Tasty frozen yogurt! I love to bring my little sister here for a cool sweet treat. We love the original tart and most fruity flavors, my sis also loves the vanilla and chocolate. We miss some of the limited edition flavors like Teenage Kraken blue raspberry and Hi Chew Raspberry. I'm not a big fan of the cake, cookie style flavors but literally just my taste buds! I like that the toppings are covered to be sanitary, and the fruit toppings always seem to be fresh and not mixed with the others. It's a cute little space. Pretty small sitting area but a good quick fixing. The workers are always nice. There can be a lot of foot traffic with the local schools. 4-5+ schools within a little walk or basic drive. So after school and weekends it gets pretty busy. Sometimes I like to stroll in the late morning or evening time. When it gets busy there's no seats and can get a bit crowded since the walk ways are a bit slim. It shares parking with the Safeway, bank, and other local businesses, but I have never had an issue with finding a decent spot. The best froyo in West Seattle! read more

We have to stand around hoping they'll actually come out of their private room in the back, and sometimes they'll come out and see us and then go back into the room before we've had a chance to check out. So we just stand there with melting yogurt awaiting them to come back. I don't know what's so important in the back room but it'd be nice if the employees would stay in the main space to greet and serve customers. read more

As we're slowly starting to venture back out into the world, I took my 3 year old for some frozen yogurt after preschool. They have an immense variety of frozen yogurts and several dairy free options, as well. They are all labeled with their allergens (as I also cannot have gluten) and was surprised they had Dole Whip when we went. Yum! They also have a huge toppings bar and everything is covered in their respective containers. I don't do toppings myself due to cross contamination issues since scooping is a free for all, but my daughter enjoyed being able to choose some fun toppings from the candies, cookies and fruits they had available. My sons & I were in W Seattle to visit my mom who is in a nursing home. We stopped by Menchie's to get some fro yo, but were disappointed. The place was somewhat busy and was messy. The young lady who was working was just sitting behind the counter doing nothing. When we went to get our yogurt, the Horchata flavor wasn't coming out so I told the employee and she said, "Yeah, it's probably out." She made no attempt to check if it was out or to refill it. Then, there were no carob chips or n the toppings area. That is the only topping I ever put on frozen yogurt. I asked the employee and she said they were out. So I went to see if there was any fruit I or my mom might like and there was 1 chocolate covered strawberry left! I knew my mom would love that so I put it on the yogurt I was making for her and then I mentioned to the employee there were no more chocolate covered strawberries. Her reply was that they must be out. Seriously? Now, I worked a fro-yo machine when I was young and I know that topping refills of chilled items are prepared ahead of time and stored in a fridge. So, I asked if she could check. She rilled her eyes at me, but did go check. Lo-and-behold, she came out with an entire bin of chocolate covered strawberries! Amazing! The point is: I shouldn't have needed to ask. And I am pretty sure that there was more Horchata in the back too, just waiting to be poured into the machine. I know from my fro-yo working days that backups of the flavors are kept in the back specifically to refill the machines, and flavors are only "chosen" in the morning if there are enough "packages" of it to last through the day. So there likely was more. Most of the fruit bins were empty or almost empty and the employee should have been refilling them all with the pre-prepared fruit in the back fridge. She should have been wiping down the tables and counters too. read more

First time I've ever been to menchies before and loved it. I was getting a treat for my daughter after a difficult dental appointment, and this place was so fun. Today I went in and got a cup of yogurt as I had not been in for a while and was headed to Safeway. I got a little bit of about 3 flavors and then just the regular tart. I paid just o Er $8 for about half of one of their large cups. It was a weird texture kinda of icy and the flavor was not good, the chocolate was so dark and strange tasting and even the tart that I have always loved was not creamy. I did not complain I through Irvin the trash and will never return. I did buy so no hi and popsicles at Safeway for less than $8. read more

Nothing to write home about. It reminds me TCBY in the 80's. Flavors are okay but nothing special. They only offer big cups (to make more money of course). When you have little kids and they each want their own cup of ice cream/fro yo, it seems like a waste and not very fun to eat out of a big cup with a little bit on the bottom. We got 2 cups and shared...didn't go over very well with the kids. Don't be fooled by the "sugar-free" flavors, they use sorbitol and malitol, both chemicals. You're better off eating sugar. The teenager who seemed to be working by herself and also seemed to be a whole 15 years old decided that instead of doing her job it was more important to sit and talk to her friends that were sitting at the counter and in the way of anyone who needed to purchase their items. It'd be more cool if it was called Menschys. In Yiddish a mensch is an all around good guy, someone you'd like to hang out with. This place is very friendly, nice owners, good family vibe. I really like being able to just fill my cup and slap on my own goodies without having anyone do it for me. If I want a lot of Heath Bar crunch I can just go for it. With a crazed looks in their eyes at 8:40 AM pulling into the Safeway parking lot, the tykes scream "lets go to Menchies for breakfast!!!!" "WTF is Menchies?" I think, "a new Jewish deli in West SEA? Has a Yiddish ring to it, after all." But no, its not bagels, lox or blintzes, but Fro-yo. Make sense, more Californians in Seattle than east coasters. 10 hours later we return to Menchie's. Now I'm not a Fro-yo kind of guy, despite being a Cali native. But from my sneaky picking at the kid's deserts, the stuff seems pretty good. Simple process to select your Fro-You: pick up your Fro-You pail to fill up yourself at one of the dispensing stations. Each station has two flavors that can pumped singularly, or in combination by the machine. There are about 4 or 5 stations. Pretty standard flavor selections. One child got the "cake batter" flavor which made me think the guy who came up with that must of known recreational marijuana had been legalized in Washington. Who else but a Stoner would want large quantities of cake batter? This will never be a ROTD I'm guessing. Back to the process. So after filling up your yogurt bucket, you can adorn it with all kinds of toppings like carob chips (don't trust anybody who likes carob) and the more reasonable choices like chocolate sprinkles, Captain Crunch and Maraschino Cherries. Then you take your custom sundae to one of the teenyboppers behind the counter for a weigh-in. I was shocked that two massive containers of Fro-You & condiments were only $5.24. Even though this is the same company and business model as the Queen Anne location, this franchise seems to be run much better, with a definite feel for the "West Seattle" neighborhood. The staff here are very friendly and not overbearing. They're great about keeping the serving stations clean, which I'm sure isn't easy with a self-serve frozen yogurt and topping bar. The best thing about this location is their Party Room, which to date I've only seen used for additional seating. It's a small room off to the side of the main room which is designed for use for private events. When not in use for those events however, it's a great area to sit and enjoy your yogurt with your family. Menchies does a great job of catering to all who crave a treat- the health nuts who can have fat-free, sugar-free sorbet with fresh fruit toppings, and those who have a sweet tooth- with many types of sweet yogurt and about a million candy bar toppings. They also usually have stickers and coloring sheets for the little ones, which is a nice treat for the kiddos. My only complaints, and these rings true for all the locations, are the lack of water for drinking (unless you buy a bottle of water) and the excess amount of waste that is produced. No compostable or even recyclable materials are used, which is a shame. read more

But the last time we have tried to pop in for a late night treat after a football game they were closed! On Apple Maps and the Menchies website it says they close at 10, this is false information. They are closing much earlier then it says which is disappointing. We have much love for the shop but we just wish they would update their website. Yes, it's a chain. I normally avoid chains, but what this particular stores does, it does very well indeed. THE ROSES: First, let's start with the concept. YOU choose your portion size. This becomes a big deal when you consider the burgeoning obesity epidemic in our society (which will become a MAJOR public policy issue as more GenX/Y/Millennials go into their dotage burdening Medicare for their bills for diabetes/joint replacements/etc.). A big part of the problem is that (1) portion sizes are just too damn big (Big Gulp, anyone?), and are priced to encouraged overeating ('supersize your order for just a dollar more!). Menchies approach is very simple: take as much or as little of their frozen yogurt and toppings as you want, and pay a straight 49 cents/oz. for it. No volume discount, so you don't feel like you have to eat more to get your 'money's worth'. My 5oz of vanilla/chocolate swirl yogurt & toppings set me back $2.50 and did no damage to my waistline! The yogurt itself is, well, frozen yogurt. Nothing special here. Nice selection of flavors, and they're in paired dispensers that allow you to mix in a 'swirl' the paired flavors if you wish. Nice selection of toppings. Dining area is squeaky-clean and the young staffer was very pleasant. THE THORNS: No option for recycling the (very well made and re-usable) plastic spoons. I hate the idea of those things going into the landfill. The only cup size appears to be a pint, which while intended to encourage patrons to buy more, may also once again promote overeating. 8oz cups would be a nice option. THE VERDICT: Tasty alternative to the nearby Baskin-Robbins serves up tasty treats and is a reasonably good corporate citizen (they'd be better if they'd recycle those spoons!). Oh, I really should have taken photos of the froyo before I gobbled it down! I've been here around 4+ times now - and every time keeps me craving more! There isn't a huge selection of flavors. Just a bit over ten flavors or so. My favorite flavor is actually the tart one. It's nice and tangy - like that yogurt / kefir taste. And I love adding in the mochi, rainbow sprinkles, and the occasional cheesecake bites or cookie dough. The cookie dough was the only topping I didn't love. It was a bit crusty to me, but that's okay. I'll just try the other things next time :) What makes this place five stars is really the service! Everytime I come in here, the young ladies who work here always greet me with a smile. I really appreciate that! Thank you ladies for keeping it a positive place to keep getting my froyo fix. I generally spend anywhere from $4-$7 dollars for one person. The four dollar range is for 2-3 smaller helpings of froyo and 2-3 small scoops of toppings. read more

I finally learned what the smileage card is - not sure why they call it that, since there were no smiles here today. The smileage card will never make me smile. I was told that you get a "smile" for every dollar spent. If you get 50 smiles, you get $5 off, or a free yogurt. If I realized I had spent $50 on frozen yogurt, I would cry, not smile. The employees aren't smiling either - one girl looked at me with such contempt that I just wanted to put her out of her misery. I guess if I was constantly cleaning up after slobs, I would not be smiling either. The product was worse than last time. Within a couple minutes of being out of the machine and in my bowl, it was a half-melted mess. I thought choosing mint would be a refreshing idea, instead it tasted like a combination between a mcnasty shamrock shake and chalky, heartburn medication. This location is fine. The person working the shop was friendly and rang up my purchase quickly. They have a large selection of toppings (more than I've seen at other Menchie's locations) and it wasn't too busy when we were there, which was nice. There were a couple of cons. One of the yogurts machines was empty and I wasn't really excited by the range of flavors they had. I had my go-to Takes the Cake Batter because none of the other flavors were really too good. They are also kind of stingy with the sample cups and only put a few out when people seem to be coming in. The three of us used the few she put out fairly quickly and she had to put more - not sure why she doesn't just fill the tray with cups? Overall, this was a fine Menchie's, but I have been to other locations that are a bit better. read more

They have an impressive selection of flavors, and toppings, the latter of which include the usual suspects like sprinkles, chocolate chips, Oreo crumbles, etc., but they also have fresh options too! One word of caution though: it's super easy to help yourself to a generous portion of fro-yo and toppings galore, BUT, the price is weight based, which I learned the hard way, building myself a $12 treat! I love Menchie's but the West Seattle location has an issue with quality control of the product. The texture of the frozen yogurt is frequently bad. Specifically, it is like ice milk, or something. Like there's too much frozen water in it(?). I'm not sure how to describe it, but it is *very* different than the product I eat at other locations and not at all palatable. Not as smooth and creamy, just harsh and nasty. I presume the under-10 clientele that pays the bills at this location doesn't care, but my adult palate is offended so I just don't go here anymore. read more

These guys have a great selection of flavors, they always have at least one or two sugar-free flavors, a great toppings bar, (including sugar-free hot fudge) and pleasant staff. +1 for the cheesecake bites, captain crunch, and peanut butter topping as well! Cons: I don't think I can ever get out of here without spending at least $10 on two modest cups of Froyo and you may want to avoid coming in on Friday or Saturday nights, as it grotesquely resembles Circus Circus with kids and tweens crawling everywhere. One brilliant thing about this place though, they'll let you get little tasters of the different flavors until you find one that you like. After going to this location for awhile, these are consistent; and when I say for "awhile", that's once a week, for the last 4 years - my daughter loves this place. The music is RIDICULOUSLY loud - when I asked who I believe to be the owner, to please turn it down so I could hear my daughter across the table from me, he told me I should sit in an area with no speaker. REALLY??? How about you just turn the damn music down so a person can hear themselves think; add in a few screaming kids and it will give you a headache. We try and eat outside if we can. Quality control on the product is lacking - I've often received froyo that is not mixed properly, and seems like it has too much water in the mixture; I've stopped asking them about it, and just choose something else as apparently only the "owner" can deal with that issue. The yogurt selection is solid with seasonal flavors rotation every few months. They also have the usual flavors: chocolate, vanilla, tart, etc. The cashiers are also really sweet which is always nice! As for toppings, stay away from brownie bites if you want to keep your teeth. Those things might as well be pebbles. The sour gummy worms aren't really sour, so be prepared for sugar covered gummy worms on your already super sugary frozen yogurt. read more
