I was pleasantly surprised by the selection of cakes and specialties, as well as pastries that were available. I chose a bear claw and decided to eat that while I was there, since there was no way to eat that in the car with the powdered sugar, etc., making a mess. They put it on a plate and brought it to me. I also chose a Napoleon and a slice of carrot cake and a peanut butter cookie to take to go. I asked if they had a pick that said happy birthday and she went in the back and found one for me so it was one stop shopping for what I needed. What I was so surprised with was they have crêpes and sandwiches and many items I was unaware of. I definitely will have to come back and try some more and maybe come back for lunch or brunch. The lady was super helpful and friendly. There's nice seating inside if you want to eat your goodies here as well. Located in the shopping center across from Raleys on Fairoaks Boulevard in the same building as the UPS store so if you're taking some Amazon returns back walk down a few doors and check them out! .

Then I saw they were offering cookie decorating classes at THE KITCHEN STORE in Sacramento and rushed to sing my daughter and myself up. It was quite intimidating for me as I do not always color with-in the lines, but they made it so easy to follow along step by step, and after 2 hours I had created 5 perfectly decorated cookies and have a new skill that will last me a lifetime. We loved this class!

I've ordered custom cookies for a birthday, and they turned out better than expected. I was able to give them some ideas and let them get creative with the theme. I've also taken multiple cookie decorating classes, and they make them so fun and approachable. We definitely did a better job than we expected, and since they make the cookies and icing for you they're always delicious. I love the different themes they come up with throughout the year. Some classes can fill up quickly, so check out their social and website for the latest offerings. Sugar Sweetery also pops up at a lot of events, and through these pop ups I've tried cookies, macarons, oatmeal cream pies, cupcakes, cake pops, caramel apples, and more. All the treats they put out are delicious, and I love that they use seasonal ingredients and take inspiration from the kind of pop up they're at. I highly recommend following them on social media for their pop up schedule, class schedule, and latest treat offerings. They've become my go-to spot for decorated sugar cookies.

The level of detail was unbelievable, and the sugar flowers were so realistic that guests genuinely thought they were fresh florals. Beyond how stunning it looked, the cake tasted just as incredible. It's rare to find a cake that's both visually flawless and genuinely delicious, but Kellie absolutely delivered on both. Our guests are still talking about how beautiful and yummy it was. Kellie was wonderful to work with throughout the entire process creative, responsive, and clearly passionate about her craft. I beelined it over there to check them out. Why? Because I do luv a good bakery. As I walked into the shop, there was a gentleman at the counter. He turned out to be the owner, Carlos. Him and his wife own the shop which they opened about a year ago. She's the baker. Their speciality is custom order cakes. Gorgeous, sophistically designed cakes. But they are not a one trick pony. No sirree. They also sold cupcakes, trifles, cream puffs, and tarts. They were all sitting pretty looking divinely delicious in a refrigerated counter. I bought two cupcakes. One was a honey roasted peanut butter on chocolate cupcake and the other I forgot the name of. But it was a chocolate cupcake of some sort with a vanilla type of cream frosting. Those were $4.50 a piece. Carlos told me the cupcakes are cold but best eaten about 40 minutes to a hour at room temp. Sorry to say I had no will power to wait that long. They both got devoured shortly after I got back to my car. Even without the wait, it was delicious. Moist, flavorful cake. The frosting was delicious and piped on perfectly. Sure the frosting was a bit stiff when I ate it because I had no patience to let it settle to room temp, but it didn't take away from the taste. Homemade perfection.

Good barbecue is tough to find around here. And great barbecue? I've only had it once in Northern…read moreCalifornia. Until today. Pitmaster/Chef Michael has an amazing backstory. I actually stumbled across the Dirty Pit BBQ page on the Nextdoor app, where he had posted a video about an unhoused community member who needed a bike. Michael was reaching out to the community and using his platform to see if anyone had an old bike they were getting rid of, or even one to sell and he would buy it and then gift it to the man. Today, Michael told me that he saw the person just the other day, and someone came through with the bike. As I stood talking with him, enjoying my meal (more on that in a second), there was not one but two other people who were standing nearby. Michael offered both of them some food and a smile, saying he knows how hard it is out here. I don't know that I've seen that level of generosity ever at a food stand, and I'm here for it. The question, then, is Does the food measure up? And that's an easy one to answer. I was the third party in line at about 12:15 this afternoon, shortly after opening, so I was able to get a good look at what I was already smelling. No one got to the front before being offered a sample - a bite of tri-tip or a burnt end or an oxtail - which was a great way to try almost everything in one visit. Amazingly, there were zero misses, and everything on the menu was as delicious as Chef Michael described. I chose tri-tip, ribs, and burnt ends for my plate, with mac n cheese and beans as my sides (though I was also offered a sample of collard greens, as well), and I can tell you this: the biggest problem you're going to have is narrowing down your choices. The tri-tip is tender and flavorful, and the temperature was a very nice medium rare. The oxtails had a fantastic homemade blend of seasoning. I don't often order oxtails, but these had such a comfort-food quality that I immediately realized I've been missing out. The pork ribs were large, meaty, and perfectly seasoned. The burnt ends had an incredible glaze. I brought a bite of mac n cheese over to take a dip in the burnt end sauce and almost fell over, it was so good. The mac n cheese was exactly what you want it to be - a nice crust on top, and cheesy, gooey goodness all throughout. As for the beans and the collard greens: I can't remember ever having better beans or greens anywhere, ever, and that's after living in the South for over a decade. The greens were incredible - so often they're too salty or bitter, but I could eat a whole plate of these. And the beans were the most savory, hearty bbq beans you've ever seen. I've literally never been excited about bbq beans, because so often people either heat them up straight from a can, or cook them in a way that makes them taste like they're canned anyway. These beans were insane, and that in an of itself is kind of an insane thing to say about beans. All of that to say, this is competition-winning-level stuff here. And let's put this in context - at this point, Chef Michael has his meats and sides all kept in catering trays lined with foil, which would make it tricky for an all-day setup. But he's been selling out before anything gets too dry. I've been fortunate to be at the front of the proverbial line of a few of the best (Texas Monthly Top 50 - actual best!) bbq places in Texas before they blew up (Corkscrew in Spring when it was a trailer and a tent, Tejas in Tomball when it was a chocolate shop), as well as most of the famous spots, and I am completely confident in saying that if Chef Michael keeps up this level of smoking and cooking, we're looking at what could become the gold standard for NorCal bbq.
