When I opened my take out box, I saw 2 pieces of club sandwich anchored by two toothpicks in each piece. At first I thought they were cutting back their portions by offering half a sandwich. I took the sandwich apart to make a full sandwich consisting of three layers. The layer with bacon and lettuce was a disappointment. The bacon was so scarce it hardly covered one fourth of the bread. The honey mustard was overpowering. I've had better club sandwiches at other places. I would not order this again. Drink prices are high. Not sure why they charge $3.49 for iced tea. read more

I thought I would give them another chance but that was a mistake. They can't seem to get orders right. They also usually have a bad attitude or they're not very bright. They messed up my order and didn't give me the senior discount. I told the manager but she didn't care. The portion size has really sunk. They also left off the jalapeños. The ambiance is terrible as the employees look like they hate their job. I've been to Mccallister's in other states and they're great. Ordered online, waited 15 min to get to the window to pick up an order that had been ready 15 min. Four people came to the window and asked my name all disappearing shortly thereafter. Finally a person shows up and promises ahead has my order but then tells me they are out of tea now so after already waiting 30 min I had to wait another 15 min to get my tea. I saw plenty of people walking around with tea and tea being served after me while I waited for my order across the parking lot. Sad as I really did like their sandwiches but that's an hour I'll never get back of my life. TLDR: Not bad in a pinch A deli-restaurant with a big footprint, so you're paying for the sit-down space. The restaurant is fairly clean, though I saw some tables not bussed, and it was 10 minutes after opening. Service is slow, but staff are polite. Last time, I got what I thought would be a cold sub (the Italian) that was instead toasted so that it was both melty and soggy. This time, a more fair test - the 'New Yorker', which is a combo of pastrami and corned beef with Swiss and spicy brown mustard. The result...still fair. Not bad, but not write-home-good. In fact, head-scratchingly bland - it came loaded with meat (good) and very sour mustard (bad). Decent but I'd go elsewhere. This place scores a 3 out of 5 on the 'CTJ Scale', as noted below. 5 out of 5 stars: Come-to-Jesus good. Would be OK passing away after finishing a plate here. 4 out of 5 stars: Come-to-Mary good. This McAlistair's Deli is not very visible from De Zavala Road. I tend to forget it's there. But I stopped today and was not disappointed. The vegetarían chili was delicious, and the half salad portion was also very good (and large). The restaurant looked very clean and appears spiffed up with a slight remodel and new furniture. I've been here twice in a month. Both times my order has been wrong. The first time I ordered "The Rachel". A Rachel is a turkey sandwich. I ordered on the app and picked up from the drive through. When I got home, I see they made a Reuben which is roast beef. I can not eat roast beef. Had to throw the whole sandwich away. Waste of 15 dollars. I came here again a few weeks later. I got the spicy turkey melt, no bacon. The spicy turkey melt is supposed to come on a baguette with lettuce and tomato. I told them, no bacon. I can not eat bacon. Sandwich comes out. It's missing the lettuce and tomato. It's on ciabatta bread. And of course, you guessed it--there's bacon! I literally do not understand. I can not eat red meat or pork. Do better. I love Mcalisters ! I have some go to food items that I love, like any sandwich that has the honey mustard on it (Mcalisters has their own brand) and the pecan berry salad with sherry shallot dressing (sweet balsamic) instead of the raspberry vinaigrette (too sweet). I have come here multiple times and usually receive adequate service. One time one of the girls even let me have one of their food items for free because I was curious about it, and she said they were going to have to throw it out anyway later. I thought that was above and beyond service! Recently when I went, I waited 20 min before realizing that I never got my food. Even another table saw i hadn't received my food and they came in way after me. i alerted a staff member, and i saw that someone had bombed my food, and not giving it to me. I was asked what my food was, and they brought out to me. It was still wrong. Then they fixed one thing, brought it back to me, and it was still wrong again. I ate it at this point because it was 35 minutes later. i have worked at a Mcalisters for 5 years and i used to give out a free desserts for having to wait that long. I think because I didn't act like a Karen, they just assumed I was OK. I think you should reward people that don't go off on staff. I asked for a cookie and they wanted to charge me for it. I said, I think "I deserve a cookie because I waited 35 minutes for my food." They had a discussion in front of me about whether or not I deserved it. But in the end I got it. It didn't feel very good to not be recognized for my patience and calm demeanor when that was a major mess up. in short: don't just give out free items to Karen's who yell at people and make a big scene. Wow this place is run down, I would even say a dump. It's 98 degrees outside, not much cooler inside, damn. OMG the famous tea sucked. WTF The one person working register is borderline rude. The sandwich menu has good options so I'd love to come here more, but I've had it for the moment. I tend to revisit every several months and in the last 3 years it hasn't improved. I love Mcallister's. Food is fantastic and fast. The reason I give it 3 stars is that lately it has been very dirty in here! Which is such a shame because it's such a great restaurant and they are very nice. But tables are dirty with sauces and liquids on them, restrooms trash is over flowing and there really is trash on floor and throughout restaurant. They aren't super busy today in particular either. The reward system is not good compared to everywhere else. Only one receipt can be scanned on a day so my cookie got scanned for points and the entire $35 food order did not. Then when I went back to scan the receipt later it said it was too old. I'll go back to potbelly's where there's no hassles for earning sandwich rewards. read more

She ordered the sweet chipotle chicken sandwich which she truly enjoyed! Half a sandwich made her full though so couldn't enjoy salad. I ordered the grilled chicken sandwich. Absolute trash service and management. "We are in a lunch rush" is not an excuse for a restaurant to have poor service. I ordered my meal online and was told when I arrived at the pick up window that it will be another 15 minutes because "we are in a lunch rush". As we came in, we're told that we couldn't eat inside, not due to COVID, but because of lack of staff. We decided to order two sandwiches and eat them outside on the patio. There were cars piling up in the drive through and it became quickly evident the kitchen could not keep up. After ten minutes of waiting the staff locked the doors so when customers came up to them and found them locked, they would look through the glass, see us standing there, and give us the "what's going on?" look. There was no staff to explain. After 15 more minutes we inside still didn't have our food. We got someone's attention and though he apologized profusely, the only solution from him was to refund our money (after wasting 25 minutes of our time). I said to him I seldom wait this long for food in a 5 star restaurant, which I proved in such an establishment that very night. The food was decent but it ain't cheap. And to wait so long for service made me feel I was in my doctor's office. This was the second bad McAllisters experience my wife and I had in SA. It's off our list. read more

I have been going to the de Zavala location for a few years. It's always been my go-to place where I can grab something quick to eat and always count on good service... until today! I ordered my food online and got into the pick up lane (as I ALWAYS do). The girl at the window gets my name and tells me "um you literally just ordered your food, you know that right?" I told Her "yes I know, I placed it a few minutes ago." She tells me "well you're going to have to pull up to that parking lot because it's NOT ready!" Let me preface this by saying they were not busy by any means! But nonetheless I pulled into the parking lot and waited. She watched me from the to go window as she played on her phone!!! Finally after 10 minutes, she goes to the back of the kitchen (yes, I can see everything from this parking spot!) and comes out with my food. She's skipping to my car, I rolled my window down, she hands me my food and walks away. Didn't say "thank you for waiting" or "have a good day" she said absolutely nothing. I could not believe how rude she was being. Never again will I go back to mcalisters. read more

McAlister's Deli looks better than it actually is. That's not to say that their product is bad but just that the pictures always look so much better than the product presented you. The sandwiches, for example, always look like they have twice as much meat as the exact same one that was just delivered to your table. You would think that we as consumers would be used to this but each time we hold out that tiny flicker of hope in that what we see on the display is what ends up on our plates. A few things that I have tried at McAlister's that tend to be my 'Go to" orders, are the bread bowl soups and the spuds. Is there anything better truly cleaning your plate - or in this case bowl? There's something entirely satisfying about chowing down some chowder and then biting down on that bread bowl. I like the potato soup which is quite hearty, and the broccoli cheese. The other item that I quite enjoy is the loaded spuds. Now, one caveat - these things are huge! Like the size of a football cut in half. So, it's not like, "Well, I'm a bit peckish so I'll get the Rueben with chips, pickle, and tea, and oh, well, gimme one of them chili baked potatoes." But then again, that may be your standing order - I'm not judging. Evidentially, this place is know for their iced tea. Yeah, this and about 2500 other places south of the Mason-Dixon Line. It's tea. Nothing special. I actually prefer their lemonade. To each his own. As a bonus, McAlister's offers free WiFi, and outdoor seating. It's not my first choice for lunch or even sandwiches but if someone suggests it, I wouldn't complain. There have a sufficient variety of hot and cold sandwiches, sides, such as salads (veges, potato, pasta, fruit, chips), and soups in bread bowls or not. This used to be my go-to place for a great sandwich, but I've been disappointed the last few visits. Their hot sandwiches are, at best, luke warm, and some of the sandwich ingredients are added so sparingly that I've actually thought they left ingredients out before. I've even tried to vary my orders to make sure it's not just the same sandwich, but alas, it is the same regardless. Today I had a Spicy Southwest Chicken Griller (sandwich), and though it had good flavor overall, there was no "spicy" at all, and the chicken (the main ingredient) was so sparse I took a couple of bites that didn't even have chicken in it. Ok...so...the company made the last few visits triumph over the one bad experience...like i said b4...i usually have a great experience here and things have returned to normal...not only did the company send me a free meal card in order to rectify the problem...the staff is friendly and seem happy...even during this 5pm visit...i really enjoy the food...choose two is usually my fave but this black cherry spinach salad has been on my mind since its introduction! Dressing comes on the side and i always have some left over dressing...they are not frugal with the dressing for thoes who like a drenched salad...I adore that there is something different in every bite of salad and enough toppings for every bite of salad ...ask for extra pecans..i am super happy with the salad portions...def texas sized!
