i purposefully went to meshuga specifically for their hanukkah special - spicy salmon on latkes. i came in and tried to ask if they had it but the guy inside had headphones on and ignored me. my bf and i searched through the menu and found it. we waited for 10 minutes and then the guy said they didnt have latkes and to go somewhere else. i said i already ordered it. he said i can dispute it with my credit card company bc his boss wasnt there to refund me. i said "cant i just get something else of a similar price?" he sorta shrugged and suggested a sushi burrito. i said sure and he sorta threw suggestions for toppings at me but didnt let us pick sauces. the burrito was large and really good. i enjoyed it as a basic sushi burrito w fresh salmon. but i cant give a fully good review because that man was so strange to deal with they didnt have the special (even tho i asked them on tiktok if they did...) happy hanukkah! read more

Pretty sure they win cutest name ever for a Kosher Sushi spot~! I have driven by a million times and chuckled at the name (meshuga means crazy), so glad I finally got to try them out. Though I'm not kosher, I am allergic to shellfish so for me the fact that they have their own version of 'shrimp' is so welcome. Not only are they shellfish & meat free, but also dairy and nut free so they can appeal to a ton of special tastes. One thing I have had the hardest thing finding since moving to LA has been sweet potato rolls. I was obsessed back in the Chi and I hardly ever see it on menus here. Enter: Meshuga 4 Sushi where they have MULTIPLE sweet potato rolls. YAY! I enjoyed the couple I've tried including the Extreme topped with sauces. The Crispy Corn Roll, Sweet Hart Roll and Crunchy Munchy (baked salmon) were all fire. Not only were all the makis tasty here but I found the prices quite reasonable which was a welcome reprieve in this city. I can't speak for the Pico location, since I've never been there. I also cannot speak about sushi rolls per se, since I don't order or enjoy raw fish or sushi. I do, however, partake of their many specialties,, such as poke bowls, white rice bowls, orange salmon, etc. Assumably, both locations have the same stuff, but I find that attention to detail and to customer requests is sorely lacking at the La Brea store. For example, if you tell them you want certain sauces, or you want to leave out an ingredient (like green onions in the orange salmon), it almost never happens -- even when written in the instructions on the receipt. I also find that the people who prepare the food are not very good at it -- rice is clumpy, "crisp" batter is wimpy, cooked fish is often dried out, veggies are prepared poorly, etc. However, the food is impeccably fresh, the service is reasonably timely, and the attitude is cheerful and friendly. There is no "ambiance" to speak of, since it is almost exclusively takeout, with a couple of outdoor tables as an afterthought which are rarely used. read more

I can't believe how many bad ratings this place has!! Granted, I usually order through Postmates so can't speak to the service, other than the fact that they literally pack the bag with so many generous goodies. But I order up to 3 times a week (and have been for the better part of a year). The high level: this place is a gluten-free person's dream. The imitation crab used is safe (if that's your jam), but even BETTER is that they're so accommodating with substitutions and modifications that I can find a way to order 80% of the rolls on the menu (unthinkable at other spots). The quality of the fish isn't Nozawa, but it's not pretending to be!!! This shit is cheap as hell bro!!! And fucking delicious for as cheap as it is. My go-tos are the California Dreamin', Spicy 2 Spicy, rainbow roll, tsunami roll, yellowtail special, and good ole California roll (since I don't get to enjoy it often otherwise). The Japanese pizza is also yummy, but depending on how long my driver takes isn't in the best shape by the time it hits my mouth. All with no sauces, or anything else that could make me sick. Fish is very fishy tasting, nigiri is browning, suomono salad is disgusting and slimy, miso soup tastes like socks. I hate to say that my barometer for whether a kosher restaurant is good is whether I think it is as good or better than the non-kosher version of the same restaurant- but, that's the review you're reading right now. All that to say, I think Meshuga stands on its own as a pretty good sushi joint. Very comparable in price and quality to other sushi places in the neighborhood (and in some cases better). My favorite thing to do is to order a couple of their sushi platters for family gatherings and parties, which are always a crowd pleaser, and man do they GO. If I could give them 0 stars I would. Worst sushi I've had, hands down. The fish smells very fishy, the nigiri was warm (as in, the tuna and the salmon itself was warm - the rice was stiff). The lingering aftertaste is nothing I can describe, but it stayed and was not pleasant. I ended up getting sick from the food. Threw out the rest. When I called the restaurant to let them know, the receptionist said "maybe the postmates driver's car was hot." -- in case you haven't noticed, it's been pretty breezy and cold here in LA the last week. Great food, very fresh. I personally like the sashimi salad the most and it's always fantastic. But I like all of their rolls. Sometimes they forget to include forks or go light on wasabi, but it's the best sushi in la and better than I've had in New York. Little pricey but all the restaurants are going up in pricing. After having a great time at their Pico-Robertson location, I decided to try out their place on La Brea(about midway between Beverly and Melrose). The place is very clean and well lit with an excellent Staff. On the recommendation of the Manager, I had the Japanese Pizza(crispy rice, spicy tuna, avocado, nacho jalapeno) Meshuga Roll(spicy tuna, fresh jalapeno and ponzu sauce) and Yellowtail Special Roll(spicy yellowtail, avocado, cucumber, cilantro and ponzu sauce). I was extremely pleased with the selections and devoured all 3. Frankly, it was the best Kosher sushi I've ever had including in Israel. It was all superfresh, beautifully presented and super tasty. For dessert, I had their Oreo Insanity(vanilla ice cream surrounded by fried oreos drizzled with chocolate). I found this very creative as well as another very delicious offering. Service was fast and friendly and the A/C was great on a hot day. Conclusion: Hands down best Kosher sushi restaurant I have ever been. Well done Meshuga Sushi. read more

I ordered the "Japanese Pizza." Don't let the word "pizza" fool you, because it doesn't resemble a pizza in ANY way at all. See pic. With tax it was $9.76. It's basically a roll...deep fried rice with some toppings. It was pretty good, but not worth the price and not very filling at all. Very disappointing. Not at all what I was expecting. My friend had the Red Dragon roll. $10.95 plus tax. It looked really good, and was much bigger than my "pizza." Don't expect a warm welcome when you go there. They aren't rude, but they don't act like they're glad you're there either. They do have a Yelp deal though. You get a free can of soda when you check in on Yelp there. Free is always good! There's only street parking by the way, so if you go when there's no parking on La Brea during rush hour, you'll have to park in the neighborhood and walk a bit. A very very soft 3 stars. 2 stars wouldn't be quite fair, but I'm not a fan. It wasn't bad, but you can easily do better than this at just about any sushi place. read more

Found this place on a whim while looking for sushi places around Larchmont. The place itself is small, almost hole-in-the-wall, the food is fantastic and the staff is so friendly. Ordered miso soup; the portion is really large, by the way. Not your regular small cup of soup, but an actual large bowl. They add sliced mushrooms, which I loved and the soup is not too salty. Had the mushroom mania which is a tempura battered portobello mushroom stuffed with spicy tuna. A very yummy appetizer to start off with. I only had two rolls and would recommend both. The 2 tone and the cannonball. The 2 tone is a tempura fried roll but topped with spicy tuna. And the cannonball had this crunchy sweet potato topping that was to die for. Both very different, but equally delicious. At the end of the meal, the chef even brough out dessert on the house. Which was ice cream in a cone shell with carmelized apples and raisins drizzled on top. This place is a fantastic find. The prices are reasonable, the portions are big and the staff is fantastic, and parking is not that difficult to find. Oh, and did I mention that everything is kosher? L'chaim to that. read more

Two words: Christmas sushi My wife and I may have forgotten to get groceries when we returned from a trip out of state on Christmas Day. This was my first kosher sushi experience. The texture was similar to California rolls that you can get almost anywhere in Southern California. The notable exception was the sweet potato roll that was crispy and light. The tiger roll was somewhat too soft for my liking. I will say the quality was decent considering we got it delivered. Covid superfind! After some disappointing tries around Hancock/la brea, we found a Wednesday night winner! While we love Sugarfish & Kazanori, they're expensive and limited. We wanted some of the fun stuff: gooey kripsy crunchy rice, huge dumb and delicious rolls you'd be ashamed to eat in Tokyo, fried jalapeño thingy's', et al. The old chestnut, "I'm a New Yorker, I know good food," has gotten rather old in LA, which has become great mecca on it's own. Like NYC, there are now loads of drive-by spots that don't have much seating or ambience, but a great takeout experience. It was great. A perfect Night in with a jalapeño spicy roll that had some green sauce that Jiro likely hasn't dreamed of, but should. Whole random order was delicious, warm, fresh, & with fish quality above decent. And prices pretty fine Explosion roll, Patron roll, and New Yorker roll are all your friends, along with sashimi salad, and jalapeno kani poppers that did us just right on Wednesday night. You order your food at the cash register and they bring it to you. There is no sushi bar. The rainbow roll was solid. I was excited about the canon roll but didn't love it. We ordered a salmon hand roll and a yellowtail handroll because the other table had them and they looked delicious... which they were! Excited that they deliver since not many sushi places do. Parking: area is gridlocked from 4-7pm and neghborhood parking is possible but difficult since a lot of streets are permit only after 6pm. read more

We looked at the cashier and then she said you can look at the menu here and order here when ready. After deciding that I was going to order the veggie roll with brown rice and miso soup. I asked for water, not sure if they don't provide water but the cashier sold me a water bottle The soup was good and it was served in a big bowl and the rolls were decent. Accidentally vegan heaven. Meshuga 4 Sushi is a kosher sushi restaurant, so all of their sauces and Roll fillings are dairy free by default. I have been on a quest for sushi with vegan cream cheese for a long time, and was pleased to finally find it here. They also have a chipotle mayo sauce that is incredible. The menu is simple yet interesting and includes a wide variety of vegetable rolls. Prices are low and portions are generous. The restaurant itself is small and casual. I went with the Jungle Roll, add tofu cream cheese, which ended up being an excellent choice. It included avocado and other very fresh tasting veggies, and was topped with a sweet sauce. Delicious, and a very satisfying meal for $8. Service is grumpy but fast, and they accept all credit cards. I will definitely be back, and would highly recommend this spot to anyone seeking delicious dairy free sushi options. read more
