Gave it another try and it was awful! It wasn't crowded and our server was terrible. He got my order wrong, never refilled our drinks the whole time we were there, let us sit there without chips with a full bowl of queso even thought he passed our table and looked at the chips several times. We had to ask him three times to bring us different items like Sasha, water and such and he never brought it to us. Went Sunday after the lunch crowd had dispersed. Service was outstanding! I ordered the Valencia, (VALENCIA'S One chicken burrito, one beef taco, rice, beans, and side of queso.) The burrito was full of moist tasty chicken, and the taco was very good. I didn't eat the rice or beans because I was yumming up the Queso with the chips the waiter had just refreshed. My son ordered the Brisket tacos, (BRISKET TACOS Slow cooked brisket, poblano slices, jack cheese,and onions in three corn tortillas. Served with rice, avocado slices, and bean soup.) A new Mesa's opened up within last few weeks. Same owners as the restaurant in Prosper. Best Mexican food in area (I'm a big non-chain food person). We always order the table side guacamole, grilled jalapeño fajitas (very similar to MiCocina sunset style fajitas), and any of the quesadilla options for the kids. Sangria is good too. Very kid friendly. Restaurant is relatively new, so they're still working some things out. But people working there are fantastic and good is good, so wait time is easily dismissed by us. We're just so happy we've got a decent restaurant near us as we normally have to go to 75 or the Tollway for decent food. Looking forward to many trips here! read more

We've tried this place several times now and really wanted to like it since we live nearby and we love Mexican food, and we would LOVE to have a Mexican place that could serve as our "default neighborhood hangout," but this place just doesn't do it for us. Ambiance feels a bit too sterile, bright, "rectangular," and loud - especially with all the families who bring their kids here (and we've got kids, too - we just appreciate a place that's not so loud and "cafeteria-feeling" when we want to eat out). Drinks were mediocre at best - margarita is definitely made from a way-too-sweet pre-made mix, and is not worth the price. Service has usually been pleasant but is typically very slow, and quality of the food we've received is not up to our expectations at all (most everything we've ordered has come smothered in cheap cheese and underwhelming sauces, an un-distinctive blob characteristic of stereotypical "bad Tex-Mex"). Not enjoyable for people who hope for more from their dinner. If you've got a bunch of young kids and you want to take them for generic Tex-Mex in a place that won't mind if you mess things up a bit, then perhaps Mesa's Mexican Grill would be a good choice for you. But if you want anything other than this, you'd most likely be happier going elsewhere. read more

We visited my brother in Mckinney ...we're from NM! Went and ate here...the food was amazing & service was stellar! We were treated very well. Loved their bean dip, queso (white & yellow) & salsa!! I ordered the shrimp enchiladas which were very tasty! It was a group of 10...orders were fajitas, street tacos, huevos ala mexicana, beef enchilada plate, rellenos, taco plate & chimichanga plate. I really don't have anything negative to post about our experience tonight. Excellent service, great food, fun atmosphere and overall great time for our son's 1st bday. They even surprised us with free chocolate sopaipillas for dessert. This is our 3rd visit and each time we've enjoyed the experience. I was really disappointed after the high reviews posted. The highly anticipated order I placed was wrong and my daughters order was a very different kind of chimichanga that was not even deep fried. Between the 2 orders plus delivery/service fees, this was a very disappointing experience for what we paid out. Even the kids meal nachos only had 2 chips with beans on them. Wow! Mesa has become our "go to" Mexican restaurant in MCKinney, replacing some really good ones. I have made three visits in three months and they always seem to find me a seat almost immediately, there is a lovely patio, and the black bean dip is outstanding. We have eaten here a few times and have always found it average. Today was no exception to the average experience. I went in to get food to go, took about 4 employees walking by me as I waited awkwardly at the bar to be greeted. Once my order was taken, I stood there waiting like I was in a stranger's home. Even after I asked how much the happy hour drinks were, no offer was even made for me to order one, much less a water. I got home with my food, was average as usual and guess what...no napkin or fork...NICE. Thursday is taco day for my kids so we decided to give this place a shot just for the kids. So they had a kids taco and a kids quesadilla. W thought the process would be fast. We were wrong. The service there is horribly slow and from we can tell from the food, it's just OK. If I could give it 2.5 stars I would. When we tried to initially to order the kids food, the waiter said he wasn't ready to take our order and only wanted to get our drinks. 15 minutes later he took our order. 30 minutes later the food arrived. The entire process for us to order 2 kids plates and finally get our tab settled took 1.5 hours. Totally unacceptable. Kids food was ok, but the beans were cold and the fries were lame. Mesa's is our go-to Mexican restaurant in McKinney. We've been here many times since it opened. Most of the time, the services is very good and quick, however we have had a couple of times where the waiter seems to disappear for a long period of time. Once seated, they'll bring you over chips, salsa and a black bean dip. This salsa is well blended, exactly how I like it. My staples on the menu are the Rio Grande platter (burritos), the beef fajitas and the beef fajita nachos. The food comes out quick, which is great if you're at lunch or in a hurry, but if you're there to have a relaxing dinner you may want to sip on a margarita before ordering. My only real complaint is that during busy times, the parking lot will fill up and there's NO overflow parking except on the grass behind the restaurant. read more

This was our first time to Mesa's. The food was better than average and the prices were what you would expect to pay. Our server was prompt and took really good care of us. The reason for 3 stars is because of the noise. It is a small place that they seemed to have crammed a sports bar into. We had to shout to each other across the table. Me and my boyfriend we're driving around and trying to find a place with good Mexican food. We went to Rosa's first and we didn't like that all of the employees were not wearing masks in a time like this, so we left. I called Mesas to make sure everyone had to wear a mask, he says, we will bend the rule a little.(Thats was not okay) Upon arrival all workers were wearing a mask but there were several families that did not even have a mask on their table. Hoping everything was sanitized after the last customer, we went ahead and got seated and proceeded to look at the online menu. We decided to get alcoholic beverages (me and my boyfriend are both of age)the manager comes to the table and asked for our IDs and took them to go get scanned and check to see if we were of age. He comes back to the table and says my boyfriend could drink but I could not. So my boyfriend says "Why? She's 21", he proceeds to say "Because she is not 21 she is 20 & I don't need you getting defensive about it because I have the right to refuse alcohol to anyone if I feel they are not of age" In my opinion, my boyfriend wasn't being defensive; he was just stating facts. The man continued to go off on my boyfriend as he walks away and checks my ID again. He comes back and says I'm okay to drink. We order our drinks. We had three different people come to take our drink order although it was already taken and same with our food order. Communication was off but I won't complain about the extra concern. The food came out very fast and we didn't wanna be there longer than we had to so we took a couple of bites and got our food togo. The manager did not apologize he just kept saying he wanted us to have a "lovely dinner" but that was already ruined. The food was subpar. I give them two stars for quick service. read more

I've eaten here twice, and maybe I'm not ordering what they specialize in, but I thought it was just ok. Both times I've had enchiladas. The corn tortillas are a bit tough, maybe from being cooked in large batches. The cheese in the enchiladas set up so quickly it was like a brick. The beans had a smoky burnt flavor. The warm bean dip served as an appetizer is really good, definitely not the same burnt flavor as the side dish. And When I had to go back in to let them know that my order was not right, They argued with me and said what I ordered was not on the menu. Um, if it wasn't, why not tell me when I ordered rather than I find out after I had the food in my car. Especially since I have ordered the same thing when we ate in the restaurant. And then to argue with me and tell me I am going to have to wait because the kitchen was too busy to get me just plain leafs of lettuce and he was going to have to do it himself. Now I am an inconvenience. I just left. Unbelievable! Well you've lost a customer over leafs of lettuce. Will take my business elsewhere, where customers are appreciated. You take my cash back and re charge me to add cheese. Who gave you the right to take my money and extra charge me without my permission??? If you've ever seen the office, imagine I'm making the noise michael makes when he sees Toby. This place is Mediocre and the service SUCKS! The waiter actually told my boyfriend that he looks half Chinese??? What?? Who says that? Anyway it's just weird that a waiter that we just met would make a racist comment like that??!!! So strange .
