I've lived within a mile of this place for almost 8 years and always considered ordering but never tried it. I have never had sushi delivered to my home in the neighborhood and have a few favorite sushi places I like to dine in. Typically, pickup sushi orders are just brought home after a quick shop at Whole Foods. I've noted they've always had a great yelp review history, a consistent 4 stars is easily within my threshold. I just couldn't wrap my head around why sushi would need to be Kosher other than to cater to market's dietary needs. I figured that it couldn't be as good as many of the other neighborhood, japanese-owned joints. (I have seen since an episode of The League which addresses cultural heritage and sushi in an interesting way). I figured the 4 stars must have just been representative as the best of all the kosher sushi places. I was thinking this place must be all about crispy gefilte and pickled whitefish hand rolls. I couldn't have been more wrong. After a long day of running our 2 year olds birthday party at a local park, we were too spent to consider cooking, and we wanted something on the healthier side. I online ordered delivery tonight (Sunday) at 8pm and was emailed and called 15 minute later to tell me i'd missed the delivery deadline (which i'd already added a delivery tip for). Because I was exhausted, I was a little ticked off that I had to make the run out to pick it up after getting a delivery confirmation, but I'm glad I made it out. When I got to the place they had already closed early on a slow Sunday, and were finishing preparing our meal. I had some time to spend checking out the interior as I had passed it many times from the outside, but never stepped in. When i went in, I was greeted by an apologetic staff who assured me my food was already ready. What I saw that really connected the dots for me were two picture montages, I had assumed of the owners and their family. It showed some level of generations of this family on a number of fishing trips, bringing up some huge fish. Kids and adults at various stages, always in boats, on the water, with massive fish and huge smiles. I knew that this family had fishing in their blood, and it helped me understand that these people were closer to the fish than any other purveyor of fish I had known. This family, was out connecting their passion to their work, and I really admired that. I can't say that I've ever known any other sushi chef or sushi restaurant to have a staff passionate for fishing. I think that's very unique and I'd like to believe it's true. In my younger days I helped open a restaurant in manhattan by the man who was the owner of one of the largest fishing operations in the tri-state area, a multi-million enterprise. He also prided himself on having the best fish of any fishery on the coast Miami, Baltimore, Boston, PEI. He supplied most michelin star restaurants in the city with their seafood. He went out on the boats all the time when he wasn't at the restaurant, and he went to the fish market every morning at 4am to check out the last catches of the day. He had a lot of great tricks for picking great seafood and he had a very intimate relationship with all things seafood. Perhaps many sushi chefs go out and catch their own fish, that's something I'd like to learn more about. I'm not saying that this was michelin star fish, but I'm saying that they over-delivered on the promise. We ordered a number of things, some basics, some of their more creative options and loved everything. Can't beat the price for quality especially for the delivery. Without knowing where we ordered from, my wife told me it was some of her favorite she'd had in a while and big step up from whole foods. I felt just fine about leaving the delivery tip on my card. I feel small for never giving this place a shot, but I am thankful today for missing the delivery deadline and having a chance to walk in and see the pictures of this family and their love for the fish. There's absolutely no reason not to try this place. Looking forward to ordering a little earlier next time. read more

The food is good! I recommend this place for take-out. I had the poke bowl salmon and spicy salmon. I am not a fan of the spicy salmon, however everything else was delicious. I love salmon and brown rice poke bowls. Service is good. read more

Then, when we called after 2 hours and no update, they were extremely rude and declared that even though they sent it to the wrong address and dropped it off to no one in particular, it was the address to which Google sent them. I thought it was horrible. I ordered online and then they called me that they do not have 30% of the items I ordered available. I told them specific that I'm in a rush and I would appreciate the food coming on time. It came 1 hour 30 min later!!!! And the final thing is the food was just horrible. Consistent. Organized. Hassle Free. AND most of all, delicious! I order about once a week on average and I've never had a complaint. They rarely mess up an order. and the five stars rewards program is nice too. I would recommend the California Dreaming roll, Crunchy Munchy roll and the Japanese Pizza. Take too long and their menu is a bit confusing and deceiving in my point of view. As a vegan I was sold when I read "dairy free" and that they had veggie friendly options advertised on their page but in reality all they have that's vegan is a veggie roll and an impossible burger that's way too overpriced. I believe I was told the burger itself was $15 plus tax!! And also, the person at the register was very friendly but it was clear she had no idea what vegan options the menu had and was unsure about the ingredients that went into several of the menu items I inquired about. Made me feel like not even the own people who worked there knew what their own food was made of. I would not come back unless they changed their menu in a way that clearly shows all of their vegan options in a clear organized way on their menu. Also the interior decor is very bland and boring. You'd think that a restaurant at such a prime location in LA would have a hip looking interior but not here. Overall a very lackluster experience. read more

Meshuga for sushi is a clean restaurant. family friendly and the sushi is tasty and fresh. My favorite is the japanese sushi pizza, I love their fried rice! they also have some chopsticks helpers for the kids which are a bonus--never seen this in any restaurant before. customer service is great too. Only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because the tables are too small and they put more rice on their rolls than I like. read more

I grew up hating the smell and taste of sushi but Meshuga4Sushi changed my mind. Im addicted to their sushi, especially their onion funion. Its a bit expensive, but affordable and worth the price. Their service is not very welcoming, but they try their best. If you are not Jewish, you might feel a bit uncomfortable being surrounded by hassidic jews. They sent me the wrong roll. There were no cups to put my soy sauce into. The kani salad was made in the most janky way possible and was filled with cheap salad greens as filler (only 20% of it was actually kani and cucumber). It was without a doubt the worst kani salad I had. And it was without a doubt the worst sushi I have ever had. My stomach turned for hours after eating and I was seriously worried I might have food poisoning, but perhaps it was all psychological because I believed the food to be that bad. I'm not Kosher but this place was OK. Friendly family run sushi place but there are some things I think they should change. When you order tea, they serve it in a TO GO cup and it's a tea bag. The fish is very fresh but they don't offer certain things because they are Kosher. They should consider getting a Japanese chef. The ambiance is new, clean but sort of cheap. This is not a date place but maybe better for take out lunch. The sushi counter should be for customers to sit and order from, like a traditional Japanese sushi bar. They should have a server come to you with a menu, ask what drinks you want and take order. Since they have a huge tacky cooler there and a counter it sort of makes you think you need to order cafeteria style. The owners mother should pipe it down. She screams with the owner across the restaurant and leans over on your table as if you want to talk to her. I know it sounds like I'm blasting this place and don't get me wrong, it's fresh fish, but their style isn't my preferred LA sushi joint. read more

I ordered a party tray for a gathering of non kosher observant friends. I was worried that they'd say kosher sushi wasn't as good as non kosher. Well Yankee made an awesome delicious tray with house rolls and everyone LOVED it!!! I even got compliments via email the next day for the awesome sushi! I have been to this (original) location as well as their Pico location. (Pico location is the "late night" location of the two.) Consistently good sushi. The owner continues to develop new, creative sushi dishes so it's never boring. One example of this inventiveness: sushi made from brown rice (rather than with white rice). The only thing I would suggest they add to their offerings is freshly-brewed Japanese green tea with toasted rice (Genmaicha). Not currently available at the restaurant. read more

Prices are reasonable. Food is good, not great. Menu options are fun and little different than normal sushi spot (i.e. truffle fries, sushi nachos, and crab eggs rolls). We have been going here since they 1st opened and just love their sushi. Its rly fresh and there are many different options to choose from. My kids love the panko salmon sticks, and my fav rolls are cali dreamin and thunder. Definitely recommend this sushi spot! read more

I ordered from this place thru eat24 couple of times, and they are always very late. It takes about 90 minutes min to deliver. I gave them enough chances, tried weekdays, different days etc , always the same. don't know if it is because of eat24 or meshuga, but won't be ordering again. read more

This place is great! It's not just good for Kosher Sushi but it's good by any standard. The place is totally low key, the owners are super friendly, and they do a good job. The prices are very reasonable. I hope they continue to be consistent and customer friendly- in which case I'll be coming here often. read more
