I came here and had the Buon Apetito and it was delish! The bread is delicious, it's just spicy enough to have a kick but not overpowering, and the chicken is yummy. It can be a bit of a messy sandwich and you cannot taste the cheese at all with the rest of the other ingredients, but it's a really strong sandwich and a good size for the price. It took quite a while to get my order but the staff was super duper nice! Will definitely return to try some of the other sandwiches! read more

I went to Mean Sandwich and I can't help but endorse this place. As you roll up to the front, you're immediely drawn to the mouth logo, the yellow and black color scheme, and the glass bricks. So at first glance, you want to go in. The inside is open and the bar seating invites every one to enjoy an amazing snadwich and people watch and the booths provide a nice space for your friends or loved ones. The back area is pretty amazing too. Aside from a nice place to eat during a sunny day, different events are held back there and I can't wait to see what else they plan on hosting. The Mean Sandwich itself was absolutley amazing. Every flavor was balanced out with another. The saltiness of the corned beef and the mint, and the mustard and pickled cabbage with the maple syrup. Decided to grab a (1) sandwich to go, with a side of potato skins after some drinks next door. When we walked in (~30 minutes before close) there was one group in front of us ordering, so the line wasn't bad. After we ordered, we waited about 15 min before we checked in to make sure we didn't miss our name, and their response was "there were several orders in front of you, so you're going to be waiting a bit " as though they they gave us a time expectancy, (they didn't) and we were being pushy. Then after forty minutes of waiting and finally getting our order called, we picked up our bag and started driving home, we then realized that we didn't even get what we ordered. We had ordered the "mean sandwich" and ended up with a falafel sandwich (which is less expensive than what we paid for). The flavors were okay but the falafel was exceptionally dry and it was really disappointing because we were expecting to get corned beef and homemade cabbage (what we actually ordered). And in our opinion, the skins were over cooked, bordering on burnt. Overall, the service was horrible and the food is best described as "meh". I would never recommend this place to anyone based on our experience. read more

Went in for a sandwich today. My girlfriend asked for the mean sandwich, but she doesn't like mint on it. The owner refused to make a sandwich without mint and then went into a whole diatribe about how it's the perfect sandwich and stories about his grandmother and some guy who fashioned the perfect sandwich in New York. He was giving her a hard time for ordering it the way that she knows she likes it. He kept going on and on. I have worked in the service industry for 25 years in restaurants, and I have seen chefs get upset about substitutions, but this guy's level of butt hurt is through the roof. Great sandwich with quality ingredients. I was a little surprised at the size of the "Mean" as it's on a regular hamburger bun. For $15 ($20 w/cheese, tax and a healthy tip) I was expecting something closer to a sub size, but the meat was thick and plentiful. Skins...OK, might be better with the sauce. I've only gotten one thing here: The Mean Sandwich. It's an untraditional take on a corned beef sandwich, but the flavors are amazing. A thick slab of really great hot corned beef, picked cabbage for some acid, plenty of mint leaves for an interesting freshness, and some bright yellow seedy mustard. -Went here for the first time after a morning of errands. Excellent pull-up -to- super friendly and helpful contactless order and pay -to- car or outside delivery/pick up. Food was hot and fresh. I had the Mean Sandwich at the suggestion of the gent who served me, and the side of salt/pepper/skin-on potatoes and it was out of this world. The flavors on this sandwich were next level, evolved, complex and delicious. All veggies (red cabbage, greens) on the sammie were fresh and crunchy. The brisket was a combination of melt in your mouth juiciness with the crunchy bits - similar to perfect carnitas - dreamy. Brioche bun was perfect - not crunchy or too soft - right in between. The potatoes were crunchy and browned and in perfect bite sizes with a generous amount of salt and seasoning. Topped it all off with a ginger beer and my stomach and tastebuds haven't stopped smiling since. I can't wait to return. Serious food, seriously good. read more

I struggled with how many stars to give this place. I've always wanted to love it. They use local ingredients, are always friendly, have a nice back patio and are a fun spot right off the bridge. They're even dog friendly! However every time I go, something goes wrong. We went today on a sunny Memorial Day weekend knowing it would probably be crowded. After ordering they quoted us 15-20 minutes for our two sandwiches. 40 minutes later after not having our food we asked how long and they said another 5. 15 minutes later, so a total of 55 minutes after ordering, we finally had our two sandwiches. Then unfortunately both sandwiches and fries were burnt to a crisp (I assume they turned up the fryers to try and speed up/ lessen wait times) and they forgot both our drinks. I know times are tough and they're a small kitchen but be honest with me when I order that's it's going to take a while. I might go somewhere else for the day but I'll be more likely to come back in the future. Unfortunately I think it's the last time I'll be eating there. read more

Drive across town to try this place out and they had a sign on the door saying they were out of food. Went inside to ask about it and they said they sold out of buns so they closed the kitchen down, mind you, this was only 3 hours into their hours of operation. Decades of restaurant experience and I've never heard of closing the kitchen for a lack of bread - go get a runner and make it happen! The only thing that could have made it worse was the fact that they said come back in a couple hours when they'll be having a special event... for which they had food in reserve. I love mistard, but yhis was over the tip - the salt burn from all by at yellow mustard was intense and very unpleasant. I scraped as much mustard off as I could and ate the sandwich. Excellent sandwiches, great service, and kid friendly! I had the midnight at the oasis falafel sandwich and it may be the best sandwich I've ever had! The falafel was perfectly cooked - crispy, not dry - the pickles added depth, and the white sauce tied it all together. Prices may seem high for a sandwich, but they are huge. The one sandwich on it's own ended up being two full meals for me, so the price is right. My 5 year old loved his grilled cheese sandwich. We came in on a busy lunch time over the past weekend. The place was packed, which we assumed was quite a good sign. The staff was friendly and patient with us. It took about 5 to 10 minutes in order to receive our order which included a kids grilled cheese sandwich and 2 of their chicken (Buono Appetito) sandwiches. The chicken was a bit over fried - crust was dark) and meat a bit dried out. I enjoyed the sandwich nonetheless but my wife gave up. I am sure things are still being worked out. Ermagerd. I have walked by, driven by, cycled by, staggered by (darn brewery crawls!) this place and never stopped in. Until today. I would be filled with regret, but instead my belly is full of Mean Sandwich!!! Sooo tasty! And unique! Instead of a buttery gut bomb, I enjoyed slightly crisped but super tender thick slices of corned beef with a light and flavorful slaw and surprising and refreshing mint leaves on a fresh, delicious macrina bun. (The actual menu item Mean Sandwich.)Then, because my partner knows better than to keep new food from me, I "tasted" his Jersey sub. (And by "tasted", I mean I ate about a quarter of it! Oops!) Wow. I'm a philly girl and it's rare to find a well-prepared hoagie with excellent deli meats that are stored and sliced properly. (If you know what a hoagie is, you know what I mean.) The Jersey Sub was delicious: excellent balance of meat, cheese and bread with the perfect amount of lettuce, oil and vinegar. The fries will be a crap shoot: I loved the deep fried chunks of potatoes, but you might be more into stringy fries and that's just personal preference.
