out that they closed the restaurant yesterday due to an insecticide letter in front of their door, and today they only have a food truck because the dining is closed. I ate with my family and friends on September 18, 2022, and there was a cockroach in our soup I couldn't believe it. We were so excited to eat at Max's but MY GOD what this place offers is illnesses for customers. We came yesterday to complain to the manager but the restaurant was closed which was due to the letter about insecticide, I guess they were rightfully caught of their own unsafe sanitation. DO NOT BRING YOUR FAMILY OR FRIENDS TO EAt. Do not hide my review because customers need to know that Max is terrible. read more

For an upscale Filipino restaurant, this is one of the top. So far my experience dining here with pretty much I tried I'm pretty much satisfied with the taste, its delicious. But there are times that this place is busy expect the wait from the valet parking, to waiting to be seated and the food arrival will take that long, well that is expected of course and quite frustrating specially when you are hungry but the food you will expect a different taste because of busy and rush nope still as good. I'm giving 5 star on food taste not on presentation, ambiance, service, etc. those are simply average for my points of view. Im half filipino so i only like some of the food. When me and my boyfriend walk in they look at us like why in the hell is this white boy and mexican chick here. HA. Then i only order the milkfish cause my grandma isnt close enough to cook if for me. I like that but what i dont like is the adobo. TERRIBLE and RUDE customer service! The person I talked to was very rude and asked me to just place my order online. I also asked them what other bundle Meals ABC or promos they have and she told me to check their website and facebook. I placed and called my order 12:30pm and my food was not ready! Best best as far as Filipino Restaurants are concerned!! The signature Max's Fried Chicken is always the same -- Yummy and crispy and goes so well with the Banana Ketchup. Filipino favorites are done well though don't match home cooking. Every so often, their Pinakbet comes out soggy (overcooked veggies). Service is always prompt. The wait can be long sometimes, but worth it. As of the summer of 2012, they don't serve Tocino breakfast anymore. Try the Tapa toasted cripsy -- super good with the garlic vinegar and fish sauce. Max's is best known for its over priced fried chicken. I've had better Filipino food at Good-Ha than Max's. Everything on the menu is over priced, specially the crispy pata. Which you'll get a measly amount of meat on it, mostly bone and only good for 1 person and you'll be coughing up almost $20 for the pata. If you want legit meaty crispy pata, Toto's on Verdugo is the place to go. It does have a good environment, fun and noisy, like any typical Pinoy gathering. But severely over priced for mediocre portions. I suggest Barrio Fiesta for a more authentic Filipino experience. read more

Used to be a great fan of this place because I was always taken here by my half-filipino cousin during our college days. I remembered that we used to look forward to our Friday pig out here at Max's. Sadly, i don't think still have its former glory (maybe due to the recession?) The only thing that didn't change in taste was the garlic fried rice and the halo-halo, but the servings sure was decreased. Came here yesterday for a late happy fathers day! this place was pretty packed! had to wait about 30 minutes before we were seated, so my family and I decided to walk around the mall for a bit and made it back in time for them to seat us. As we were guided to our seat i noticed the spacing it was pretty large! impressed we had to wait 30 minutes too! We got a tocilog and a dasilog (also called a bangsilog in other places), a miki bihon, and another standalong bangus, and two turon (I was super excited and got way too much food). So, the food is solid, but not like, stand out special. The tocino that I got was an alarming shade of red, but it was DELICIOUS and tender. My partnjer also very much enjoyed the daing, which came in a very generous portion (we now have way too much fried fish at home, but I'm not complaining). The pancit, which we got vegetarian, was solid. I mean, everything was...solid. The garlic rice was fine - I felt the quality of the rice itself could have been a bit better, but the food is good. The service was friendly, and the place itself has a handful of seating options, and was very clean. So here's the thing. Some of their pancits have vegetarian options. However, they don't substitute more protein (like tofu) in, they simply take out the meat they would have put in. But they charge the same amount. I had asked if they could put the chicken on the side, and they weren't able to do that for some reason. I would prefer if they gave me the option for meat on the side, OR (as a more general feedback for their menu) to take a couple dollars off the price if you're just taking the meat out and not substituting it with anything. Because it made me feel like I was getting less, but paying the same amount. That being said, this is going to feed us for a good while. I'm on the fence as to whether or not I'll go back (I mean, I likely will, but this might not be a regular stop). There are other places with silog that are also really good.
