I've been occasionally getting lunch at Melange for the last ~15 years (save covid) since I work in the same building. In that time I have, sadly, seen their quality go down and their prices have skyrocketed. They used to serve a few daily hot dishes that were quite good - Now they do 10+ each day and they aren't nearly as appetizing. I particularly miss the good curry they used to serve. The other issue is cost - I ended up paying ~$22 for Teriyaki and a bottle of soda. I know it is an expensive location and all, but $22!? I can walk a block away and save $4-$5 at a place around the corner. that has better food. The last pet peeve - Tipping. Their default tip screen is 20%/25%/30%. I am more than happy to tip for service, but asking for a 30% tip for an employee that took 30 seconds to dish me up pre-cooked teryaki and rice from steam trays is inexcuseable. I've gotten to the point where the only time I go to Melange is when I only have ten minutes to get food. There are plenty of better-tasting and more affordable options within a few blocks that I generally hit when possible. read more

Pro's: Value, coffee Cons: just so-so breakfast sandwiches. I tried both the bacon & egg as well as the sausage & egg and would recommend the sausage version as their bacon wasn't the best quality. They had one burrito left but it appeared to be pretty small. They have a deal for two sandwiches/burritos for $8. Now their regular coffee is honestly pretty good. Service was ok, not bad or really that good. Location is nice and I'm certain the market is used extensively by the employees in the building. I was simply waiting on the bus downtown and looking for a quick bite before class. Perhaps I'm being too generous to give 4 stars but I'll have to give them another try with their lunch menu and see if I change my mind. read more

I work across the street and Melange is my go-to for lunch. They do still sell soup, its towards the back of the store, 2 per day. Always solid. Sandwiches are handmade and take a bit of time, but they are good. If you are in a hurry they have a big grab and go section. With many things not on their other menus. My stop is almost always the daily special area - I get the Fiesta Chicken salad almost every day. The guy working there is friendly, knows my order. He is a bit quiet - but always tells me to have a good day and is perfectly friendly. I enjoy everyone that works here, they are a part of most of my days. read more

Really sad whats happened to this place, we can't go anymore because a previously $7 sandwich (not a sub, a regular sandwich) is $15. I expected an increase after covid and inflation but that's way too much. FOR BREAKFAST they have prepared food items such as a breakfast burrito, sausage, bacon, and ham sandwiches, scrambled eggs or combinations with sausage, bacon, or potatoes, and biscuits & gravy, toasts, bagel, and made to order breakfast sandwiches. Say no more. They got me at BACON & BISCUITS & GRAVY! FOR LUNCH, they serve daily specials, lasagna, spaghetti, teriyaki, yaki soba, veggie fried rice, made to order or prepared salads, soups (4 kinds), made to order sandwiches, and select fresh fruits. Their staff are freindly and the owner is friendly as well. He will interact with you, make small conversations as well as joke around with you. I think that's neat and makes for a fun and personable experience. I enjoy that they have a trivia question daily and if you get the answer correctly, you get a piece of candy, that's always fun. I'm a regular here, the Hispanic guy in the kitchen has always had an attitude problem. I am able to let it go for months - but today, 10.04.2022 they are serving Chicken Curry and I asked if he could separate the rice and put the curry in a different container. Because I wanted to share the food with another person...he just let out the deepest sigh of his life, like someone has died and tossed the spoon in the pan and angrily said to me, I HAVE TO CHARGE YOU EXTRA FOR THE CONTAINER! I did a search for breakfast burritos near me, and this place appeared in the results so I went to try them out. I grabbed a sausage breakfast burrito, and a bacon burrito for their 2 for $8 deal. These are pre-made quick grab and go items, so points there for convenience. but aside from that, they're not very good They're made with the listed protein, egg, cheddar and shredded potato, which is normally perfect for me, but the potato were raw and that was basically all I could taste. The burritos are also steamed instead of grilled, so they have that raw tortilla taste too. I also tried their bacon muffin, and that too was just ok. The staff were fine, they weren't friendly, and they weren't rude - they're just doing their job. read more

This market is in the heart of the corporate center in Seattle. This is definitely a hidden gem for a quick sandwich or snack. They have a decent sized hot bar as well as a quick order sandwich menu to choose from for your freshest choices. The veggie sandwich was pretty comparable to your average cafe in Seattle, and the price is agreeable. The drink selection is not super great, but they have a decent selection of the more popular drink choices. The service is definitely one of the best parts. They are quick on getting you in and out without a fuss. You really can't ask for more from a corner shop on the ground floor of a skyscraper. This is definitely in my rotation when I'm in the area. It will probably prove to be difficult to avoid without trying to try other places. read more

Food is okay. Customer service is consistently awful. I ran down today to grab a salad. The guy behind the counter (I think he's one of the owners) is always nice, but the woman (an employee) is constantly rude to everyone. The listed hours on the door are 6:30-3:30; I went at 2:45pm. The guy greets me and asks if I'm after a salad. I say yes, and he says the woman will be right with me. She walks over and goes 'so we're normally closed by now' and is acting like I'm the biggest inconvenience that ever lived. 45 minutes before closing time, and I've apparently no right to be there, I guess. I was so taken aback that I kinda stammered for a sec, then said 'look, I can just go elsewhere'. She audibly sighs, says 'it's fine', and makes the salad (badly; there was way too much dressing, and nowhere near enough lettuce). I took my stuff, paid, and fled. I can't fault the convenience, as I work in the 1201 third building, but seriously. I was not rude, did not ask you to reopen for me, and was not inconveniencing you in any way, save the fact that you were trying to close early. Stop being so rude to people, we don't deserve to be treated this way, especially when I am always perfectly nice to you. read more

Been coming to Melange now for a few months since discovering this hidden gem. My main reason for eating here 2-3 times a week is because their food is simple, precise (Not overdone in any area), and always fresh. Price seems to be a dollar less and the portions seem to be fair to a notch bigger than the competitors around them. The owners and staff always seemed to be kind and sweet folks. But what really prompted me to write this review is I just tried heading in there for a very late lunch and noticed they were closed. The owner was closing down the till but came up to me personally and apologized for being close and asked if I need to buy a drink or snack? I said no, I was more looking for food. He said, wait a second and walked towards a pile of fresh made sandwiches from the day (As if it was a donation pile for the homeless or something), grabbed two and brought it up to me by the door and asked, pick one. I picked the turkey cheese (It was so good in a classic way) and when I reached for my wallet, he said it's okay with smile, closed the door and went back to closing down the deli. Its cold blooded calculated competitive 2016, downtown Seattle, and who does that? Simply, Melange and the owner is a generous class act! This is why I support this local small business. read more

It's Monday. I didn't bring a lunch today. It's also unseasonably cold: snow flurries mixed in with the standard Seattle wet and gray. I will have to seek my lunch outside the office, but I have no desire to step foot outside the building. Lucky for me I have Melange Market just one short elevator and escalator ride away. Today's special is a Taco Salad. I could also have chicken teriyaki, spaghetti, or sushi. Or, I may choose from their rotating selection of four soups. OR, I might get a custom made sandwich, most likely the Gobbler with turkey, cran and cream cheese. You get the drift. You can pretty much get anything your little heart desires. At check out I will most likely treat myself to some candy for a mid-afternoon sugar rush to propel me through the end of the day. And most likely, the guy at the register will address me as 'Beautiful', a sweet and habitual gesture that will make me feel awkward and special at the same time. read more

I can't believe I haven't updated this review. As you can tell, my initial thought of this place was horrid due to my experience during their breakfast time. Granted I haven't been back for their breakfast, I must say that their lunch choices are always great. This place is perfect for "grab & go". They have many different hot food options as well as a sandwich counter for any type of sandwich you please. If you're even more in a hurry you can grab a pre-made salad or soup as well. Their lines moves quickly, everything about this place screams efficiency. Some of my personal favorites include the Golden BBQ chicken sandwich, the Pesto chicken sandwich, and the BLTC. I've worked across the street from this place for 13 years. Usually mediocre service and mediocre food. Their sandwiches are a few dollars less than most, and now I know why. The bacon is not double cut, as indicated. It is paper thin and charred to a crisp. No flavor whatsoever. The egg salad is bland. I had to salt my sandwich- even though there was bacon. The bacon provided a crunchy texture- but no flavor. I don't think I am going to waste any more of my money here. "Hidden gem"? More like a turd in the bushes. read more

When it comes to quick lunch at the office, Melange has to be at the top of the list. The food's exceptional, the staff is friendly, and the lines move pretty fast. They rotate hot specials each day of the week, as well as soups. They also have a sandwich bar. I usually alternate between any of the great salads: fiesta chicken, southwestern, chicken caesar, etc. Sometimes I''ll add one of the homemade soups: Mexican tortilla or lasagna. Came here for lunch yesterday because I hadn't cooked the night before, and ordered their special of the day, which was a chicken burrito. Located just off of the street they have a nice outdoor vestibule that you can shove items into your bag on a rainy day without needing to worry about getting everything else soaked; very handy. OK so when my friend came back with spaghetti and meat sauce my stomach instantly started rumbling. When I inquired about where to procure the tomatoey goodness he pointed me towards Melange. Although it took me a minute or so to locate the establishment I was able to order my spaghetti with meat sauce accompanied by a "salad" and garlic bread. Salad in the sentence above is in quotations for a reason...it isn't salad. It is just a handful of lettuce which does not equate to salad. Also the garlic bread was a little lack luster...slightly stale if you ask me. The spaghetti on the other hand wasn't half bad...the sauce had a good taste and the noodles were cooked right. All in all...it was OK. I am hoping to try some of their other food soon since they seem to have a large selection to choose from despite their small size. Hopefully they will have that turkey pot pie that I saw on the specials menu again...that sounds divine! read more

This place is totally hidden in a very cool building right on Second Avenue. You'll never find it. Only a local can help you. HA! Anyway great place to have lunch when you need to eat something quick, inexpensive and very good. They always have a weekly special. Sandwiches, toasted bagels, toasted treats, Lasagna and Spaghetti specials with a salad. Oh need a candy bar with that bottle of Maalox, power bar and stamps? Here is the trick, go during lunch time, during the week around 12 to 1 pm then go into the atrium to eat next door. Sometimes they have an awesome piano player in the middle of the atrium playing to all the people here! First thing I noticed is my favorite Stash English Breakfast tea! I was sold! Couldn't find the trash can . . . bad radio very loud . . . but ooh, look at all the food choices! I bought a breakfast burrito. Everyone there was seriously nice and normal, nobody casting any shade. All's good. Five minutes later lined up at DMV eating my cold burrito. One bite had sausage that I could detect. I think it was mostly potato, previously frozen, undercooked mealy feeling. Made edible by the salsa. Melange is amazing. Great food and variety, exceptional service, speedy and in a wonderful location. I frequent for lunch at least once per work week, going with daily hot lunch specials or delicious sandwiches. Reasonable prices too and soups are bomb on a chilly Seattle day. Also, when the weather brightens up there is an amazing downstairs spot to eat in the outside courtyard or head into the bottom space at 1201 Third Ave (WaMu Tower) for a great atmosphere. I hesitate to even write this glowing review, because my lunch hour is sacred time, and I would hate to stand in line behind even more people waiting for a delicious bagel sandwich. I'd say I'm a sandwich connoisseur, and I've sampled the downtown wares pretty thoroughly. For a deli, Melange gets my vote. All the bread you could want, plus Havarti cheese (not a given) and fresh vegetables. The slices of bread are enormous, and they also have decent bagels (if toasted) and small ciabatta loafs if you're in the mood for something spongy. On top of the sandwich line, there's a hot lunch station where they also toss fresh salads. The salads are simple but delish. I think the key to this place is that everything is always fresh. Not always a given in the downtown lunch market. I'm actually not too familiar with their hot lunch, but they generally have a daily special, and there is usually a pretty decent line, so I imagine it's relatively tasty. Then you got your soup station. 4 choices, but get to that early in the lunch rush if you don't want to be scraping the bottom. The rest of this place is filled with fruit, candy (so good), coffee, a plethora of drinks, cottage cheese, hard boiled eggs (true) and the like. A good place to go if you're hungry and don't know what you want. I also keep going back to this place (sometimes 4 times a week) because the staff and owners are so damn nice. So try it out.
