We were starving after we were done at the MagiQ Escape Room. This place was very close and we LOVE Thai food. Parking was challenging, but we got lucky when we found ONE open spot on the street very near to the restaurant. My brother on the other hand had a little bit of a walk. They were not busy, so we got seated right away. The place looked neat and clean. There were six of us in a booth, so it was a little tight. The table was also a little too small to hold all the food that we ordered. The food was so good, but Thai food isn't that cheap. The service definitely could have been better. I had called 30 minutes prior to their late closing time and the gentlemen was really nice and said come straight in and order. I had the intention of dining in and when I got there he said it was for pick-up only because of the closing time, but he accommodated us and said for us to go ahead and eat there. The food was decent, good flavoring, I liked the crunchy egg rolls and Pad Thai noodles. Since it is one of the Thai places open late, I would go back. It's just a distance from me but reasonable. This is a local restaurant which specializes in Asian/thai cuisine. It's owned by a lovely husband and wife. I have eaten there many many times over the past couple of years but especially this year. What is great: Their hours. They are almost always open. According to the owner they need to be open late to survive. Recommend: Some of their specialty dishes like their traditional Thai noodles are both abundant in portion and delicious. The vibe: Pretty low key and basically empty so you feel like you are in the restaurant by yourself. What's not so great: I had one of their chicken and rice dishes - NEVER AGAIN (I'm not sure how you screw up chicken but ugh). Their wonton soup: a very lackluster amount of stuff in the soup.. and I felt pretty queasy after eating it (2X) so NEVER AGAIN. Especially for like $18. Their prices: For the quality of the food, this restaurant is overpriced. Especially compared to their competitors. Service: Extremely slow. Only go here when you have PLENTY of time. Seriously, for a restaurant that is usually looking to ramp up business, this place is really slow. I am always TRYING to support local businesses. So go to MELANEE THAI, and judge for yourself. Stopped by with a group of friends on Wednesday night. It was empty and quiet when we arrived. We were seated right away, and they turned on the music for us which was nice. We ordered steamed dumplings to share, and I ordered Pad See Ew for myself. The food was great. A little pricey but reasonable with the large portion sizes. Everyone had leftovers to bring home! The pad see ew had only a stem of broccoli in what was just noodles and bits of chicken without the usual flavor of pad see ew. The green curry was a dull tan color, tasted watered down, and only had chicken and a few pieces of old-tasting eggplant. Friends and I were hungry after late night tennis and couldn't find anywhere decent to eat at around 10:30pm. Thankfully Melanee Thai was open. It was a new restaurant to all of us. We were greeted and seated, provided menus and water. I had the melanee special which was glass noodles with shrimp. It was so good! I don't know how people can say it's expensive and then say "the portions are huge I have left overs for days!" That means there is value then because you're saving on another meal, being able to eat it again. Everything is expensive nowadays but at least you get a large serving. I wanted some thai food on my way home and just happened upon this place and I'm sad I didn't find it sooner when I was working basically next door! All I got was pad see ew with chicken but it was really solid, the flavor was great, they actually used Chinese broccoli not regular broccoli (which is such a red flag in my opinion, regular broccoli gets too soggy for pad see ew!) and the chicken is still moist and there's big chunks of it. But where this place really shines is the portions. Dear lord. I don't think I'll be able to finish this over the entire weekend and it's currently Thursday. Like yes this was $21/$22 dollars but I don't think I've ever seen this much pad see ew in my life. Oh I also got vinegary jalapeños on the side which were nice and sour and spicy. 07/01/2021 Along Pico Blvd, you can literally pass this place if you aren't looking for it. It's on the south side of Pico on a hill. Couple of meters in the front with a 5 minute loading space. When you check-in, you receive 10% off of your bill. In my case, it was just 1 item ordered. I called it in so I could pick it up as soon as it is ready. I talked to Paul and he asked the small or large order. I don't know as I have not been here before. $12 vs $15 for the order so I went with the small order. When I stopped in, I talked to Paul for a minute. Showed him the check-in discount. He suggested I eat my order of pad Thai with white rice. Comes with 1 veggie egg roll with dipping sauce. It's a good healthy portion even for a small order. Next time I want shrimp instead of chicken. I took a selfie with Paul as I am sure to return to try something else. I ordered Julien's special pineapple fried rice with pineapple chicken curry and Thai iced tea. There was enough food for two people to share and very reasonable prices. The pineapple in both the rice and curry added a sweetness to the fried rice and curry that was very pleasant. The owner treated me well and his wife made great food. I'm giving this restaurant 4 stars because it's open late, fast, reliable, and the entree I like (basil chicken) isn't overly drenched in heavy sauces like other restaurants. Also last time I ordered the sticky rice mango it's was inedible because it tasted like fish. I accidentally ordered this on UberEats a second time after vowing not to eat here ever again and now I remember which place this is. I'm not terribly upset because I like the meal but it is a slightly pricier Thai restaurant compared to boom Thai down the street... and the memory of the fishy mango is very disturbing especially when expecting fresh mango over quality sticky rice. Open until 2am, clear vegan options, and a chef who is actually from Thailand practicing his craft in the kitchen for decades, say no more. Wanted to order vegan take out to ensure they do not use fish oyster sauce, egg, meat, shrimp oil etc. Kind man answered the phone with so much positivity I had to place an order. Huge portions, wow. Ordered Pad Thai with vegetables (broccoli, carrots, sprouts, green onion), no peanuts. Half thin rice noodles, half pad see ew flat rice noodles. There was a different orange color in noodles which I'm not normally used to, but I believe it's from tamarind/paprika/light chili pepper like sriracha without brown colored oyster sauces etc. Chef Paul is amazing and really cares about customer needs. If you order through DoorDash or delivery services, just specify in your notes! I called in advance to be sure and they will pay attention to your instructions if you have allergies.
