I absolutely loved this location!!! We have visited a few of this franchise but this was the most modern and memorable time we have experienced. Stopped in for a late lunch after touring the Neptune Festival. The wife and I shared a small mushroom pizza. It was very good with the garlic aioli. I had a couple of drafts of which there were many to choose. We sat at the bar and the bartender was very attentive, friendly and personable. Mellow Mushroom is a complete vibe! From the absolutely beautiful mural outside to the huge "Wonderland Dough Products" globe and the phenomenal artwork and colors, I was in complete amazement with how beautiful this restaurant was. As I walked up the ramp to the entrance, I couldn't help but notice the large outdoor seating as well which will come in handy during the warmer months. We arrived pretty late in the evening and thankfully it wasn't busy at all so we were able to get seated right away. The first thing I noticed was how stunning the restaurant decor was! The vibrant colors and the greenery really made the restaurant stand out among the rest. Even the bathroom was beautiful! Our waiter, Jack, quickly greeted us and gave us some time to look over the menu while he grabbed our drinks. Everything on the menu sounded amazing and I love how they display a section in the menu called "Local To Your Mellow" that are pizzas that are only offered at that location. How cool is that! After looking over the menu for a while, we decided to build our own pizza and chose a Large with Grilled Ribeye Steak, Caramelized Onions, Green Peppers, Mushrooms and Shaved Parmesan. The pizza came out about 20 minutes after we ordered which I thought was pretty fast service. Jack realized that the Shaved Parmesan wasn't added to the pizza so he quickly took it back to have them add it which I had no problem with because that meant he made sure we received exactly what we ordered. After taking the first bite, I knew I would be a repeat customer. The pizza was delicious! Between the fresh toppings, the perfect cheese to sauce ratio, and the buttery soft dough, it was one of the best pizzas I've ever had. Mellow Mushroom has really perfected the art of pizza. Cloud 9 wings are absolutely some of the best that I've had in my life! Amazing flavor and perfectly cooked. 5 stars for the wings alone! We also had a large 1/2 house pizza and 1/2 great white pizza. Great concept for 2 people with different tastes. We ended up eating some from both sides and both were delicious! Over the years I've heard plenty of people (including fellow Yelp Elites) say nothing but good things about the Mellow Mushroom. Personally every time I've thought about trying it, driving 30 minutes away to try a chain restaurant or trying it in a different city when we have one in Hampton Roads has always deterred me; however, I finally stopped playing around and tried it, and now I'm mad it took me so long to try them, cause why were the pizza and wings giving what needed to be gave!? I started with the "Cloud 9" wings and ooh girl the flavor. Chile, why did they put a couple of these local places that serve to shame? For my entrée I did a Half Baked Potato Pizza | Half "Holy Shitake" Pizza w/ Sausage and it was everything. I loved the amount of toppings and the density of the crust. It was just good. Our server was also such a pleasure and very helpful with all my and my friend's questions (I had quite a few since it was my first time. Lol) All in all, I'll definitely be coming back to the Mellow Mushroom a little more often now that I know how good it is. read more

I have visited this Mellow Mushroom twice since this past November and had overall good experiences both times. I LOVE the oceanfront in the off-season - free parking with quick access to the beach, restaurants and shops along the boardwalk. When the sun is shining, I want to be at the beach with either my toes in the sand or a drink in my hand... preferably both. Our recent visits found us with empty bellies craving pizza after hours spent playing on the beach. On each occasion, we were sat and greeted by a server immediately. I have found service, overall, to be exceptional. I have been to several MMs across the country and have found this dining area to be the cleanest of all that I've visited (Williamsburg, Charlottesville, Asheville & a few in the Atlanta Metro area)! The ladies loo was clean as well, but neither sink had a functioning soap dispenser (one was mounted on the wall) and one sink was not working at all. They have a draft/bottle list to love. The food is really good - I LOVE their parmesan-sprinkled crust and they were very accommodating with special requests for light cheese/extra crispy pies. Really, my only complaint is the portion size vs price for salads. They're the size of a side salad for the cost of an entree salad, which is disappointing. I wish they were bigger because they were fresh and tasty. Other than that, I will definitely return, but I won't order a salad! read more

There isn't much good pizza in VB, and although Mellow Mushroom is a chain, it's a pretty good option. The staff is always friendly and happy to help, in my experience. July 4th was insanely busy, but the staff seemed to work just as well as they would any other day. We like the pizza and pretzels here, but the quality of each meal is inconsistent. Sometimes it's very good, sometimes it's made completely differently than before. We're never sure exactly what the pretzels will be like (shaped and salted well, or no salt and overly doughy?) and the pizza tends to change (might be crispy and well-proportioned one night, then overly doughy and saucy the next). We loved the beer cheese last year, but it seems to have changed, and doesn't taste good. This is one of the only restaurants open past 9 or 10PM on the oceanfront. They have outdoor seating, but of course it would be better if they'd built it on the oceanside. I also wish the outdoor seating area was bigger and cleaner. Overall, this is one of the better pizza options near the oceanfront, and a good spot to grab a drink outside. read more

This restaurant is beautifully decorated. Love the mural on the outside. Inside is bright and the night we were here pretty busy. Our waitress Mya did a great job was very attentive and knowledgeable of the menu. Our cocktails were delicious and well balanced. The lemon submarine and peach buzz would get both again. The cloud 9 wings have an amazing sauce for an average tasting wing. The wings taste like a precooked frozen wing wouldn't get again. We had the steak and cheese calzone asked for no mushrooms and it came with mushrooms so by the time it was remade we had to get it to go. The pizza was delish! October 6th, 2022, was my first-ever visit to a Mellow Mushroom. I've longtime heard about MM, but either there wasn't one locally available, or I simply passed up a chance to try them whenever I visited Blacksburg, VA. Honestly, since they're a chain I wasn't in a rush to hit them up. There are simply too many independent spots in CoVa I've yet to try. MM seemed to open first in college towns - college kids eat a lot of pizza (I can personally confirm!). They've gained in popularity for their eclectic takes on pizza, so I get it. This dining experience came about because a fellow Virginia Tech alum was vacationing in Norfolk for the week. He's an active Twitter user and decided on arranging for a VT dinner "tweetup." I believe there were about 15 of us total (at various points during our MM visit) and the week we stopped in happened to be VB MM's first official week in business. It was fairly busy when I arrived - the place is connected to the Oceanfront Sheraton and, even though it's nice, clean and pretty, the venue seemed a little tight. Oh well. Some Hokies arrived early and requested a big table (I was told MM doesn't accept reservations), so I didn't wait long to be seated. Our server was excellent - first week open; big party; lots of questions and requests. She handled all of this fairly well as I didn't notice anyone complaining (well, most of our party was drinking; that may help ease any lingering issues). I ordered the Magic Mushroom soup and split the Mighty Meaty with Matt, who was the person vacationing down here and planned the event. I liked the soup, but it was a little heavy on the cooking wine. The Mighty Meaty is a heavy pizza - I only had one slice. Despite its richness, it's a tasty pie, but next time I'll try something that's less... meaty (I have to prep myself for a pie like that, similar to prepping to eat a steak dinner). Since MM is at the Oceanfront, outside of tourist season it's best to park in the 36th Street garage. There shouldn't be a fee to park there, whereas in the summer you will definitely have to pay. Also, just to double back on the size of MM's venue - the walkways are narrow. Our server, when she'd stand by our table to take any orders, would actually block the entire walkway. So anyone needing to get by would have to wait for her to leave or move out of the walkway completely. That's a problem, especially since I experienced the issue myself when a customer stood at the edge of another table and looked at me as if I robbed her while I waited for her to move (note: she made no attempt to move, not even an inch, as she almost goaded me with her stare to say/try something). People suck nowadays - none of us know how to interact with others anymore (that's another discussion for another day). Thank you to Mellow Mushroom for a pleasant first-time experience. This Mellow Mushroom is located inside the Sheraton Hotel building at the corner of Atlantic Ave. and 35th Street at the Virginia Beach Oceanfront. There is a parking garage for the Sheraton Hotel at the corner at 36th St., so you are able to park there when visiting the restaurant. My visit here was on October 1, 2022. Although Mellow Mushroom is part of the Sheraton Hotel, there is an external entrance ramp where you come in directly to the restaurant. There is a separate entrance for to go orders. For this visit, this was a soft opening before they fully opened for indoor dining on October 3, 2022, with friends and family of the staff. Once we came inside, there was nothing mellow about the Mellow Mushroom. It was a little after 6 pm and the place was already hopping. There is an outdoor seating area to the right as you come into the restaurant, along with some indoor seating at the top after entering the first spot. The host/hostess stand is to the left after just passing that first indoor dining area. We were immediately seated at a table. We were at a table near the bar area, but the bar area looked really good too. After getting settled at the table, we were at an area with other family too, so it worked out really well. Within a few moments, our server Tatianna (Tati) was over at our table and asked for our drink orders. I went with sweet tea and my mom went with tea that was half sweet and half unsweet. The sweet tea was really good, as it wasn't overly sweetened. I wanted to try a few appetizers, so we did get the Bruschetta and Pretzel Bites (full order) with the beer cheese dip. A little bit after, we were ready to order dinner. The irony here is that I have a severe mushroom allergy. They were really good about taking care of that. I ended up getting a medium White Pizza, but adding pepperoni to it. My mom ordered the Build Your Own Calzone with pepperoni. Shortly after ordering dinner, the appetizers started coming out to the table. The first appetizer to come out was the Bruschetta. The Bruschetta was amazing. The bread it was on was very soft, and you can taste the freshness of the ingredients in the bruschetta too. After some time, the pretzel bites appetizer came out. Man, these were also amazing. They were hot and soft. The beer cheese dip to go with it was a great complement to it. The dinner orders came out about 15 minutes or so after the appetizers. That was actually pretty good timing for us. The pizza looked really good when it came out for me, and so was the calzone that my mom ordered. The pizza was great. The bread was soft and it wasn't burnt on the bottom of it either. It was extremely easy to eat. I did take most of it home though for future days after having multiple appetizers beforehand. My mom did the same with her calzone too. We would each get a chocolate chip cookie dessert to bring home to have at a later time (or following day in my case). I wanted to share some overall observations of the service and management here. Everyone was on point. There were other servers out there checking for drink refills, clearing empty plates, and so forth. We also had visits throughout by management checking on how everything was going too. The staff overall are very engaged with the customers and they have great attention to detail. Next, I want to briefly talk about sustainability. The bags given to use to take things home are paper bags. Also, the pizza boxes used are able to be recycled (not all places have boxes that can be recycled). Overall, this was an excellent experience. This place is definitely not mellow and it mushrooms with activity and good vibes. The food and service were excellent. They had a great system going on for the place being as busy as it was. I highly recommend coming in here if you have a craving for great pizza and appetizers. read more

Mellow Mushroom review This Mellow Mushroom location is brand new and currently taking to-go orders only. In early October, they are expecting to have a grand opening where there dining room will be open. I ordered a small Pacific Rim pizza and substituted the jalapenos for sweet onions. I also requested vegan cheese. I have been to other Mellow Mushroom locations in the past but this is my first time eating their vegan cheese and it was soooo good! I savored every bite. Even though I had a small, it was very filling, I did not finish it in one sitting. I would come back here and recommend others to treat themselves to some good pizza. read more

Sorry DC but stop trying to make Ledo's a thing. NY pizza is good. Jersey pizza is better. New Haven pizza is righteous and has earned itself a seat at the table. But is still not Jersey. We LOVED this place. We decided to sit at the bar and got to chat with Andrew the bartender. We felt that he was very attentive and patient. He answered all of our questions and offered great recommendations. Nicole the manager was also present and very kind. The building itself was interesting. We actually walked by it at first because it looked weird from the outside. There's an odd universal studios rotating globe knock off outside which made me feel like the place was "soggy fries and watery beer diner" vibes. But based on the Yelp reviews we decided to come back and give it a shot. And boy I am so glad we did. The inside was so cute and trendy. Everything well decorated and clean. Very impressed. We got a few drinks and half of the loaded potato pizza and the other half was our favorite toppings (pep, black olives). The crust was perfect. The bottom was crispy. Everything tasted fresh. The drinks game in Virginia is definitely not the same as the mixology world of NYC (where I live now) and SF (where I grew up). But I would say it was delicious enough. My favorite was the Mule and the Lemon Submarine. All in all this was our favorite restaurant in all of VB. And we will definitely make it a point to go back if we are ever in the area. read more

The Mellow Mushroom is right across the street from where we are staying at Virginia Beach. We had booked a reservation at a high-end restaurant that someone had recommended and was it ever a disappointment. We ended up leaving and coming to the Mellow Mushroom and that was a great decision. The food was delicious! I haven't had a pizza in so long. My husband and I were able to share a pizza with half what he wanted and half what I wanted. Our server was so nice. I found out this place is a chain but don't hold that against them: the food is good and fairly priced, especially at this location which is in the heart of Virginia Beach. We did sit m-down and takeaway on separate occasions, and they delivered solidly in both cases. Our waitress was super attentive and good on being our kids food first and refilling drinks. We got seated right away too, and given a comfy booth that was great for both our family of four but also for the amount of food we ordered. We are in town for family vacation from Pittsburgh. We used to live in Chattanooga and went to the mellow mushroom there all the time. we've been gone for over 10 years and We were excited to see a mellow mushroom close to where we are staying and this was our first night in town so we went in for it! We got a cheese pizza for the kids which they are picky about and loved! Pretzels and a specialty pizza for the adults. We had it delivered and the service was great. The driver was friendly and we talked for a minute when he dropped it off. We did not get to go inside but we know that they are always very fun.
