This place is great! We initially went because you can usually find coupons in your ValPak mailer. Most everything here was great. So what did I have in mind ‍? I said we will walk to DTMV. The girlfriend put up a good fight arguing it's a 2-hr walk 1-way but we went walking . I did concede to taking 1 coffee break once we got to DTMV so, you see, i have a heart. Before heading home the girlfriend asks what i had in mind for dinner. I thought it would be too late to cook so i checked my Groupon app and voila I had a Groupon deal to this place. It is a $40 Groupon. The lady says i need to buy 4 items, appetizers & sides don't count. She suggested that we buy the $20 deal next time since it's only 2 of us. I nodded. Then I noticed Yelp has a check-in offer of $10 off for $25. These are all good deals. Okay, about the food. Obviously I ordered more than what two people can eat but it's okay I don't mind leftovers. We got the house special plate, the eggplant wrap, the chicken kabob plate & the dolma plate . Carrying the food home was fun but I don't feel the girlfriend shares my sense of fun. So the eggplant wrap looks suspiciously like a burrito but it was my favorite dish of the 4. The eggplant was lightly battered thus had a crispy crunch to it. The girlfriend liked the house special plate the most. The dolma plate was our least favorite. The Girlfriend thought it tasted bland & the side salad was too salty. The chicken kabob was okay. I thought it was kinda dry. Overall, with the Groupon deal it was a good buy. 4.5 stars! The first time I came here *many* years ago, I had a lackluster experience, and didn't come back for a few years. It was honestly below average that night -- the meat was on the dry/greasy side, the tomato & cucumber salad was way too vinegary (and I love vinegar!). Plus, even though it was late at night and almost deserted, it was a *really* long wait to get my food. Well, it's been years since then, and many other restaurants have come and gone, and Med Grill House is still around. So I've come back many times since then -- probably roughly once a month, which is quite a lot considering how many restaurants there are nearby, and even more options with GrubHub & DoorDash. WHAT CHANGED? Honestly, mostly me. :) The things I experienced the first time weren't a fluke: sometimes, the meat is dry, and then the cook appears to compensate by adding more oil. The tomato & cucumber salad is usually enjoyable -- but sometimes it's maybe been left a bit too long, while at other times it tastes like it's just been made and the flavors haven't had time to meld -- and then the acid *bites*. Most times the baba ghanoush is fabulous -- but sometimes it's a bit watery. Which is a very long way of saying this *isn't* fast food -- real humans prepare it onsite, and sometimes the ingredients or the prep goes a bit better than at other times. It's not out of this world -- but most of the time, it hits the spot. Two other things to keep in mind are (1) for downtown MV, this is one of the more affordable options, and (2) it's relatively healthy: meat, hummus, veg, some potatoes/white rice/pita, but honestly not bad for takeout. Even better if you get it home and add enough greens/lettuce to make a few salads out of whatever you bought! I do suggest, unless you're on a tight budget or just grabbing a wrap, to always add a veggie delight plate to share or even eat by yourself! You get a lot of great flavors and textures that way, making a very nice contrast (and nutritional boost) to the meat-based plates. If you don't finish, most of it will keep a couple days in the fridge. The other thing that has remained true is that even when they're not busy, it often takes 30-40 min to get your food. Once it was only 15 min, and I was surprised! So the thing to do is to call / order in advance -- and because the wait time varies, I suggest calling *at least* 40 min out, and telling them when you plan to come. That's the best way not to wait or pick up lukewarm food. Oh, and if the cucumber & tomato salad is too fresh/sharp, just stir the little container of yogurt into it, and it's even tastier! TLDR: Good value for downtown MV + healthy for takeout. Order the veggie delight plate! Unless you like to wait, call in at least 40 min in advance and let them know when you'll pick up! BTW, the people here are pretty nice! Sometimes they're busy and tired, but if you're nice to them, they'll be nice to you. :) read more

I have been going to this restaurant for years but after my last few experiences I won't be going back. Every time I order take out in advance they never start my order until after I arrive to pick it up and then there's zero sense of urgency. So I give them 15-20 minutes head start and then wait another 15 minutes or more for them to get their act together when the food should be waiting for me. I have no patience for a business that consistently wastes my time. Hummus down the street has a similar menu, better food and way better service. Normally I go to Sweetgreen when on this part of Castro but I poked my head in here just to see what they had on the menu and decided to stay. The staff here are a family like operation and it's a very casual place but clean. There were many veggie options here that I saw and the lady working there verified their tahini and falafels and hummus are all vegan. They have a really good veggie plate here that has a little bit of everything. Recommend the veggie delight platter if you want something filling as it comes with all kinds of goodies like falafel balls, dolma, hummus, babaganoush, spiced potatoes and salad. Make sure to tell them to leave off the yogurt if you want vegan. The falafel here is very crunchy so if you like them that way you will like them here. The other veggie dish I had when I wanted more of a smaller lunch is their Veggie Kebob Plate. This comes with mixed veggies such as tomatoes onions, red and green bell peppers, mushrooms that are grilled with some spices and they lay it over a large bed of rice and then include a side of hummus and salad with a few pieces of pita. The veggies on this plate are really well seasoned and grilled my only complaint is I would have liked a few more varieties of veggies. The rice was really fluffy and the hummus was very smooth and silky tasting and went well with the veggies. The small salad it comes with is simple with tomatoes cucumbers and onions was fresh and crunchy and had a nice light dressing. On other thing nice about this place is you first pay for your food but then they do bring out your plates to your table. I've been coming here for many years and I think it's delivering consistently good food, at least for me. Once the pandemic restrictions lessened I came here with my family to eat outside. All of us and the staff were wearing masks when we placed the order so some miscommunication happened. I ended up not getting served the order i thought i had placed despite the others getting theirs. I went inside and asked what happened. The cash register person apologized and served me the dish within a few minutes without charging for it. I get the kebabs and always enjoy talking with the owner. The tabboleh is totally amazing! The veggies are fresh and the rice is just right! The lamb can be cooked to order so ask if you don't want it well done. I recommend medium rare for the most flavorful! The hummus is always fresh made and the white sauce is a yogurt sauce that works well as a condiment. I recommend sharing a meal with a friend or order to go! I wish that I could post a review based upon their food, but I've never even eaten there. I purchased a Groupon 3 months ago, but when I tried to use it, the restaurant quoted me terms and conditions that were not on my version of the Groupon. I wanted to order one item, but they claimed (falsely) that I had to order two. After arguing with the staff, they had the gall to say to me, "I have your name, and I'm going to report you to Groupon!" The owner, Mr. Hasan and daughter Alayna (forgive me if I mispelled) are so kind and very welcoming. Whenever I call in my food they recognize my voice and that shows how attention to detail they give for customer service. My go to is the chicken Sharwarma plate and I sub the regular rice for the mujaddarah rice comes with salad and hummus and pita bread and I must say it's a very good portion enough to make 2 meals. It comes with a generous amount of chicken, rice, pita bread, your choice of salad (Mediterranean salad or tabbouleh), and hummus or baba ghanoush. I always go with the tabbouleh and hummus. Both are consistently fresh, and the tabbouleh here is the standard by which I measure other places by. When a restaurant caters large batches of food, quality often suffers. We decided to drop by the Mediterranean Grill House for a quick wrap before getting back to work and upon walking in, the place was packed! That's usually a good sign that a place will be solid, but I was ultimately disappointed by my meal. I ordered the lamb and beef wrap which I was told was supposed to be more filling than the falafel I was eyeballing. I found the meat really dry, and there was no sauce to pour on in sight. I wasn't sure if was the lamb or beef or both, but it was definitely not an impressive meal. They've got a ton of tables outside on the sidewalk patio that welcome your dog on a warm day. Tables inside area very cramped though. Service was a little spotty, but the food was just not appetizing.
